Hi, I just bought DeskScapes but I do not want to have Impulse on my computer. Why can't we install it without the stupid bloatware? This is the reason why many people choose piracy over buying the product when they download an illegal copy they don't get all the crap the people that buy it does.
zicoz, it's your opinion that Impulse is bloatware, and the only reason people choose not to pay for the software they use is, well we all know the reason. Did you even look at what was required before you brought DeskScapes?

It's a download/update/communications (irc) platform for Stardock (and other) software. It is eye pleasing and it is functional. Lastly, people turn to Pirating software for financial and antisocial reasons, but never because of hard-disk storage problems as you seem to suggest in your OP.
Stardock maintains and updates it's software through Impulse. You want the software, then comply with it's requirements.
I don't understand your objection to Impulse...especially as you can be notified of great software and game discounts through it.
What's not to like?
Install Impulse, install Deskscapes and register it, uninstall Impulse. Simple really.
Or m1's way...it's all good.

There's nothing wrong with Impulse mate.... Not now!!!!!! (mabe when it first came out.) BUT NOT NOW!!!

My advice is to give Impulse a look,get familiar with it before you judge it as "bloatware." It's well designed,easy to use and you may even find some good deals there from time to time.Turn off the tray app if you don't want anything running in the background and just open Impulse to update your software. you won't even notice it's installed until you run it.
It is easily uninstalled if you decide to go that route. Either way,enjoy your DeskScapes.
I've just spent a week cleaning out an inlaw's computer....that has about 8 user accounts [all kids] and was a mule for torrenting. The amount of virii and other corruption was hilarious.
A harddrive with 270,000 files is now a hd with 120,000.
Oh, it's 50 gig emptier, too.
Should have just formated and reinstalled Windows. Would have been a hell of a lot faster and it teaches the kids not to pirate.
You will really begin to appreciate Impulse if you ever have to reformat and reinstall your OS as I did a few months ago. After installation and connection to the internet I downloaded impulse, logged on, and presto there in one place was all my programs and games ready to reload. No hassle looking all over the place for serial numbers either! Impulse was a god send!
Oddly enough I try to only buy things through impulse now, and it is very easy since virtually all of my software gets reinstalled, and unlike a cd it's always the newest version with all the updates... before impulse I had to buy certain games from Direct2Drive, and other places... it is tough remembering everything I need for those sites to download my software again. And I can't remember ever truly having a problem with impulse forgetting anything from my account, everything I've bought from Stardock, and Impulse in the last ten years is still there available to download whenever I want.

Talk about contradicting yourself. First you say it isn't bloatware, and then you bring up all the stuff it does that isn't necessary. Bloatware is: unnecessarily complex software. And installing a program that does all of the stuff you mention just to use a wallpaper is the definition og bloatware.
Yes, it is my opinion, but by definition my opinion is correct. When you have to install a different program that does alot of stuff that aren't needed before you can install something as simple as a wallpaper it is bloatware,
No I did not check the reqs simply because there is no logical reason to why I shouldn't be able to run it on my computer.
And I would really love to hear the ONLY reason "we all know" for why people choose not to pay for software they use. Because that is wrong, there is no single reason. Sure some people pirate because they don't want to pay, but alot og people pirate because they actually get a better product when they download a pirated version.
And all the talk about viruses in this thread is rediculous. Yes you can get viruses from downloading from the internet, but only if you don't know what you're doing. And if you don't know what you're doing you'll probably get viruses even if you're not downloading illegal stuff. If you know what you're doing you won't get viruses when downloading illegal material.
Not to mention the fact that you might actually end up with a rootkit on your computer even if you've bought a 100% legal CD or DVD.

Impulse is not bloatware.
(Now with Steam on the other hand, you may have a point.)
My only complaint about Impulse is number of updates that get pushed out to the software itself (esp since I've no idea what they're for).
You can right-click on a program entry in Impulse and click "View History" to see the program's changelog.
This is a terrible idea when it comes to software. We don't list requirements arbitrarily because it's fun, we list them to let people know what is needed to install the software.
Granted a lot of the benefits of Impulse are moot if you only have one app to install, but the trade off is significant when you consider that without Impulse each individual application would have to have its own installer/uninstaller. I can't wait for the day that Impulse will let me install all the must have apps on my systems. Being able to install the OS, update, install Impulse and then get all my applications from there would be WAY easier than hunting down dozens of installers from dozens of sites.
Please stop with this Impulse (the forum is full with these type of threads), it requires for install the programs, is written black on white.
If you buy many programs Impulse help you to administrate them, you can update , install and delete with one click.
If you don't want the advertises, don't run Impulse Now, that is a different application, simple.
Thanks, but wrong updates. I mean updates to Impulse itself, rather than update announcements for applications (I like that part).
Often (maybe less so lately) it seems Impulse needs to be updated for some reason, but it never says why and I never notice anything different.
There is an Impulse specific history under the help options (upper right corner, help icon). Some Impulse updates are done out of cycle to fix specific issues with certain apps, and may not be listed.
