Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
I think Levi is a much better example of what's wrong with Reg than what's right with him, the first being his extreme mana issues. Reg falls on his face in Cataract, but when you both remove the cooldown flag (potentially an effective 15% mana cost reduction) and add in a 15 MP/S flag he improves dramatically. Then you give him solid health regen which is a disproportionately large percentage of his total health and finally throw in a perma meat shield since people tend to play that map 4v4.
Without the combination of all those things I think reg is a dull and generally ineffective character... relatively speaking, of course. The true disparity between the effectiveness of the tier 1 and tier 2 DGs isn't nearly as bad as it seems, we've just played the same meta over and over so many times that the moderate and small issues have been magnified.
On the other hand I think TB actually does quite well without all the artificial modifications, in the end he just needs a functioning fire form autoattack. Fire Aura alone is an outrageous team buff and I think we'll see him as a tier 1.5 type character after his AA is fixed while reg will still be second tier. That being said, frost TB does fairly well as-is and unlike reg I think his design concept is pretty valid, he's just a very tedious and technical character to play as and against (few people can resist the temptation to use Deep Freeze primarily as a damage spell isntead of a mitigation ability at the start of a fight).
I respectfully disagree with you about reg and invite you to a 3v3 on cata with good teams, to prove you are wrong. I never had mana issues with reg and I use all his active 3 skills. Of course, I always carry a mana potion with me just in case. Middle-Late game I've been able to solo ub, oak, and even erebus and have them retreat. And no, they weren't noobs. Too many people say reg is weak, but they didn't actually tried it's best or simply had bad teammates as reg.
I also respectfully disagree about sedna - in 1v1, 2v2 and even 3v3 she cannot be killed or pushed out of the lane (if played right). It also gives allies insta 1.1-1.7k heals without even investing in level 1 heal (hint hint wind2 + bishop)
Without trying to bragg, just answering your question - Yes, I can play any demigod at a decent/high level. In fact, most of my late games are played as Random.
Thank you, that's very kind of you
And sorry for the triple post, but I wanted to reply to each one separate
+1
Because 1vs1 is a great measure of skill >.>
Anyway, this is a hard question. Should a good player be able to play all demigods atleast decent. And more importantly what is considered decent? I would say that playing random is higher level games is a good indication of skill but on the other hand I question the premise of forcing players to play every single demigod at a high level. Why is this needed? Like Hedge mentioned, many people hate the way Sedna and omiting them from this list because of their (not totally unfunded) hate towards Sedna's playstyle would be obnoxious.
+1 that 1v1s are not a measure of skill.
I dont think you have to play EVERY demigod, but you should be able to play every role. Be that tank, support or DD. Some demigods can fulfill mutiple roles, so you need to adapt to what your teammates have.
"
I also respectfully disagree about sedna - in 1v1, 2v2 and even 3v3 she cannot be killed or pushed out of the lane (if played right)."
TB can 1v1 , 2v1 and even 3v1. Hell 5v1 TB cannot be killed or pushed out of a lane (if played right).
Man. That magical phrase. "If played right". Makes you sound like a registered badass AND pro AND makes you seem like you know exactly what you're talking about. All in three words.
Of course "playing right" means locking and then turning tail and not engaging when the 5-man kill-team comes for you. Man, and you guys thought it wasn't possible.
I am a fan of sarcasm.
I'll nominate Hellebus, his Sedna is insane.
Edit: Well he is inactive now but his Sedna was the best...
I nominate ManySimpleThings for his Rook.
Yeah, good Rook (though he was fed a bit when I played against him, easy to be good when fed though it's still an indication of skill). A smurf though (no idea who it is). So he could be on here twice?
Who is the best rook player? I'd like to watch some replays.
I would say that Obs is.
Janook is also an excellent Rook
I haven't seen Obs's rook in awhile. I'd personally put my rook or trouser's up against it. Not sure who would shake out.
So... I'm trying not to turn this into a big flame war, but I'm going to progress this list a little... or start another one. Try not to be offended if you aren't listed. Maybe I forgot.
People who pacov has been impressed with. This is pretty much my personal hall of fame. If you get any of these guys on your team, you are at an advantage, imo.
honorable mentions. People I haven't played with enough to put them in my personal list: playgroundlegend (from the few games I've played with, I found him to be a great player), morpheas768 (dito), DiceAreEvil (have we played more than once? you left an impression at the very least), Posidenii (enough people that I respect have played with him and consider him an excellent player, but I've never had the pleasure).
edit: added tshughes and futileemotion to my list.
I think it's clear almost no one in this thread has any clue what they're talking about.
Yes that includes you pacov.
After saying something like that you normally follow it up by how you mean...
Why isn't Py4eek up there? I haven't been able to beat him yet, as the stats clearly show.
hehe... maybe. It is all a little silly, after all.
I think we should cut some names out though. I'll begin.
Red for noob/not good enough
Green for good player
Grey if you haven't played the guy.
+1 for that one lol
Pacov, it's too bad I can't watch any of those players because of the backwards compatibility (or lack thereof) of the replay system. I found about ten replays from version 1.2, however you were the only rook. I watched that game, and it was great. Your push on the right towers was awesome. (You died, but you took naur and two towers with you)
I wish I could play the people on this list. I've played some but most will leave the game too worried about their %.
More people need to use gamereplays.org . Only been playing the game for 2 weeks and that's where I learned how to play but not enough people use it.
epic lolz. i'd have to agree.
