Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
I'll update the op soon with those names... i see i did miss 2nana - not intentional
Yup. Fairly true statement. Most of us with high win % pick our battles somewhat carefully. I don't do anything to the degree of demanding people choose x character when I'm pugging, but I typically join games when they are first made, when they are hosted by players I know are good. Or just host my own. There's definitely an advantage in being a good player, but the logic still goes that if there is any real sense of balance, even really good players will lose close to half of their games. The idea of getting a challenge simply due to having weak players on my team is not desirable. Some might enjoy spending most of their effort on saving their teammates, but I don't anyway. I'd rather the challenge come from playing against good players and actually learning something from the defeat (outside of the obvious, weak player dies multiple times or doesn't assist ever on kills, etc, I lose). And as a result, I don't typically play games where I have to take on 2 weak teammates for the sake of "balance" because the balance is obviously not in my favor. When players call for BALANCE!, they are obviously saying that they feel the current teams unfair. But the balancing decision typically results in the teams being stacked in the guy wanting balance's favor, as the silly norm is to balance based on win %. And again, a high win % indicates that while you probably aren't a lousy player, most of your wins come as a result of playing in games that are your favor. This, logically, leads high win % people to leave the game instead of risking a loss when they feel they are at a disadvantage after the call for balance, which will in many cases swing the balance into the other teams favor.
Anybody start playing together again yet? I think I've put up 2 games now (more when I'm back in town). 1 was a straight up pug. The other was 2 pre + 1 pug vs 2 pre + 1 pug. I don't think I've drawn any people from the list in yet. Anyone playing with people that are on this list that don't normally?
list updated
Also - try to pay more attention in your next few games... does anyone stand out as an exceptional player? Post them here.
Nomil - let's play a game soon - together or against.
I would like to second Darz4 and Archon_Saar(and maybe some other on that list aswell but I haven't played with them enough). Archon is good with more than DA though! Also I'd like to add lifekatana, he's playing a quite dangerous Qot which I hate to be on the other side of.
1v1 != 3v3 cause the teamplay and gameplay are completely different imo
gl_Mithrander is pretty good with Oak and Ereb.
I check to see if I missed any updates later tonight. Hoping to be online tonight as well for some gaming, but not sure if that will work out. pm me if you are around and up for a game.
Said guy who rage quits almost any pro game (i have been in more then 5 games that you rage quit before 10th minute). You even rage quit 1v1 with me. And thanks to our hard working frogboy that game shows as inclomplete NOT as your loss.
oo7_warhammer great beast and mean regulus. sometimes, just sometimes he goes too hard for a kill but who dosnt . Gkrit(oak) and JayKayz have mean oak ereb combo - very high skilled
updated the list
I vote RAWRRRR as Oak, Pacov as reg
Rawwwr and pacov are already in there, and pretty much every player who thinks he's good (including me) claims to be the good with the entire demigodrepetoire.
true... but did you notice how I pick on people who nominate themselves? I do know what you mean, though.
I'm thinking I'm going to start hosting more XvX Expert/Friends games. I've been hosting them, but I generally get people who are not on this list joining. So, I'm going to try passwording the games. The password will be meh. I'll put this in the op. If that fails, I'll just rehost them without a password.
I'm also thinking about how to handle removing people from this list or creating a hall of fame section and a cheating stat jerk section. Trying to figure out how to do that without starting a rediculous flame war. Meh I say.
Top aus/nz players imo - no particular order:
007_warhammer
irek
gkrit
myself
JayKayz
Swoxks
superfishy
mixmagic
nzac - not sure if he is still playing
@ exxcentric,
whos this 007_war charater?
I am now a little scared lmao.
when oo7 (myself) and 007 come together the heavens will weep!
I would like to nominate my rook as a mean charter,
big health stack 11k health rook - holding a big fat WARhammer is a mean barsted!
Pacov,
I would advice you to take another password than meh. Meh is kinda bleh, I'm sure everyone forgets it in a day. Better have a memorable password.
Maybe... I'm kind of leaning that the passworded game isn't going to be all that successful due to low population, but we'll see. For now I'll keep it meh. If you have a super suggestion, I'm all ears.
Hang out in chat?
Edit: Oh, and I dunno if you still wanted to mention people who don't play anymore (I'm workin him to get him back) but Chefdick24 was a fantastic Reg.
updated list
Just Demigod would be fine. Or Pacov.
Why are the new posts not showing up?
Pacov, can we get a tournament going? I've contacted Deman from Quadv, a shoutcasting/live-commentary site and he's willing to commentate a few games of demigod. This would obviously be an enourmous boon to the community.
I will join
I'm in.
Interesting. I'd be up for a tourney, I suppose, but we'd probably have to find a way to make it a true pug tourney... and that get's tricky for teams... I don't know. I'm not up for organizing a tourney, but I'd participate. Our last tourney had a pretty small showing.
