Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
hi, do u guys know the password of the private games? I know most of all passwored games are created by people from this forum that are tired of all the cheates/idiots.
Thanks!
Omg i suck at ice tb especially hybrid.
IMO Oc is the most powerful dg in the game, but it's very difficult to play him well. That's how it should be.
Then there is Oak, who any noob could do very well with.
Youd be surpirsed how many oaks sheild themselves before any burst damage happens before they even attack someone. It is so funny to watch.
Hey bud - only some of the lagwars games are passworded - and that's when we have a full game. If you play the game enough, you learn who to avoid, who's fun to play with, etc.
not true
noobs are noobs
Says the noob oak!
Magnus?!?! I thought you were smart???!!! Cmon brother, you know the only thing worse than a noob coming in, selecting reg and hitting ready is doing the same with oak!
Newbies dont even take shield, last stand ftw. And if they get it its even worse, than not getting it at all.
Last Stand is the best ability an AI can get, lol.
you're mother is noob magnus
I would like to say I have never had a problem with prizmsmurf. Ya I am sure he can get angry, but to put him on blast for one thing...
I dont know.
The End.
Indeed - I'm sure some have not. But my description is the avoid list is precisely what he did and how he behaved. And it was quite fair in saying that I'm sure he doesn't intentionally desync often.
She definitely wasn't a noob when I saw her last night....
hehe couldn't resist.
ZING
and this is why ba294 is a bad ass...

random thoughts quickly on new structure for this silly arse list
tier 1
tier 1.5
tier 2
tier 3
tier 4
avoid
unranked
other option
tier 1a - best of the best - all characters/tactician (about 6 guys here period - these are the guys that you put on any combo of 2v2 or 3v3 and you don't know the outcome)
tier 1b - step a wee bit lower, but not much (tier 1.5 ish) - awesome players, but these guys aren't quite as freaking good.
tier 1 (individual char) - experts that are awesome with 1 character (possibly a liability or weak in all rand game, but a nightmare if they have their best)
tier 2 (all character) -
tier 2 (individual char)- not quite tier 2a
tier 3 (all character) - decent players - not awesome, but reasonable skills - not necessarily decent with all characters
tier 3 (individuals) - not awesome, but reasonable skills - just with 1 player
Also, if we want to go super nerd, we could come up with some categories to rank by for individuals...
for instance, we could rank tier 1 players in several categories...
like
map awareness (x/10)
team play cit upgrades (x/10)
team play gank (x/10)
portal control (x/10)
team play support (x/10)
we could have varied rankings based on support or assassin... blahblah.
As cool as the last part sounds... I don't think we're quite to the pro sports level of stats.
I hate to go off topic a bit, but I feel this is important so forgive me.
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/382062 watch this replay, I feel it is important enough for everyone to at least be aware of.
What I really want to know is why didn't my grunts ever help me out lol, they just walked past the scene of the crime.
That sounds super complicated. I'd rather this not be made into a type of spreadsheet. ^^;
But working with what you're saying:
Tier 1a is best of the best. Eg, top 1%
Tier 1b is ... top 3%?
Tier 1c needs to probably be Indisputable Top-5 of a given character.
That said, have to be careful with this. A lot of people play really really poor support characters (especially Sedna) or don't split monks well. I may specialize in Sedna, sure, but the only character I really struggle with while playing is Rook. Even though any tier 1a or 1b might be able to play all the characters proficiently, some people just don't LIKE certain characters and so play them maybe only "average".
However, since these players also have top-notch map awareness and have good skill builds and good exposure, it matters less. It doesn't matter WHO you are, if you port 3v1 on someone with 1k hp, you're gonna get a kill. But, you aren't making the most of your character and doing the crazy bullshit you might be doing because you know the abesolute limit of your character and if you're pushing it or not.
Also, the more popular characters (Rook, Reg, UB, Erebus, Oak), it's hard to say you're a "Top 5". Too many people play them well and play them differently.
Even though I consider myself a Top 5 Sedna, my favorite build has faults and weaknesses. I know how to adapt and shift my build depending on who I'm fighting and what they are doing, but, still, it's not my "comfort" build. So, other people with different builds than me in a situation that I don't like might perform better than me.
2a is top 10%?
2b is top 10% with a specific character. Should that not have to be Rook-LE-UB-Oak? What if they are a really awesome Oak?
I'm against having a Tier 3 for a specific character. Tier 3 is more of a "Honorable Mention" and puts someone on a watchlist. "You got this random guy on you're team, you can trust him to play at least decently. If you see him improve and start to kick ass, maybe he should be Tier 2." I don't think that Tier 3 should have a requirement to be well-balanced in your character selection.
