Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
Ninki wanted to see my spit vs cows ooze win so i posted it then cow got all defensive oh well. Not being arrogant.
Thats because it was a BS game from minute 5. Everyone has games where the get rolled I don't care if your Mcshane, kalel, rawwr, me, mith, renz, pacov, trouser or anybody thats "pro" in this game. Don't post shit games on GR's. The game you are looking for a good example of your skill would be one where the game was rediculously close and you stood out on your team, the closest thing you have to that is the first replay in your post with the replays that is probably the only worth while replay out of those 5.
The only other replay that I think is legitimate is the first one I posted of the super close citadel's dying at the same time game.
Post games like those games and link them here.
I never would have brought up those games without you bringing up your whole list of games. Do I think you're terrible? No. Do I think you are currently Tier 1? No. That's all. You certainly didn't make "huge" mistakes in those 2 games I referenced, just a string of little things that add up.
yes....but is Jona__ tier 1.5?
I haven't actually watched the replays you're talking about yet, I'm just trying to stir things up
Going to at least make ABornExile tier 2? I'm sure if asked he would be tier 0, but for the time being we should at least put his name up there
^I've mentioned his name a few pages back but like I said, while he belongs in Tier 2, he probably could care less cause his own list would be completely different.
He's not arrogant, he's confident in my opinion.
_Jona tier 1, best Reg I've ever played with and I've played with most of the people on the list. His snipers are perfection, and as such is an indication of his overall game awareness.
The 1st time I ever played with him on my team, we got accused of being a pre because of his inescapably fatal timing.
was he playing with Coin Purse? I hear Coin Purse Reg is OP so it might not count ^^
=P
edit: I'd like to say that I can't even tell my kid my favorite Bible story now because Jona__ has ruined it for me. Now I'll have to say. And then, when the whale ate him, all he had was his coin purse.
i think u should add maxsteel32. I watched his last game in tournament and he's good as DA. He does lot of job, nice gank, help his team mate, etc.
I'm actually thinking of getting some feedback after the tournament is complete and perhaps shaking this list up quite a bit. I don't have any real objections to bumping him to tier 2, though. Anyone have reservations?
Come on vent RIGHT NOW if you want live commentary of the Mith & Renz vs. Kollecktir & Naur battle.
You guys should consider Atma to Tier1. Best TB (good UB also) IMO.
I believe he had 8 kills 0 Death on our first game with Cow/Jaws, again keeping their portals locked even on 2v1 with ice stun/lock/run.
Also he does most of the cita upgrades, carries cheap/minimal gears and still does well.
And Stanlord is definitely a tier1/2 player.
He plays all demis well and all around nice guy!
That game in my opinion doesn't count, Atma played like crap in the game you desync'd.
I agree with Stanlords nomination.
He was actually doing good. 3 kills 2 deaths.(1death in the first minute of the game was due to his bad judgement)
Just had a game with Orcun for the first time in 6months....this guy is sick. He needs his own tier group.
Being awesome with 1 character generally isn't good enough for this list imo... or at least its hard to get to tier 1 if you are the best _______. I was VERY impressed with atma in cow/jaws v atma/ba's last game though.
re: stanlord - I played on and off with him while he was a newer player... i think I played a game with him about a month ago... i could maybe see tier 2, but not 1. He could have gotten downright awesome since I've seen him last though.
Cow - why do you agree with stan's nomination? for tier 1 or 2?
i think he meant tier 2.
Also when I was moving past the mid map, atma constantly had to guide me since I dont get to see the opponents port in (weird glitch even without alt-tab). I agree regarding diversity of demi play
disagreed on Atma for tier1. Definitely tier2 tho.
Dunno about Maxsteel for tier2. He's not terrible, but there are people in Tier2 I'd put way above him. In fact, looking @ Tier2, that list is very long and the players are varied in terms of skill. I would almost think of adding another tier... tier 1.5 if people don't want to be bumped down to Tier 3 (different from what it currently is).
I actually have some similar ideas regarding redesigning tiers to more accurately reflect skill levels... Even a simple 1.5 might be adequate.
Edit - without actually discussing who would move to a specific tier at the moment, why not discuss again what tier distinctions might be appropriate. Feedback welcomed/desired.
Any tier will need to have a very clear, very specific definition. I wonder if we should have some sort of separate category for the players that typically only play as 1 character, but do so exceedingly well. When I see players like this, I generally think in the negative - my team selection is limited. As such, that would generally drop players that have the talent for the highest tier (but create a certain amount of inflexibility in a team) to a lower tier. Any ideas on how to compensate for this?
So, the intial, basic proposal would be to create one additional tier fitting between tier 1 and tier 2 called 1.5. Logically, we should just add another rounded tier into the mix (eg t1,t2,t3,t4), but I think the 1.5 would help initially with people feeling slighted. Its easier to accept moving from tier 1 to 1.5 and feels nice surely to go from tier 2 to tier 1.5 (instead of dropping all of the tier 2's to tier 3, then elevating some of them, etc).
Also - I don't want to get too over the top, but some players are tacticians, some require a support characters to play there best, some have awesome map awareness, etc. I personally see tacticians as having a higher value, but perhaps I should leave thoughts like that out of the tier list. For me, the truly highest level players in this game are tacticians able to play all/just about all characters extremely well. These are the guys that have great map awareness and port in when appropriate and call off ports when there is no point in coming. They flash ports quickly/frequently to back away opponents from flags/towers. They buy cit upgrades and kit upgrades as appropriate. Possess good strategies for XvX for early/mid/late game. They are adaptive enough to adjust their style of play if it isn't working based on the team they are on. They pick appropriate dgs to compliment their team. They plan traps in game to goad players to follow. They... use sigils. They aren't feeding the other team. They understand the math and reasoning behind getting cit upgrades at certain points.
I hate stuff like this.
You have the truly skilled and tactical players. Those can push a lane with Reg alone. The TB that UB has to run from every time. Etc.
Then you have the players that won't touch a game unless it's in their favor, their teammates are on vent, and/or they use a DG and build that will cover up the small mistakes that separate them from top category.
I've played with/against Jona and found him quite good, but not in some haloed tier.
I've also played with/against some of the "tier 1" players, and would say the exact same.
But I'm in a minority of gamers. If you just play damn good and for fun, I think you're cool and "tier 1". If you play games like it's your f*cking job, you're a loser. Try yelling at your mom for meatloaf or something.
Dude...I almost numbchucked you...
I'm for sure not a tactician, lol
Cind3rs - you certainly are entitled to your opinion. The tier list, at its core, is an attempt to classify the skill level of the folks in our community. I wouldn't really consider the classifications in the list as more than that - and your feedback is welcomed. I don't think this list accurately reflects everyone in our little dg community or even the skill level of all individuals already classified into tiers (hence the desire to revamp the list).
Suffice to say - the list itself is a complete nerd endeavor. Its just a list, built by community feedback, to rank who we believe are the best players out there. As I don't play much/at all with you (in recent memory anyway), I haven't personally ranked you on this list. Generally, people play a game with folks, they provide feedback in this thread, and they get ranked based on additional feedback.
Anyway, if the list is generally accurate, then a team with 2 tier 1s and a tier 2 vs 3 tier 2s should win in most circumstances (say they play the best out of 5, team 1 would win 3 games (but might lose 1)).
Anyway - this brings up another thought about reclassifying the list - unranked players. I'm sure cind3rs is no slouch at the game. The way the tier list is right now, pretty much indicates that because he isn't listed, he must be tier 3 or a new player.
The original intent of the tier 3 category was based on this thought - there are some bad players out there. I don't want to list them by name as its quite insulting. But, because tier 3 is so broad because of how i worded it, it does mean that if you aren't listed in one of the tiers, you fit here... and that's not what i really meant for tier 3. So, perhaps I change the wording on the lowest tier to reflect that and then maybe add an unranked category that we can dump players into that we come across.
^What he said.
+1 karma
The way I see this list.
Tier 1: Never plays without vent or a similar tier 1 teammate
yet I see as a requirement: "do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well."
Interesting. Commence drama.
