Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
If you don't send a monk to one side of the map within 5s of the game starting as the only general on a team, you don't deserve to own the game, much less be on a list with tiers.
Also, if you don't send a new monk within 15s of the old one dying at any point you shouldn't be on a list.
Lastly, if you don't understand stacking monks or don't do it in the first 3 minutes of a game with multiple generals your account should be deleted and all mention of you erased from these forums for all time, including this list.
I'm guessing this comment refers in some way to the replay Jona posted... though I'm not sure who specifically he's calling out here, etc...
Well that was the first balanced game i've played against Cows ooze ub. And it shows flag control and early game prowess. Id like to try it again cow is an awesome UB to play against. But in most situations spit UB owns unless ooze UB gets a lot of kills from diseased claw surprise.
Well monks have been my hotspot lately. Jona sent me a monk like 20s into a game recently and I was furious!
The comment wasn't directed at him (though I thought to post it because of that game), it's just my opinion that a tier 1 player will always have pro monk micro.
Well the only reason i didnt send you a monk was because i wanted to solo mana flag and sent a monk to hp..... So i had to move another monk and they didn't want to listen for like 20seconds.
What happens if the player only plays assassins? Then they can't ever be tier 1?
Thats why I figured I wasn't on the list.
Getting punished for only liking one guy, sigh. lol
Of course. This is tier '1' we are talking about here, not tier 'your mom'.
...
His criteria, not necessarily mine. If you do play generals and are tier 1, I'd think you have great micro skills with monks, etc. The problem with people who only use 1 character is in how the definition for tier 1 is written.
So regarding you, teseer - you've got one of the best tb's out there. You have a very detailed thread going with strategies on how to deal with each dg. And what you do, you do very well. However, because you primarily play one character, that limits what you can do, unless you believe that tb is someone you would want on your team in every 3v3 scenario. Say, cata 3v3 - the other team is oak/erb/ub. Your team has tb + ? + ?. However, other scenarios where tb would be a good choice, make your skill level with tb all the more useful and a great asset to your team. I'd generally prefer the more versatile player over the expert with one in matchups (I get a chance to play tb from time to time too, then ). There's nothing wrong with your philosophy to play the heck out of one character and be better with him than anyone else - I just find its a little limiting (and I hate having to be the guy to pick a tier 1 char to compensate all the time). Not to say that you can't do some great stuff against a team of ub/erb/oak or some strong combo. Looking forward to seeing some replays of you in the high level games against GM once your clan gets up and running if they go ub/erb/oak, etc. I'd almost really want to break up the tier 1 list into tier 1 with only 1 dg and tier 1 with mult dgs if you were added to the t1 list. I just happen to value flexibility quite a bit... a tier one going all random should not get their butt handed to them imo.
shredy tells me to tell you that smurf demon is tier 2
Like I said, I know that's why I'm not on the list.
TB is the only reason I play Demigod. I don't have fun with anyone else at the moment. I'll play others eventually, but right now hes the only one I truly enjoy.
Plus, I made a pact with myself to play only TB this Epoch. Dunno if I'll hold to that forever, but that's what I like.
I believe as TB, I'm Tier 1. But by the rules above, I knew I didn't qualify. I think I even mentioned that like 90 pages ago, hah.
And I'm looking forward to those games too.
(Edit: And you don't HAVE to have a T1 DG, just sayin)
(Edit2: And damn right I think TB should be on every team, lol. On LK's Threat I said the best team is TB/*/* )
Here you go Cow http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=123003&st=0#7198908
I think Jona belongs in tier 2. He's good @ copying builds / item selection, but his play needs improvement. I'd upload / link replays if necessary, but w/e.
Example 1: Copies Cow's Ooze UB, but doesn't use it effectively to control the map.
Example 2: Copies my Occ build and attempts to use it against me. Beginning starts off with him wandering back and forth multiple times then finally coming up to me on mana lane, where I hit him and the tower with chain, and he chains me when there is nothing around. Later he's laned up against an ooze beast, but doesn't bother to double jump him, merely waits until UB's grasp is off cd, then runs into melee range / gets grasped, then cloaks away. Easy push out if he ran into melee range and then blast off on top of the beast (and if necessary has cloak to jump away like before). Instead, he let's a non spit beast @ 2500 control the mana lane for a couple minutes.
Mostly a whole bunch of little things that really make a Tier 1 a Tier 1. Like not fighting 3 on 3 @ your cd flag when the entire map is controlled by the enemy team and an occ is just chaining both towers down plus hitting everyone else. That's a time to get other flags and draw them out elsewhere.
I have the same problem with Sedna. I can certainly play a more-than-competent UB, Oak, Occulus and my Queen and DA aren't too bad (if you take into account their innate weakness). But because I focus on one demigod it was my largest hitch into tier 1. I still preferring only playing Sedna in competitive matches...
But I can perform fine in All Random games (as long as I'm not Rook lol)

magnus is half shooting at me with the monk-stacking thing (something I've known since the first month of this game and been doing with irek since forever). But he's just an angry and bitter person, as you can see...
Jona is certainly good. Better than I was when I came back from my 2 month break earlier this year. A little cocky, which is something that just ruffles my spines. Despite my trash-talking ways I actually hate trash-talking :-/ I just do it because its the hedgehog thing to do!
But he's got good confidence, so that's something.
Give him a few weeks I think.
I haven't played em in a while, but I can play Oak/LE/QoT/Sed
I REFUSE to play UB.
I'm not so hot at Reg/Oc/QoT
And DA I haven't played online.
This is a balanced game that actually was not one sided at all. I went ooze and Jona went Spit beast. The difference was Jona died 8 times in this game and I didn't, now that fact didn't mean much because this game still could of went either way but I am sure Jona dying less would of gave them the win.

We should play Sed-TB but me as TB and you as Sed ^^;
Here is an example of Jona getting "owned" by my spit beast.

Actually my monk comment has little to do with hedgie. Though I would kick him out of t1 for poor sportsmanship, I'd expect everyone in t1 to not admittedly, intentionally sabotage their own team for their personal laughs.
Good monk micro can really make or break a game, and at least turn the advantage of a game but very few people do anything more then click a monk and tell it to follow someone, which if often more harm then good (attacking towers), and then forget about it when it dies.
You can make a Tier list for TBs.
I would if I thought there were more then like 5 good ones.
Being the fact that that was probably my 2nd time playing occulus i had no clue about double jump dmg or how chain lightning worked for awhile and no i am not a good ooze UB at all, thats probably one of the only games I've ever tried it. But keep on bringing up one offs and bashing me =/.
An arrogant attitude invites this kinda stuff. Just sayin.
