Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
Lol does he ever.
And Duelist Cuirass with Erebus.
But he does have the basic skills down. Item orders are easy to tweak.
Besides, you probably would've been fine if you took advantage of the rook, depending on how he set up his towers. According to hedgie, it's called "baby-sitting" but according to me it's called "a gift."
There's babysitting and there is "the other team's number one priority is kill the rook over and over".
This is pretty normal and I'm find on double-porting to a Rook's towers to get kills. Not my problem. This is especially true if I'm Oak. However, twice that game you walked up out of your farm against a team of speed stackers to place one tower up by their gold tower. This resulted in their entire team converging in on you, and both of us burning ports and you a sigil in an attempt to keep you alive. This rarely netted us kills and they frequently won "the consumable war" as 2 ports + 1 sigil >= 1 or 2 sigils.
The tower at the gold is to force them to tp, because all of them have to waste a tp to come over, and the two of you would require to tp to come for a kill. I might've used a sigil once or twice but I always use them sparingly so I have enough money to get myself better items - which I still ended up getting the full set with no kills.
If they were going speed build, then their hp is low, which means they wouldn't be able to hold the 3 of us for too long. Once they run away, that's when you start pushing their portal towers. Basic strategy 101.
Not really having to port on you. Usually they would just come from the gold flag and two were in the middle capping XP and saw you overextended. Rook is slow, they are fast and Fire Aura makes them faster.
I do understand we won most/all of those engagements so it's not like we lost the game because you were doing what we did. But sometimes I like to do things like farm or cap flags instead of porting to save you with little to no mana and it is frustrating leaving creepwaves with tons of XP and gold because you decided to walk up to a tower.
End result: Their DA is at level 15 while I'm 12 and he starts farming the entire map.
You may have had plenty of money to get yourself better items but we didn't. We weren't running around with Orbs. 'Course the game did last long enough that I did get some nice stuff but that was mostly towards the end.
I'm not blaming the game on you or anything. And I do expect having to port in to save you a few times a game: you're Rook. I'm simply saying, you were frustrating to play with because you kept walking out of your farm in an attempt to "get a kill" when we weren't getting kills: simply dogpiling in one corner of the map and not leveling up.
^The reason why we couldn't level was because I got priests instead of currency, which would not be a big deal if we held on to the mid flag but we didn't for some reason. The only flag that was being held was the only one I was standing on.
But like said, if you're gonna waste a tp to port to the other side, then you might as well knock that tower down by the ports. A Rook and an Occulus would take it down in 2 seconds. If we're not gonna get any kills, might as well get their towers down to apply some pressure.
You shouldn't just stand in the same spot as a rook, some pressure needs to be applied so that the other guys can port in and you guys can get the flags back. The last game we lost because I was forced to stick to one side of the map without moving, because the other teammates believed that was their #1 priority. If that's what they think, then that's what I'll follow. I don't like to argue ingame but what essentially ended up happening was that the other side got ripped apart while we also lost in war score.
You got priests instead of currency the one game with rawr before. Also. You know it's bad to get priests at WS3 correct? I mean, I guess it's nice as Rook to get priest support but it's not worth giving them tons of levels. Heaven's Wrath DA is case number one.
We didn't hold flags because I was perpetually running between you and the shop to buy more ports and they were faster than us so they could cap flags and then go to you and force us to port faster than we could do the opposite. Remember the DA had Heaven's Wrath which ENCOURAGES forcing all three of us into one lane since they win the XP war (which they clearly did). They also used a lot of locks which forced me to purchase locks as well, further draining my income.
I agree with not just standing next to a Rook, waiting for nothing to happen. If Rook has a buddy, they should run towards the portals. Otherwise, he holds that flag and advances when it's safe (eg, moving farm up slowly rather than walking out of it to place one tower 20 yards away). This is, again, especially true against a team that is built to kill you over and over and over again. You died twice early game right? The answer is yes. Luckily I had 1 kill and 3 assists at that point so it wasn't a huge deal.
I'm not frustrated by the fact that you were targeted and therefore died. I'm saying that you would obstinately go way out of position with the INTENTION of making us port. You even said yourself that was what you were trying to do. Multiple times, I was doing things like farming and capping flags and porting severely limits how often I can do that.
Also, note that I wasn't just porting. I was frequently porting AND sigiling. I don't like to spam sigils, but when there is an enemy DA on the other team and a TB you sorta have to the second you drop below 2k, which is easy to do when you're using CoN and not Blood and you're burning money on ports the entire game (and Currency). When you're oom and on a sigil, it's somewhat difficult to push towers since you can't run from a Fire Aura'd DA.

Also, you died while arguing with McShane over text when he was idling in the vent with us. If you don't like to argue in game, at least don't argue with your OPPONENTS.
Democracy in action...
I wonder why i'm still not in T1 ...
Oh well, i guess it takes either a GM clan membership or being one of Pacov's close friends to get your ass into T1...
As if i cared...
...
I told you to go mana after i got no response from OC to go back with you. so you guys can draw attention on one side. OC is the one who did his own thing, I wanted you to follow him because he obviously didn't know what we were saying.
on the currency, if you noticed when checking my gold, that i had a scaled helm and battlecrown in my inventory. i sell the scaled helm and get currency when i have enough. which was apparently 60 seconds too late for you. sorry you missed out on 250 gold,
and then thats when i became useless. because you became useless. you both went different ways and couldn't do anything while i sat in the middle with full mana, snipes every 10 seconds and no targets. and instead of going with OC who was at mana, you sat behind the HP tower complaining about how you wish you had your 1800 gold back and that we need flags. and locks. and repeating it. instead of doing something. it was obvious our teammate didnt understand.
my look on it was it was better to have mana than no flags at all. The two of you were the best pair for holding a lane. at that point you would draw 2 of them over to mana and i could rotate hp and xp with reg. so what if they had hp flag. if you have mana flag, you pretty much get one more skill out of your mana bar. one more than they have. the damage you do with that should nullify the extra hp they have. which would only be 400-700 (1 pent) hp anyway. not to mention two people protecting our gold flag. so tell me why it was such a bad idea again?
I was the one trying to get the team in a rhythm, while you were bringing us down. with your complaining. It only got bad when i had enough of your whining when i was trying to help out, and for some reason, your the tier 1 player. but it was like talking to a wall.
so yea, complain about how we are 200 warscore behind and short 300 gold. bring the game to a stop with it, because in your world pacov, that is not worth playing. our team mate wasnt the best, but he was good enough, but he needed you. you guys were supposed to be like Riggs and Murdock. but he wouldnt know what the hell that was so it was up to you to go to him. but you did nothing but complain instead. The game was still even salvagable at that point. but i had enough of you doing nothing and yeah, complained to you that you were useless, arrogant, and a bad team player, I'm sure you are a good player, but that was complete lack of skill.
I had nothing to complain about until you started up with how you had to buy currency. If i had known you were gonna spy on my gold than i would have sold my scaled helm when i bought the battle crown, so you could be at ease. and your only reason for using that program is so you can jump on people that don't purchase to your liking. same goes for alot of people that use it.... this invisible cloud that now floats around lag wars , pretty much started when all this tournament garbage came up, which i had ZERO interest in. and people were so surprised i didn't join. and its because people started taking every single detail way too seriously.
Yeah I realized I was mixing up the two games until I was driving home. I said I mistakenly got currency, because as a Rook I never get currency, I get priests and I instinctively clicked on priests instead of currency. I also don't get priests that early unless it's one of those exceptions.
I did die twice early game but that still didn't prevent me from getting my full set of gears and taking any of them on 1 on 1. You can still win with a few early deaths, especially as a rook.
Occulus is an expensive Demigod, I do understand that. However, the only thing that had going for us was our ability to push towers, particularly with that erebus being able to portal sneak. If we can't even do that then you might as well just give up and cry because they obviously had a lot more burst damage.
------
Also, that argument was very important. I needed to let Shane know that what he was complaining about with my rook that game was the exact same complaint I had about Obscenitor's rook - he needs to make that connection so he remembers how foolish he was back then when he started crying about him everyday.
PS. I hope you're not replying to our convo Xynth, cause we're talking about a different match where you weren't involved.
no - its doesn't. I can see why you'd say that, though.
Xynth - perhaps we can just leave it at this? We played a game together that we could not win. The oc on our team was certainly not anywhere being on the same page and his build was extremely squishy. You and I still appear to have different strategies in DG. I think mine are better than yours, and vice versa.
Just refer to my previous statement. And for the last time. In that game, the one you played in, my harshest criticism was that we should get any flag and lock it. I said it twice on different occasions (to be specific once at 5 minutes and again at like 8 minutes). In your head, that is complaining the whole time. On planet earth, that is EXACTLY what happened. Followed by your brain exploding and you snapping. Enough is enough after all. I don't really consider your other criticism valid or accurate. I don't believe there is any reasoning with you and I'd rather not say anything offensive to keep this pointless conversation going. You think you are right... blahblahblah. Kuddos.
I'm not angry about getting Currency either. After all, I did get several kills and assists and since you were dying you clearly needed to armor up.
The only thing I'm "upset" about is how you would walk up to their gold flags (against a speed stacking team) drop a tower, and expect us to port every time to continually save your ass. Especially when they have a demigod with Heaven's Wrath so they can afford to pile up on one flag and speed means they can out-cap us.
So basically DA was too good and ninki was a bum Rook? I've been trying to tell him this for months now.
yes, Shane, no one can contain your awesomeness.
In defense of ninki though, his deaths were early and then you became a very easy target hedgie. However, priests before currency is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, he always buys them too early. He did it at warscore 3 vs a TB, Occulus and Rook recently, completely screwing us over.
Thank you! Ninki needed to hear that from a third party, he just won't admit it himself.
I only died end-game once the burst of everyone was insane :-/ I had 4 deaths (including the death where the winners do 2000 damage a hit), and of the 3 that "count" 2 were in the last 3-5 minutes of the game against a fed DA + Erebus gank-team where the DA was at/almost level 15.
I thought you had 6, or maybe that was Obi, I remember telling Orcun to target the Occulus though because you barely got away a few times early when I was the only one after you, and then we started killing you later on.
Clearly hedgie is being sarcastic.
Also, if you didn't want to port in and save me, then it's fine you don't have to. I am a big boy I can handle myself.
Also I've already repeated myself 2897398127312 times and I'm not repeating it again. I instinctively got priests intead of currency, and also I do not get priests early all the time. People have this crazy idea that early priests destroys their entire game when really infact if you just play as good as me then it doesn't matter when you do anything, you'll just win all the time.
ok, so at what point did we stop being players of the same game and become a dysfunctional family? Seriously? These forums aren't an episode of the Maury Povich show, last I checked....
Everyone in the last three pages knows how to play, right? Or did some of us magically forget everything and need a clear page-long description of our flaws? ^^
Solid players make stupid mistakes, it happens, and the next game you play with them won't be better if you call them out on it in negative ways.
If you really want to rehash who should have done what in a particular game make a seperate post which breaks down in detail commentary of a given game with replays, and invites comments from the other players.
That way you get, you know, constructive feedback, and those of us who weren't in the effing game can actually participate in the convo. Or not..
^What will we ever do without you Ke5trel?
I'm going to disengage myself from this silly discussion. I much prefer enjoy talking to hedgie on msn about palm tress and why the palm trees in California don't grow coconuts.
I'm also waiting on that virtual tea time. We barely had a 1 minute convo.
Also, Shane and I are no longer a part of the same family. We have parted in separate ways.
Hey - we all get a little heated. It happens. I trust hedgie and ninki and pacov and xynth aren't losing any sleep over this nonsense, right? And I know - I have no idea what hedgie and ninki are talking about and most have no idea what xynth and I are talking about. Apologies for the open (but really closed) public discussions.
I know I've kind of been going at it with Xynth, but its a thread about player skill levels (and my opinion of them primarily - followed by community feedback). For me, Xynth's status as tier 2 was a topic that does fit here. A while back (1-2 weeks), McShane was against Xynth hitting tier 2. I put him forward based on community feedback. I had a game with him where I felt like he didn't fit at tier 2, so I brought up the discussion again. So, its on topic... but unfortunately, everything has a really negative tone atm...
Ok, now that Ke5trel settled things out, can we get into the serious matter here? Who do i need to bribe to get into T1?
Looks like kicking T1 players asses from time to time isn't enough.....
I'm pretty sure both Ninki and I are just going on at eachother with no emotion. I'm not pissed off or anything, it's harder than that to upset me ^^;
I don't like to discuss games that are over, but Ninki brought up "babysitting" so I was forced to correct him.
Ok nom. I've played enough games with you to know that you are a decent player and certainly don't hurt any team that you are on. Here's what you do if you want to get to tier 1. You do this and I put you at tier 1. Submit a CURRENT replay here that shows you putting your team over the top or being the cause of your team winning - and not against some scrub team. I see that. Boom. No more dicking around. You are tier 1. I want to see a game with reasonably fair teams where you shine. If you are tier 1, that shouldn't be too hard to find. Play like 5 games tomorrow and one of them will be just like that. Boom. You are done.
