Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
I'd like to nominate gL-idealopamp and Thundercles for Tier 2
I would be okay with magnus333 on Tier 1 except he ... doesn't play well when things don't go his way :-/ but I think that happens to a lot of us.
magnus needs to beat me yet before I say tier 1 for him.
I do agree with idealo and thundercles for tier 2 both very good players.
That last game I played with you was the last game of DG I played...
I told you I didn't want to play it in the lobby either! I'm playing Mass Effect 2 at the moment but that will end in time and I'm sure I'll be back.
When it's obvious that you're not going to win you might as well spend the rest of the game educating the noobs on your team how to play better. Sometimes they appreciate it, sometimes they don't but it's better than getting frustrated that you are trying so hard for nothing.
You mean we have had 2 games: one of which was won in a 3 vs 2 situation by ninki and I, and the other almost won by you; so not ironic at all actually since they were two different outcomes, only one unexpected. I take no pride in making you rage. To be honest I would be ashamed of myself if you hadn't finally quit, having merely conceded in other games. After almost a year of demigod, frustration and rage are now like carbohydrates to me; they nourish me and motivate me to play. Both the frustration of other players and my own. But now that you mention it, a cookie sounds nice.
Bwahhaha. Good stuff. You might have a career ahead of you in either writing greeting cards, creating t-shirt slogans, or marketing for demigod. lolz
The good news is that it can be beat in around 34 hours or so I'm told. I picked it up as well, but am just slowly working on it as time allows.
To be honest I don't really enjoy ME2. It's decent but not my style (I don't like space or aliens). Dragon Age however was the single greatest game of all time in my book. Which says a lot considering how many games I've played over the decades.
The longer the game the better imo, DA took 60 hours, we'll see how ME2 goes.
I will miss you magnus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why... oh why... would you buy mass effect 2 if you dislike space or aliens? lolz. I loved DA as well - think i got more than 60 hours out of it. My buddy says he completed pretty much every mission in ME2 in 34 hours. I was a little surprized by that as well. The good news (or bad) is that the dragon age expansion is dueout soon.
He's not leaving cow. Magnus333 is going to be around, I'll make sure of it.
I'll second those nominations.
I also think RAWRRR is awesome and tier 1 is suitable for him. I just hope he hasn't left the game!
Given irek's comments just would like to add that, although it may not be a 100% correct, this player list is pretty good. To me it acts as a guide to people that are able to play in higher level games, and its rather accurate. Thats cause I played in pugs with some players from the list and they definately stood out from regular pugs, much more reliable teamwork wise. We beat premades with teammates from the list that i played for the first time with; would rarely happen with a regular pug. That means that this list servies its purpose well. Good job pacs
p.s.
fact that it may be composed of people that play premades or know eachover is not necessarily a problem. if people find it more enjoyable to play people of their skill that's what you should expect.
Nominating abuggeredhedgie for tier 1.
Never really saw him try until I had a 2v2 against him the other day. Me and Orcun vs Hedgie and Thundercles. When that kid puts in his A game, man does he know how to play. It was a fantastic game, Hedgie and Thunder eventually pulled out a win.
Thunder played really well too, but I don't know him well enough yet.
Oh I just noticed Mithrandar is not in the Tier 1 list either. THIS IS A CONSPIRACY!
ofc it is though pacov hasn't put himself in tier 1.....yet.....
Edit: I agree with split btw Pacov for tier 1.
Pacov, you should be in tier 1, no need for modesty.
I second this. For one thing, he does not have tower anxiety.
Nominated for tier "stop changing your freaking name" - wallstop.
Anyway, digging through the posts since I last commented to see what I've missed and who to add and blahblahblah
Does anyone know mooks67? I don't think I've played him before... anyway katana seems to think he's meh, so unless someone has something else to say about him, no spot on the list.
Heh - you fix their names or develop a magical process to whereby their names auto-update based on whatever billy wants to be called today.
gL-idealopamp and Thundercles added to tier 2 per request. I agree they belong in this list.
Rawwrrs's not playing all that much at this point. Mostly on Wow, last I heard, but he played a few games. He easily fits into tier 2 at least. Adding to tier 2 for now. I might remove him if I remember and notice he goes inactive.
Let's discuss hedgie some more - I think tier 1 might be appropriate for him. Trying to think why I'd have any reservations... he's consistently solid and an asset on any team... he gets team tactics and strategy... is good in 2v2, 3v3, etc. Hmm... what about character selection. His sedna is top notch... what else though? Anything else come to mind that he plays exceptionally well?
heh - the conspiracy is in GM collecting tier 1 players. This may have been discussed in this thread already, but I had some reservations about mith. Mostly just due to not getting to play with him all that much. I'm not sure what he's done or does in games that qualify him for tier 1. Maybe some replays (sorry if some were already posted or we talked about this one already).
I'll go to tier 1.... there's just something a little lame about creating a list and putting yourself at the top of the list.
Anyway, updating the list now. Feel free to discuss hedgie a bit more if you have any thoughts on him.
I support this tier.
I would also like to nominate mandatorycloud's regulus and minion oak to tier 2, though this is through my observation of playing with and against him.
bah don't worry ninki i don't care if I am in the tier 1 list or not
edit: deleted double post
I have a good Oak. You typically see my playing my Oak on Levi though, which is never good because I try to play like Sed and that doesn't work out -.-
I'm not gonna say I'm the best Oak in the game but it is uncommon for me to be "out-Oak'd".
I'm certainly one of the better DAs. Now, there really aren't a lot of people who have a good DA so I guess that isn't as impressive and DA is just a weaker character (I only go DA if the rest of my team is Oak-UB so Oak can shield my ass and UB can kill them and also only if they don't have a UB on their team). I haven't played a lot of my DA recently but I do have the replay where I beat lethstang here if you need to watch it:

I'm a decent Beast. I will say I'm never aggressive enough but I do know how to play him (not that it is exactly hard. Hit three, hit one, click a bad guy, right click, sigil, get a kill, talk shit) and I can play him in high-level games, it's just typically better for my team for me to go Sed because someone else is a better beast and I'm a better Sed.
I can play both TB and Occulus proficiently/well but I'm not comfortable with my skill level in high-tier games quite yet.
I'm a "bad" Erebus, Rook and Regulus in that you would never want me playing them in a competitive game even though I know how to play them.
I will say that my lack of being able to play every demigod competitively is my biggest flaw.
Yeah... just remember... tis but a silly list. But if you want to participate in the silly discussion, tell me why mith belongs in tier 1 and/or pop up some replays!
^Gah... I don't save replays but I guess I have to start. I shall get you in that list Mith, one way or another.
I actually didn't notice until Omicron brought it up. Now, it may look like that at first, but what actually happened was that I asked around people I play with on a regular basis, which happens to be part of the Tier 1 list. I think that has to do with the fact that most of the people I have been playing with were here since pretty much day 1, and all the good guys that made us seem like average players just quit the game.
I've beat omicron twice yesterday but didn't save the replays
hedgie - I'm going to have to pay attention to your oak. If I remember right, its a decent shield oak. You do what you do well, but nothing really stands out to me as awesome. Or... another way of saying that - hedgie goes oak - I'm not saying to myself "fuuuuuuuuccccck" - whereas your sedna can be quite troublesome I'll probably check out your replay against with da. I know what you mean about beast. You have a decent ub, but I agree with your assessment - doing the team thing usually means you end up as senda.
I'm going to have to pay more attention to your oak next time we are up against each other and you get the chance to use him. Or just throw a replay up here when you get the chance.
I don't know... imo, you're about as damn close to tier 1 as anyone could be. I'd pretty much call you out as the best sedna in the game and I think that's a pretty fair assessment.
