Why create this thread?
Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho. It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are. That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category. So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out. Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other. So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.
Your part if you want to participate
Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today? I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc). I'm happy to have everyone's feedback. I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight. Perhaps we'll get games going. You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.
You can nominate anyone you want. To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list. If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.
I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each. Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.
Tier 1 Demigod Players:
Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well. They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. These are players that do not cheat or desync games. These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game. Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.
Tier 2 Demigod Players:
These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same. Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2). The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.
Tier 3 Demigod Players:
A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...
Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:
These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat. You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.
Now i know why ThatGuyYouLove has such a good stats)) Well yes, he is playing good, but just as host just reseted a game which he wasn't sure will be won. Sad
Add : Sorry about that. My mistake. I thought it was host quit, but the game just appeared in stats. Kinda some connection issues i had. Two game in a row, i just thrown out of the games and got loss with some of teammates. Sigh
yeah and in addition "thatguy..." even kick guys like me, because stats aren´t over 50 or 60%. Due to playing pantheon on assassin side my stats are low - but he didn´t make efforts to let new people play his premade game. That´s no good sportmanship and if most guys on your list above behace like this, you will never attract more people to this game.....
ThatGuy doesn't desync. He has good stats because he is that good.
Gonzo, your win record isn't even 40%. In a "no noobs" game, you will be considered a liability by all sides. Host your own noob games.
I think iokke should be added to the list. He's a decent player.
I find it hilarious that no one has nominated the goddamn teamstacker Oakman.
im above 40%
but stats doen´t say anything about skill. If i had wanted, I would make premade game to push that score...thats senseless !
We had someone on vent and well we asked if you were good and you didn't respond for a few min so he kicked you
I always get a chuckle when someone says this. Stats are not determinative of skill but they are indicative. You are sitting at 42% right now. That's pretty low for a game that says Pros only or Be Good. Look at it this way, if you are pugging with that win percentage, your other two teammates are not likely to hang around when the other team is sitting at 65%+ and is a premade. Better for the host to boot right away than see the other two people on the team leave.
Maybe you are the great exception, but I can't tell you the number of times someone has told me they are the exception.
where does this replay place on the scale? (click to download)pantheon result http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/1201223/player/50684/p.s. my win % is like <50%, enemy team was average of 80%
Thanks epi;) need to get a game going 1 day
ya but shake (not snake ) i recognize you from the forums and the guides you've written as well as some excellent replays... thats not true of everyone with a <50% win %...
" reply="459" id="2504374"]where does this replay place on the scale? (click to download)pantheon result http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/1201223/player/50684/p.s. my win % is like <50%, enemy team was average of 80%
lol, Tocac is a super noob with 3 games in this epoch and didnt play since September in epoch 2. That is not what I will call an average of 80%. With such a teammate it is near impossible to get a good game. Didnt watch the replay, I will not waste my time with this.
" reply="463" id="2504507"]Tocac is a super noob he was in a premade with Wip who vouched for him, and he had 100% win ratio until he lost that game
iamKira and Wip are not premade, and Tacoc is still a noob, 100% in 2 games is just LOL
Thanks for your answer. When we were waiting for more people to come, I was back on desktop. So I couldn´t read your question and finally you kicked me for not answering I guess !
A pitty, could have been a good match. Played a premade then against the gang of "Alterschism", him playing a very good DA. Was a good match, which we closely lost.....
...btw, played a 3on3 with Darz4 - best QoT seen a long time!
I think a tourney is the best way to decide Tier 1...let the knights duel, until the best remain That would imply 1v1 eliminatory matches though....
Because if you make it team-wise, you could eliminate a good player just because he was stacked with a not-so-good one, against two(or 3) other very good players...now he may be Tier 1 material, but he can't hold the match 2v1 or 3v1
Yeah. It wasn't GuyLove who decided you should be kicked it was me and Maccalia. We asked several times if you were good, when you didn't even answered we figured you either were afk (= kick) or couldn't speak (=kick) so you shouldn't blame Guy.
The problem with 1v1 for me is that Demigod's very essential teamplay isn't shown. A tier 1 player should still shine lightest in a team imo.
Even if the player is tier 1 material and his teammates isn't it still should be able to be seen even though he/she isn't winning.
Agreed. I don't think any tourney re: this list should have 1v1 elements. I'm not at all certain how we'd do a tourney at this point. I still lean in the direction in that this should be a pug tourney and not premade. The focus of this list, as I intended it, is to show best individual players... not the best team out there. But then we get down to how do we make reasonable teams? We could randomly draw up 3v3 teams, but I'm not sure how fair that will be because I've made tier 2 the catch all category for now... surely there are wide levels of skill in the tier 2 list (some better, some worse). It doesn't prove all that much to create a stacked team from the tier 2s. So, I'm wondering if there is a fair way. Ideas are welcome, of course.
I should have a few hours tonight to get some games in. I'll either be hosting pugs or joining games if I see them. Hope to get to play with more of you soon. We can balance as needed if I'm the host so feel free to join for a fair matchup.
Single player campaign has a good random bunch of matches...
Single player also doesn't have to worry about lag for 5v5s... or time zones. Or anything.
pacov think your solution here would be a point system. That is each player plays many games as teams get shuffled constantly; no eliminations at least at that stage. So its kind of like a football season. get points for wins and since everyone would play with many different teammates against different teams you will get less bias from teammates or opponents, more games => more true results. there can be 2v2, 3v3, 1v1s if needed. after maybe have top players duke it out with the same system.. or elimination. like you said straight up elimanation is too team dependent.
Think something like this will show you the tier1 players better - they'll win on average more as they will carry teammates that other cant.
Problem is this probably is not a practical solution, too hard to organize and get players playing enough games. but if you know alot of people on the list or they are active enough maybe..
i declare myself tier 1 for single player. Just had a tourney and won.
Indeed. Something more practical would be best (no idea what that is), but your suggested system would work to some degree anyway.
I vote we go recess.
Pick a bunch of captains and pick teams. lol.
How many players will want to participate in it seriously? if around 50 people we can pull it off fairly easily. But by seriously i mean if they say I will play from 3-7pm central american they will play from 3-7pm.
A variation would be making groups based on people's playing timeslots.
Think group A group B etc in soccer.
Can make small groups or large groups, small groups will be easier to deal with. Ex: groups of 4 => 3 team variations for each player in both 3v3 and 2v2. at 3 games a day you can finish the group in 2 days the easy way. (more games are needed if you want each team to play vs each over team, than you will have a pretty accurate list of top players in the end).
if you have more people can still do groups of 4 - have players post when they can play and go 1234 - group a 5 6 7 8 - group b etc. Or make larger groups, where you always play with new teammates... how does that team randomizer program work is the forums? it may help. There maybe decide that each player has to do set number of 3v3 and 2v2 games. From each group top players advance to next one. Repeat the process, you will eventually have to mix time slots but you would in any other tourney.
Someone will get tougher schedule but thats true in all sports. now if you end up with 4 of best players in 1 group thats a problem. You can have a losers bracket to deal with that.
if you belong in top 10 players you'll still come out on top in the end.
top players (top 2 if you want to get a more accurate list) from all groups than form own group and player their matches. process continues untill you get your top players.
if there is a tie for any slot well go go 1v1 since tier 1 should be well rounded:)
Volunteer admins on each group would help. If ppl play their games it wont take you very long to finish this. the end will show you list of people who won most games with random teammates, they will be your top guys.
Hope this made sense i've not been getting sleep all week. Top 2 proceed, bottom 2 move down to losers bracket and do same there. the process repeats. People that get eliminated from their winners group and loosers bracket group get eliminated completely.
p.s.
2 ways to deal with loosers bracket btw: after win pump them back up into winners or do like people usually do sports - have em play out ill they get top4 players and than spread them into the remaining winners group
p.p.s.
people really need to want to do this though, if they find time to play we can pull it off with a fairily close accuracy.
Do a poll "Would you participate if a 3v3 cup was organized ?".If there are enough yes, create a forum with subsections like "subscribtions", "results and charts", "teams", "misc", etc. People would make their own teams, and people without teams would use the "team" subsection to try finding one. Once there are enough teams, create groups based on your knowledge of players in order to have groups of the same average level. Then create a calendar of the matches.
For example :
Week 1 : Group A Team 1 vs Group A Team 4, Group A Team 2 vs Group A Team 3,Group B Team 2 vs Group B team 4, etc.Week 2 : Group A Team 1 vs Group A Team 3, etc.
Teams have to schedule their matches themselves in the week. They give admins the screenshot of the final score chart, and admins report it as a result on the forum, creating one thread per result so people can post comments, and players can post replays if they want.
It is not so complicated. It is the most basic kind of competition we could organize, but it would already be a great initiative. Any volonteer ?
