Its us again! Here to bring you yet another exciting community topic!!!!
This topic is dedicated to any stories, lore, epic poems, novels, Role Playing...anything your heart desires to share!!!
We are always up for a good read and are excited to see what you all create from DS.
We will be featuring hopefully some neat post in this orginal post every so often. Maybe be something we liked or we though it need attention! So, aim your Ogrov at that writers block and get your fingers typing!
There aren't any rules, but we do have some guidelines to follow so that we all can participate and enjoy ourselves.-There is really no limit on what you post just as long as it is Distant Stars related.-Most members are participating in a single large story with the occasional side story or two. While this thread is certainly not limited to just that story, for the benefit of all readers and participants, please begin your post with how we're supposed to handle it. (Personal Story) (DS RP) (Trader Space) Examples of this can be found all throughout the thread or by looking at this post. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/372058/page/21/#2596003 This will help us all out by letting us know if you're trying to set yourself up to join the main lore, if you plan on just telling your own story, or if you're just writing lullabies for children to sing before they go to bed.-While we don't expect you to 'Play the game' in your stories, we do ask that you keep any liberties that you take be grounded within the game. For example: Talking about your space marines invading another ship is not something the game covers, so feel free to be inventive on how it would happen. However, carrying point singularity rifles that open up little black holes is beyond the scope of the game and will not be allowed. Soldiers with phasic armor that prevents them from being wounded let alone even being hit, while being relevant to the technology in the game would also not be allowed. The point is to be fair to the other people. We encourage you to ask yourselves, would this work in the game, and how would I feel if someone used this on me? If You feel strongly that it would work and you'd be okay with it being used against you, then by all means, use it. Fantasy posting, dream sequences, and April Fool's postings are of course, immune from this guideline.-We highly encourage you to message other members for help or advice. There is a TeamSpeak channel that is frequently used by the regulars to talk issues out or just shoot the breeze behind the scenes. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of these resources. Also, 'regulars' may send you messages with suggestions, concerns, or advice. It's nothing personal, so please do not be offended, they're just trying to help keep the lore consistent within these guidelines. If there's any doubt at all about anything, just message one of the people who you see posting a lot. If they don't know, they'll pass your message along to someone who does or tell you who you need to talk to.-It is also highly recommended that you message other RPers before posting anything involving their stuff. If you don't, you're likely going to find all of DS rising up against you.-In an effort to reduce clutter, we're asking that Out Of Character (OOC) commenting be either sent to the individual for whom it is intended by using the private message feature, or take it to another thread. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/366762 is a thread frequented by many of the lore writers and random comment posting about anything under the sun is highly encouraged there as well in an attempt to get the thread locked. Enjoy.

We ask that you look through these to help you better understand the region.-About Distant Stars- https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/372058/page/11/#2532381This post will give you a lot of basic information on what the region of space is like, how to get there, and who is there waiting for you.-Distant Stars Maps- https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/372058/page/23/#2604760This post provides you with a quick look at the region and provides you with a download link where you can get yourself a copy of the posted maps in their unreduced forms. They're very helpful when trying to figure out where to go and who you're likely going to run into when you get there. Maps of individual systems are posted throughout the thread. They're generally posted by the first person to explore the system. If you don't know if a system has been explored or not or want to see a map of a system that has been explored, ask around via PM or TeamSpeak. Someone will point you to the place.-Character Biographies- https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/372058/page/11/#2532380This post is a general collection of the main RP characters whom you will likely have contact with. We ask that all people posting in the main lore post their main character(s) bio as soon as possible so that the rest of us have a little background on who your character is, how they like to fight, where do they come from, and why they're there. Read the existing bios for examples on what we're looking for.

Ryan’s ships arrived at their destination, a giant urban planet in the Mytivias system, which neighboured the Daros system. He turned his attention to the scan of the planet’s gravity well. There was a trade port with no activity around it, a badly damaged Temple of Communion, and the usual collection of resource extractors. And then there were the Illuminators. Two had split off from a group of another two, and were approaching rapidly. Ryan was about to give the order to prepare for combat, when a psychic message came through.
Welcome to Gromov, fellow Advent vessel. We haven’t seen a friendly face in ages!
This is Knight Ryan Thorse of the Garran Collective. I see that this planet is already a part of the Unity.
If only that were so, my friend. We’ve had some… issues recently. Wait a second, and I’ll get you a secure channel to our council.
Ryan ordered for a screen to be lowered, and sure enough, a face appeared on it.
“Hello, Knight Thorse. I am the council chairwoman, Fiona Dant. I am assuming from your confusion that you are not a scouting party for a rescue team.”
“No,” Ryan replied, “you assume correct. Why do you need rescuing?”
The story was a long one. The planet had been an Advent colony for a while, the locals having turned to the Unity. However, almost one year ago, a pirate fleet had jumped into the gravity well along the phase lane that didn’t lead to the star. On arrival, the bulk of the pirate fleet engaged the small defensive force of the planet. Meanwhile, a Dunov in the pirate fleet activated some sort of weapon. The Dunov had exploded in the process, but it did its job. All psychic links leading out of the gravity well were severed. The defensive fleet was overwhelmed, and most of the orbital structures destroyed. The pirates then halted, and asked to discuss the terms of Gromov’s surrender. An agreement was reached that eighty percent of the planet’s metal, crystal and tax income would go to the pirates. The defending fleet would be cut down to four Illuminators. The pirates would send stolen trade ships to pick up the goods from the trade port. If the pirates weren’t happy with what they were receiving, they would bomb the planet. The planet had no way of getting help, with a crippled Temple of Communion and no connection with the Unity. Sensing opportunity, Ryan thought out an offer.
“Well, you seem to be an independent Unity of your own. To tell you the truth, the Garran Collective is another new Unity.”
“So you’re thinking…”
“Do you know what the strength of the pirate forces is?” Ryan asked.
“Secret scans we have performed tell us that they have a weak starbase orbiting a gas giant near here. They only have two capital ships, a stolen Halycon and a large, makeshift flagship. They also have about ten re-outfitted Kodiaks and about ten more customised Cobalts. Of course, there are the trade ships, which have some light weapons, but they shouldn’t be a problem.”
“That sounds manageable, but I’ll put it past our admiral just in case. Now, if we were clear your pirate problem, I’m sure that you would have no problem joining up with us.”
“Your offer is interesting, and I doubt that any other Advent forces will come looking for us after almost a year.”
“Excellent. I shall take this news to our leader. I’m sure that he can come here and figure out a battle plan soon. Hold out until then.”
“Does it look like we have much of a choice? I wish you safe passage back home.”
“Thanks, and hopefully safe passage all the way back here again.”
With this, Ryan set off back to Rebirth, hoping that Thenos would agree with his plan of action, and that he wasn’t leading the Collective into anything that they couldn’t handle.
(DS RP) (IM SOOOOOOOOOOOO Sorry Ive taken soooooooo long for this crappy post your about to read. I have been unmovtivated by stuff happening. This is not what I orginally had planned to write but its not fair for yall to wait on my sorry ass.)
Carbon sat tapping his fingers on the arm rest. Waiting for the light to change. Everyone sat quitely prepared to jump into the fray. The Carbon Division sat ready to make the jump to Portage via the phase gate. All they were waiting for was this blasted signal light.Tap.Tap.Tap.Tap.Ta...The holoproject buzzed as the icon turned green. "About damn time." Carbon stated. "Start the jump. Shield pattern as we planned." The bridge of the Event Horizon became a hot bed of activity as the wait was over. Com Techs sent and confired orders as the Division broke up and Task Forces began the jump in order. Within 5 mins everyship had left Eras. The repair and preperation amoung Lord Ryat's fleet. "Sir, I can confirm Carbon has jumped. ETA should be 7 mins." a com tech shouted to Lord Ryat as he watched the holoprojector update with the lastest intel. Including what J'Rat scouts were reporting from Portage 3. The Vasari answer to the sudden surge of TEC ships from their own Phase Gate. 7 Kortuls, 5 Skirantras, 6 Jarrasuls, 3 Antoraks, 4 Vulkoras, 200 Enforcers, 34, Overseers, 60 Subverters, 80 Carriers, 25 Sentinels, 150 Assailants, 40 Skirmishers. When they jump in systems was unknown but they were coming and they were angry. As the ship shook as it left phase space. Carbon took note that some of the first Task Forces through were already clearing the rest of the minefield. With the last few ship now in the grav well. Carbon turned to Braken, "Lets have the fleet from on the far side...here." Point out a spot in the grav well on the Holomap. Braken nodded and turned to relay the order..."Not to close to Lord Ryats fleet." Carbon said " Do remember Antiguan." Braken looked back...and paused making sure the High Paragon had nothing else to add. Carbon said nothing more as he watch the map. Braken returned to giving orders.
(No longer necessary view edit for original post)
The Vasari fleet waited as the last of Carbon's fleet vanished into phase space. With the Kortul J'Kartha, three Vulkoras, fifty Karrastras and a Jarrasul, which the humans called The Egg which when J'rah was shown what an egg looked like he agreed as well, fill with combat troops ready to invade Portage VII. The planet had a massive human population that the Kris Slavers used as slaves. Lord J'rah knew he couldn't just bombard and smash the planet, he needed to rescue the humans. Hence the need for combat troops. Of course that didn't mean that he wouldn't use orbital bombardment to support his troops. Lord J'rah watched as Xenon's and Alexander's fleets formed up behind his, waiting their turn. Carbon's fleet was to clean up all the mines around the phase gate, Ryat's had just pushed a hole to get to the enemy fleet. So his fleet waited patiently for the signal. He knew around his fleet many were making last minute corrections and tweaks, hoping to get the best out of their equipment when the time came. He could only wait, his claw tapping lightly on his chair. Sometimes the hardest part of battle was the wait. Some mild activity at the comm station caught his attention, but it was nothing but a report from the Baril system which the J'kar had made their new home mentioning that the last of planet had been pacificed. It was a small Advent colony and fell quickly to his forces. Skijar had used its planet extraction tool to ruthlessly crush any resistance there. He knew neither Ryat nor Carbon would have any problems with that. More activity bubbled forth and the moment came. "My Lord, Lord Carbon reports that all mines are clear," his comm officer reported. "Excellent, begin phase jump," he ordered. The once calm and tranquil bridge became a buzz with activity as orders were given and carried out. Ships formed up and entered phase space. They cut through like tuna through the sea and came out in a brilliant flash of whitish blue. Portage VII lay before them like an emeral green gem, its forests almost gleamed green in the greenish tinge of the its sun. The Vasari fleet moved to estabilish orbit around the planet. "We will soon have our targets, my lord," his ops officer reported. Lord J'rah merely nodded his head and set his holoprojector to show the battle that was still raging. He knew that Lord Ryat had smashed the defending fleet, but the Kris Slavers had sent in reinforcements. But Carbon had come in to handle them and to watch him was something else. Where Ryat would thrust like a fine blade, Carbon hammered with his force like a sledgehammer. Where Ryat would feint, Carbon threw in another hammer. His fleet slammed into the Vasari like a herd of elephants, Ryat had shown J'rah what an elephant was, and the Kris Slavers crumbled before the onslaught. Carbon's Event Horizon was in the middle of the firefight, its guns blazing away with the occasional Ion Bolt to shutdown an enemy. The Vasari fired back but it just shrugged off the hits with its armor and tore through the Vasari. Vasari cruisers and frigates died in droves, with the occasional capital ship exploding in violence. Through skillful use of Dunovs and Hoshikos, Carbon didn't lose a single capital ship and his cruisers and frigates took only light casualties. "My lord we have our targets," the ops officer said. "Begin bombardment," he said quietly as he watched Carbon and Ryat clean up the stragglers and moved out to secure the gravwell. Lord J'rah's fleet began to carefully position themselves around the planet and lined up on their targets. Almost as one, reddish orange beams lashed out onto the planets surface, scorching their targets. Plumes of atmosphere boiled around the beams as the superheated air reacted to the attack. Trees around the areas died and formed ugly black spots on the verdent planet. All the ships stopped and then shifted targets and begin firing again. This went on several times then the main defenses of the planet were gone. "Begin landing the troops," Lord J'rah said "Remember to attack Vasari only." The Jarrasul began to release its cargo of troops at precise locations. Time drifted by, Lord J'rah was once again sitting, waiting. He opened up a channel to Lord Ryat. "How are things?" he said conversationally. The face on the screen of Lord Ryat was not its usually clean precise look. Soot was smeared on his forehead, hair was messy and a thin red line creased acrossed his cheek. "Alright considering," Ryat said, "Those new phase missiles of thiers are nasty. I'd say at least forty to forty-five percent of the time they weren't even touching our shields. If we didn't have that new armour our loses would have been heavier." "Well, I'm glad that you made it through," J'rah said, "And Carbon?" "He seems to be fine," Ryat said, "The reinforcements weren't nearly as organized for armed and he smoked them with minimal loses. Must be nice." "My lord," J'rah's op officer spoke quietly, "We are recieving reports from the invasion force." "Report then," he commanded. "They have secured the main facilities and all orbital functions are under our control," the officer responded. "All that remains is mop up operations." "Excellent," Lord J'rah said, "Now the crew aboard the Kostura Cannon are on their own. Signal Paragon Xenon and Admiral Alexander." "At once my lord."
The signal was well received, the comm officer aboard the David looking to Alexander, "Admiral, we have a green light."
"Is Xenon on the same page?"
"Yes, sir. His men are preparing now," he replies.
"Alright. Ensign, take us out of here. This is Green Fleet's territory now."
"Aye, sir," the ensign says before engaging the jump drive. The two fleets move their forces in tandem through phase space, momentarily being engulfed in white flashes before arriving at Portage VII. The holoprojector shows a cluster of red blips fleeing towards the edge of the gravity well while J'rah's men encompass the planet as thoroughly as they can. The Kostura Cannon sits close to the orb, silent and still.
"Sir, Paragon Xenon's forces are approaching the Kostura Cannon," the tactical officer announces.
Alexander, his face still while conflict was present, orders, "All fighters break and attack enemy forces. I want Blue Fleet to join in low orbit with J'rah's forces and have the Akkans assist on the ground. Our priority is getting every human off that planet. Stuff the Dunovs to their seams if you have to. Red Fleet covers Xenon. I want a spherical formation, support vessels on the inner track and the Osiris smack dab in the center. Coordinate all marine shuttles through Paragon Xenon."
The bridge buzzes with activity as vessels break their formations and adjust flight paths. The gunships and bombers make a hasty departure to the field of battle, pelting their foes with every round they can squeeze through their barrels. With J'rah's forces subduing the planet and Carbon's in pursuit, the area is fairly calm. The Akkans dispatch their shuttles early, expending fuel in exchange for time gained. The Dunovs and Sovas closing a tight sphere around Xenon's vessels begin launching marine shuttles, each hanging close to the Kostura Cannon without daring to breach until Xenon's men give the signal. When the sphere settles around the Kostura's position, the Kols point their noses outward, contributing spikes to the formation. Alexander looks over to Frishman, "Lieutenant Commander, have all men keep their eyes peeled, both for anything jumping in and on our Vasari allies. I'm not interested in hearing we have a bad deal."

(Personal / DS) Later that day, after their duties were complete, Casey and Todd met up at one of the cities on Finley 2 still under heavy construction. They entered the recreation facility and borrowed some sparring equipment. A small curious crowd formed around them as they entered the ring to begin their exercise. "All right Case... Ladies first." Todd says while shadow boxing at her. She throws a few quick jab combos without so much as uttering a single syllable. Todd easily blocks the flurry and comments on her technique, "You're fighting like a little girl. Worse, you're leading with your feet." Not particularly keen on being corrected at the moment, Casey throws a couple much harder and faster jabs, followed by a cross, which Todd again easily blocked and avoided. He continues his mental attack, "I told you I've gotten better. Your best is at most a slight nuisance. Everyone here is witness that I'm too good for you!" Her blank expression turns to anger as she ups her game once again, but Todd still manages to block or dodge everything with only minor difficulty. He continues, "All things considered, I'd probably make a better Advent then you too..." Casey's eyes narrow with raw hatred. She lunges forward throwing a punch that is as unrefined as a person who just stepped into the ring for the first time. Todd steps to the side as she lunges at him, leaving nothing but his gloved fist behind to pop her in the face as she passes by. As Todd expected, she ran right into it, what he didn't expect though, was that after taking the hit, she just stood there in the middle of the ring facing away from him as if she had been frozen in time. Eyes closed, breathing heavy, maintaining no fighting posture whatsoever. Todd cautiously walks up to arms length behind her and nudges her right between the shoulder blades. Her eyes slowly opened as her expression turned to a devious grin. With lightning speed, she spun around, set her feet, and tried to throw another cross, forcing Todd to retreat a couple of steps. He grins and comments, "Now that I've got your attention, should we start?" Casey shakes her head and answers while laughing to herself, "I am definately going to kick your ass now." For the next half hour or so they exchanged blows and insults, a sparring match that degenerated into more horseplay then anything, until a group of people wanting to get in some real training asked if they could have the ring. When they exit, Casey shoves Todd and says, "Go home, loser." "Me? I didn't lose, you're the one who got hit in the face, remember?" "Funny, that's not how I remember it happening." she says with a smile. "I got witnesses..." "Witnesses that will say we hadn't started yet." Todd eyes her up realizing she has her wits back. "So what's been eating at ya?" "Oh nothing... ... ... Just remembering some things from the past. That guy, Thenos, I think I know him, but I can't remember if I know him, know him, or just know of him." "Yeah, the past. You know I used to be bad at boxing once." Casey laughs, "As opposed to how you are now? You must have suuuuucked." "In all of the hours I've spent crawling around in the bowels of a ship, I've never once run across another mechanic or engineer that didn't take pleasure in stepping into the ring and going a few rounds." "Maybe it has to do with the technical nature and the precision involved." "Could be, but for me, its more along the lines of while you do have to put everything together properly to put up a good fight, if you screw up, it's no big deal, no one dies... The worst that happens is you stand there like a fool, like you did after taking a shot to the face." Casey smiles and throws her gloves at Todd, "Hey! You're a jerk, you know that?" Todd smiles back and picks up the gloves to turn them in. "Go get cleaned up, dinner's my treat." The following day everyone is back at work when Roesh gets Henry, Todd, and Casey on a secure channel. "I haven't been able to get ahold of Gerrard yet, but I'll keep trying." He says. Todd is the first to answer. "No worries boss, I've got about a month's worth of work here to review and oversee the final testing and sign off on. The more I get done now, the faster I can get back to my first love..." "Watching men do strange things to sheep?" Casey comments with an evil grin. "Twisting wrenches." Todd adds dryly. "You're a sad little boy aren't you. Did you not get hugged enough as a child?" Casey asks. "I got hugged plenty. Unlike you, I didn't spend my life running away from everyone." Todd fires back. "Har har..." Casey comments sarcastically. "Who is Gerrard? I thought I knew all of our contacts and connections." Henry asks. "Gerrard is a special projects contractor." Roesh answers. Casey mutters to herself, "Yo ho, yo ho , a pirate's life for me..." "I can't believe that even after all of these centuries, people still say that." Henry remarks. "Yeah, it's just one of those things you wish would just die already, but lingers on through eternity..." Roesh comments. "So Case, we've been taxing your division pretty hard lately, need more refineries or people?" Henry asks. "I could probably use another refinery on the first moon of Finley 4. It'll cut down the delay of having to go all the way around the gas giant to get the loads in." "Okay, we'll make that a priority." Henry says. "Oh, by the way boss, I fixed that problem you told me about yesterday." Todd adds. "Very good." Roesh replies. "That reminds me, these new strike craft variants we have now, they'll work on Argonev's right?" Henry asks. "Yes... If the Argonev has room for them, it can use them." Todd answers. "If you guys are done with me, I'm gonna go handle a couple of problems that just popped up on my screen." Casey asks. "No, I think that's it." Henry says. "I'm gonna come by again tonight for round 2 of fun and mayhem." Todd says. "Yeah, thanks... I needed that." Casey says right before she severed her connection to the conversation. Roesh looks at Todd and says with a puzzled expression, "She seems more relaxed now... You two didn't..." Todd answers, "No boss. Never date a coworker." Roesh chuckles while shaking his head, "I was gonna say, you two didn't go knock off a convenience store or something, but you're right, don't be doing that either." Henry laughs before excusing himself from the rest of the conversation. "I guess I should go and see exactly where we're going to put those starbases Henry wants..." Roesh says. "I'll be here at my desk all day, boss." Todd says before cutting the connection. Not really having anything to do, Roesh decides to hop onto a trade ship and head out to the Daros system to see how things are going without being noticed.

To get around any problems with losing post material, I type it into Word first, then copy and paste it into the reply box. That's also why my posts are all in times new roman, because I use Word 2003. But anyway, yeah that must be pretty annoying.
Oops, pretty much what Ryat said, but oh well.

Thenos’ fleet prepared to jump to the Mytivias system. His initial meeting with Chairwoman Dant and the rest of the council, shortly after Ryan’s return, had been very successful. The council had mainly been concerned with ridding themselves of the pirates and getting some sort of security. They didn’t seem to particularly mind that the solution would involve joining a separate body to the Unity. One had pointed out that the planet was its own separate Unity now anyway, so it couldn’t hurt to simply expand to be a larger whole, as part of the Collective. The final agreement had been that military personnel would be transferred from Gromov to Rebirth, where they would crew ships that had been quickly manufactured, through the use of multiple frigate factories. These new crews had been integrated into the Collective alongside key personnel on Gromov, to ensure perfect fleet communication even before the main populace of Gromov was integrated. Now, Thenos had four Aerias, which supported six squadrons of bombers and six squadrons of fighters between them, twelve Destras, the Revenge, and two Illuminators, which would be joined by the four at Gromov. Finally, Ryan’s six Disciples had gone ahead, and were already at the Mytivias star. No military ships would be present in the Daros system, but there were now reliable defences guarding the routes from the star, and to the deep space sector. Also, the people of Rebirth could always call on Roesh for some extra protection.
Arriving at Gromov, Thenos was greeted by Dant psychically, as she was one of the new members of the Collective.
Nice to see you Thenos. As you can see, we’ve almost completed the defences for when their retaliation fleet arrives.
Nice work, Thenos replied, but have you got any info on the incoming convoy?
Indeed we have. It has all five of their trade ships, as per usual, with a guard of three of their Kodiaks and five of their Cobalts. It shouldn’t be much of a challenge, considering your fleet size.
I appreciate your confidence in us. When are they due to arrive?
In two hours. The phase jump inhibitor will be working by then, and we have reverse-engineered their experimental radio jamming equipment that we captured in the original battle. The fleet that comes to investigate the disappearance will have no idea what it’s up against.
Sure enough, the ships arrived after a short wait, and were unaware of the trap that had been set. Thenos’ fleet, which had been waiting by the pirates’ exit point from phase space, immediately went into action. The fighter and bomber drones of the Aerias poured towards the enemy trade ships, crippling them with expertly aimed shots from the anima. Next, the Revenge, accompanied by the Destras, moved in to engage the escort ships, as Ryan’s Disciples gracefully dived between the enemy vessels, dodging fire to reach the trade ships and deal the final blows. The Illuminators, stationed away from the main fleet and further into the gravity well, prevented enemy movement by cutting off escape routes with their long range lasers.
Thenos sat in the midst of it all, receiving reports, giving out orders. The chain of communication in an Advent fleet was fairly simple. The highest ranked officer, in this case Thenos, would give orders to the leaders of the different groups of ships. He received and sent messages from and to Ryan, who would exchange messages with all of the ships under his command. As an enemy Cobalt tried to make a break for it, Thenos pointed the ship out to the Illuminator commander, who then ordered the other Illuminators to open fire on it. Then there was the on board chain of command. As a damaged Kodiak rerouted power to its engines to try and shoot past the Revenge, Thenos sent a message to Daala, who then relayed the command to the gunnery officer on the bridge, who then coordinated the fire of the gunners on the starboard side of the ship to effectively tear the enemy Kodiak apart with laser fire. Of course, Thenos could always skip out Daala and message the gunnery officer straight away, but it was easier to concentrate on coordinating the fleet and to allow the second-in-command to handle what orders went where on the ship. Due to a lack of communication and discipline in the pirate fleet, the battle was much shorter than was expected. Soon, only two Cobalts were left, fleeing, but being chased down by Ryan’s Disciples. Two short lived balls of fire and a quick psychic message from Ryan told Thenos that the Cobalts were no more. Receiving reports from his main commanders, Thenos discovered that there had been no losses. He hadn’t expected any, as the pirate fleet had performed very poorly. To be fair, they hadn’t been expecting a fight. He sent a message to Dant.
We’ve won this battle, Thenos said, but a larger one is ahead. Are the repair platforms ready?
Yes, Dant replied, and I’ve been informed that most of the orbital weaponry is also finished.
Excellent. We’ll perform any repairs we need to, and then I suppose it’s just a matter of time.
It wouldn’t be long before the pirates noticed that their allies hadn’t returned. Then, they would arrive with the intent of exacting vengeance on the planet. If the scans of the system were right, that would mean that the fleet would soon have two capital ships to deal with, but Thenos had plans for the Halycon. He needed another capital ship, and he wanted to know how the pirates could control a PsiTech dependant ship.

The hanger of the Osiris was a swarm of activity. Shuttles moved back and forth from the Osiris to the eight Acrovia Scout ships that Xenon used as boarding ships against his opponents. They where each loaded with a single combat crew. Each crew consisted of two heavy exo-suits, and twelve regular exo-suit marines. Xenon had decided to join one of the crews, as he needed to clear his head. The shuttles moved back to the Osiris as the scout ships began to move toward the Kostra Cannon. Alexander had done his part securing the space around the cannon, so now Xenon would take the inside, by force. As the ships closed the space between them and the cannon, Xenon received a message from the Osiris.
“Sir, the David’s Lions are sending men also, seems they wont take no for an answer. What do you advise?” was the message he received
“ Tell them to take and hold the control room, the power room, and the communication deck” Xenon sent back
The scout ships moved to the air locks, locking on to them. The men in the ship Xenon was on started to make sure they had all of their gear. One shot Xenon a worried look as he finished going over all of his gear. The leader of the group stood up yelling at his men,
“ Make sure you keep cover, and don’t be a hero!”
His men replied with a yell before they all lined up at the air lock. A few seconds later the lights inside the ship went black as two red lights on either side of the air lock lit up. The small ship shook as the air lock to the cannon was blow open, a few seconds later the air lock on the ship opened as the two large exo-suits quickly moved out of the ship, the large anti-personal auto-guns firing as they surged forward. The Visari that were guarding the cannon shot back as the other men started to move out, shooting as they tried to find some cover form the pulse rifles that where being used against them. The large exo-suits had stopped their advance, finding cover behind some pipes on either side. The fire fight contined as each side shot at each other. The Visari had numbers, but the large suits evened out the battle. The Kostra shook as gun fire and explosions rang out across multiply decks. The Visari where dug in deep, as they had mounted guns and cover that allowed them to keep Xenon’s men hidden and unable to move forward. One of the men threw a frag grenade over his head, aiming blindly for the opposite side. It went far to the left, mission the defenders. The blast shook the area, as part of the wall and the ceiling where blow away. Electricity sparked out of wires as fire came billowing out of the new hole. Just then more gun fire was heard to the right of the Visari, as they crumpled to the ground and small pools of blood began to spill out of their bodies. The men, who had been keeping their head down, slowly peered out from their cover, wondering why the defenders had stopped. As they began to get up and start to move forward, they can face to face with a group of men that where dress differently then they were. Instead of power armor, they had an older looking armor, it looked to have ceramic plates in it. They also carried older rifles, but ones that were known for being very reliable. The barrels on their guns still smoking, the one in the lead spoke up first.
“ Seems like you fellas could use a hand” He said as he stopped in front of the group
“ We are fine thanks, who are you” The crew leader asked this new man.
“ They are allies, let them do what they came to do” Xenon said in a very robotic voice as he finally left the ship they came on.
The Lions all raise their guns at the new thing coming toward them. A Giant robot, eight feet tall covered in think armor. A small slit toward the top only reveals a red light coming from it. It had a large claw as its left hand with a small flame in the middle of it. Its right hand was a large gauss gun. On each sholder sat a rocket launching system. Each leg was massive, as they bent the opposite way of a normal human. The hulking mass moved behind the Xenon’s combat crew.
“ What is that?!”
The Robot moved, as if facing the man,
“ I am the death of the Advent “

Just wondering if there's a fix for this, it's happened once before and is happening now. For some reason, I can't scroll down beyond the top of post 312, so I can't read Xenon's latest post, or any that come after it. It happened before on pg 9, with a different post, but I didn't miss any story posts I think. Strange thing is, I can access Xenon's latest post from my other computer, just not my laptop, which is more convenient. Anyway, if you don't know what I should do I can always post from my other computer, so it isn't a huge issue.
Thanks, that would explain it, as the other computer uses firefox. I'm already getting firefox ready to be installed on the laptop, so that should be the end of the problem.
(Personal / DS) On a trade ship, Roesh arrives in the Daros system. From his seat on the command deck he can see no fleet presence at the star. His hopes for getting an updated system map will have to wait. Their ship broadcasts their ID and a request for instructions. Within seconds, a reply is transmitted as to which route to take. Continuing on, they line up on the phase lane to get to their destination. In a flash of blue and white, they appear on the edge of the gravity well for the planet now known as Rebirth, they find out as the info on the system updates on their screens when they receive docking assignments from the trade port. Since trade ships don't have the high grade equipment that a military vessel has, Roesh passively scans the planet and surrounding grav well by sweeping it for energy readings and deciphers the data. Again, he's surprised to find some defensive structures in place, yet no fleet. Curious, he takes the seat of the comms officer and hails the trade port control station. He says, "This is the RFT trade ship at dock, we're dropping off agricultural goods and medical supplies and are authorized to recieved any goods you'd like to barter with." The trade port comms officer replies, "Yes sir. We read your ship's manifest that was transmitted to us when you jumped into our system." "Roger that. We also have a private message for Thenos from Roesh, is he by any chance available to receive it?" "Negative sir, he is unavailable at this time, you can store the encoded message on our secure servers and transmit the unlocking code at a later time if you wish." "Thank you, but no, our orders are to transmit directly." "As you wish. Is there anything else I can help you with?" "Actually yes, most of the crew would like to go for a walk on someting besides the confines of this ship, is there any place they can go while the goods are being unloaded?" "Yes, the docking decks, cargo decks, and visitor decks are all available for unrestricted travel. The visitor decks have several lounges where you can participate in short recreational activities while you wait for transfers to complete." "Very nice. Thank you." "You're welcome. Anything else, feel free to access the information stations scattered about." "We will. thanks again." Roesh says before cutting the comm link. Turning to the captain, he continues, "Captain, authorize all non essential crews to take a break for a couple hours. I'm going to see if I can't find out a little more info on where their fleet is." "Absolutely sir, I'm sure the crew will love that." She answers. Roesh disembarks with a few dozen other crew members who all scatter into small groups and begin to explore the trade port. Roesh is reminded of his own trade port when he sees the lack of personnel and hastily slapped together furnishings randomly strewn about the place. He muses about his first port in trader space and how he and Henry could barely afford the generators to keep the station powered up, much less the expenses of operating a fleet. He smiles as he walks down the halls and peeks into most of the rooms he passes. When he reaches the end of a corridor he stops and walks back to the elevator. When he steps inside he presses a button that is supposed to take him to the command and control deck, and then presses another that will take him to one of the visitor decks. At the command deck when the doors open again, Roesh is treated to the sight of a guard posted just outside. He says, "Sorry, pressed the wrong button by accident. Pressed the right one already if you want to see..." pointing to the control panel. The guard squints his eyes sizing Roesh up, but otherwise remaining motionless. The doors close and don't open again until Roesh is taken to his second destination. Leaving the elevator, he hears some commotion down the hall. When he finds the source he sees that it's nothing more then a holovid arcade. Although geared for Advent, some consideration was put into place for those not wishing, or unable, to use psionics. Roesh mumbles to himself, "That's a good way to make some quick money, I'm going to have to borrow that idea." One of the crew members stops playing a game and yells to him. "Hey boss! You gotta check this out. I hear you used to be one of the best frigate pilots out there. This game, you take command of a seeker vessel and pilot it through enemy territory. Wanna show us trade shippers how it's done?" the crewman asks. Roesh replies, "What do you mean 'Used to be?' I can still fly circles around most strike craft pilots." Roesh takes up position at the controls and starts displaying his exceptional skills. A small crowd gathers from other crew members and station personnel nearby as Roesh works his way through several Vasari blockades mostly untouched. Sensing that he's gathering far too much attention for himself, he hands over control to the pilot who challenged him and excuses himself from the room. His next destination is the cargo decks, he walks into an unoccupied bay and accesses an information station. He tries to access information on the system but is only given what any other visitor would be given. Trying to find fleet information, again he's only given rough statistics on the ships, but nothing specific to what is actually present in the system. Trying some tricks he's learned over the years to circumvent the security in place still yealds no results. Roesh walks away and heads back to the ship figuring that the information contained on this space station simply isn't what he's after. Once all of the goods are unloaded and a few new things that caught their interest were loaded, the captain asks if a general station brodcast could be made to recall all of her personnel to the ship so they can leave. Once everyone was aboard, they headed back to one of the Finley trade ports.
( Ds Lore )
The two groups of men began to move down the hallway, Xenon's men just looking for trouble, and the Lions looking for thier objective. They stayed together, only comming across a few scatered Visari, untill they reached the power room.
" This is where we stop" The Lions told Xenon's men
" Alright we will continue on, call for help if you need it" the crew leader responed
" How about you call us if you need help" The Lion shot back
The crew leader ingored his comment motioning for his men to keep moving forward. Xenon sat at the back of the group not saying a word. After a few more encounters with the random Visari they came to a split, they could go left or right. The Crew leader looked down both directions, not sure which way to go.
" Well men, what do you say, left or right?"
The men argued for about five minutes before settling on going right. The group took off down the hallway keeping guns raised incase they came accross any more Visari. They continued to move down the hallway untill the faint sound of gun fire could be heard up ahead.
" Lets move boys, looks like some action is up there" The crew leader yelled before he took of running. His crew was right behind him as they tried to locate the noise they heard. They ran down the hallway comming to a corner, as they rounded the corner they came face to face with a large group of Visari.
" Oh Shi"
The Visari opened fire on the men, as they shot back. The crew leader, since he was stand right in front of one, pulled his knife out and tried to stab the alien in front of him. The Visari was quick and was able to grab his hand and hold him back. All around the two men and aliens alike fell from gun fire as they stook face to face shooting. The two continued to struggle with each other, as the two exo-suits came around the corner, the first was able to grab one of the Visari, hold it up off of the ground. The other opened fire on the group of aliens, that where now trying to find cover. Most of the men where either dead or wounded, with the only exeptions being the crew leader and the two exo-suits.
The crew leader continued to stuggle with the Visari, finially starting to over power it. Then he felt a searing pain on his leg, as it grew hot, and eventually lost feeling in it. He looked down to see that his leg had been hit, and it was bleeding out as he stood there. In the seconds the crew leader looked at his leg, the Visari he had been fighting forced the knife back at him. The Knife stood, standing from the crew leader's upper left chest. He felt the pain of it shoot up though him as he fell to the ground. He rolled over to see the two exo-suits, still battling, and Xenon, as he walked around the corner. His vision fell black as he let out his last breath.
The two exo-suits continued to battle, using thier guns, and one used the Visari it had picked up as a weapon, throwing it back at his own people. They had moved to cover on either side of the hallway that the Visari where now bunkered down in. Xenon came around the corner, lifting the gauss gun. No sound was heard as the metal slug left the gun, flying at extream speeds toward the Visari. The round went though the make shift cover they where using and hit one fo the defeders, ripping his body in two as the slug passed though it. A loud band was heard as the slug hit the wall behind the Visari, making a hole in the wall where it hit.
Xenon waited a few seconds as the next round was being loaded in the gun. He took air at another one of the Visari, letting another round fly. The gore splattered aginst the back wall let him know he had hit his target. Xenon advanced forward, the pulse rifle rounds not affecting the heavy armor he wore. The other two exo-suits followed thier paragon, movinf forward, letting thier auto-cannons deal with any Visari that was exposed. The next round loaded in Xenon's gauss gun as he reached the cover the Visari where using. He ripped away the cover with his claw, raising his gun yet again. The round cought the next alien in the leg, ripping it off and sending him spinning in the air for just a second before he landed with thud on the metal floor. The other Visari began falling back, leaving the injured one behind.
Xenon moves forward and picks up the injured Visari, holding it in his claw. The alien was soon ingulfed in flame as it was burned alive in the claw. Xenon through the body aside as he, and his now personal bodyguard, chased after the ones that got away.
They where able to catch up to the fleeing Visari right as they entered a room. Gun fire could be heard close by as well as many explosions. The room door was closed as the Visari tried to hide form the three Robotic monsters. Xenon moved up to the door, he shoved his claw though the door, then ripped the door away as he threw it to the side. Inside there was more Visari. This must be one of the strong holds they where using to fend off the attackers, Xenon thought. Xenon moved inside, shrugging off the rifle fire, letting loose with another shot. He came close to a group of Visari, letting his flamer loose on them. Another Visari was close by on Xenon's right. Not having a round ready to shoot, his gun was used as at club, hitting the Visari sending it flying into the wall. Xenon turned his flamer on anything that decided to move in that room, as the other two men in the exo-suits sat outside, watching in horror at the chaos inside. As the numbers inside grew smaller and smaller, many of the Visari begged for thier life, only to have Xenon bat them aside or burn them on the spot.
Xenon exited the room, saying to the two men there,
"Send the Osiris as message, i think i left my room light on, Oh and make sure we have medics to take care of the wounded"
The two men just stood there, unable to understand what had just happened.
A few more battles took place with-in the kostra cannon, with the Visari falling to the human invaders. The cannon was under human control, and ready for the next phase of the plan.
Back on the Osiris, Xenon sat in his quarters, now dressed in his usual black trench coat, gloves, and boots. Wearing his metal mask once again. He sat pondering the days events. It had been a good day for him...
Thenos’ trap was set. There was a lethally armed line of defences now in the gravity well of Gromov, mainly on the side that the pirates would approach from, but work had started on fortifying the route to the star. Behind the beam platforms that made up this defensive line were multiple repair facilities, which would maintain the defences and all ships within range. If the pressure was too much, a damaged ship could simply retreat behind the defences, knowing that any assailants would take heavy damage trying to get past the defence platforms. Thenos had handed out his initial orders, and now the entire fleet was positioned in the centre of the defences. The marines had been prepared. The first platoon, led by Major Kolt, would deploy to the Halycon when Thenos gave the command, and take the ship. Of course, the complexity of this plan was protecting the shuttles that would transport the marines to the Halycon, but Thenos had already thought about that. Suddenly, a message came through, accompanied by a little hologram showing the enemy’s fleet composition. As Thenos had suspected, the pirates were recklessly throwing all that they had at Gromov.
Make ready everyone, said Thenos to all his commanders, and good luck.
In a sudden display of light, the pirates appeared at the edge of the gravity well. The majority of the enemy ships moved to engage Thenos, heading for Gromov. No doubt the pirate leader had already figured out that this was the battle where they either lived or died. A retreat would only lead to pursuit, and escape meant trying to fly past Gromov to reach the star. As Thenos had predicted, the Halycon stayed at the edge of the gravity well, defended by the five Cobalts that remained for the pirates. Meanwhile, the unidentified pirate capital ship and seven Kodiaks headed to a zone just out of reach of the defences. With this, the battle began, as the Halycon and the pirate capital ship released their swarms of oddly designed, barely functioning, pirate fighters and bombers. Acting on instinct, and not receiving any objections from Thenos, the Aeria Drone Hosts launched their own fighters and bombers, which moved to engage the enemy. Fighters clashed and bombers initiated evasive manoeuvres as the Advent strike craft attempted to push towards the enemy ships, while the pirates tried to free up the airspace so that they could start damaging the defences. However, when it began to look like the poorly-trained pirates were losing, the enemy capital ship made its move. It came closer, opening fire with powerful forward weaponry. Focusing on it properly for the first time, Thenos saw that it was far larger than the Revenge. He gave out orders.
Destras, move to engage the enemy cruisers and the unidentified flagship, but try not to stray to far from where the Illuminators and defences can assist you. Disciples, follow the Revenge and engage the enemy Cobalts when I say. Lastly, I want two Aeria fighter squadrons accompanying the Revenge’s own with me.
Thenos began to give orders to the bridge crew, and Daala distributed more precise instructions to the bridge crew, who sent them throughout the ship. The Revenge’s deck shook slightly as it roared into life. The Destras and Disciples started flying alongside it as the majority of the fleet began to move forwards. Disciples began to peel off, and took a longer route, flying round the enemy fleet, while the Revenge continued to build up speed. Destras began to change course in order to engage enemy Kodiaks, but the Revenge flew straight towards the enemy capital ship. Thenos knew that capital ships had difficulty turning, but were unstoppable once they reached top speed. Thenos checked with the Gunnery Officer if the port laser gunners were ready. The Revenge shot past the enemy capital ship while firing into its hull with its laser cannons. In a few seconds, the Revenge was clear of the enemy attacking force.
Congratulate the crew, Thenos told Daala, then we need to slow down if we’re going to stop at the Halycon.
Soon, the ship slowed as the Disciples rejoined it. Thenos watched as the Halycon grew larger in the view from the bridge.
Bring us alongside the capital ship, Thenos ordered Daala, then told Ryan, you are free to engage enemy frigates, but I expect you to flee if you start taking damage. We are not losing ships today.
Ryan’s frigates now moved to take on the Cobalts, while the Revenge moved so that it was parallel to the Halycon, but didn’t fire. Thenos didn’t want to damage what would soon be his property. When the moment was right, Thenos sent orders to the hangar, that the troop shuttles were to depart for the Halycon’s hangar. Thenos turned on a small radio and put in the earpiece. He tested the connection.
“Major Kolt, this is Thenos, do you read me?”
“Loud and clear, sir,” came the Major’s reply.
“Good stuff, report to me when it’s next convenient,” Thenos ordered. Marines usually stayed in contact via radio, as they focused their psychic abilities on disrupting the enemy. Those who survived a fight with Advent marines often commented on how there guns seemed to end up twitching to the side just as they fired their perfectly lined up shot. Also, the Advent always seemed to be able to counter every clever strategy and flanking manoeuvre, knowing exactly where to shift their fire. Of course, this telekinesis and mind reading didn’t always work when combined with the physical strain of battle, but it definitely enhanced the survivability of Advent marines, who lacked the heavier armour of the –UE_’s marines in their light exosuits. Seeing that the shuttles had been launched, Thenos ordered for the anima of the fighters in this section of space to escort the shuttles and pin down any enemy fighters. Meanwhile, the Revenge’s gunners opened fire on the Cobalts in the area, helping the Disciples with their targets.
We need to turn around and face back towards the main enemy fleet, Thenos ordered, it will take a while, but that enemy capital ship will eventually turn and chase us.
The Revenge began to turn, as Thenos could see from the bridge window. It looped round the Halycon, as Thenos got a report from his Destra commander.
Sir! We’ve lost a Destra!
What? Thenos exclaimed, How?
It tried to retreat, but two Kodiaks chased it through the defences. Those Kodiaks are nearly destroyed now though, so there will be only three left.
Then the crew’s sacrifice was not in vain. Perhaps move closer to the line, so that you can increase the firepower on them.
Yes sir.
Then, the radio crackled into life.
“Progress report, sir. We’ve secured the hangar. I’m leading first section to the bridge, and the sergeant will be about five minutes until he reaches the nearest weapons battery and starts to clear it out with two section. The lieutenant and three section should be a bit longer in reaching the engines.”
“You’re working very fast,” commented Thenos.
“Yeah, well these pirates are poorly trained and equipped. They go down in one shot and they can’t shoot in a straight line even without us disrupting them.”
“I see, not like back on TDN Proteus then,” said Thenos. That had been the last time he had fought with the marines, about a year ago. It had been a good fight, with Thenos’ forces outnumbered almost two to one, but they had pulled through and taken the ship. After that, though, Thenos had been told he could no longer risk being involved in ship board combat, but now… Well, perhaps he could go into battle personally again, instead of leading from a chair on the bridge. Looking forwards, Thenos saw that the pirate capital ship had turned, and was heading towards the Revenge.
Time for a little surprise, Thenos told the bridge crew, let’s initiate Cleansing Brilliance.
There was a psychic cheer from some members of the bridge crew. Daala began coordinating the efforts of the various officers, as the enemy flagship, now only accompanied by two Kodiaks, began to head towards the Revenge. The Disciples, having finished with their targets, and seeing that the guns of the Halycon had fallen silent, were now free to form up with their capital ship. Thenos received reports that all of the eleven remaining Destras were retreating to the repair stations, as they were fairly badly damaged. Thenos also ordered the Illuminators to stay back, but asked for bombers to continue harassing the enemy ships. A radio message came through.
“This is Kolt. I’m glad to say that we have the bridge sir. You were right, this armour can soak up rounds. Made taking the bridge far easier, and we didn’t take any losses.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Who’s still alive up there from the enemy?”
“The captain, and some officers. You should see the tech up here. They’ve got some kind of adapter that allows PsiTech apparatus to be controlled by non-Advent. It’s pretty- wait, an officer’s saying something, that, no! Disarm him!” the Major shouted, but a gunshot rang out through the radio. The sound of combat ensued, until a loud thud signalled that Kolt’s radio had hit the ground.
“Kolt! Are you still there?”
Sir, Daala said, we’re at optimum range for Cleansing Brilliance.
Good, good, just open fire. Give them all we’ve got.
A blinding beam of energy shot out from the front of the Revenge. It struck the enemy capital ship, burning away at its armour. As with most pirate vessels, it was unshielded, but had a strong hull.
“Major, do you read me?” tried Thenos again.
“Sorry sir, this is Corporal Deleon. The Major’s wounded quite badly sir.”
“Fatally?” asked Thenos.
“Negative, sir, we’re already giving him medical attention, bur it looks like a punctured lung. A guy on the floor, we thought he was dead, shot him through a tiny gap in the armour plates. Sorry sir, but all the bridge crew’s dead now.”
“It’s all right, none of our own marines are dead. Secure more of the ship while we finish out here.”
The pirate ship was already firing as it charged at the Revenge. The gunnery crews onboard the Advent ship opened fire with the forward mounted beam and plasma weapons, and began to make visible damage on the enemy hull, which was already damaged from the Cleansing Brilliance manoeuvre. The pirate ship moved closer, in an attempt to broadside the Revenge, so the laser weapons on the starboard side of the ship began to fire at the pirate vessel. Meanwhile the Disciples were engaging the two remaining Kodiaks, running rings around them and blowing holes in their rear armour. However, the shields of the Revenge, already damaged by the unreturned fire from the Halycon earlier, didn’t hold out long, and soon the hits from the enemy ship were impacting the hull of the Revenge. A small explosion told Thenos that a Kodiak was down, but that didn’t help the situation. Despite the support from the bombers and now the Disciples, the enemy capital ship was just too big and well armoured. It was doing better than the Revenge now, but then Thenos received a psychic message.
Thought you could do with some help sir, said the Destra Commander, so I brought the Destras and Illuminators up here to help.
The assistance is appreciated. Let’s take this monster down.
The newly arrived ships joined the fray, and poured fire into the enemy vessel, now alone. An explosion occurred in a section of the enemy ship, then another, and the ship began to move, trying to escape to the edge of the gravity well. However, the Advent ships kept firing, until a gaping hull breach occurred in the pirate battlecruiser. The ship began to contort, as the vacuum of space sucked at the ship’s innards. Explosions wracked the ship, ending with one massive, blinding explosion. As the fireball fizzled out, Thenos congratulated his fleet.
Well done, he broadcast to the minds of every crew member, we have won a great victory here. At Gromov, the Garran Collective has proved something. We are not hiding. We are not running away. From today, we stand and fight. From today, we claim our rightful place, here in Distant Stars!
Thenos received damage reports, and comments that the crews were cheering. There would be a lot to organise, such as the crew of the Halycon and the analysis of the strange pirate tech, but that could wait. Now was a time to celebrate.
(DS RP)
While the taking of the Kostura Cannon occurs, David's Lions are in transports, coming down into Portage VII's atmosphere. Fire litterd the sky as strikecraft engaged one another and fire from the ground comes and goes. One of the transports takes a shot from the ground, smoke and flames spewing from its engine shortly before an explosion blows it off course, sending it reeling towards the canopy without control. A Vasari fighter, chases another near the path of the transports, engaging in a dogfight that causes the transport pilots to sway away from the action. Inside one of the transports sits a group of marines, one of which is not secured into a seat, rather walking up and down the aisle with only a single hand steadying him against the turbulence.
"Men, we are going to be landing only one klick away from a Vasari P.O.W. camp. Our job is to secure the human population and ready the area for immediate evac. There are firendlies in the area, so we are not going in with auto-fire. Do you understand me, marines?"
"Sir, yes, sir," the group shouted back to their sergeant.
The transport shook as it broke through the canopy, the sounds of tree branches scratching at the side of the metal hull. The sergeant lifted his weapon from its resting place and cocked the bolt back, watching as the round loaded. "Let's move out, men."
The doors of the transport begin to open before they touch the ground, the marines leaping from the sides of the opening and holding their weapons ready as they check the area. The sergeant walks towards the back end of the door as it moves, his foot stepping off in perfect time with the touchdown. He taps on his wrist, activating a headset, "Men, we have thirty minutes to secure this area. Any more and these flyboys might leave, so let's not waste the trip."
The marines steadily move through the forest until they come upon the edge of a clearing where the camp is located. Due to the thick growth, they are able to hide in close proximity to the wall, easily spotting two tower guards and Vasari walking the perimeter.
"Sniper, clear that tower," the sergeant orders.
The sniper takes a moment to check his weapon before taking a prone position and acquiring one of the targets in his scope. He breathes out, pulling the trigger and watching the target tumble forward, banging its head on the rail on the way down. Moving his sight over, he sees the other Vasari take notice of the event and turn to dash for a panel on the far side of the tower. "Not today," the sniper quips before popping off another silent round, causing the second guard to fold up on the floor.
The marines wait for a moment when the guards on the ground are facing away from their position. When the time comes, they rush from cover, bringing down the guards with carefully placed shots and hoping the surrounding sounds of combat hide their presence. The marines make haste to the front gate, cutting away the guards upon their arrival. A soldier takes his place at the front of the group, assembling a small package which he places on the gate, signalling the others to back way. Seconds after the men gain distance, the package explodes, tearing a hole in the doorway. The marines wait near the corner for the smoke to clear and, when it does, use the wall for cover as they check the base. Vasari scramble about, a few firing at the unwelcomed arrivalsand more adding to the fray as they collect themselves. The fire is largely in vain as the marines are well covered, but incapable of making progress against such numbers. During the firefight, an explosion sounds on the far side of the camp, causing the collapse of a guard tower. The distraction gives the marines an opportunity to pick off a few and cause panic in a few more.
With an opening made, they enter the camp, moving in waves to provide cover for the men following behind. Vasari are picked off as they approach or stand to fight, a marine taking occassional flak, but rarely more than the plating can handle. The men steadily make their way towards a structure jutting out from the greater portion of the camp facilities. Once there, the men take up a defensive position around the door, the sergeant taking his place next to the door itself. He swings his weapon, the butt smashing into the door and causing it to fly open. As soon as it does, weapons fire emerges, causing the sergeant to jump away from the opening and clipping the arm of a marine standing too close. A medic attends to the wounded while the sergeant signals to another marine, his fingers balled up in a fist and then flying outward. The marine nods and pulls a flashbang from his belt, pulling the pin and swinging the device underhanded so that it bounces off of the door jamb and into the room. After the bang is heard, the men rush the room, finding the Vasari disoriented and stammering about. The marines force them onto the ground, kicking their weapons away.
"Secure them. We need to find the prisoners and have them out of here in ten," the sergeant says. The marines pull out small nodes from which they pull a cord, wrapping it around the Vasari's extremeties and placing the end of the cord in the opposite end of the node. The small device winds the cord up into it, tightening until it feels an appropriate amount of pressure, enough to make the Vasari wince without causing major harm. The marines finish securing the guards and file out of the barracks, the last one leaving as the building explodes. While the other marines get back to their feet and take count of their wounds, the sergeant turns his sight to the sky, spotting a Vasari strikecraft overhead.
He walk to the comm officer and pulls him to his feet, "Get on the wire and tell those men that this location is secure. We have people down here, damn it."
The officer dials up the fleet on his transmitter and follows through with the order while the sergeant regroups his men. Only a moment more passes before a blast opens a path through the camp wall, allowing a flood of Vasari to enter the camp. The Vasari and marines alike aim their weapons, each shouting in their respective languages while holding their weapons at the ready. The shouting continues for some time until one of the marines, his hands held out, steps before the sergeant.
"Sir. Sir, stop. Everyone, put your weapons down," the soldier shouts.
The two groups begin to quiet, weapons still at the ready, while the sergeant asks, "What the hell are you talking about, marine?"
"Sir, these are J'rah's men," he explains.
"And we know this because?"
"Sir, they're not dressed like the others. We heard that explosion, right? I think that was these guys. Just... just hold on." The marine steps forward, his hands held out towards the Vasari, one motioning down towards the ground. The Vasari hesitantly lower their weapons and the marines, upon sight of the Vasari doing so, lower theirs.
The sergeant says, "Well, done, marine. Now see if you can tell these guys what's going, or find anything out." As he walks away, the marine resorts to drawing in the dirt in hopes of bridging the language barrier. "Marines, scour the area and let's get the prisoners collected. Call the flyboys and tell them to get their asses here ASAP."
With that, one of several marine groups across the planet begin the evacuation of humans from the green marble of Portage VII.
(Personal / DS) Back at the Finley system star, Roesh calls up Tim. "We may have a little problem I want you to go check out." "What's that?" Tim asks. "Daros is a little light on ships. Take a couple caps and one of the frigate groups over to Rebirth and just hang out until their fleet returns." "Not a problem, what should I tell the locals?" "Doesn't matter. They should know we protect our trade routes." "Okay. I'm already on the Contender, so I'll take the Affliction with me and head on over right away." "Press them for a little information on what they have planned for future defenses and fleet expansion. Don't get agressive or anything, but try to get something." "You got it, we're off like a prom dress." Tim says without even cracking a smile which makes everyone on the command deck of the trade ship laugh. Roesh just shakes his head, cuts the comm, and lets the trade ship jump out of the star's gravity well. When he arrives at the trade port, he thanks the captain for letting him tag along and heads for a communication terminal so he can have a chat with Henry. "You know, in addition to the Argonevs, we should put up some defenses around the system." "Todd sent me the go ahead to install new hanger bay and gauss platforms. He tested weapon upgrades on both and is happy with the results, we've just been waiting so we could divert resources elsewhere to improve the system." "Yeah, let's not divert anymore, we need to put in hard point defenses to free up our current fleet, and get busy figuring out what we need to expand it." "Expanding our fleet capacity shouldn't be an issue. Unlike in Trader Space, we own the planets, not just the strutures in orbit. We do have the capabilities to mass produce, rather then just trade for parts." "I figured as much, so push enginerring to finish up on the planetary stuff so we can fully exploit the system and then swich over most of what we have to upgrades for our defense and fleet." "Why the sudden concern about weaponizing, Roesh?" "Daros is empty, so that would mean they're out somewhere with their whole fleet, however big or small it is. So that means right now we may be defending two systems and we're under supplied." "Our forces do have a lot of experience though." "They do, of course, but we don't know how much fighting has been going on out here. Others may have the same experience as us, dare I say it, maybe even more." "And they could have a lot less." "Yes... They could Henry, but you know me, plan for the worst, hope for the best." "That I do, my friend. Okay, I've actually put down some basic designs on paper for what I want out of defense already. Since I've wanted the starbases for a few days now, and you're being paranoid, I'll get them up and running ASAP." "Thank you. When Tim get's back, I'll have him figure out what he wants and we'll work on some cruisers and maybe some more cap ships for him to play with." "I'll Inform Molly and Riona to start up some ad campaigns systemwide to generate interest in joining the fleet. I'll oversee the training of potential officers myself until Tim can commit to it full time, or until we get a military academy up and running." "Outstanding. I'm going to take Todd and Casey with me and a small group of soldiers and we're going to go make a training video." "Gerrard?" "Hey, why not. It'll be fun. The kids need a break. Casey already snapped once." "I'm sure their divisions have enough work to keep them busy enough. Have fun." "Thanks Henry." Henry nods and cuts the comm. Roesh heads over to Finley 2 to collect Todd and then to the Asteroid McDermott to collect Casey. Meanwhile, Tim and his fleet have jumped into the Daros system and are just entering the gravity well for Rebirth, when they recieve a hail from the planet. "This is Teldin of the Garros Collective, how can we help the Free Traders today?" "Mr. Teldin, I'm Admiral Hodgkins. We're just here because our trade ship reported back that your fleet wasn't in the system. Of course, their scanners aren't very good, so we came here to verify." "Of course. Our fleet is lending assistance to another colony at the moment." "Understood, with your permission, we'd like to take up position in high orbit until they return." Teldin searches his thoughts for a second, "Ah, yes. Thenos did leave notice that you personally told him that you protect your trade routes. Good to know there's still some honor out there in the stars, but permission isn't mine to give. I'll send a memo to the council." "You sound like you've seen your fair share of action." "Indeed, but I am retired from duty and give my skills up for the good of the people." Tim nods in appearent respect, "Good to see there's still honor down below on the planets." Teldin smiles, "Thenos should be returning soon, I'm sure he'll appreciate the gesture and the inititive you have taken to strengthen our defenses during his leave." "From one military man to another, always happy to help an ally." Teldin, just now taking the time to look at Tim's shoulderboards and seeing that they're double barred with a star over a crescent moon, signifying that he's one of the most experienced commanders out there, "I believe we both have lots of stories to share." "No time like the present, since I'm not going anywhere." Tim says. "Let me switch this channel over to the conference room and we can kill some time." Teldin nods and waits for Tim. At the Finley star, Roesh has collected Todd and Casey, boarded a newly created Kodiak, and set course for the Mercevica Nebula, where he's heard rumors of fluctuating pirate activity. when they arrive they actively scan as much of the system that they can searching for any energy readings they can find. Getting a lot of interference from the stars nearby, they still manage to pinpoint one energy reading that isn't a natural occurance. They decide to go and check it out.
The room was a disaster. Cables, wires, prompts and other miscellanious electronics were scattered like a massive old cobweb. Lord Ryat stood in its middle facing the four holoprojections of Alexander, J'rah, Xenon, and Carbon. Phoenix took severe damage during the battle, in fact most of the Kols took severe damage. Vasari missiles had a strong tendency to skip the shields and impact onto the armour. Only a combination of new armour, adaptive force field and the hard working Hoshikos allowed the Kol line, along with Phoenix, to surive the brunt of the attack. The damage was still being worked on, as evidence of the status of his current office/flag bridge. "Well gentlemen," he said, "I must say, a superb job. Considering we had little work up time for that, things went well overall. On a downside, my fleet, especially my Kols, are pretty beat up. Until some repair bays are built, we have ot make do with field repairs." As if on command, the holoprojections went offline for a second then came back on. When it all came back online they all had a good laugh. "How are things planetside?" Lord Ryat asked. "Excellent," began Lord J'rah, "Our troops have almost completely secured the planet due to the help of the Lions. They have fought with both honor and bravery. We appreciate their help." "Thank you J'rah," Alexander said slowly, "as for our end, I must say we are taking in a lot of humans from this planet. Where are we going to put them all? My ships are getting filled to the brim." "I could donate the use of my Akkans and Dunovs," Carbon said, "but Alexander is right. We need a planet to put these refugees on before we can move on." "Agreed," Lord Ryat said, "I'll send my Akkans and Dunovs as well. They didn't get much damage and aren't needed for the repair work." "If I may make a suggestion," Lord J'rah said, "There is a terran-like planet called Portage IV that we could use to put them there." "That would work," Xenon said, "There is not much of an enemy presence there. It would fall quickly." Ryat studied Xenon carefully. He seemed a lot calmer now. Ryat had heard that he had personally lead the battle to take over the Kostura Cannon and had gone on a rampage. Ryat still could see a bit of anger lurking under that red eye. "I also need a staging area for my ships and crew," Admiral Alexander said, "that planet sounds ideal for that." "You mind taking over that planet?" Lord Ryat asked, "I'm afraid that my fleet is down at the moment, Carbon's is needed here to protect this gravwell, J'rah and Xenon are going to be busy working with the Kostura Cannon and the White Impulse." "That shouldn't be an issue," Alexander said, "Just need to round up my men and we should be off."
Captain K’rath of the Kris Slavers stood in the bridge of his Skarovas Enforcer. His vessel, along with two others of its type, was acting as a rearguard for the main fleet, which had gone to crush the humans attacking the Slavers’ Kostura Cannon. It was not in the interests of the Kris to be attacked from behind without any warning. Suddenly, with a flash of blue light, a Kol battleship appeared at the edge of the gravity well. K’rath had no intention of martyring himself for his people, so he ordered all ships to turn and jump to the rally point. As his ship turned, K’rath ordered for the ship to be identified.
“It appears to be called the Charybdis, captain. It appears to belong to the –UE_,” said the officer tasked with the identification job.
“Interesting,” replied K’rath, “but strange. It has no support ships, but it is no doubt here to-”
The ship rocked as a tremendous force struck it.
“They’ve fired a heavy gauss weapon sir! I’m getting reports, and it sounds like our engines were blown apart,” another officer informed the captain.
“Will we still be able to escape?” asked K’rath.
“Probably not. It is nearly in range for us to fight back though.”
The captain sighed, “Then it is better to take a stand than be captured by these apes. Tell the other ships to go on and escape. We will hold the enemy here.”
Damn the humans. Why did they always have to perform underhanded tricks, instead of fighting with honour? K’rath’s ship turned to face the oncoming enemy ship, and opened fire with its plasma wave cannons. However, the Kol didn’t shoot back, but kept advancing. As it came closer, K’rath saw that the surface of the enemy ship was moving, shifting underneath the shield that was soaking up the Enforcer’s weapons fire. The Kol came so close that it was almost touching the Vasari ship, and K’rath saw that there was indeed movement on the ship’s hull. There were countless strange, metallic, spider-like… things crawling across the vessel. Suddenly, all of these mysterious beings on the side facing the Enforcer detached from their host, activating small jets on their legs, and went translucent, phasing through the shield of both the Kol and the Enforcer with what must have been stolen phase technology. The captain broadcast a message through the ship.
“All personnel, prepare to repel boarders,” he ordered. Was this some new human weapon? All of a sudden, K’rath heard a metallic tapping. Looking to the windows of the bridge, K’rath saw that they were swarming with the robotic spiders. They had four legs, and bodies the size of a human torso. As one, they all extended buzz-saws from their undersides, and began to cut at the window. As one Vasari, the bridge crew raced for the exit, with no doubts as to the robots’ intentions. However, it was too late. The combined efforts of the robots made cracks in the glass, and the windows exploded outwards, the vacuum of space eager to claim the air inside the ship.
It did not take long for the robots to reduce the Vasari ship into chunks the size of their own bodies. However, they left the reactor core and antimatter generator intact, a large swarm of the spider robots manoeuvring them towards the Kol’s expanded hangar bay. The remaining wreckage and scrap was all gathered and taken to the hangars, leaving only bodies, drifting through space, and a lone Kol battleship which activated its phase drive, and left.
In the pitch black corridors of the Charybdis, there was no sound but the tapping of metal feet, and the distant echoes of the machinery at work in the sections of the ship converted to process the material salvaged from enemy vessels. Robots needed neither speech nor light, communicating with binary signals, having the corridors of the ship memorised in their perfect memories, and being able to see in any section of the electromagnetic spectrum at will. Even the bridge, the hub of any ship, was bathed in silence, with only the occasional bleep of a control panel giving any indication that the ship was anything more than a drifting hulk. In its own silent empire of machines, Experimental Tactical Cyborg Beta, codenamed Scylla, sat in the command chair in a state of standby, defragmenting its memory. It had been a marine once, under the command of what was now its target. Scylla knew that ETC Delta was close, but it had seen the scans of the system. The other cyborg was in the presence of a large fleet, and Scylla only had the Charybdis. Scylla found the word “cyborg” in the name of the project that had created it somewhat strange. The only organic part of it was the brain, salvaged from its previous body, and only then because of the marine’s knowledge inside it. Scylla still treated its brain as a computer, as it made much more sense that way. Neural pathways could be deleted and reconfigured just like computer code. Scylla had initially despised its new body, to the point that when it had first seen what life after death had made it, it had tried to scream, before realising that it didn’t have a mouth. It had been analysed, tested on, and eventually deemed unstable. From its design, Gamma had been made, and was successful before it self-terminated. Then came Delta, an intelligence officer with much living tissue surviving. He had become the culmination of the ETC project, being a human on the inside, but with metal replacement parts on the outside where his flesh had been burned away in a battle. This “successful” cyborg had departed to become a paragorn in the –UE_ fleet. Meanwhile, Scylla had learned to control its new body. It had discovered that a metal body was far superior to one of flesh and bone, as it burst from the containment cell, soaked up bullets from the guards without any pain, gutted them with the blades that sprang from its forearms, and snuck aboard the Kol that was now its home. After it had been found, it realised how useful it was to have hands which never shook or twitched, as it made the first of the robots that would replace the slaughtered crew of the ship that Scylla would call Charybdis. Scylla still had the bloodstains of those victims spattered across its dark grey, heavily armoured body. Its colourscheme was now a grim grey with patches and streaks of dark red from those it had butchered.
And so Scylla, mockery of the man that it once was, schemed, plotting how to end the cyborg paragorn and prove its superiority to the businessmen that had commissioned the ETC project that had created it. Unstable, they had labelled Scylla, while Delta went and became a paragorn. Charybdis and Scylla. Together, like the twin whirlpools of myth, they would strike terror into the hearts of mortals, claiming their ships for their own use. Suddenly, Scylla received a binary message from a robot in the processing section of the ship, requesting that Scylla bring all systems online and come and advise on an important matter. Scylla complied, its head shifting from where it had been resting on the chair’s headrest. To those who didn’t know its true nature, Scylla appeared to be a human in heavy, sealed power armour. The reason for the shape and size was so that the human brain in Scylla’s head could control a body structure that it was used to. Scylla’s head looked around the bridge, the tinted black slit that looked like a helmet’s visor, but was in fact Scylla’s visual array, checking on all electromagnetic frequencies for anything out of the ordinary. Deeming the bridge secure, Scylla went to find its awakener.
Alexander cuts the comm link with Ryat, flipping off the receiver embedded in the arm of his chair and reaching forward to switch off a small camera propped up before him. His vessel was never equipped for visual communication, but Ryat equipped him with a means for others to see him, although Alexander never bothered with the software updates necessary to receive the visuals.
Alexander looks to the comm officer at his left, "Lieutenant, have all Kols join our position at the edge of the grav well." He turns his head to the right, "Lieutenant Commander, have all batteries ready to engage the enemy on the other side. I want tactical alertness at its highest."
Affirmations come from both directions as the ten Kols break from their previous assignments. When the last of the vessels form up alongside the David, the group create sparkling breaks in space, soon vanishing into phase space. A short moment later they emerge before a terran planet, stiples of green, brown and blue decorating its surface. In high orbit sit three Lasurak Transporters, five Skarovas Enforcers, two Junsurak Sentinels and a Antorak Marauder leading the lot.
Lieutenant Commander Frishman begins, "Launching fighters."
"Belay that order," Alexander says, "Keep all strikecraft grounded and engage the Marauder with all rail guns."
"Yes, sir," Frishman replies as he inputs the commands, transmitting them in real-time to the other vessels. The Kols angle in towards the Marauder, ignoring the Vasari strikecraft, a combination of bombers and fighters, in favor of the larger target. Before the Marauder gets a shot off, the ten Kols fire their railguns, causing the vessel to fall into a drift with its angle distorted by the force of the weapons. The frigates and cruisers break from the Marauder's position, engaging the Lions with direct force.
"Have all units focus on the Sentinels," Alexander orders.
The Kols focus their fire, cutting through the two vessels in less than a minute with their beams while their other weapons harass targets of opportunity. The Transporters begin to rear away from the situation, their fighters still engaging the shields of the Kol battle group.
Sighting the shift, Senior Captain Aronoff of the DLS Adam orders commands, "Red Fleet, engage the Transporters."
Five of the Kols break from the wall to pursue their targets. Frishman takes note of the move and alerts, "Sir, Red Fleet is moving to intercept the Transporters."
Alexander nods, "Very well, let them. Engage the Enforcers, coordinating fire with the other vessels."
Aronoff's group passes the Marauder, their cannons firing at the adrift vessel as they pass, causing it to break up in small places. The stress of damage overcomes the vessel as the Kols pass, causing it to break up in their wake. The Transporters round the planet, taking position close to a cluster of missile platforms which surround a repair facility. Captain Aronoff considers the damage that the phase missiles may cause, but soon motions for his men to continue the assault unabated. The phase missiles launch into space, a dark trail following behind them. The first wave is met with mixed results, about a third of the projectiles passing through the shields and causing damage to the armor plating.
Aronoff's tactical officer informs him, "Sir, their missiles are succeeding in penetrating our screens. Only armor damage thus far."
"Very well," Aranoff replies, "let's test their armor research. Weapons free."
The Kols engage at will, their fire littering space with light and shards of hot metal. The Tranporters which slowed to take cover with the platforms soon realized their mistake as autcannon rounds passed between the platforms to rip at their shields. The platforms themselves resisted very little of the fire, only launching around two more volleys before they collpase under the weight of the weapons fire. In the time it takes for the weapons platforms to fall, the Enforcers are dispatched and the other five Kols approach the planet.
Alexander asks, "What do we have in orbit?"
"Aronoff's forces have supressed the missile platforms, leaving logistical structures only," tactical replies.
"Excellent, what do we have on the ground?"
"Military outposts and minor civilian populations, sir. The Vasari really do prefer warm planets."
"Then let's turn up the thermostat," Alexander quips. "Begin orbital bombardment and call in the other Lions. I want a preliminary settlement up within the day and civilians moved as soon as possible."
"Sir, this system is going to be filled with J'rah's men" Frishman points out, "Are we going to trust having him surround all these civilians?"
Alexander rises from his seat, shaking his head, "No, once we know Eras VII can accomodate the new populace, we'll move the civilians there. In the meantime, they need a place to live and we need a refeuling station."
"That's another matter, sir," Frishman continues. "If J'rah's men take Portage II, they have control over the star. If they have control of Portage VII, they have control of the phase gate. Our supply line is at their mercy. We can't stay here under those conditions."
"Understood," Alexander replies. "I'm hoping its temporary, but it's all we have at the moment. We'll have to trust Lord Arnoldt to keep his allies in line. In the meantime, contact Green Fleet when they arrive and have them make contact with the Roesh Free Traders. Senior Captain Siegel will have to negotiate the terms for us."
The bombardment commences while the rest of the Lions enter the gravity well. As soon as conditions allow, the support vessels begin arranging settlement construction and civilian allocation.
Meanwhile, Green Fleet arrives in the Eras system, receiving orders from Blue Fleet. Captain Siegel commands the small fleet to proceed to Eras VII and hold position in high orbit while sending a general communication to the Roesh Free Traders, requesting an opportunity to meet and discuss the terms of a potential business deal.
