Hey everybody,
some of my friends just made an own version of a map on Cataract.
After they finished their work and we tested it, we decided to share this new map, so I uploaded the map.
A pic of the map:
As you can see, the portals in the edges are owned by the other team, and towers were added around. The citadel now is more in the middle of the map, so you can attack it from behind, too.
The creeps will try to break through the wall of towers. As they do so, they will walk across their own citadell, and then on the usual way of the other creeps. In doing this, they are able to protect the citadell of enemies.
The portals at the edges cant be capped, but there are two new portals, which are directly at the citadell. They will act as usual creeps will do on Cataract.
The paths of the creeps to the citadell are made in a way the Torch Bearer cant farm them alone if they are directly at the enemy citadell.

if you enable the mod, you will get the new version

Interesting map. I noticed some serious isues with the map in general.
1) It is easy to attack towers on your side releasing the other 4 portal. The proximity of the towers to the health crystal make this too easy, especially for reg.
2) Health crystal is to close to the front line. Can make games take for ever. Try pushing it back some.
3) Citadel sits quite close to the front line making the towers next to it less useful, maybe swap it's position with the forts.
4) Forts currently rip open the extra four portals, this is good and bad, other than that though, they are useless.
5) It is easy to port into you towers by the enemy back portals making it super easy to farm the double creep wave by just being in proximity to their death. Anyone attempting to stop you will have to deal with the towers, making them dead meat. Consider putting "evil" (opposing force) towers in the center to prevent proximity farm. I was able to level with each wave so I doubled everone else's leveling.
I agree with Trigeminal.
1. Crystal needs to be pushed back, maybe right behind the gold mines and fort in the far back.
2. Citadel needs to be swapped with the fort near the shop.
3. The towers near the four portals needs to be reworked to prevent double farming.
But it is a pretty nice map, I like it.

I think this one is a bit flawed though :/ Do you think a 2 lane version of cataract with a single bridge connecting the two lanes horizontally in the centre would work well? A sort of 2v2 version of the cataract map maybe? Just an idea
I played several more games in this map, and I gotta say that I like it more and more. I think this is definitely a 4v4 version of cataract. Games are longer than the usual and gives opportunities to invest in a LOT of strategies and citadel upgrades, which why I like it.
As I mentioned before, a few things need to be changed to make it better such as the position of the citadel and crystal, as well as the double farming issue with the 4 portals. I hope that you will keep on improving this map, it has a lot of potential imho.
Yeah this seems like a real change from other maps. Balance issues aside I like how you made the map less Forces of light against forces of darkness into a more chaotic map.
Does this replace the current Cataract? If not, how did you get a new map in?

Hey everybody..
I've read all ur comments and thank you for giving us some hints to improve our map.
1) The idea to put the health crystal at another point is, i think, a little problem, cause on the one hand, it should not be such near at the towers at the portals, and on the other hand, it should not be such near at the fight, so you can escape very easily.
2) I think we will change the position of the citadel with the position of the front fort, because, as u all said, it is to near in the middel and in the fight.
3) A very important point, u mentioned, is, that u can farm the creeps, protected from ur own towers. There i think it was the best idea, to put some towers in front of the own portals, so they can stop enemy heros from farming creep waves.
4) @Trigeminal: the idea of the forts was, to protect the goldmine flag from being capped by the enemies. If there would be no protection, the opposing demigods might teleport to the towers at ur portals, and cap the goldmine flag... So we wanted to prevent this easy capping there.
5) @Shred_Demon: We will try to bring ur idea into another map, but it could take some time to create a new map. But we will do our best.
6) @Thanatosesc: This map does replace the current Cataract map as a mod, but we try to implentate it as an own map, but our recent tries leaded us to the crash of Demigod...

This is AWESOME! So... even though this does replace cataract, that means that we (as a community) could put any map (including mrappard's beach) over one of the lesser used maps. Maybe all you map modding people with killer skill can get together and decide which map you're going to replace (maybe Brothers since no one really does 5v5 anyway due to netcode) and the mods can always replace that one?
What do you guys think?
This thread is one of the most exciting threads I've seen in a long time. I can't tell you how dissapointing it was to read mrappard's thread that basically said he was dropping his map modding for the time being...

One other thing. I haven't played it yet so please keep that in mind when I say this but, how hard would it be to extend the lanes? Maybe make it a little longer? I'm hoping you can just repeat part of the 3d model, but I really have no idea how hard that would be... might just make a more interesting battlefield.Cheers,Than.
Unfortantly no it's more complicated then that. Getting the Scmap files and Gr2 file to load is a bit more of a pain.

What about that little square right behind the gold mines ?? I think it's far from tower (at least more than it is now), and pretty FAR from the middle ?
@Spooly_ ahhh. I get it. That's too bad, I was really excited there for a bit. This is still nice, but new maps would be nicer (beggars can't be choosers). Is it possible to modify the scripts to have it generate 'longer' lanes to extend the map?

No. Scipt can only change position of things on the map (cit, towers, crystals, port), it can't change the underlying map itself, which is a massive 3dmax obbject.

Regarding the health crystal that should always be next to the shop, otherwise it is annoying.

we have changed the map a little bit, so some of your suggestion are integrated now.
We have put the health crystal on the little square right behind the goldmines, that was a very good idea.
Furthermore we have prevented the double farming of the creeps by setting much more towers. That was the only way we've seen to prevent this double farming. If you have a better idea, just tell us!
Some of you suggested to put the citadel more in the back, so it is not such near in the fight. We have tried it, but if we do this, the torch bearer is tooooo good! He would kill in the end 6 creep waves with one spell, that would be too extrem. So we decided not to move the citadel back.
We will upload the new version soon! Please tell us then, if it is better this way, or what we can still improve.
