--> Note that it's possible that you could make a "generic" small starbase that totally changes meshes when you upgrade it. Each of the vanilla stations have something like 9 unique meshes with minor differences for weapons and trade upgrades. We recently discovered this when troubleshooting why the Fed mushroom station was sometimes replaced with an Advent station - turns out one of those 9 models was still set to the generic Advent. However, those meshes can be totally different. So if you wanted to be REALLY creative, have the "base" Dominion space station look like, say, the core of DS9 (the center and inner ring), have the trade upgrades give you the "full" DS9 look, and if you instead build up the weapons/defenses you could have the "core" station go INSIDE of a massive Dominion starbase that may look nothing like the Cardassian part. That's probably a lot of work to make multiple meshes, but it would be pretty frickin cool.
@ Mystic Angel - Note that if the stations (as trade structures) start bogging down individual gamers' machines, we may be able to buy a lot of performance having people set their planet structure meshes down. Not sure whether the Starbases count as ships or orbital structures for the graphic settings, but the other structures at least won't get in the way.
Admiral, I like the idea of the upgrading stations. Though if you do that to the dominion you'd probably want to do it to the other races (like the starbases progressed slightly from TOS to TNG). Ofcourse, that's an awful lot more work. It'd be nice eye-candy though .

Is there any chance we'll be seeing any of those lovely new sto ships in the mod? Stress probably hates them all as they aren't 100 years old but he's on leave at the mo, so now is the time to sneak them in. Nuke the Miranda, constellation & Kirk's booty mobile, vive la revolution!!!!
Only Joking, all of your hard work, effort and artistic vision is greatly appreciated. i bought Sins just for this mod and probably shouldn't say this but you/your team have made me miss quite a few deadlines at work. Ironclad should be giving you guys royalties.
Keep up the good work & also a special thanks to Stress for keeping with it, especially when it would have been much easier (and probably more sensible) to just quit working on the mod completely.
I don't want to speak for the development team since I'm just helping with the beta at the moment, but I'm pretty sure there are no plans to add those ships for the following reasons:
1--> The mod already has enough Federation ships to put one in each slot w/o pulling from the STO ships. Adding more would probably screw up the AI. BTW - the work the development team has done with roletypes is amazing. In fact, the AI plays the mod about as well as it plays the generic Sins. In other words, single-player is a challanging experience and you won't be starting out on the "unfair" setting unless your name is STARTREKKER.
2--> That would require a lot more modeling work, and right now the modelers have their hands full getting the remaining ships in place (I think only one more Fed ship is left, a few Klingon, and a few other models around the edges, but that's still not a simple task).
3--> There aren't any good, reliable pictures of most of the STO ships, and won't be until the game goes live in a month or two. Hopefully, the mod will release before then with the Fed starship lineup in it's final format (i.e., won't need updated with future patches/fixes).
4--> Note that the mod takes place in a "non-cannonical" universe before the time STO is set, thus it wouldn't make a lot of sense to go including a bunch of them.

2. Agreed. We will be finishing up with the models we have for the open slots first. Once completed who ones!!1
3. Exactly , future patchs wont break the models , but diplomacy will open up another slot !!
4. Resistance is futile , we may be non cannon is some respects but we are trying to be the most cannon we can be in soase.

I uploaded what remained of the UI work i was doing in my sync folder. It should be pretty self explanatory from the PSD's. I attempted to imporove the icons to make them more visable so you will be able to tell what ship is what. Over the updates the original icon texture suffered the same corruption that some of the ship textures suffered (good thing i had backups). Unfortunetly i didnt have backups of the mods original UI textures. So i started re-doing them from scratch. If you look at the PSD layers you will see how i was doing it. All icons and ship pictures are made from a top down, or perspective render of a model in the mod. So they should look exactly like the in game model. Because it is the same mesh i used. If you have questions about it pm me.
As far as models themselves i think you guys got that covered judging from Eomegas work. Where the hell have you been all this time BTW? didnt you have a trek mod of your own at one point in time here? We could have used that modeling talant years ago.
I have a cardassian orbital weapon platform, Danube, and Nova model if you need it. I just havent had any time to convert/Re-UVmap them yet.
I will slit my wrist if i see any ST:Online ship in here. Shimmer, and a few other digital underground dudes are in the ST:O beta. I am hearing good things about it, but they kept the retarded ship designs. I want the non-canon in this mod to at least make some sense, and sort of fit in with the canon. The Kron model fits in. Most of the FASA, and SFB stuff fits in. The retarded hybrid JJ-prise with TMP nacelles ST:O uses does NOT. Another thing you need to consider is we had to get permissions, and/or blanket permission to use the models we did not make ourselves for this mod. All the 3rd party work is credited to its original authors as a condition. If we started adding ST:O stuff we are opening pandoras box when it comes to copyrights. Then comes the cease and desist letters, and threats of lawsuits. Even if we modeled the work ourselves we could still receive a C&D, because we used Atari/Cryptics IP. I know you guys dont want that.
I know it will be almost impossible to please everyone as far as the non canon is concerned. Which is why we are leaving the mod "open". As in leaving all the files in text so that if there is something you do not like then you can add/change it yourself. All we ask is that you keep your model, and stat changes for your own personal use. Unless it is a bug fix. Then by all means send it to us. You will get the credit for your work.
There isnt one single "new" federation design in ST:O that makes any sense. They added a rollbar to the sov, and called it a new class of ship. They bolted on TMP nacelles to the JJ-prise. At least they call it a constitution. The new fed frigate model is just plain ugly to the eyes of this beholder. I am sure most of the younger generation will think otherwise. That is ok. To each their own. That is what opinions are for The plus is that i hear the gameplay of ST:O is VERY good. I cant afford to pre-order it so i wont be able to see for myself for a while.

I have my Stargate mod that I am currently working on, along with helping the team out here with some designs. I have one Im working on for the Klingon's, dont want to show her off till she is done. But since we are uping the Kron to Cap status, I decided to create a ship to fill her roll as anti-module. If you upload the weapons platform, Danube, and Nova to the Models Sync, I will take a look at getting them ready for ingame, if you would like.

Just a quick question for those who have played this mod more than I...
Is it me, or do the scouts need a significant speed boost. My scouts are dying 2 to 3 grav wells away from where I send them out from. I find that just about everything can keep up with them. I'm not the best player, but am I supposed to micro them? I normally just set them to auto and let them go unless I need something checked out.

All you guys are really making me want STO. I was planning on getting it, but it'd be a a big gamble to hope it would run on my laptop, which is all I have until I'm not for. I was so looking forward to it too!

The upcoming release gives the scouts better survivability via a little more speed. They are pretty similar in duration (number of systems they can explore before dying) to those in the vanilla Sins now.
Also, good to see that Stress agrees with me on the STO models. If he had waxed poetic about how we needed to add a JJPrise I would have to conclude he had gone positively mad . I was also concerned about the legal implications, but not being a lawyer (I'm an engineer for heaven's sake!), I didn't want to guess.
I agree that the scouts needed a speed boost despite what the stat formula says about them. They are too weak in shields and armor to be combat ships, and they cant stand up to most line frigates. That is by design, because the scout role is recon not combat. Which ships like the constitution, rommie science vessel, hideki, and d-4 are perfectly suited to. Shimmer did the primary stats for the ships, and IMO the scouts are way too slow, and die way to fast. Speed is supposed to be their advantage. You may also want to change it so that auto attack is off on the scouts. it was on mainly to see how ineffective they are in combat. The constitution despite being squishy is the most heavily armed of the scout roletypes. Yet she still cant stand against a ktinga of the TNG era. While the miranda is an even match, or better because she has slightly more firepower.
The JJprise is another timeline. Refit or not. This is in the prime timeline unaltered by the events of trek XI, because Trek XI is being ignored as if it doesnt exist. I said before if we accepted Trek XI as canon and allowed its influence in the mod then EVERYTHING would have to change. Trek XI just complicates things way too much. I liked the movie, but i cant accept it as canon if we want to keep the prime universe as we knew it intact. Lets keep Trek XI in its own pocket timeline, and pretend that the "galaxy spanning supernova" that wiped out romulus never happened.
Or, alternatively, said "Galaxy Spanning Supernova" is the root cause of the war, ala STO.
If one of the major governments looks like it's going to tople, one that has had a rough history with the klingons no less, then somebody's going to move in on them. A few universal translator 'malfunctions' and you've got Galaxy War II on your hands.
Stress, you know I've been following this Mod since you started... and I have to add my 2 cents again and say Screw Trek XI & Screw Canon!!!!
You guys have done such an awesome job, and right now this had to be one of the best mods...hell, games out there.
What you have done here is better than a lot of games bought straight off the shelf, and I'm tickled pink with the way it is now. So I have to say I'm getting sick and friggen tired reading all you people nit-picking this to death... Oh, this should be a bit faster, that isn't quite right...
KNOCK IT OFF!!!! Without changing one thing it's still more accurate than almost any other game out there.
But you people need to leave these guys alone and let them finish the thing first.... especially Stress...
Then if it isn't Caanon enough you can tweak your own copies later if you want.

My intention was not to nit-pick, I was simply asking a very basic question. I was just wondering if maybe I was utilizing the scout wrong, or perhaps it was something that needs adjusting. I wasn't griping about anything. As far as canon goes, Stress once said he was going to make the mod how he wants it to be... that is how mods should be, afterall, you cannot please everyone all the time.
I have adjusted all scouts speeds to make them more manuevarable and faster. Please report back.

I dont think he was nit picking about the scouts at all. He broght up a very good point that all of us on the team have questioned. If he was nit picking, or ranting believe me i would have called him on it.
The stat formula that Shimmer made up called for the scouts stats to be as they are right now. Shimmers formulas worked very well for the rest of the ships, but for the scout role it comes up a little short, because of the lack of speed. Hence dead scouts 2 jumps out. I would have went on a rant if he said "the constitution is the wrong color, or is i millimeter out of proportion", or "waaaaah! i want my prometheus!", or put this ridiculous ship in the mod, but he didnt. He is an example of what we expect to hear from the users. Which is constructive feedback. Not outragious demands.
My role in the mod right now is pretty much down to consultant due to my current situation. I have no time to work on anything at the moment so i am not worried if someone says somethings is off about the mod. The rest of the team knows what i expect, and i trust them to treat the mod as if it was me working on it. "What would the Major do?", and if that doesnt work.. What would Matt Jefferies, or Gene Roddenbury do? NOT what would JJ abrams, or the Killer B's do.
