It would seem odd for Species 8472 to be wiped out altogether when they had so much advanced biology able to withstand the Borg + the bargain with Voyager which gave them knowledge to anything the Borg had against them.
Is it not all too possible that Species 8472 are holding their own in fluidic space and just staying out the way, winning some and losing some, especially if the Borg are turning their attention to the Alpha quadrant rather than fluidic space, as like everything in Voyager, their efficacy against the Borg seems to come and go.
Can you tell I like the non-nerfed 8472?
(Not that it matters in the scope of the mod, nor Stress' cool backstory work, but...)
I also love the idea that 8472 are still kicking, whether they retreated back to fluidic space or whatnot. I was fascinated with them. It was one of those "Borg as unstoppable force; 8472 as immovable object" sorts of things. I didn't even need a "resolution", just their existence was fodder for any number of imaginative events. It's unfortunate that they are the main enemy in STO Takes a lot of the mystery/dread away.
And I also hated the Queen aspect of the Borg. Ugh! Locutus was a unique approach for them, not business as usual...idiots.
A shapshifting Borg drone... wow! Sort of reminds me of a liquid metal Terminator... what was that?? a T-1000???
I think realistically in terms of the Mod there just isn't enough info about Species 8472 to make them playable. But I remember somewhere on here kicking around the idea of bringing them later, after the mod is finished, and using them and a few other races to replace some of the planatary militia. Some of the other races: Tholians, Orion Syndicate, Tellerites... I probably spelled them wrong... Vulcans!!! There just isn't enough info on all of their ships to make a good playable race... but we've seen a few, so maybe they could be used later to replace the Cardassian militia ships. And I still love the idea of maybe someday down the road jumping into what I think is an empty asteroid belt and finding a doomsday machine looking back at me...

To kill time till release I've started cutting ships out of the Screenshots they've shown to make avatars out of them. I have an akira, an ambassador, an excelsior, a saber (kinda bad, edited the textured saber onto a sample of blue backround taken from Akira picture, but it's under 100 X 100 pixels now so it's hard to tell) and a Galaxy (not good at all, even though all I did was cut out the backround and shrink the picture down).
All the storyline based hype and the upgrade to red alert have made me froth at the mouth!

I just tried out this mod for the first time today, and so far I'm really impressed with the proggress.The models are great, weapons are awesome, and much more.
However the ships are petty weak for the most part with many capitals not being much more powerful than a heavy cruiser in many ways. Also capitals are not distinguishly larger than than most frigates and Cruisers. Ships also go "pop" very shortly after shields go down and shields aren't very powerful either.
Also, fleet supply is rediculous. 2 frigs/ cruuiser and a cap for an entire fleet supply research?? Unbelievable.
While I really this mod, there are many things that do need to be improved upon. I just thought I would make my comments.

Ok thanks for your imput. But You must be refering to a prior release of Soa2 . Probably more than likely "Soa2OS" which is for Vanilla sins. Which by comparision is outdated antiquted and ANCIENT . The current build of the mod more resembles the star trek universe we invision. With that being said , the sizes of the ships are to scale. !!! We cant make the ships bigger cause we wanna. Gene wouldnt be happy !!!! Then the gremlins would come a knocking. The OS release was meant to be a quickfix for your trek needs in sins. Nothing more than that , not a completed product . Just a clone of sins and some adjustments. We are working on a total conversion that is a wip . Please educate yourself about the progress of the mod before commenting on a product we dont even support. We even have a debug page. Bet you didnt even check that out did you?????

Nothing personal to the 8472 lovers, but i absolutely hated them. They are one of the reasons the borg became so idiotic in voyager. Lets see i guess since the killer b's made the borg boring in voyager lets make another uber spiecies, and have one "little" light cruiser be able to take on the entire race. It was almost as if voyager was more powerful than the borg. If i had my way voyager would have been assimilated, and janeway spaced for being useless....end of show Yes i hate voyager, and enterprise. So sue me.
Maybe 8472 is extinct, Maybe the borg have adapted to them, and 8472 are in hiding. Who knows. I do know they will NOT be in this mod. We got one uber faction that should be enough.. Unless you want me to add Q himself.

While I liked Voyager (and 8472 weren't amazing but not bad), I agree that 8472 shouldn't be in the mod. Not only do we have 5 factions already, but even if we assume that 8472 are still alive in our own trekverse here, why would they possibly want to leave fluidic space just to attack everyone? They were provoked last time, and Voyager still managed to persuade them to go home and leave everyone alone- I just don't see them as a bloodthirsty race. The only 8472 ship I'd want to see in this mod (if it really has to be in the mod) is just one or two of their ships as a planetary defender or lost in the asteroid belts or something. But really, it doesn't make sense having them in the mod just for the sake of it. I know Armada 2 managed to do it, but lets face it, that was a weird game at best.
Just my opinion.
just wanna say great mod guys appreciate all the hard work u guys..n maybe gals, as on the Hill valley bttf mod for vice city, you deserve alot of credit for putting in all theses hours of real life time....i'm sorry i think i'm goin on and on lol anyway love the game..love the mod...love u guys (and gals)

I just like the idea of having an organic counterpart to the borg, a true nemesis and threat to the borg that the federation never should have been. Not to say they should be in the mod, I'm liking how its shaping up as it is.
You also have to remember Sins has a hardcoded mesh, and texture limit. Best we can do is replace the existing vanilla faction meshes. After that we "barely" have enough room for two more factions (not including the pirate faction). We had to remove many redundant effects to make room for these new meshes. That was one of the failures in 0.3e. We went way over the mesh limit, because we added four factions without removing the existing vanilla factions.. we were well over the 300 mesh limit, and i am amazed it worked before. It took 1.041 to realize that mistake among other mistakes as well. There was just something about 1.041 that made sins far less forgiving.
Agreed. With every patch , and update sins is becoming much less forgiving with errors. We may be getting some of the things we wanted from ic but with the good comes the bad.
Opps, maybe I mis-spoke... I didn't mean making Species 8472 a playable race... NOOOOOOOO. What I meant is every planet starts with a few ships orbiting it... their "planatary militia" according to the Scenario.def file.
My idea is to make meshes of just a few oddball ships from races you see now and then on different Treks: Vuncan, Andorian, B'jorian, whoever you like... more important whatever there is decient pics and reference material to go by... and make these into the planetary militia ships. Or in the case of the Orions... replace the pirate ships. So you jump into a Gas giant gravity well for the first time, and there are a few of the Species 8472 ships hanging out... or some Andorians... or Vulcans...or again my personal favorite: a doomsday machine.
To keep with Stress's story line we can assume Species 8472 got annialated... in my idea these would just be a few surviving stragglers you happen to stumble across. A little added surprise for the unsuspecting Trek fan...
Oh yeah I definitely don't think 8472 should be in the mod. Was just waxing about them from an appreciative storyline perspective

I wonder, is there any way you can make the borg cubes spin on their own when they attack? would bring all of their weapons to bear on the target like in scorpion (i know it's voyager but still, it makes sense)
Unfortunately, no. Sins ships do not have a setting for that, and you can't put one in (note that is it possible for structures like starbases, but only them). None of the properties that abilities can modify would do it either; you can modify speed and accelaration (including turning SPEED), but you can't force the ship to instigate a turn itself.
However, there is a solution for this when you play as the borg: send your ship into the middle of an enemy fleet. It may sound like it's crazy, but it's the best way to deal damage.

Input is always valued, but we are one step ahead of you. I agree with JTAYLOR the balancing on the WIP mod is definitely revamped. The version your playing was just a preview of the features to come in the 0.4e version of Soa2.
The 0.4e version will be far more than you would of imagined. It will not only look like the star trek universe, but all of the original sounds and music will eventually be replaced. It will sound more trekkie too.(Sound and Music alone is still a WIP)
I can tell you that you will like the version that will be released compared to the SOA2 OS version. You will like!
