Hello Distant Stars players!!!
We are pleased to start promoting a community around the mod we love to create and you love to play!
This topic is to help promote online play. No matter what you play, PvP, PvAI or PvPvAI! We will be having regular game times for everyone to gather and join up playing Distant Star!
The meeting place for setting up any Distant Stars game is currently Channel 'Distant Stars' on ICO. Once your there feel free to set up games among each other! Another thing we would like to promote is using Distant Stars in your game name. For example here are some game names: Distant Stars 1, Distant Stars 2, etc etc. You are all smart people. Warning:
Be sure to turn your graphics settings down to lowest and turn off all of the special effects like bloom and skyboxes... You're dealing with net traffic and other people's computers so to avoid unnecessary desyncs or disconnects, do your part and turn everything down.
We also suggest you Trim your Empire Tree to reduce mid-end game lag. Play with only the minimum ammount in your Empire Tree as you need!

Ok couple of quickkies b4 tonight......
1 - Do i HAVE to use TS to join the fun, i mean can`t i just show up in the game lobby ?
2- Just so i have a better understanding of the time, it ses 5pm eastern (9pm GMT), i live in the UK so is it 10pm or 9pm ?
I always get a little confused around the time zone differences LOL.... sry !!
1 - No, you do not need TS, it just adds to the fun. It's easier to talk, trade banter, swap insults, and do what you need to do in game then to stop what you're doing in game to type up something and send it.
2 - The GMT time listed does not account for Daylight Saving Time adjustments (the Eastern time does) so that anyone who reads the time can coordinate better and do their own adjustments off of the GMT time if needed since not all places make that change. The last time I checked, the UK does adjust for Daylight Saving Time, you would need to be on around 10pm your time.

Awesome... thanks, i can type as well as play LOL, spent many years doing things the hard way, colour me awkward but thats just me. I don`t see any changes atm to times so hopefully all is good for tonight .

P.s hers a few ways to kill a fleet of carriers.....
1 - Use equal number of carriers back +2
2 - An unpresidented number of frigates/cruisers
3 - Use harsh language (my personal favourite)....

just, double check to make sure your checksum is the xxxx1860 one.
and I highly suggust getting on team speak. Its not nessasary, but it tends to prolong your lifespan in FFA's, makes things like game hiccups and crashes much easier to fix. (like... if you leave the game you can still talk to us on teamspeak and be like "the stupid game crashed on me can we reload from the last autosave?")
Now, i will suggust this again on team speak, but there is a really really nice map of our solar system in the mod section for 4 players (obviously if we have more than 4 players, we cant use it)... but its a really really cool map. I would like to suggust downloading it. (and the best part is, its very balanced, AND has accurate distances!)

Ive trying out the DS mod for Diplomacy, i don`t think im gonna last long, i got hammered twice by Pirates and there own version of a battleship (looks pretty nice), and twice now by the AI (Normal), and about 45 mins ago got hammered in a 2vs2, me and a mate vs 2 AI (Easy)..... , seems like the AI had a complete makeover and are a major force NOT to be taken lightly. Without the mod or having it disabled i can handle AI (hards).... so with tonight i may not be lasting very long, but at least i`ll try !!
We uasually play with pirates off, so no worries there, and like i said, you will end up being with one of the more powerfull players in an attempt to balance things out.
well, you can at least listen in, so you know whats going on. (you have speakers, right?) cause, we also discuss things like "so... what map next?" and stuff, so, its good to know what we are saying, so you cna voice your opinion in the in-game chat.
where do you put the map? thats a good question... huh. cause for normal sins you put it in the galaxy forge folder... but... ok, just checked, ya, the galaxy forge folder works.
(so, you know how there is the mod folder where you placed the mod? in that same directory, there should be a GalaxyForge folder, (if not, create it) and place it in there.)

I've decided that since I'll probably be up anyway, this Saturday, May 8th, for our European friends, I'll get a game and TS up and running at 2pm UTC/GMT. So......
