We are pleased to start promoting a community around the mod we love to create and you love to play!
This topic is to help promote online play. No matter what you play, PvP, PvAI or PvPvAI! We will be having regular game times for everyone to gather and join up playing Distant Star!
The meeting place for setting up any Distant Stars game is currently Channel 'Distant Stars' on ICO. Once your there feel free to set up games among each other! Another thing we would like to promote is using Distant Stars in your game name. For example here are some game names: Distant Stars 1, Distant Stars 2, etc etc. You are all smart people. Warning:
Be sure to turn your graphics settings down to lowest and turn off all of the special effects like bloom and skyboxes... You're dealing with net traffic and other people's computers so to avoid unnecessary desyncs or disconnects, do your part and turn everything down.
We also suggest you Trim your Empire Tree to reduce mid-end game lag. Play with only the minimum ammount in your Empire Tree as you need!

Hey, I've been playing Sins for over a year and frequently PvP with friends. We use DS almost exclusively now. As my first post on this forum let me say fanstic work to the DS team. You made an awesome game even more awesome.
That said, my friends and I are looking for some competition outside our circle. I will try to get on the TS server in the next few days to dicuss this with other players but I will pose these questions here as well.
Are there other groups of ~4 players who like to play together?
What are the most common game settings used for PvP?

Well Carbon is down for now, I might have some time but am not sure. Can't speak for the other two.
I would be there buy I cant play on an Android phone...and thats all I got since Old Faithful kicked the bucket. Hopefully all the overtime Im working will be able to get a new one within a week or two. Dont know though...have yet to shop other than asking Dell what they wanted for a replacement MoBo. What they wanted was stupid so...Im better off buying a brand new computer.
When I get back up and running though...count me the hell in!!! Im ready to get my ass kicked as usual.

Carbon, buy all your parts at www.newegg.com. You can easily get a new MoBo cheap.
Well my computer was a laptop...and its custom fit for my model b/c its a Dell.
I would of gotten it off tigerdirect or newegg a week ago if i could, but i blame Dell. They want $600 for just the mobo...and on top of that I have to re-install the chips to it. Sooooo...fuck that.
I can buy a whole new awesome desktop for 600. Thats the plan. Just waiting on all that overtime ive worked to hit the bank...let me tell you though, I get voted off the island for a week or two and IC go all crazy with big ships....Gah...

Its been hard to get games going, but hopefully within a week or 2 I should up and running. I plan to attempt to play more often.

I dunno. When are we thinking of doing this? I assume this next weekend. Have no idea what the plans are with other people, but Saturday or Sunday during the day I should be free.
Um, I don't know. Been super busy lately with not much time for anything online other then a quick post here and there.
Sounds like there are a lot of people available. This is great news. Hopefully I'll get to play with all of you guys at some time or another. As far as this weekend, my group could be available for a Friday afternoon-night game (we are PST.) If some of you are interested in building a team of 4 and up for PvP please PM me. I'd love to hear from you.
A quick rundown of my players: we love PvP in the sense of learning strategies and outsmarting one another, NOT griefing each other beyond the usual innocuous banter. Win or lose, it's how much we've leaned and how awesome or close the battles were that counts to us. We tend to not fight to the last planet and will submit to a loss when an opponent has clearly broken defenses/dominated economically/conquered key gravity wells/etc. We love to recap outside the game afterwards and analyze/give props on tactics we tried out on any given game (even failed ones.)
Our usual match-ups take place with the following settings: large/huge random multi star, pirates inactive, ship speeds: fast, all other speeds normal.
These settings are definitely negotiable on our end, but that's the initial "challenge" if you will. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who'd like to accept it!

I have something big goin on friday... its supposed to end at 9 pm est... but it always goes late, so i wont be avalible, but i will check ICO when i get back and get a status report.
Crap, I'm not a strong MPer and so far I have... no one on my side. Not looking good for Team DS.
Usual setting for online is
Faster everything, Pirates off, quick start, locked teams, diplo victory off.
I'll check saturday 5pm cst. Sunday night will work for me too.
Thanks, it's good to know the norm. We'd be pretty comfortable with all that except for game speeds which would take some getting used to. I assume it forces you to have the research tab open a lot more often.

You also need to be specific on which version of DS.
There's an online MP version, and then there's the version for those of us who have installed the Betas... Kind of important to know which since the two cannot play together. If you guys are doing the MP version, then I'm out period since I've been working the Betas and reverting back is kind of a pain, and forcing everyone else to get the buggy Beta just wouldn't be right. =\
Bummer. We use the former as specified in the OP. Actually we use the official patch (36951860) when playing with each other but are MP ready (71807385) to play with others.
Same here. I am on the beta run as well. If you are willing to wait a week or two for the beta patch to settle and become offical then I might even be able to throw in the Flagship mod I plan on introducing soon for testing.
