We are pleased to start promoting a community around the mod we love to create and you love to play!
This topic is to help promote online play. No matter what you play, PvP, PvAI or PvPvAI! We will be having regular game times for everyone to gather and join up playing Distant Star!
The meeting place for setting up any Distant Stars game is currently Channel 'Distant Stars' on ICO. Once your there feel free to set up games among each other! Another thing we would like to promote is using Distant Stars in your game name. For example here are some game names: Distant Stars 1, Distant Stars 2, etc etc. You are all smart people. Warning:
Be sure to turn your graphics settings down to lowest and turn off all of the special effects like bloom and skyboxes... You're dealing with net traffic and other people's computers so to avoid unnecessary desyncs or disconnects, do your part and turn everything down.
We also suggest you Trim your Empire Tree to reduce mid-end game lag. Play with only the minimum ammount in your Empire Tree as you need!

For anyone else's info, the multiplayer update works with entrenchment DS. I tried it, but I do not know if it crashes randomly in game.

I'm having a problem with Teamspeak. I did the same settings as last time and it told me that the Canada server is down.
What is going on?
Nevermind, I connected to the one that Oranos said to connect to in earlier posts. It seems as if the Canada server is down today...
All of the Public TeamSpeak servers are down. (Canada, Europe, and the normal one) they've been suffering through swarms of hacker attacks for the past month. For whatever reason, dozens of groups keep hitting them and shutting them down. So whenever the Canada one is down always just check the FastTeamSpeak server. ip.freeteamspeak3.com same port, channel, and password. Easy thing to do is just bookmark the servers then all you have to do is select them when you want to check them.

Nope. I decided last week I was no longer going to sacrifice my sleep to be on in the morning since no one was showing up.
I'll be on later though. Have some things needing to be taken care of right now.

An hour in and all I've seen is Carbon log on, then off before I had a chance to get back over to my PC and say whaddup...
From the above message, Is anyone going to be on at the next time slot? (9PM EST?) on Sunday 18th July, 2010. I've been attempting to get this mod to work, however I have been unable to get it to work. Some guidence would be nice.

I would like to join DS mod online games but for some reason my checksum differs.
Recently I heard there is MP patch somewhere but I cannot find it. Can someone direct me to DL site.

Step by step if you're starting fresh (No mods):
1. Have Sins Diplomacy installed and updated to the latest version. (V1.011)2. Download Distant Stars Diplomacy. (V0.7)3. Put the DS mod in it's appropriate folder.4. Run the game, enable the mod, but DO NOT click apply and verify the checksum is 36951860. Ctrl+Shift+Tab will window the game to make this easier to check. If it's the same, just exit the game and continue on, if it's not, got back to step 2.5. Download the multiplayer patch. (MP1.1)6. Go to the folder where you put the mod and overwrite the files with the patch.7. (OPTIONAL) If you want to correct the problem of seeing paradise planet icons instead of ocean planet icons, decide if you just want a fix to the current set, or switch to a newer set. Picking either one or not doing this step at all has no effect on your checksum. It's purely a visual fix and should be included in the next official patch anyway.8. Run the game, enable the updated mod, but DO NOT click apply and verify the checksum is 71807385. If it's the same, click apply and you're done, if it's not, got back to step 5.
Step by step if you already have a working copy of DS Dip 0.7 (36951860)
1. Create a new folder called DS Online.2. Copy the contents of your DS Dip mod to this new folder.3. Download the multiplayer patch. (MP1.1) 4. Notice:
Most of us run two copies of Distant Stars Diplomacy. The copy that is with only the official patch (36951860) and a whole second copy of that in a new folder just renamed to multiplayer or something with the patch overwriting the files it needs to (71807385) to make the game run better online. No real reason for it, it's just how we do it.

I do have working DS mod installed and I did played MP online (CAPs only version) and I loved it. Players I played against told me about MP patch but since you guys are running without it I should be able to join. Checksum is the same as one without MP patch.....
Don't know why I couldn't join before and this is only version of DS ever instaled on my PC. Probably MP version was run in those instances.
Anyway I'm based in UK and if I ever catch you guys on I will definitely join .

We actually do play with the patch, we just also keep a copy that doesn't have the patch for various personal reasons.
Yeah I have 5 differnt version of DS. Each different some way some how.

Here's how it works Syneptus. You say, "I'm up for a game or three if anyone can make it on Saturday between 1-3 pm eastern daylight time." Then everyone else can make the adjustments. Like 10am to noon on the US west coast, 6 - 8 pm in London, 9 - 11 pm in Moscow, 3 - 5 am in Sydney. etc. =]
Oh and that 11 up top in the main post is in the AM. The PM game is at 9. (Eastern Daylight Time for both)
