We are pleased to start promoting a community around the mod we love to create and you love to play!
This topic is to help promote online play. No matter what you play, PvP, PvAI or PvPvAI! We will be having regular game times for everyone to gather and join up playing Distant Star!
The meeting place for setting up any Distant Stars game is currently Channel 'Distant Stars' on ICO. Once your there feel free to set up games among each other! Another thing we would like to promote is using Distant Stars in your game name. For example here are some game names: Distant Stars 1, Distant Stars 2, etc etc. You are all smart people. Warning:
Be sure to turn your graphics settings down to lowest and turn off all of the special effects like bloom and skyboxes... You're dealing with net traffic and other people's computers so to avoid unnecessary desyncs or disconnects, do your part and turn everything down.
We also suggest you Trim your Empire Tree to reduce mid-end game lag. Play with only the minimum ammount in your Empire Tree as you need!

I was getting all excited about trying to join in one of these games this weekend, but I have been called in to work. I've planned out my headset purchase for today, was going to download mod and entrenchment tonight, ready for play time 11am Sydney Australia time Saturday. But NO! I work in games, ironic how it seems to eat all my play time.
So NEXT weekend, definitely, I am in. Unless there is a physical or emotional emergency. Could happen...

I must not have read the instructions properly. For some reason I thought Distant Stars was for entrenchment. So its for Diplomacy? Is that what everyone is playing here?

Distant stars is for all 3 versions. Just make sure you get the right one. 0.7 is for diplomacy, 0.9951 is for entrenchment and 1.01 is for vanilla.

Pbhead claimed another 1vs1 victory. We played DS-Point Blank. I lost(Not a shocker there). Was much fun though, I dont think either one of us had Carrier cruisers. It was nice not to worry about hordes of SC.
You know, I don't think it would be too difficult to create a mod that limits strike craft to cap ships only. Remove the carrier cruiser, remove the hanger defense, remove the ability to field SC from star bases... Would be interesting to see the result not only in play, but on the performance of the game.

his refusal to build culture centers is what truely won it for me.... and the 3 cap ships bombarding his hw to dust... but it was mostly the culture.
Refusal?! No culture required me to own more than 1 planet ty. =P I wasnt good enough to own the rest of the map like someone.
And here I've been playing Portal since I got home from work today.
Carbon, your recent mentioning of Homeworld Complex and looking at this game has given me inspirations for future vessel designs I think I'll use in my games. I was thinking about the EWS bombers and was noticing the (somewhat) cap focus of the late game in Homeworld. Thinking of the drone frigates (more versatile than those in Homeworld) that my game uses, I was thinking of making an EW Frigate which can counter drone technologies in limited areas. I'll have to keep cross-referencing these games to see what other ideas I get.

Ummmm.... Levels 1 through 18 were pretty easy.... I've spend a lot of time just trying to figure out what to do next in level 19 which puts the previous 18 levels to shame... I'm thinking that I'm at the final boss though because the dangling thingy keeps insulting me once I figured out what needed to be done... The only problem is, my laptop isn't the greatest thing out there, wasn't even when I bought it, so it's chugging along and the frame rate is bad so I keep messing up and being killed by the neurotoxins....

ICO name is Roesh Free Traders or RFT *DS* or some variant of that... Depends on my mood really.... I got lots of names to use.
Good games last night folks. Team Carbon/Lead, came out on top in the end. Though RFT/Shaft put up a great fight. Impressive use of the Big Red Button. But they couldnt handle the horde of ships from us and pirates.
Looking back at it, its funny how during the first game we were all chatty and taunting. Second game....it was cold concentration. Egos were on the line. LOL!
