Well lately I have been buying a hand full of mmo games (ok only 2 Demigod and Sacred 2). Their is another that has caught my eye called kill floor which I'm not sure I want to get. As many people can't stand my grammar here is a link to the over view of the game (http://www.killingfloorthegame.com/overview/). When it comes to mmo I am not much of a fan of shooters, but this one seems it could either be interesting or a waste of money. So do you members of DG think?
Just for info MMO's (Massively Multiplayer Online) are games such as World of Warcraft (MMORPG), Planetside (MMOFPS?) etc. Demigod, Killing Floor, Sacred 2 do not have a 'Massive' amount of people playing them together, Demigod can have up to 10.
Killing Floor is a lot of fun, it's very shallow in what it does, but what it does it does well. It's worth the price if you enjoy this kind of game. Basically it's a slow multiplayer horror survival game. It's hard to stay alive and use different weapons to kill the huge amount of 'specifimens' coming for you and your team. There is a persistant leveling up feature where you get better at using certain weapons and other perks based on what you use in the game.
It's pointless single player and there's not much communication between players usually in public games. It's best when you play with people you know but can still be enjoyed in public play if you are a team player who doesn't care much who your team is!
If you can afford more I would advise Left 4 Dead instead (or better Left 4 Dead 2), better in almost every aspect, it is a lot faster paced but the gameplay, polish and variety of play far outshines Killing Floor. I would only play Killing Floor if I've been playing too much Left 4 Dead and my friends aren't around.
I know what mmo is, I was stating those were the only two close to a MMO that I have actually bought. I mostly well use to play free ones (GC, Domo, Gunz, S4L, and I can go on with the list.) I'm not really a fan of Left 4 dead or just about any shooting game. excluding guns and f4l which in 1 I mostly used swords and in the other I focused on healing my teammates.
Killing Floor is great fun and the developers are pretty good at fixing issues and occasionally some new content. Being a team based game, the quality of your experience will largely be determined by your team. Random pubs have worked well for me, but a griefer does pop up every now and then. It can really help communication if you or somebody else on your team has a microphone (the more the better). If you have a group of friends to play with then you are golden. It's hard to compare Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead. Beyond shooting zombies with a group of team mates, there aren't really many similarities. Killing Floor is much slower paced (for an FPS), has persistent stats and leveling (the level cap is 6. it'll take awhile to get there, but don't think it's a real RPG). If the game had cost $50 I'd say skip it, but for $20 its more than worth it to me. Just keep looking at the official website/forums to get a better idea. I wouldn't hold my breath, but there is a chance you could find it on sale during the Christmas/New years sales over the next few weeks too (either on steam or retail).

Healing team mates is big part of the game and there is a katana. So you can use a sword and heal your team.
I just bought it for $20, but what I wanted to know is how are the elements of the enviroment? Are they just their to look good or have a bit more impact in the game such as hiding, closing doors to slow down the enemy or stop them?
You can weld doors shut to keep out the zombies, but they'll eventually break through if somebody doesn't keep the door secured. It's important to keep an escape route handy. Locking you and/or your team in a room with only one way in or out is a good way to get everyone killed. Everyone on the team has a welder, but the support class can use it much more effectively. Doors, gates, etc. are really the only thing you can manipulate in the environment beyond hacking or exploiting parts of the map, but that's fairly rare and exploits tend to get fixed by the devs pretty quickly.
It's a fun game, especially at first. Once you get high level in perks, and once the premier locations on the map become second nature to you, the game can get extremely easy and repetitive. The most fun I had was playing on Suicidal with a team of people who were all about level 4, the level of challenge was perfect It's kind of fun to level up the perks though, just recently got all my perks to level 6.
I happen to run a dedicated server (along with L4D1 and L4D2) for Killing Floor and it tends to get a lot of traffic. Has all the stock maps and a bunch of custom (all whitelisted) maps as well. However I don't know how much longer I'm going to be playing the game, unless some new interesting mutator or update comes out for it.
As a warning, some of the perks are not well balanced on the higher difficulty levels.
Well i played 2 games with medic perk on easy....I wasn't even needed people barely got hurt and those that did just healed themselves. On top of that half the team was level 3-4.
Easy difficulty is just that, easy. People with level 3-4 classes definitly shouldn't be playing on easy. On normal things get a good bit harder but not impossible in random public servers and hard is a good step up from that. Don't try to join suicidal difficulty servers unless your class of choice is at least level 4 imho.
The best part of the medic class is you can level it by healing people even when you are not currently playing a medic. Easiest class to level.
Beginner in Killing Floor is like playing against angry cats. At worst, you'll lose one guy because he got careless and tried to fight off fleshpounds with his knife. At best, no one will take any damage throughout the entire game. If I were to play Beginner with my level 6 Commando, I could probably kill the Patriach with a machete.
On Normal and Hard, my squad absolutely needs our dedicated medic, especially with the Gored Fast mutator running. Without him, we start getting screwed over pretty quickly.
If the game's difficulty levels weren't so drastically different, I'd suggest playing on Normal. However, that generally isn't a good idea with a low-level perk. Find some experienced players and try it out as a team. Try to sit back, let them do the heavy lifting, and work on levelling whatever perk you'd prefer to play as - if you're planning on playing Medic, this is a perfect situation for you, especially if there aren't any other medics in the game.
Of course, throughout the match, you should also be looking for good playstyles and how the specimens work, assuming you're still new to the game. Look for good hiding places, figure out where the trader spots are, and get a good feel for the weapons.
The game gets pretty stale after a while, but it's good for some semi-mindless fun in between more intensive games.
This is one of the reasons why a Medic should play with friends. If you know people well enough, it's easy to convince them to hold off self-healing to let you level your perk. Hell, I even jump off cliffs every now and then just so our Medic can get some more heal points in.
Well, to be honest, that half of the team was a bunch of douchebags. At level 3, you should be playing Normal. Beginner becomes a carefree cakewalk at level 2, maybe even level 1.
My last couple of games were in normal, and they did take a little damage but nothing major. It wasn't until I jumped into suicid game I think that I spent more time chasing everyone left and right trying to heal them. Some people still basically healed themselves though.
