I've played multiplayer with this game since the very first day it launched. Yet it still never ceases to amaze me just how many dicks and assholes multiplayer with this game attracts.
Today I was on ICO. It often takes hours to get into a game. I had been patiently waiting a long time, just as many others had. Finally, a 10 player game filled up, hosted by Pawelo. Teams were being picked, when all of a sudden 2 Brothers In Arms guys who hadn't waited at all pop into the game chatroom and say "boot noobs so we can join!" Their names were:

The host promptly went down the line and booted "noobs" (basically people with unrecognized names or who hadn't played many games online) so that these clanners could join. The clanners laughed and made several references to booting the "noobs."
And people still wonder why the no one wants to play multiplayer? And people still wonder why multiplayer failed?
Is this how you clans want to represent yourselves?
To the leader of Brothers In Arms, do you care how your clan is represented? Do you care how your clan "brethren" conduct themselves and treat other people? Do you think this treatment of others by your clanmates (and this guy Pawelo, who, granted, isn't in your clan) was fair? Is this how you would want to be treated?

This is the common problem of online games. Moste of people dont want to get better. And they whine and the devs, who depends of playerbase, listen to the voice of the mob and use nerfbat. And skill stop beeing important factor. And numbers begine to matter the most. AND ITS SUX.
I say thank u Stardoc for keeping sins the way it is, where personal skill and strategy r most important factors, not numbers. Where 4 can win with 6. Where JJ is worth 2,5 players

Yes sins comunity will be small forever cause of the reason i mentioned, but i prefere it wil stay small then to chenge the rules and it grow full of lazy skilles peeps that do not want to do shit to improve and only whine to change the rules so the stop beeing owned. That would end like this: we comunity wants lum to have 5 beams insteed of 3, make 2x more dmg and cost 50% of oryginal cost. we also want 10x more income from homeworldand 2x less from other planets. and no neutrals, no vasa strabase, no kosturas bla bla

Qu4r, I will say it for the 10th time. This post has nothing to do with skill, how good or bad a player someone is, blah blah. Nobody was booted for skill, or lack of skill. No one has complained about being booted from a skilled game. This post is about something completely different. It would be nice if people had the reading comprehension skills to figure out what the topic actually is, but I guess that's just hoping against all hope.
It is about skill. Host kicked not cause he didnt like kicked. He kicked cause bia, whatever i say about them guaranteee certain level of skill. If u want not to be kicked, host noob only or earn your place. If u smurf, do not complain, every smurf will be kicked untill 10/7 status.

It was about two "popular guys" with "big names" (names which are listed on various "pro" lists on this forum) who popped up and asked others to be booted so they could have a seat. There were plenty of unskilled people in the game, which is usual because there are so few people online playing that hosts have to take whoever comes so they can fill a game.
This game didn't have "skilled" in the name of the game. If it did, there would be no problem with boots, and no one complaining (including myself). If you try to get in a "skilled" game you are accepting the risk up front that you might be booted for someone else who is more "skilled" than you. But this was not a "skilled" game, and it was not advertised as such. I have been booted from "skilled" games before because people claimed I was a smurf. I didn't write a post about it when this happened.
I am sure that I will have to say this a dozen more times, because for some reason it seems some people lack reading-comprehension skills (more valuable in life, I'd say, than gaming skills).

We generally take a hands off approach. Do you really want to play with someone who would kick you out so freely anyway? I recommend hosting your own game or finding a noob-friendly host that can show you more respect.

I'm late to this party, but I think this is the problem. The fact you must "earn your place" is the problem. It may have good intentions (if someone waits hours for a game they want a good one), but that doesn't make it good for the community. It ruins it.
And it is classless to ask other people to be booted so you can play. No doubt about it.
Like i said before, i reckon some sort of voting system should be built into booting, and if everyone votes to boot you, they probably wont be fun to play with anyway
on the other hand, imagine you are choosing teams for a game of schoolyard soccer (or equivalent). will you choose the fat, unco-ordinated spectacled boy on the assumption that while you may lose this game, and the next 5 or more after that, eventually he will get better? and then, there is no guarantee he wont change teams and cause to to lose the next few games?
i know its not directly appropriate, but the core fact remains that a game, just like every other kind of sport etc, is a competition, and people generally play to win, not to suffer a 'less-than-skilled' player on the chance he will continue to play and get better and become someone you WANT to play with.
Just looking at it from both sides... still, i can imagine if i was waiting for hours before a game started then get kicked 3 mins before it started, id be pissed off enough to go back to SP, so maybe some sort of ranking system should be built into the names of games, so when you start a game, you have to select whether its an "accept all comers" game, a "skilled only" game, a "noobs only" game or whatever other levels are required.
and, once a game fills up, it should be full. if someone comes along who you'd rather play with, relinquish your spot and go play with them, dont kick someone else. its just simply schoolyard ettiquette
"Earning your place" reall isnt that much of a problem. If there are lots of people on MP, hosts can pick and choose who they want to play with. But most of the time hosts are hard pressed to fill large games and dont mind playing with noobs just to have more players.
The real bummer is when you;re sitting in a game lobby waiting for it to fill for a long time, and then a game lets out and everyone wants in the game lobby. Poor noobs are likely to get the boot for people the host has played with before. But there are those of us out there who appreciate patience and go with the first come first served.
Agent: i reckon you should make a Clan only game, or Skilled only game, and then kick people out after 2 hours, just see how they like it
