I was going to pick up Torchlight but none of their purchase options really appeal to me. They said you could by directly from them but that site is not up yet. Guess I might have to buy Dragon Age instead.
Direct2Drive?
Torchlight and Dragon Age are kinda two totally seperate game types. Dragon Age is a more fleshed out full fledged RPG while Torchlight is a Diablo clone. Go with Dragon Age.
Unless, of course, one is in the mood for an ARPG rather than yet another sad Bioware rehash.
I've played but never finished BG BG2 and PST so I figure I probably wouldn't finish DA:O either. Been playing their flash game DA:Journeys. Heck I haven't finished Morrowind either. I'm basically looking for a D2 clone to time me over till D3.
I might consider D2D but prefer Impulse.
Both have excellent potential. And I respectfully decline the notion that DA is a rehash. Spend 10 minutes on some previews and you'll see...
Whatever. There is no reason not to own both, as Torchlight is a mere $20.
Diablo I -> Diablo II --> Mythos ---> Mythos II (a.k.a Torchlight) ----> Diablo 3
Definitely NOT a rehash. NwN 2 was a rehash. DA:O is the most original RPG I've seen in years.
NWN2 was Obsidian.
I dunno, the fantasy RPG genre is full of rehash IMO, but that doesn't mean it can't be a stellar game with a unique depth to it.
Whereas I don't have the slightest interest in Torchlight so I'm not going to say much there.
its a pure diablo clone with crappier skill tree and simplified character stats. even the soundtrack and soundeffects are the same. very poor voice acting
Believe me, not having it on Impulse makes me sad too. I picked it up yesterday and it's like electronic crack. I love this game.
Zoomba, are you aware about what is mentionned in this thread http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1343 on the runic games forum?
Yup, I'm aware of the thread on the Runic forums.
what is mentioned in your linked thread? i cannot see anythign else than that they would have liked to publish it on impulse. there is no speculation of a reason given. may be that they couldn't get an agreement for the money. who knows...
I picked up my copy directly from Runic last night.
pity, gonna have to buy it from Steam then. There's a demo available, for those of you interested, it is pretty much Yet Another Diablo Clone but with beautiful graphics, lots of charm, and some very interesting pet mechanics, primarily the fact that you can send them to sell off your loot while in the middle of a dungeon but also that you can use them as storage, and even give them items to equip. Sadly, unlike Diablo III, it still lacks pants
This news is depressing yet, very much appreciated. I'd much rather know than to be left wondering. What could have possibly not worked out with Runic & Stardock that they couldn't come to an agreement..? Stardock has a reputation for being Pro developer and Pro gamer so reading the linked to thread left me with more questions than answers. To be on every DD site other than Impulse strikes me as really weird. I mean dang, did someone forget to send an email or return a phone call or something?
Yep Zoomba, the game is a LOT of fun...and all I've played is the demo. Its a lot like FATE actually. I have a feeling I'm about to be hooked on Dragon Age though so I'm going to hold off buying Torchlight for a bit. Maybe Stardock will work things out with Runic by then.
lol, well, if you look at it like that then all RPGs with Elves and Dragons and such are rehashes of each other. Dragon Age is the first RPG I've seen in a long time that's made more for mature gamers.
Man I miss Imoen.
When I said this to someone earlier I then realized I'd just played The Witcher.
Gamings getting awesome again for those of us who don't want a T rating.
Me sad too, arg...When I have some free time, I will check out the origins.
Are you the same Luckman from HoN in the clan LC?
Also... are you really going to base the determination of a rehash based upon a possible character similarity??
On a side note. Torchlight, while obviously a Diablo clone (even the music, ack!), is worth the $20, even if it is a mindless grind... It's entertaining if you are looking to not think for a couple hours or two.
I expect that Dragon Age will do well, probably is a good game but it seems silly to see players continue to hype it up. Let's wait until the game is out before we label it.
Wow, what's the deal with Runic Games and Impulse/Stardock? I mean is it that painful of a process to get a game on Impulse?
Got it and i must say for the €15 its one hell of a fun game.
There is really no reason to not buy this game if you like ARPG even a tiny bit.
