I'm downloading a Direct2Drive version of this now. I most likely won't get around to playing it until later today sometime but it looks pretty good. The download is going to take a few hours and I'm probably going to bed shortly but it'll be ready to install when I wake up. Anyone played it yet?
My friend has played it on the Xbox and is enjoying it quite a bit. FPS with diablo loot system, he basically summed it up as "Hellgate, but actually really good this time!".
I have it pre-downloaded from STEAM but will probably hold off on playing it until I can LAN it with my friends this weekend.
I heard they shot themselves in the foot with the PC version. No cd-key checking to play online, and character files are stored locally. Basically pirates and cheaters everywhere. I guess it would be fine with friends who you know are going to play fair, but I can't see playing public games going very well.
I've never been a fan of random coop, for any game. I think MMOs (especially the earlier group-centric ones like EQ) killed any and all desire to play cooperatively with random idiots people.
For me, I'm looking forward to play this with my friends.
I just made it in the pre-relase timeframe for STEAM for $45.
I'm downloading it now, but it's a 7 GB dl and everyone on the planet is also trying to download it
I guess I'll play it tomorrow.
So far I've played it for about 30 minutes. It seems ok so far but I'm a little let down at the lack of PhysX in the environment. The enemies have what appears to be rag doll physx when they fall down dead. I saw a bottle sitting on a barrel near where you start. I thought "ok, target practice". I shot the bottle and.....nothing. At first I thought maybe I missed my target so I tried again. I shot the bottle at least 10 times dead on and it didn't even shatter....quite sad. The rest of the game better be pretty damn good or I'm gonna be pissed.
I'll do a decent review after I've played for a few hours.
I'm definately enjoying it. It's corny, but awesome.
My only concern is with the lack of CD key...I assume they'll still get us the DLC but I've seen that idea shot down enough times to wonder.
this game FTW!
just spent 14hrs straight playing it after first install.
its kinda like fallout3, but not that boring since the combat is actually fun although rarely difficult.
only prob i have is with balance. shotguns and smg's are way more powerful than any other weapons. shotguns can oneshot most creeps at pointblank and smgs do hvy and accurate damage at quite good range. sniper rifles cant really match this + the fact that theyre totally inaccurate
Wait until you hit the armored spider ants Inerz. They a bit tough. Best way I've found to kill them is to run behind them and shoot them in the abdomen. Even a shotgun to the face doesn't phase these things.
Stay the hell away from Borderlands if you ever liked Fallout 3 and expect something like it.
It's more a mix of half-life 2 with a skill systen akin to diablo 2 set in a "borderlands" type world. None of the atmosphere but the same lack of greenery. Otherwise it's decent enough.
And it has .... issues: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/367947
Haha, what? Why would you ever imagine Borderlands was anything at all similar to Fallout 3? It's almost like saying "Hey, don't pick up Elemental if you ever liked World of Warcraft". I mean sure, they're both set in a fantasy setting, but other than that it's completely different, and I think that's understood.
Borderlands was never trying to be in the vein of Fallout 3, it's trying to be a ARPG with FPS mechanics.
... which is so totally unlike Fallout 3
I have been playing this a bit with a few people from Demigod and I am having a blast.
The game definitely shines in multiplayer.. the voice system is a little weak for me and the matchmaking system could be fleshed out a bit.. but add in a vent server and 3 people who actually want to enjoy the game... super!
For anyone still playing or just picking it up - add me: Mauxe
This might be known to the general populace but I just learned of it and wanted to share.
When you are looking at an item and want to compare stats the game (for whatever reason (read:design flaw)) limits you to only 4 lines of attributes/bonuses/text. Higher quality items could end up having 6 lines of text so you would be missing the knowledge of key bonuses when doing a comparison.
Here is a fix that was just posted. As far as I know this is a PC fix only (I have no idea how the 360 handles ini files).\
Open the gd_globals.INT file.Replace
AttributePresentationTranslation="$NUMBER$ $CONSTRAINT$ $DESCRIPTION$"
with
AttributePresentationTranslation="<font size="10">$NUMBER$ $CONSTRAINT$ $DESCRIPTION$</font>"
Depending on the size of the monitor people are reporting a value of 8,9,10 can work well with smaller numbers being difficult to read comfortably.
Here is the post I found this in: http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=80932&page=26
I had been looking for an answer to the age-old question: "Why can a friend-only game NOT be joinable by friends? (without an invite.".No answer as of yet.
Because the patch isn't out yet, probably.
