Thought it would be great to have ways of stealing technology... or maybe share technology... would bring co-op play to a whole new level...
Think about a TEC players buildnig Vasari ships (not all of them or anything like that) but stealing the tech to build just one thing or something like that.
or maybe spys could disable another player's research so that a technology is nolonger available to them... like erased from their systems or something...
Very interesting. Nice idea

No, no, no, NO!
I will ferociously assault any and all who propose crapola like this.
There is NO need for cross-contamination of fleets! It will ruin the frackin' game by obliterating any and all sense of balance. I'm sorry man, but you just CANT have your cake and eat it too. Just roll up three games if you want to play three ship trees - or jump on the Advent bandwagon and go mindcontrol some ships from the other factions.
I'd go on, but I've argued against this elsewhere already >.<

I'm in favor of this suggetion! There would have to be some kind of risk with using knock-off tech but it would be nice to try!
I think that if this feature was implemented, the technology between faction should widen so that spy would be more useful!
I think this would be an awesome idea... but there has to be a downside... yeah like Zanosan says... I also think there should be limits on how to you could do this. Maybe you can't steal the tech to make the ship, but maybe it's just a couple of ships? or maybe it can be restricted to only certain planets that could produce a new unit? Like say at TEC stole Vasari tech... then they can only be manufactured from Volcano planets maybe?
nice to see another BSG fan here, too
besides, i agree with him:
one might consider the option of stealing/duplicating (ship) techs when all the available races in a game have at least more or less the same tech tree(s), but since this is not the case, i´d basically not support this.
the idea itself is interesting, but not in a game like SOASE.
the climax of all should be a temporary control, but not the capability of building otherwise unavailable units, except for maybe extremely high tech levels (7 or 8).
besides from all what was said here, it might be an interesting idea to share technology that has nothing to do with ship (construction).
you know. like the TEC and vasari (in the way of true diplomacy ) exchanging tech to optimize the yield of mines, etc.
perhaps a treaty/researchable tech in which both/all players must invest a (rarely high) amount of resources to raise their income by a certain amount as long as they participate in the treaty.
Now that's interesting... ok... first of all what does diplomacy and spying come to if you can't get anything quite so tangible out of it? Like tech to build ships or mines or whatever? I guess I can think of some things but in the end it's not very interesting.
Sharing, which was mentioned earlier is a valid way of diplomacy as well... it ends up being the same... tech trees can be exchanged...
but what if there was something like a research treaty... and there is an independent tech tree for such alliances? special TEC/Vasari techologies etc? Treaty can be broken and further benefits stopped... until you reestablish a treaty with another TEC/Vasari combo? or something like that?
hmmm...
