I really Like Distant Stars, and would love to play it online with people, I love huge maps but I am willing to play anything. I live in the Eastern Time zone of the US and have a huge window of avalibilty so if anyone else is interested drop me a line. Hope to hear from someone
yes all the income (credits, metal, crystal) has been upped, of course alot of the research and caps ships are upped in cost as well (sometimes you are paying 2200 credits, 800 metal, 650 crystal for one thing of research)
Yes, I know stuff is more expensive, but we still had a metric crapton of money. And caps are more expensive because they are about twice as powerful, so it is actually easier to deploy significantly more firepower a lot faster. I totally understand it is a preference thing, but I tend to prefer doing a bit more micro and playing a bit more of a paced game.
Well its the fast setting. Its doubled everything. Next time we should play on normal. Which is the fast speed for normal Sins. Or even have some slow settings?
I usually play on slow settings, though not play much slow on MP though.
I'm guessing you were playing on all fast - which is twice as fast as normal Sins fast. I got caught out by it too the first time I played (SP). It was like "what? My economy is thriving?" (I usually break my economy the first few minutes int for some reason...) so yeah, watch out for that. I haven't played on slow or normal speeds yet though, so I may just be gabbling rubbish...
EDIT: Nvm, Carbon ninja'd me...
Yeah, I was just testing this myself to see the differences. I never had played on fast before, so I was caught by surprise by the income rate. When I play single player, I usually play on slow for larger more epic maps (no other reason to play single player anymore).
On a side note, by the end of the game the huge urban world I had was providing more income than my other 5 worlds combined. And this is considering I had to build a few labs on it, so it could have been even more developed!
yes the urbans (even the moon sized one) are jewels to be conquered, I made a map where you had five of these jewels (they are huge sized) that are guarded by three starbases and a whole bunch caps (it is called Ashes of the TEC).
ya... urban planets seem over powered (i was getting almsot 500 credits/second... and had not finished holds research).
7 trade ports * 2 urban planets and a nice long trade chain.... ya...
Was a good game though. so... next saturday, same time? heh.
yeah need to keelp urbans to a minimum, but are great to have as a focal point
edit: hmmmmm new map Idea
second edit: yeah lets try again next week, hopefully my internet will be stable
ya, if you have one urban planet that is like... a choke point and everyone is equidistant to it... ya... good map... however on random maps... they are preety imbalanced imho. I mean frack the taxes... just the rediculous trade.
edit: you edited... now my post is preety worthless.
cant wait to see that map idea.
kinda tried that with the Ashes of TEC map (will be modifying it to make it more streamlined) and made you pay to get them, will probably try a smaller map that is more geared to fast and furious play instead of epic
Well the mod has not been balance for competive MP yet. So Im sure there are alot of things are are OP currently. We do have plans to balance EVERYTHING by 1.0.
I cant do it next Saturday, but dont let me stop yall. Oh wait, I didnt do anything to yall this game anyhow. ROFL!!!
hey lets try to balance out the mod for MP like this, get together and see what everybody thinks and take a consensus
Its always nice to get feedback. But we may want to wait slightly before we get really deep into balancing. There are some new addtions planned for 0.90 patch. They could greatly affect the balance.
We could though get a start on the basics though!
I can't really comment on overall balance...isn't the mod balance pretty much like Sins with some tougher cap ships?
I think most of the balance issues that I have seen are from the map setups...one person could have a couple of really awesome planets next to them while another could have a few cold airless rocks. Planets like the huge urban world I got in my last game can tip the balance of power to that player....they aren't meant to be all over the place ...they are supposed to be like....Coruscant in Star Wars -- very rare worlds.
I tend to use some custom designed map generators that add more lower value gravity wells (asteroids, uncolonizable, special, etc) and have less of the "Sins Plus" worlds. This works for me in single player, but it would probably help out multiplay as well.
Ima not sure I like how tec need 6 logistics slots per lab while the other races only need 4... not sure where that came from. if it was all 6 that makes sence... but the other races getting 3 labs for the logistics of 2... i dont know...
it comes from the fact that the TEC can get another 10 logistic slots added on to its planets
Well you cant balance Random maps. Next time we should either cook up some maps with the end game editor or use one of the one that come with the mod.
well advent can add quite a few tactical slots... but i dont see their repair bays taking up more slots. (right?)
in order to get that research... you need 6 (right?) civic research stations... thats 36 slots... and what happens if you get stuck with crappy planets... its catch 22... I need slots... but i need a shizzload of slots to get those slots.
well, you all are not done balancing... so whatever... Its just that by the time you can get the devlopment mandate research... your either already won... or you have lost (prolly because you spent so much money compared to the other races on logistic slots)
I mean... lets do soem thinking... broadcast centers do alot in your mod... +50% allegence... for early game... this is simply awsome... waaay more awsome than trade ports... and can pust on enemy allegence.... as they are currently... in competitive play... you will find that broadcast centers are REQUIRED, and required early.
advent can get broadcast centers with 8 logistical slots... and illum spam with 12 more logistical slots...
it takes tec 18 logistical slots for broadcast centers... to counter the 1337 advent broadcast centers... and then another 18 slots to even have a hope of defeating the advent illum spam.
20 slots vs 36. for labs only. add in 1 boadcast center... and thats 22 slots for advent and 40 for tec...
whatever... like you said... yoru not done balancing yet.
Edit: herm... we should do a few 1v1's just for fun, and to see how well everything works out. one of you going to be on sometime today?
Can I join?
we prolly need to start a new thread... I dont think anyone is noticeing this one anymore...
herm...
Well, I do and don't. No one has said anything specific recently, but I would love to find a friendly game online for a Friday. No one seems to play Friday.
On another note, you guys didn't happen to record this game did you? Mind posting it if you did?
I had the works, pics, videos clips, the replay. Had being the key word. After I bit the dust, my own fault for sure. Was to busy taking pics and videos and being just excited to see other DS players playing together that in my excitment, I overloaded my RAM and computer. Blue Screen of death. And lost the pics, videos and apparently the replay. So, unless someone else was thinking, Do we even have evidence that this happened LOL?
We need to have another game, this time leave me to be neutral. So I can not play and try to watch everyone else play for Pics.
If you remember the exact date and time we played, I'm sure I could find it in my autorecorded games.
I don't know that it was THAT memorable a game.
Just to comment on pbheads good point about logistic slots for labs -- I do like the fact they take 6 slots...kind of makes the game more epic and slows people from skipping techs. Then I noticed that other players still used 4 slots. If you have time and space, I'm sure this will all equal out, but as pbhead points out, in close quarters TEC is completely screwed. You kind of have to tweak something on the other races so they don't have as big an advantage. For example, if they took 5 slots per lab, they could put 2 labs and a broadcast station on a roid. You could also increase their slots for tradeports since TEC are the trade masters...supposedly. Just ideas.
Well, it wasnt so much that the game was epic, more the fact that we had that many DS players playing. Besides its what I do take pic an vids ingame. My HD is full of junk like that.
Anyhow the logistic slots will be fixed in the next patch. All will be 4 for the time being. I wanted to make them 6 for all races but 4 is easier to fix atm.
