So, now that the first episode has aired, what do you think?
Other than the style (too BSG/Defying Gravity (camera shots and flashbacks) for my taste - it seems the norm these days though) I like it so far.
Good story line, good cast and characters, and a fresh new twist to the SG saga.
Although, why hasn't there been any mention of an actual FTL drive in the other series? If so many ships were sent out with these drives, it should have been noticed by either SG1 or SGA in their searches of the Ancients databases.
But overall, I am looking forward to (hopefully) several more new seasons of Stargate.
thanks, stargate is DUMB!
as ive already pointed out, i don't watch SGU, for reasons that i have already mentioned in this post.
I don't understand RASTLIN why you would go and post in a thread about a show you don't watch. I mean do you just like enflamming people? There is several thousand other threads on this board. If you cannot contribute to this thread, pelase exercise some etiquette and leave.
well, first i wanted to know whether SGU was as awful as SG1, but that's problematic because it seems none of the SG fans like it, so that could mean anything. secondly, a number of ludicrous comments were made about shows like B5 or BSG and i felt the need to correct such errors.
im as free to post what i loathe about crappy scifi as you guys are to post what you love about it.
I think you should definitely try to watch one episode of SGU, just to let us now, what you think about it....maybe in the end you will agree with us, it is not good enough, even if our opinions about SG-1 do not match. I agree with you that BSG is deeper and probably better show than any of SG (though i think i like them both equally), but Universe while it tries to be like BSG, it is nowhere near it. But it sucks for different reasons than you say SG-1 sucked, not because it is like SG-1.
Still to be fair i am still watching it, cause i still have faith and do not want to write it off just after few episodes. IMO BSG´s first season until the last episode was not extra spectacular as well, same goes, for B5, DS9 and other shows...what i have seen actually only Andromeda and Earth Final Conflict started great, but than faded.
Anyway you lot seem to adore the Firefly, i have not seen yet. Is it really that good and worth of getting? I confess the name of Joss Whedon does not excite me, cause i suppose he made Buffy right? And i did not like that very much (except Sarah Michelle Gellar, she rocked hehe), though i probably did not seen enough to judge it.
Firefly was an awesome show, unfortunately shows like that dont last long on particular networks, NBC,ABC,FOX,CBS. And then they made sure to bury it in the movies. Guess they had to shut up the scifi fans somehow.
As for RAIST he really is only here to flame. Most of his posts have had nothing to do with B5 BSG or Firefly. The majority has been nothing but calling people who enjoy SG1 morons and idiots for enjoying it. And somehow they are beneath him for not thinking it sucks. You are free to post all you want RAIST you are not free to flame. So from here on out, you might want to contemplate what you write down in here before you do so. As It might find itself being sent up to moderators for flaming.
sounding a little butthurt there bro.
say what you want Raist, but being a cyber bully doesnt make you tough.
um, im not bulling anyone lol.
Well Allegiance, you have to admit that SG-1 was pretty much of a "switch brain off and enjoy the ride" show. I wouldn't go as far as stating that was dumb, but it certainly wasn't providing any form of intellectual challenge either.
Personally I liked it nevertheless. Even though I'm usually not very fond of militaristic shows.
And calling someone a troll, flamer or bully for stating an opinion that differs from your's and especially threatening to report him to the mods is quite childish IMHO.
Mommy, RAISTLIN called my fellow SG-1 lovers names! Make it stop mommy! Make it go away...! *rollseyes*
There is a saying... "Whomever the shoe fits..."
and pulling out the 'build a bridge a get over it' card is no better. Raistlin has the opportunity to say: i dont like SG1, and he has the opportunity to clarify it further if he wishes. however, he didnt, he came in with his flamebat a-burning looking for a fight, and trying to justify his position with a greater-than-thou because i watch 'deep sci-fi' attitude which would gain him no brownie points even with people who potentially agree with him.
coming in here and saying: 'Stargate is dumb' and and variants and 'sounding a little butthurt there bro' is proof of his maturity level. and honestly, that such blunt comments can come from someone who supposedly appreciates 'deep' entertainment, makes me doubt the value of said shows.
lastly, attacking someone who is expressing distress over an opinion is bullying. plain and simple. im not only talking about Raistlin, im talking about Star Adder. its like saying, right, well, you dont like the fact this guy is using offensive analogies and turn of phrase to describe his dislike of X, but, you arent allowed to say anything because of freedom of speech [/oxymoron]
Raistlin can have his opinon. there are appropriate ways to voice his opinion. doing so in such a fashion that is offensive is not one of them. he said himself, he came flying in when someone 'badmouthed' DS9 or whatever. so he didnt appreciate it, what gives him the right to dish it right back out?
Well, maybe my stance on this stems from the fact that I usually ignore posts that I consider to be not worthy the effort of replying and/or shake my head in silence. But I certainly would not come to my mind to tell him/her:"Uh, bad motherf...! I'm gonna report you to the mods!" But your mileage may vary...
Be it as it is. It also happens often enough that the fanbois gangbang folks with a different opinion unwarrantedly. And that's gonna be my final comment on that issue.
No one said "im going to report you to the mods" I warned that further flaming may get him reported. Now the two of you want to talk about "running to mommy like children" your the ones continueing to act childish when your warned. Running around name calling and trying to insunate that somoene is running to their mommy is as childish as playing with blocks. Is that what you and raist do when you dont get your way? you harrass someone til they accept your bad behavior? Maybe you and Raist are used to getting your way with others. But that doesnt fly with me. So you want me to "threaten" to report. Ill do one better. The next person decides to flame i PROMISE to press that report button.
flame
haha, that made me laugh =P
My friend noticed that stargate universe is missing music...
it really is. that might be what you all are missing.
s g u is boring and flat, if bsg have a new temp all pleople forget sgu
Nope. It is good acting, and a good storyline, and many other things.
Music? Not so much.
Tonights episode was a step better then the last what 7 episodes, might of been because there wasnt much arguing this time around. And the crew was actually getting into it with alien chest suckers.
It was better in that respect.
But I find it unlikely that they contract a parasite on one planet, then at the very next that they come to they discover a cure from the venom of the 'alien chest suckers'.
And, it ends there without a 'current time line' being successful. The preview for next week does not look like it picks up at that point, and so far every attempt to capture one of the creatures has failed miserably. With two failed time lines it looks like it could simply loop forever, unless in one they could manage to come up with a way of getting a creature back to Destiny without everyone dying first.
Sorry, still too weak. I doubt this show can last more than a single season if they can't come up with anything better than this.
It seems the writers of this show thinks everyone is brain dead (much like the Obama administration thinks of the American people). So sad.
Moose, I hate to brak it to you, but a lot of America is brain-dead.
So what qualifies for brain dead? Is it an educational threshold? Is it the ability of critical thinking? Understanding the world around us?
Is it possible that some people who have to use their head all day, want to come home and just enjoy entertainment? Are they qualified as brain dead?
Are people who believe in something that cannot be proven brain dead?
Are artists who have a naturally different way of using their mind brain dead even though they cannot understand a moderate critical thinking problem brain dead?
Hell, someone who loves the outdoors may think that those who sit at the computer every day are brain dead.
I guess I'll just have to say for everyone who cannot think for themselves, we are all sorry that we enjoy a show that you do not.
I just assumed that the Retelling of a retelling would have been too much and so they just made it seem like until they were able to save themselves theyd be stuck in the loop. So its assumed that Scotts last message about what to look for and what to expect forced them to rally faster then the last time.
The first time they watched the recording of the kino it recorded EVERYTHING that happened on the planet...almost 36 hours worth. This time it only had to record an hour or so.
The Crew has plenty of time this time around to save themselves. And its reflected in the next episode that picks up outside the loop. While I would have liked to see them actually save themselves its safe to assume they actually did save themselves this time.
The venomious alien creatures could be chopped up to conicidence that they get sick just as they arrive at this planet where a venom is capable of killing off the bacteria they have been drinking.
Think about it their going planet to planet. Eventually they would have ran into some vicious creatures. The venom just happened to be able to attack the bacteria. There was no link. But at the same time they had to explain where the bacteria came from, as well how to deal with the alien creatures.
Im not going to harp on this episode because for me its a step in the right direction. I want to see more episodes where they get it in with the enemy. But I know for a fact they dont have that much ammo so sooner or later the writers are going to have to link them back to earth. Maybe via a beam device that you see on the Asgard ships.
The latest episode 'Time', tried to improve the formula by using the tired 'time travel' plot device. The episode was quite watchable, we actually got to see alien lifeforms this time. I just wish they would have tied things up at the end, instead of just ending with a lousy cliffhanger, that isn't going to add anything storywise or suspensfull to the next episode.
"With two failed time lines it looks like it could simply loop forever, unless in one they could manage to come up with a way of getting a creature back to Destiny without everyone dying first."
lol, that just gave me the most awesome story line every for the series:
Season 1: or, How We got a Disease and got stuck in a Time Loop.
Season 2: or, Capturing a Creature.
Season 3: or, How We got out of the Time loop.
And of course since they are in a time loop, they can stay there as long as they want.
But seriously... time loop plots are probably my least favorite of all. They feel like playing a video game with cheat codes enabled... you can do whatever you want, and screw up anything you want, and there are no consequences. I think the only time travel episode I liked was "1969" in season 1. For the most part, they end up being one of two varieties, A: cheat codes enabled or B: we just showed you an episode which resolves in nothing happening to effect the main plot line(such as "2010" or the Continuum movie). IMO, the only way to make time loop episodes good is to load them with so much humor you ignore the fact that the story of them really wasn't that great.
I voted for McCain since he was the lesser of two evils in the last election. Didn't have transportation to vote in the primaries, but for the main election Cain got my vote. As for Barak Hussein Osama, his administration doesn't expect people to be stupid, but he holds the trump card of giving the appellation of "racist" to anyone who disargrees with him, or at least his lackeys can or any of his followers who give him favoritism because his skin has a slightly higher melanin concetration than an albino.
