After doing a very dark theme, I enjoy using it so much I've decided to do another dark, but less dark theme, without the need for a substyle
I'm calling it Polaris for a couple of reasons, has rather a radioactive look and my father served as first weapons officer on the Polaris class nuclear sub H.M.S Resolution for many years. One of 4 Polaris class subs the British navy had back then, all since decomissioned. The orange really has no significance other than it is one of the better.. glowey colors and goes really well with a dark grey\blue.... oh... and it just happens to be October
Anyway.. so far so good, will post screens as I have them. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of orange matching icons available. There are a couple of decent sets but nothing that matches perfectly and IP's recoloring feature is rather meagre. Bit disappointed on that front. Maybe a certain someone wants to step up
I see after laying some elements out together than some of the oranges need matched up slightly better... oh well.. is a WIP..It'll get sorted out... all in good time.
Cheers.
Oh yeah! They just keep on getting better and better John!
Really cool!
This does look good! You seem to be in a gray mood lately!!
Looking good John, really like the wall. Dark gray is awesome.
Small world...my uncle Saul designed part of the guidance system. Hope there'll be a 'light' substyle...Looks excellent, John. Too bad the digicons are busted.
Sooooomeone didn't read the description very well
Thanks everyone
How about a substyle with a winflag on the startbutton?
I may do that , had a couple of requests, although you would think people would eventually get sick of seeing it.
On second thoughts I think i will just start including a winflag version start button image in the zip that users can overwrite the default with by simply dropping into the WB folder.
It's just not enough of a change to warrant a substyle imo.
Good enough for me.
I've found that as I grow older, a bit of contrast helps these old eyes...the font in the ss doesn't stand out strongly. That was the reason I asked. I did read the OP. Other folks made other requests.
No matter.
Doing a full light substyle is a huge amount of work for a single WB, especially one that these days requires different OS's and substyles for those too, which means doing it all over again for each OS, then.. if you add in start button substyles for light and dark versions, then those x3 for the diff OS's.. and that doesnt even cover anything else you might want to cover like diff. colors, 2nd start menu's and buttons, apples , flags, peace signs, diff font substyles etc.... you can see where I'm going with this.
Point being , until the OS's are whittled down some, substyles are really the last thing on at least my agenda, they just multiply the amount of work too much, tend to complicate things massively, can cause issues etc.. you can see where I'm going with this ... i hope.
Not saying I'd never do them, I usually do.. will just depend. I designed this in the hopes that because u can read black text over the grey, that it will be usable without a light style. In fact it was the only way I was going to do another at least semi-dark skin.
Not trying to bitch but sometimes just drives me crazy when everyone throws out substyle requests perhaps not knowing what all goes along with making them.
You may be surprised also, in addition, how many tweaks I do for users that email or PM me for some special modification of a skin.
As far as contrast goes, u do know WB is capable of font replacement, color adjustment etc..In addition it is very easy to tweak font sizes and colors in SKS to your suiting.
I am using calibri in this after taking a break from using it, as for me it's by far and away the best looking MS font. Tahoma, Arial, Segoeui all look bulky in the start menu to me.
Peace to the world and good luck to Obama, cos Lord knows, he needs it right now.
Yep.
I know what you mean doc....I'm pretty sensitive in that area too...I particularly find fonts that have been over glowed on the taskbuttons & titlebars very irritating too....but, have to say, these old eyes having no problem here....I think it might surprise you...
That shure is purty, John
btw Doc, nothing was directed at u personally. Just trying to give everyone a broader understanding of how quickly a WB can multiply workwise as substyles are added., you just happened to be the one to bring it up.
So clean, nice job
very nice
Absolutely, John. It's that you make it all seem so darned easy. I feel guilty that I asked for a whole substyle...I shouldn't have asked for that as it really wasn't exactly what I meant and not being a skinner, I have no conception of the work involved.
I feel it's dreadfully unfair that you were blessed with all that talent and I, none.
I'll have to take that up with the proper department at some point...hopefully in the distant future. I'll also probably get a "Ho-hummm" answer.
Don't let it fool ya.. 95% is hard work, stick-to-it-ivness and pride. I'm no more talented than the next girl.
I really believe anyone could do a pretty good job on a WB with their mind firmly set on course.
And so modest too!! John, you are talented and this one is sold also, I assume it's a Master skin.
Excellent color scheme. I'll have to add this one to my collection.
*Grudgingly, doc opens his wallet, moths fly out and Jefferson blinks in the sudden light.
Damn. I'm looking at it John and yeah that orange is a tough one.
I've browsed several galleries trying to match it up with different things.
Looks like a job for MaxStyles.
Tis another work of true beauty bro because your dark themes are never too dark!
Personally I'm still stuck on Naked, Noir and VOX
Thanks guys,
CP, the set i'm using works pretty durn well, I would like to see Skinhit pop in and volunteer even a compact set but I understand the time involved in making an IP so looks like will have to do with the set I'm using... which actually works great with it or possibly.. trying my own hand at it.
