EA Games, Ruins everything. well they have killed all of my favorite games from the command and conquer series, to Ultima, Bullfrog studios, I normally avoid buying anything with their logo, but....
last weekend I went to EB games,.. I looked and there was Lord of the rings : Conquest, looked ok, decided to buy it, not reading the giant warning label "EA Games" I installed the game and EA Games started up, and was like well maybe they have changed, so I started playing the game, and hated at the character selection screen, I played it for about 5 mins, and decided it would be better to have scurvy, and tossed it.
I should have learned my lesson the last time, yes sim city 4 kinda sucked, but maybe sim city societies will fix some of that and the game will be good again, nope scurvy again.
At least Cities XL, looks like its recaptured the way sim city should have went. I like all these smaller gaming company's taking games in a direction that gamers actually want games to go in. Thats why when I saw in the Elemental forums that only until the developers and beta tester's decided the game was sufficiently fun without next gen graphics would they add them, and the fact that they encourage suggestion's and such..
Well, EA made me go through lots of pain to make spore playable (and then it also sucked, they ruined the entire game and all those stuff and I hate them. However I'll admit that there's one game that I like and that is Battlefield heroes.
Yeah I hate them too, ruined many game titles for the sake of making Sales quick. I posted how I felt on thier website, got trolled an made this comment so they banned my account for 72 hours... hahaha yet I still was able to log in an respond to their customer service an let them know I Felt. Yeah What I said was mean back to their response but really sparked it was the fact I bad mouthed their company on their own FORUMS LOL!!!

I bleeped the word but im sure you can feel the space in if your mind is as colorful as mine.. haha Didn't want to piss off Stardock.
I don't hate them, I just refuse to do business with them for now, mainly due to this DRM policy and having a ton of pre-order exclusives (which I find really annoying).
Really, doing right by your customers just makes good sense in the long-term. When you screw over your customers, they're going to abandon you at the first chance. Unfortunately, Stardock seems to be the largest company in the gaming industry that truly understands that.
Latest hate I have for EA right now is the only 360 game I can foresee getting in the future which is Forza 4. But wait a second, EA has the rights to Porsche and they don't feel like sharing them (even though Turn 10 has the rights to Ferrari and they are always willing to share it...)
I love Porsche! WTF! Lots of my signature cat cars for Cat and Mouse (best car racing game type ever!) are gone, the Porsche Panamera (car is a beast ie drop a Carrera GT engine into it and its heavy so I will be knocking you around lol) Porsche Boxster 2010, countless Porsche Turbos, GT2's, GT3's, Carrera GT... Ya these cars might come later in the form of more expensive dlc thanks to EA... Jerks...
I don't hate EA, I despise them. The way they do their business is over the top. I'm a money seeking, opportunity grabbing capitalist myself. I've entrepreneu'd a variety of ways to earn money over the years. I also create unique art and understand the need to protect IP. So I get the drive to earn and protect. But they've no respect and decency. + they make an otherwise desirable product, undesirable in their "go big or go home" approach. Better to leave the art to the minds of the artists. And stop tainting the product with proof of ownership restraints. And stop trying to DLC surcharge every freaking thing they can.
Here's a Civ4 screenshot I edited in response to the lack of expansions and extras for EA games @ GOG.com
(this pic makes more sense if you've played Civ4. and know a little about GOG.com).
I try to avoid EA games, the buyout of Bioware bothered me and I can see the effects it is having on their games. Dragon Age 2 feels like an EA game.
I don't particularly like EA, their DRM and business practices are questionable, and they destroy good studios with their taint. Maxis (never much cared for games like The Sims and Spore, but come on), Westwood Studios (CnC Generals managed to avoid the taint, but BfME series could have been so much better), and Pandemic Studios (its as simple as the Star Wars: Battlefront series was great, but LotR Conquest was just awful with the same engine) got dismantled for their IP, which was turned into shadows of its former self. I get really concerned when a good studio gets bought out by EA.
Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic look like they might be worth it, but I don't have the console or the hardware to play either of them so I will probably have to wait and see.
I just hope EA saves room for other game companies and not try to out compete them. The name "EA" automatically speaks for itself. The only thing I hate about EA is that they buy out and squash some good companies like Bullfrog for instance. The only reason they keep certain companies must be for the name that comes behind it.
Normally in this day an age you feel that bigger companies like EA must have lost some of there soul when you actually sit down and play some of there games. I think only Bioware may still be in the good for now. I haven't played Dragon Age 2 but I haven't heard anything really good from it.
Not that my feelings toward them have changed much since then either. I'm going to pass on BF3. I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but I'm sure that I'll be disappointed in the community and DLC very quickly as well. SWTOR looks to be fun, but I'm still undecided. I want to hear more about the game, possible microtransactions, DLC, etc before I'd even consider buying it.
And Bioware is taking ten steps back for everyone one forward in my book.
Everyone seems to bash EA. What about microsoft games. They butchered their only good gaming division PC. What about sony and activision. How about nintendo and sega. Nintendo has been making the same 5 games since the 80s.
Dragon age 2 is no different than mass effect 2. it just wasnt implemented as well as the other.
I like Electronic Arts Games, I mostly like their Strategy Games like Red Alert 3 and etc.
Sim City 4 has its moments, not on the whole as good as 3 IMHO.
No, EA is off my list. EA Games Challenge Everything, especially my digestion.
EA means forget it.
True. However, when that includes:Super Mario Bros.Super Mario Bros. 3Super Mario WorldSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's IslandSuper Mario 64Super Mario GalaxySuper Mario Galaxy 2The Legend of ZeldaThe Legend of Zelda: A link to the PastThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeThe Legend of Zelda: Majora's MaskThe Legend of Zelda: Wind WakerThe Legend of Zelda: Spirit TracksPikminPikmin 2Luigi's MansionSmash Bros. BrawlThey're no longer in the league of EA Games.I'm ok with them throwing out a 'Phantom Hour Glass' and a 'Super Mario Sunshine' every few years. Shit, the N64 bought them enough good will to nearly overlook the Gamecube. Their franchises might be among some of the longest running in the history of gaming, but Nintendo have constantly delivered not only great games, but some of the greatest games ever made. They also innovate like no one else, which is why they're still here.
This guy right here has more creativity and innovation than Sony, Microsoft, EA Games, Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft's entire payroll rolled into a single collective intelligence. That's not being a fanboy; Shigeru Miyamoto is genius of the highest order, and is basically responsible for gaming as we know it. As long as he's still at Nintendo, they'll continue to be above the filth of this industry. The day he's gone, however, I weep for the house of Mario.
Seriously, EA Games aren't the only ones out there shipping bad games. Atari are just as bad if not worse.
In fact to be honest there's very few publishers out there that have a spotless record. The fact is, when you take many lines of code, a bunch of models and textures and stick them in a blender with bad working practices, you get bad software out. And that's assuming you end up with a product that can be sold.
Not that I am by any means a model for success, but the secret to good software is to make your software developers brilliant. Asking them to work on code that is well-documented is a bit like giving a teenager a bike with stabilisers. They need to be able to figure things out without necessarily understanding what they're looking at first. They need to be able to question what's already there, even in libraries that you consider to be tried and tested. Anyone can slave in front of a PC writing code, but the real work is understanding why code goes wrong and how to fix it.
