The Sins of a Solar Empire Multiplayer GalaxyForge Compilation is a project that I am spearheading on behalf of the community. This is a community effort, and not specifically my project. Our goal is to create a lean selection of popular galaxyforge maps for multiplayer, and encourage multiplayer gamers to download it. In order to achieve this, we're going to need contribution and collaboration between content creators and the multiplayer gamers who will be using the compilation.
Background
Sins shipped with approximately 50 premade maps available for singleplayer and multiplayer. However, most of these maps proved unsuitable or unpopular for multiplayer. Today, the vast majority of games played online use randomly generated maps. GalaxyForge maps have traditionally not been a viable alternative, since ICO does not support file transfer. This has left virtually no recourse for people seeking to play non-random maps in multiplayer.
The goal of the compilation project is to create a single standardized download with popular galaxyforge selections for multiplayer. We would encourage everyone who is active in the multiplayer community to download it. This would allow people to freely host from this selection of custom maps. The number of maps in the compilation would be approximately 30; enough to provide a great deal of variety, but not so much as to be overwhelming or to crowd the menu.
What Kind of Maps?
This is designed to be a multiplayer compilation, and as such we're looking for maps that would popular in multiplayer. This means reasonably sized (5-15 planets per player) and relatively well balanced. It should be the kind of map that doesn't take too long to complete. Really, so long as it's well designed it will be considered, but the key will be how the multiplayer testers receive it.
Stage 1 – Submissions
The first step in our plan is to have open submissions in which any map maker can submit their work for inclusion. We'd like you to restrict yourself to your ten best maps. If we get too many respondents, we may have to reduce the number of submissions allowed. I'm going to put up a tentative deadline of 11:59 PM September 30th (Pacific time) for submissions, but I may extend that if we're not yet ready to proceed to stage 2 at that time. If you have map preview images, you may submit them as well. To submit your work, just post in this thread and include a link to where we can download your maps.
Stage 2 – Comprehensive Release
We will release a beta version of our project with no more than 100 maps. We will then open a thread for discussion in which players can talk about multiplayer matches they had on specific maps and we can decide whether those maps are suitable for the final instalment. The stage 2 process will continue for some time until we have reduced the number of selected maps to approximately thirty.
Stage 3 – Final Compact Release
Once we've decided on our thirty maps (give or take), we'll make a formal release and encourage all active members in the multiplayer community to download it. We will continue to accept further submissions for consideration and in future versions may add new content, but this will otherwise be our final release. We will maintain both the Comprehensive and Compact release version into the future.
Thanks for your attention!
Close Encounters - OBS version
Optimized for observing, this map is sure to give everyone what they been looking for! To observe simply set your team number to 3, team 1 and 2 are the combatants. I suggest you either leave teams unlocked and share vision, or use surrender option to view the game.
I am offering my galaxy pack here.
harpo
Harpo, could you specify which ten of your maps you are submitting.
choose which ever fits best
You literally just dumped your entire galaxyforge folder on me, didn't you? That included several incomplete works.
I ended up picking only four maps. If you want to specify more, be my guest. The maps I chose were:
The main problem I had with most of your maps wasn't necessarily their large size (although, yes, most were overwhelmingly large) but rather that they railroad the player. There is only one direction to expand (occasionally two or three branches that later meet up anyways), and you have to clear planet after planet of militia (often 30 or 40 planets) before reaching the opponent. Phase lanes rarely branch, they just continue on and on forever and ever in a chain. Practically all your maps were identical in this fashion.
In all seriousness, though, have you actually played on all your maps? Most look like they'd take you well over 5 hours just to reach your opponent, let alone conquer them.
Well then I'll submit my 5v5Imperium Map. It can also be playeyd FFA or 2v2v2v2v2.

117 worlds. This map can be played slowly or quickly. All depends on the tactics you use.
It's not too large. It's a 5v5, you have about 12 planets per player. That's on the large size, but still well within the boundaries of the norm.
darvin I have actually played most of my maps over the last year and a half, but thoe you chose are amoung my older maps.
From me: http://uploading.com/files/198e9324/Hares%2Band%2BLions.zip/ These maps will eventually be available from the downloads section of this site, if the temporary download has expired.
Double Edge, 1v1, 25 planets
Preoccupation, 2v2, 30 planets
Schismatism, 2v2, 32 planets
Thank the Stars, 2v2, 32 planets
Cyclone, FFA, 2v2, 36 planets
Cast All The Dice, FFA, 2v2v2, 3v3, 51 planets
Hares and Lions, FFA, 3v3, 56 planets
Falconry, FFA, 2v2v2, 3v3, 59 planets
Deus Ex Machina, FFA, 3v3, 60 planets
Sun of the Joneses, FFA, 3v3, 60 planets
Good submissions so far, guys. I'd like to remind you that the submission deadline is in 60 hours. In light of the fact that we're so far from our maximum target, I'm going to lift the limitation on the number of submissions per person to 20. Unless we get a last-minute surge in entries I doubt we'll hit our maximum.
The new patch encouraged me to make a few more maps at the weekend: http://uploading.com/files/embbee86/The%2BCoronet.zip/ I wanted to make some smaller maps for shorter games, though without obvious rushes . I hadn't created any multisystem maps yet, either, and I wanted to make a 5 player FFA map just for the times when you're one short and prefer to avoid a skewed 6 player random map.
Golden Veil: 1v1, 23 planets
Duke's Walk: 3v3, 36 planets
Odds and Ends: 3v3, 46 planets
The Coronet: FFA (five players), 60 planets
Just a reminder that there are 29 hours left to make a submission.
No Frills
I made this map cause we seem to have shortage of submissions, and it felt like a map I always wanted. This edition is 6 player only, but future editions might expand. Basically you get nothing fancy as the name implies, just a plain old system to start with. After that you aare on your own!
edit: Hold on I have to fix this map up seems to be a slight bug with starting upgrades for home planets!
Yeah, the default starting upgrades in galaxyforge are incorrect, so you have to adjust them. The galaxyforge default starts you (on quickstart) with maxed out logistics, tactical, and planet health, but leaves you only with 3/4 population upgrades. In other words, what should be maxed out isn't, and everything that shouldn't be maxed out is. Very annoying.
Also... just a heads up, we already have plenty of 3v3 submissions but virtually no 4v4 and 5v5 submissions. It's so bad I've actually created new 4v4 and 5v5 maps just to fill out the roster.
DAMN ok I will hold off with this map till next submission then :/ I'll up it to a 5v5/ffa
Don't be afraid to submit stuff just because we already have lots of 3's maps. We're far from reaching our hard maximum.
Including my own submissions and DirtySanchez' map pack (which I will consider submitted due to the fact that he expressed interest earlier), we have 49 maps currently. The breakdown is as follows:
Due to the fact that I'm still waiting on the map installer software from a friend, I'm extending the deadline. One way or another the stage 2 release will happen on Friday, but I'll continue to accept any submissions up until I set up the installer file.
I don't have the installer yet, but seeing as it's Friday I want to get the map pack out. We have fifty maps in total currently;
http://www.rtscommunity.com/mw/map.php?itemid=245&game=26
I just want to bring this forum to the top to get the status on the installer. I am having issues on the XP user; C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge
I get to ironclad games sins then its empty or something..... and its show all (invisible folders) so the installer would make me happy!
edit found installer on noticed it was vista and placed into the correct user file..... there are a few HP admin admin so I put it in all of them and got a hit stupid wifes computer.
Also I am looking for a turtle map? Something where I can bottleneck my empire so I dont have to fight 3 to 5 different fronts for a main cluster of bases (i.E.) implosion I have to fight 2 different fronts and its me vs 7 hard AI's and locked teams..... I get a bit spread thin.
Any maps with 10 players would also be nice
I invoke the dead and summon thee!
Errr..what's a currently good place/way to submit a new map?
How's about let's revive this project? Or restart it if it's gone; there's tons of people who have good maps out there, and there are also others who say that Sins lacks a good place/way for people to get more maps.
I'll second that...since I already firsted it.
The download/upload section of this site works well these days. It is still disguised by the tag 'media' but I suppose anyone who has GalaxyForge knows where it is! It seems unfortunate that the original multiplayer compilation never made it to the official site.
However it is possibly the wrong time for a revival, with a new version of GalaxyForge imminent it might be better to wait for that to begin a new compilation? If there are new maps just upload here and start a thread- you can even reuse the picture you submit to this site in your text, no need for a third party image host.
Darn if the man doesn't make sense.
What the heck am I reading? The GalaxyForge's status of maintenance does not have any bearing on whether a map is playable or good. Why should we wait for the new GalaxyForge when that has absolutely no impact on the maps themselves?
