Hi everyone, finally found the site, and i was wondering just how similar to Master of Magic Elemental will be? Will it have heroes, the same kind of character creation? and the same kind of spell system?
Thanks
That's it...you forced my hand. I told you what would happen didn't I...didn't I? Just remember Boogie...you asked for this...

I'm just relieved that any games Stardock releases aren't abandoned. I think that the longevity of Elemental will facilitate all the good features from previous fantasy strategy games. It'll never replace the memory of good times with MOM, because it was the first solid game of it's kind.
I remember when I first played GalCiv2 and thought, "This is no MOO2..." After playing it, I really enjoyed the game and stopped thinking how the game can beat the best memories of an older game.
It's a good thing Stardock really values it's community. The community has limitless ideas, however most of the ideas probably aren't good ideas or feasible from a time/money standpoint. Expansions solve the latter.
One thing I haven't seen yet that I did like about MOM was the music when you casted a world spell in the overview screen. For me it added the "magic" to the magic. It such a small detail, but it's the little details like that which really take games over the top.
I am more concerned about how it will stack up versus Age of Wonders:SM. I felt AoW:SM was a bit better game in alot of areas than MoM. (But I could be biased since alot of the DnD gaming groups I was in at the time played it religously... so don't flame me)
From what I have read so far, It seems to be a cross with AoW's system where you have one "soveriegn" unit that if defeated, you are defeated. However, without any resurrection or respawn. Good Thing!
I do not like only having human - based races. Yeah, I know this can be modded in. But still, modding in is NOT the same as having this in game from the start. A fantasy strategy has tradition to follow! Could be Bad Thing
However, this is a game on my "watch" list. As more news comes out, who knows..
Why? I mean, it would be nice to have a fantasy game that doesn't follow all the existing traditions and really tries to do it's own thing. There are plans for 12 different factions using two races, that should be enough to start with I think.
I suppose you do have a point. I have since read a post by one of the Devs (frog, I think) who stated that there really has not been a serious effort to build a fantasy wargame from scratch in many years and that they need not be tied down to legacy. I have also since posting last done alot more research into Elemental and like the majority of where they want to send the game. I had originally wanted an Age of Wonders 3 or at least a spiritual successor. But, in my search, I have come across a project that shows alot of promise if done right. I will take your advice and put the past and expectations based on the past behind and look at the new and innovative.
I still kind of wanted dwarves, elves, lizardmen, goblins, ect in my choose race menu, but I will reserve my judgements next time till I truly see where the game is heading!
