I'm currently running Vista 64bit. My PC is having issues and I need to wipe the drive and do a fresh OS install. At this point I'm not sure if I'm going to reinstall Vista or load the Windows 7 RC.
I have most of the Object Desktop software downloaded and archived, but I'm having a few problems getting the last few programs. I am also not sure where these archives are and how I can back them up to reinstall on my fresh Windows install. So, I've got the following questions...
- I cannot "Download and archive" the following programs: Tweak 7, Desktop Gadgets, IconX, Bootskin (not Bootskin Vista). How can I download these to reinstall later? Is there a link directly to these applications?
- Once I have all the software downloaded and archived, what do I need to backup to keep these programs before formatting the hard drive?
- Do I need to do anything special in Impulse to reinstall these programs from my backup location?
This has all been attempted using the latest and greatest version of Impulse.
Thanks!
i forget what it's called - impulse to go or something
basically you can't download what won't run on the os you on
i'm on xp and i can't download and archive logonstudiovista - won't let me
but with the other (impulse to go) - you're supposed to be able to download and archive (with another impulse archive) all your apps - stick them on removable media - put that into the computer you want them on - then use the downloaded impulse to restore those applications -- and it's supposed to not care which os you started and ended up with
Well... I've been dealing with Stardock support for several days and I still don't know where archives are stored on my PC.
My subscription runs out in a few days and Stardock is doing their best to make sure that I do NOT have access to the software after that time.
Can someone simply tell me:
- What directories do I need to backup to save all the "downloaded and archived" software, so I can reinstall Impulse later and get my software back.
- Where are my registrations kept so I can back them up? Is there a single page somewhere showing my various registration codes for the My Colors themes, my Object desktop software registrations, etc.?
To get to your Impulse archives, open up Impulse and then hold the shift key and click on the blue ? circle in the upper right. Choose 'Open Impulse ProgramData folder'. The 'Backup' folder will have all of the .Impulse files.
As for your registrations, visit this page https://www.stardock.com/support/ and enter your email to have all of them sent to you.
Muchos gracias por favor! Just what I was looking for!
Between this and Impulse Anywhere I finally have a complete copy of all the software my subscription gives me access to.
Thanks again guys!
/Impulse AnyWhere, Impulse Anywhere , I gotta write that down somewhere...
Well... PC is finally just acting up too much.
I'll be formatting the PC and installing Windows 7.
Wish me luck. Hope I have no problems reinstalling my backups!
FWIW, I'm trying to restore Tweak 7... I've tried other application .impulse files with the same results.
You should have no issues but if you do, let us know and we will sort it out.
*sigh*
Just as I thought... In Impulse, I click the menu, choose to "restore archive", open the .impusle file and it simply says "The archive could not be restored".
What application were you trying to restore? Click the blue ? in the upper right of Impulse and choose 'View error log'. Scroll to the bottom and copy and paste the line referring to the archive restore in your reply here.
