The reason i wanted to start this thread, is simple. I see alot of OT posts that elude to the individual factions culture and political views and motives. I felt it was about time, the community as a whole had a foundation to base its ideas off of when it came to SoaSE Vasari Lore. Not just abunch of rambling opinions, but something logical that could dismiss alot of the ludicrous ideas behind the Vasari and their behavior.
My personal belief, is that 10,000 yrs ago. The Vasari, which very well has been around conquering planets LONG before 10,000 yrs ago. Arent much for one on one contact with any other races. Long before their Exodus, they must of decided any land based attacks were illogical and too costly. By simply showing a reasonable amount of force (somekind of bombardment meant to only shock and awe the populace into the belief they were outgunned) from the safety of their ships. By doing this they could convince the "lesser races" to come under Vasari rule with little to no resistance. This meant little waste of resources when it came to races extremely inferior to their own. As well maximum production of any resources the planet might wield. With a whole planet of non Vasari slaves. This meant the Vasari as a whole was freed to continue their "beloved" conquest of the known galaxy.
While nothing is truly known about their History before 10,000 ago. An unfortunate result of being on the run for 10 millenia (have no clue what that would be called) The Vasari themselves may very well no longer have any solid history to go on. Only old and outdated logs that showed how powerful and mighty their race once was prior to the cataclysm that struck them at the beginning of their exodus. As well time honored traditions, that again, they may not truely know the meaning to but still continue to perform them out of fear of losing their heritage.
As Im not a developer, I cant really say much about what truely chased the Vasari from their Empire. What I can say is what logically it is not. It cant possibly be a virus of somesort. As any virus would be hard to spread from ship to ship with no actual physical or atmospheric interactions between ships. A big hint here is the recalling of the Dark Fleet to confront this unknown enemy. The entire Dark Fleet accept for one vessel disappeared entirely. This vessel returned heavily damaged (making it painfully obvious the enemy of somekind of humanoid species with ships and weapons) which rules out a virus.
Another idea may be that its a "space maddness" being that the Vasari for the most part aside from their homeworld resided in ships their entire lives (may not be entirely true) That a prolonged exposure to a lessened amount of gravity could cause some kindof pyschiatric issues is plausable. This "Space Maddened" Vasari may turn on their counterparts and attack without provocation. But again this logically couldnt be the answer. As the current generation of Vasari would have never made it to TEC held space. Theyve been on the run for 10,000 years and most likely the "space maddness" would have overtaken them long before they escaped their own Empire. As well another clue as to what this unknown enemy is not is the beacons left behind by the Vasari. Slowly going quiet, tells us that the enemy is of an intellegent design. And are either following the Vasari out of vengence or has a more logical reasoning to it. Following resources (very much like the Vasari would have) to continue its growth.
Now as to why the Vasari are now in a stalemate with the TEC and being smashed by the Advent.
Many people believe that the Vasari couldnt possibly stay the same over the course of 10,000 yrs even on the run. I agree, to a degree though. Take the real Human race for example. Many times throughout our existance, we have set our own selves back hundreds if not thousands of years. Simply cause we get arrogant or complacent. This may not be entirely true to the Vasari. But if they are of intellegent design, as they are intend to be. Then they have all the same shortcomings of a Human. Their emotions and stout belief in being supierior could very well be used against themselves. For the most part, the Vasari wouldnt be worried about great bounds and leaps in technology (aside from tech that could get them far far away from their pursuers) they were looking to start over. As well most technology would have been developed on land (trying to create a WMD onboard an Evacuator might not be the best of all ideas) which they wouldnt spend much time on. Being they had become used to life on a ship and they only wanted to stick around long enough to get their resources and haul ass.
When they fled from their Empire, their goal wasnt to fight whatever was after them. They surely believed there was nothing to do but run. Especially after their most prized fleet was lost to this unknown enemy. So instead of staying and dying like the rest, they fled. Which means they hoped they would be able to get away from what ever it is and reestablish themselves. They didnt want to fight this thing, The Vasari for all their Conquering had become fearful of anything that actually could hold its on in a fight with them. They were too used to the idea of swatting at other races like flies. Their arrogance and complacency was their undoing.
The Vasari while cocky and sometimes over enthralled with themselves, arent stupid and just by observing their technology shows their extreme levels of logic. They would have plotted a course for systems that were high in resources but most likely uninhabited. This would give them more time to gather the resources needed and take the fighting out of the equation. But conquering was in their blood so to speak. And werent foolish enough to allow their weapons to degrade or become nonfunctional. Especially if the unknown enemy was to catch up to them. Surely wether they liked it or not. They would have to fight it. And with the beacons going silent one by one. They knew this enemy was not going to stop until they were dead.
This is where the TEC come in. Humans are greedy, and money is on top of their lists of favorites. TO would have spanned out to as many systems rich in resources. Mostlikely ignoring the ones where more money would have been wasted then made. This set them on a collision course with the Vasari. The Vasari, wouldnt be looking for a fight. Their new objective is to gather and evade. And this would send them into systems where production of needed resources would have been higher. Totally ignoring the same systems the TO would have overlooked and eventually making contact with TO.
The Conquers in the Vasari would have immediately came out. Realizing they couldnt go around this new species. And actually be able to find sufficient amounts of metal and crystal needed to sustain their Exodus Fleet. They would have observed the TO before striking. Not making the same mistake they had 10,000 yrs prior they would have realized the TO was nothing more then a semi-peaceful economic civilization. And without actual battleships and frigates, the TO would be just another species to fall to the Vasari. As well this may very well boost the morale of the overall fleet, giving them the feeling that even 10,000 yrs on the run couldnt dull the Vasari's abilities to conquer. That surely played into the reasoning for the Vasari to play its cards and gamble it could conquer the TO before its pursuers could catch up.
But again the Overconfidence the Vasari had in themselves put them in a situation they couldnt just back out of. Once the fighting started their was no turning back. At first the Vasari swept the TO colonies with ease, but when actual Capital ships and actual cruisers and frigates confronted them. It quickly turned the tide. The Vasari have wasted too much effort and time in this war with the TEC. And backing off would leave them with no resources to get them back on the run.
And now with another highly developed race the Advent entering the picture. A race that is atleast 1000 yrs technologicly ahead of the TEC. As well their civilization is oriented towards war. The Vasari is now stuck in a three way war. And their pursuers are just on the horizon.
While the Devs may deny ever thinking of adding another race. Its quite obvious they did. The game itself talks about the Vasari's unknown enemy quickly catching up. Which means in a later expansion, this new race may be added.
But aside from my very long summary of the Vasari's motives and views in this game. Id like to hear from others as to what possibly could be a Out of touch Warrior race as the Vasari's culture and beliefs. I highly doubt they are religious, but it could answer the question of whats held them together for so long on the run. It might also answer why they feel so Superior to others and why they feel entitled to ruling all of known space. Please voice your opinions and please stick to the already written in stone lore of the games intro summaries of the three races. Id like this to stay logical and productive.
EDIT:
Vasari Summary from the Manuel
THE VASARI EMPIRE
The ancient Vasari Empire once ruled over countless worlds. Beginning at the galactic core, the empire expanded uniformily, and brought hundreds of alien races under its control. While most of the species the Vasari encountered were primitive and peacefully subjugated, more advanced civilizations were harshly enslaved. Once conquered, these species were integrated into Vasari society as "valued citizens," giving them minimal standing in the Empire. Each world was then locked down and ruled from vast orbital structures in order to minimize the chance of rebellion.
As with all empires, the Vasari civilization's fall began from within. Ten thousand years ago the inner worlds of the empire fell suddenly silent. Expecting nothing more than rebellion by the local species, a local wing of the Dark Fleet was sent to restore order, but no status reports were ever recieved. Soon three more planets fell silent off the communications grid, and while Internal Intelligence deliberated on the response of what could only be the work of traitors, several more worlds went dark - including the ancient Vasari homeworld.
The rate of expansion of this unknown enemy was astonishing, far exceeding even that of the entire Dark Fleet! As a last resort, the Dark Fleet Veerr brought the bulk of their forces back from the expansionary frontier for a blind assault on whatever was eating its way out of the empire's core worlds. When a single, heavily damaged warship from the Dark Fleet appeared out of phase space in orbit of a planet on the empire's perimeter, the inhabitants decided to board the ship. What they found were the remains of a once battle-hardened crew driven mad with fear.
In a rare act of autonomy, the colony made the decision to evacuate to a system far from the Empire. It would prove to be the last time they would ever see Vasari space. For the next 10,000 years the Vasari refugee fleet travelled from system to system, dropping warning beacons on their way, spending only enough time to replenish their resources before moving on. No matter how far the Vasari travel, their warning beacons fall silent; their unknown adversary continues its march toward their extermination.
SHIP TYPES
Jikara Navigator As the Vasari continue their long trek through space, it‘s the Jakaras that lead the way to safety. However, the Jakara is also used for quick strikes against unsuspecting mining installations and houses strike teams that can be deployed to capture enemy assets. Should it encounter enemy forces alone in unknown space, its unique Phasic Cloaking device can be used to either hide and observe enemy maneuvers or to avoid weapons fire, thereby giving it a high survivability without any support from the Exodus Fleet. Ravastra Skirmisher Ravastra Skirmisher‘s combine speed with power to create a deadly close-range combat vessel. Heavily armored, the Ravastra can withstand a great deal of punishment for its size but is still nearly as nimble as the Jikara. Its ability to withstand punishment is further enhanced once it enters its Reintegration repair cycle, where both engines and weapon systems are shut down in order to quickly regenerate its hull. Given its high speed, survivability and relatively low resource cost, the Ravastra was also determined to be the most suited to striking deep into the enemy‘s fleet during combat in order to activate interference devices that restrict the use of antimatter. Kanrak Assailant Equipped with a long-range torpedo launcher, the Kanrak has been designed to eliminate both stationary and mobile targets from a safe distance. Depending on the importance of the target and the overall tactical situation, Kanrak commanders may decide to channel power from the ship‘s engine system into its missile‘s warhead, granting the vessel increased weapons range and an area of effect attack at the expense of mobility. Karrastra Destructor While of only minimal use in ship-to-ship combat, the Karrastra‘s true purpose lies in planetary bombardment which it accomplishes with ease. Not many Karrastra‘s were present in the original Exodus Fleet and almost none were constructed until over a year into the war with the Traders. Previous engagements at scheduled resource acquisition drops required next to no siege capabilities and no future need was anticipated. Production rates have increased dramatically since. Junsurak Sentinel Equipped with fore and aft anti-strikecraft phase missile launchers, the Junsurak is deceptively adept at dealing with both enemy squadrons and vessels. Not only are its missiles effectively impossible to outmaneuver, but they can also be upgraded to use the same area of effect Charged Missile technology of the Kanrak Assailant, allowing the Junsurak to clear dense clouds of enemy strikecraft at the cost of mobility. Jarun Migrator As one of the largest frigates known to exist, the Jarun safely ferries civilians critical to the survival of the Vasari species and experienced xeno administrators between the stars. The Jarun is extremely vulnerable to enemy attack and must be carefully guarded. Lasurak Transporter Light fighter and bomber support for Vasari fleets is provided by the Lasurak Transporter. Capable of fielding one squadron, the Lasurak is capable of launching its forces deeper into an enemy‘s gravity well than one might think, thanks to its relatively strong shields and structure. Stilakus Subverter Stilakus Subverters are best used in combination with other ships making use of phase missile technology. While only lightly armed themselves, the Stilakus‘ are equipped with powerful phase manipulator fields that have a twofold effect: The first is a weakening of enemy shields, greatly lowering their shield mitigation and making them more easily bypassed by phase missiles; the other is the ability to create a distortion field within the gravity well. This field allows the Stilakus to perform an in-grav phase jump, teleporting it towards an enemy target before it channels a disabling field of energy. Serevun Overseer The Serevun Overseer is an advanced ship of the Vasari fleet, that earns its name for two reasons: by being able to detect incoming starships and by protecting the fleet. When enemy ships are detected, a Serevun may decide to activate its Jump Degradation technology to delay the incoming forces. To protect the fleet during combat, the Serevun can manufacture and deploy Reactive Nanite Armor which forms a hardened armor layer around the target, with the added benefit of improved structural integrity. Many Overseers have been intentionally left behind in the wake of the Exodus Fleet as another attempt to serve as an early warning system, and potential delaying mechanism for the unknown threat. There has yet to be any reports aside from those that were placed prior to entering Trader Space. Skarovas Enforcer As the most powerful direct combat ship in the Vasari Empire before reaching capital ships, the Skarovas is armed and armored for a fight. Utilizing twin heavy plasma wave cannons, this heavy cruiser is able to destroy many enemy vessels before needing to withdraw. Like its smaller cousin, the Ravastra Skirmisher, the Skarovas support Reintegration technology and inertial fields that slow nearby targets, allowing Skarovas to keep enemies in range of their dual plasma wave cannons. Kortul Devastator Like many ships in the Vasari fleet, the Kortul doubles as both a warship and a home for the remnants of the empire. As the lead assault class vessel, the Kortul has a number of defensive system that grant it impressive survivability in battle, which combined with a full complement of heavy weapons make it a force to be reckoned with. In the days of the Empire, Kortuls formed the backbone of every Wing of the Dark Fleet, and while the Exodus Fleet pales in comparison, the Kortuls perform much the same function with one exception: they no longer carry Variments of shock troopers. Skirantra Carrier Nanotechnology is put to use in some form in nearly every Vasari design, but few utilize it as pervasively as Skirantra Carriers. Through some of their subsystems may be obsolete by Vasari standards, that makes them no less feared by fledgling civilizations. Large banks of Matter Compilers allow Skirantras to generate many varieties of nanites at a staggering rate, granting them enormous flexibility in how best to support allied forces. Jarrasul Evacuator The Jarrasul Evacutor is the largest capital ship known to exist in the galaxy and is truly a city in space. The Vasari rarely established surface colonies on occupied worlds, preferring instead to rule from orbit in these floating cities. The Jarrasul has been modified greatly during the exodus to serve the needs of the fleet. Its giant frontal maw can rip apart planets from orbit, inspiring both terror and utter destruction against its enemies. Antorak Marauder Despite a technological advantage, the Vasari Exodus Fleet strongly favors guerilla warfare tactics to make the most of its relatively few starships. Quickly blitzing unwary targets already softened by sabotage is a cornerstone of this strategy. The Antorak is perfectly suited for assisting in such a strike, boasting abilities to both incapacitate the enemy and swiftly bring in reinforcements. Vulkoras Desolator Few ships in the galaxy can match the destructive potential of the Vulkoras. Both enemy forces and planets alike quickly fall before its banks of heavy phase missile launchers and deployable siege batteries. Such offensive power comes at a price, however—the Vulkoras relies on supporting ships to deal with specific threats like strikecraft more so than any other Vasari capital ship.

Karrastra Destructor
While of only minimal use in ship-to-ship combat, the Karrastra‘s true purpose lies in planetary bombardment which it accomplishes with ease.
There is no reference of the Vasari even having genders in the first place so just because the Vasari have cloning upgrades, this doesn't mean that Vasari women are unlikely to exist. Relying entirely on cloning is a bad thing becuase if all individuals are genetically identical then they are more vulnerable to disease. Cloning techniques actually require a female for the embryo to grow in unless they have artificial incubators. Even if they no longer reproduced naturally, I see no reason why they would only clone males.
I don't think that the thing chasing the Vasari is an intelligent nanite cloud. What seems more likely to me is that the thing chasing the Vasari actually predates the Vasari. The lore says that the Vasari created this thing. Maybe they actually ressurected it and modified it or something.
Whoever made the in-game artefacts seem to haver been wiped out by this thing even earlier then the Vasari Empire. The technology of the artefacts seems unique. None of the factions use "Organic AI" for example. The artefact makers are gone.
While fleeing, the Vasari found the phase space inhibitors and copied them. However, the lore states that PJIs were found in uninhabited grav-wells. This implies that the builders were trying to slow something down while escaping.
This all points to the idea that this is not the first time that a destructive force has chased and tried to destroy a sentient race.
JuleTron for point that out. I totaly forgot about the PJI.
wow! never even occured to me. thats a
I think we all agree, we have completely forgotten about the artifacts...
Well, let's rattle em off...
Resilient Metaloids
Power Core
Wow... I seriously can't remember the actual names of the others... I know what they do and the images with them, just not their technical names...
At any rate, this race would have been incredibly intelligent. After all, they created PJI's. Something no other race achieved by themselves. This probably means that there is some fossil of a technology at the center of the galaxy. Perhaps like the Inhibitors in Revelation Space or something created by the super race I will henceforth call, "Provectiens" (from the latin provectus meaning advanced and sapiens meaning wise).
Most likely, they were the first creators of phase travel and could travel not just between some stars but between any stars. Also, they would have created fully sentient AI's that could research for them and they themselves may actually have split into subspecies. Each of these would be genetically modified to fit certain tasks. Also, they would have likely had a significant chunk of their population as robotic rather than biological. Not just as slaves, but fully sentient metallic beings.
Now, at some point, some artificial planet designed to create more advanced nanites than before. At some point, there was likely a form of super-nanite that could do more than any before it, making its use inevitable. However, upon release into the world of the Provecs, it changed somehow. Perhaps it had a bug, perhaps it wasn't. Regardless, it began exterminating the race that created it. To remedy this, the Provectiens created Phase Jump Inhibitors to slow their enemies while they fell back to one of the arms of the galaxy. As the nanites grew ever closer, the Provecs discovered what they wanted. They discovered a was to travel faster than phase travel, and over much longer distances. A way to travel between galaxies. They proceeded to evacuate all of their civilization and destroy the gates that allowed transit.
Without the Provectiens, the nanites fell back and entered a form of hybernation.
Along came the Vasari. As they explored, they discovered artifacts and eventually came across the dormant nanites. Using the same programming, they adapted them to meet their needs. I think you can guess the rest...
Note: I am only using nanites as an example here. Really, you could pick other stuff, but it was just something to act as a filler...
And whos to say that the makers of the PJI and artifacts are the same race? It could be that each artifact was from a seperate race and why you dont find all these arifacts in the same system or planet.
A whole confederation of ancient civilizations that all disappeared from this same enemy thousands or millions of years ago? Maybe some would have been completely wiped out by the nanite cloud or whatever it'll be, and others (maybe only one?) escaped. Some good thoughts.
Better yet, in the past there were many different races and some of them had created powerful weapons and the Vasari found one and activated it
Thanks for the support guys! Much appreciated.
This enemy may be nano-technological in nature. The reason why I thought that the enemy wasn't nanites was because the Vasari make nanites and the enemy seems to have non-Vasari origins. If the artefact-makers originally made nanites, then that changes things. However, it may not be nanites so who knows. . .
This seems the most likely. The Vasari took 10 000 years to reach the TEC's empire. How could a single ancient empire rule a nation that takes 10 000 years to cross? It seems more likely to me that there were several ancient races. The Provectiens were just one among many.
And in Sins 2, they return with a vengeance. Great ideas here.
Yeah.. I suppose nanites actually could themselves be a remnant of another race and the Vasari just discovered the bug in them...
True. An alliance is quite possible. Though while it existed before, I still think that races within it were either destroyed or escaped with some form of travel that would be infinitely faster than light such as the use of wormholes.
So, in a sequel, we could see what is chasing the Vasari and possibly some Atlantian (if I may use a 7DS race for an example) like Provectiens... I tend to turtle when not using Vasari, so this will be very fun...
For all we know the races the Vasari enslaved were the ancient creators of some of the different technologies that the Vasari utilize. In the past wars left these races using rocks and sticks to fight. The Vasari come along enslave them and then while excavauting an area on the planet discovered these different technologies and integrated them. The fact that the PJI is the same no matter what faction tells you that most likely it came from the same creators as neither of the three Factions have advanced the technology or even recreated it to fit their own agenda which hints that they dont truely understand everything about the PJI's and just simply fabricate it after reverse engineering the original they found. Maybe the Provectiens were on the run just like the Vasari, maybe the PJI's were meant to do more then what its used for currently but because its so far ahead of any of the three factions, no one can figure it out yet.
Another thought is that if whatever is chasing the Vasari now was what chased the Provectiens then maybe the Provectiens survived and are out there somewhere, considering that whatever it is thats out there, had to be rediscovered for it to become a force in the universe again, meaning that prehaps it was defeated. But for some reason the Provectiens moved on to another part of the universe. Maybe this "darkness" didnt just want Provectien blood but anything that got in its way. The Provectiens feeling guilty of what they unleashed on the universe went into seclusion to keep themselves and their dangerous technology out of reach and sight of the "lesser" races. But unfortunately when your empire spans entire system clusters, you cant successfully wipe out absolutely every trace of yourself. Artifacts would have been scattered everywheres and it would be inevitable that another sentient race would stumble or purposefully find these technologies.
Whatever is chasing the Vasari, its fast, and probably capable of fabricating more of itself within hours and a short few days instead of the weeks and months it would take the TEC, Vasari, and Advent. Im guessing it be hard for a cloud of nanites to transverse phase space considering the amount of energy it would take. But if those nanites combined to form a functional vessel capable of carrying the nanites as a whole theyd beable to replicate an antimatter core. Being that they were created by a far more advanced race then the Vasari they'd probably have the ability to transverse the phaselanes in half the time anyone else can currently. Maybe they'd even take on an organic form that resembled their creators being of flesh and bone but be capable of almost instantanious healing to wounds that would surely mean death for Humans or Vasari.
I agree with Allegiance.
The PJI's likely do have some other function than what is mentioned. They are after all one of the largest structures and can easily dwarf even the largest frigates. That does perhaps mean that while they can inhibit phase jumping, they could also have the ability in general to warp-space time. Really it depends on how phase space works. We can assume however that to do such a thing, you have to make sure that planets are aligned in such a way as to use their gravity to throw off your jump. This means that PJI's most likely warp space-time around targeted objects. Now, while this can be used to slow PJing, it could also be used as a weapon, perhaps even reducing a ship to a small black hole. That is a weapon.
I'm thinking that they left due to their technology running amuck... Since then, they probably became very secretive and will no longer interact with other races. This does give me an idea though... Perhaps they were not the problem. Perhaps they gave their hyper-advanced technology to others to be generous and those inferior races were the ones that corrupted it and turned it against the Provetiens. Perhaps this inferior race was the Vasari. Perhaps the Provectiens gave the newly discovered Vasari the technology to create super-nanites that could work faster and function in any number of ways. Due to the nature of the Vasari, they wished to turn it into a weapon in the weapons lab on Kron. On that day, they changed the code of the nanites, but the abilities the nanites had were the same. Instead of repairing ships, they began to destroy them. Instead of healing wounds, they began to make them deeper. Instead of mining for ore, they ate planets. And that started the running of the Vasari.
Obviously the Provectiens wanted to stop the process, but could likely only fight the nanites one-for-one, yielding no clear winner. As a response, the Provectiens created the Tutero (from the latin "attero" meaning destroy and "tutela" meaning guard), a monstrous machine capable of yanking areas of space clean out of the universe. This three-armed machine would hover in orbit around a planet and would wait for enemy vessels to come within a 16000 kilometers of it before unleashing its awesome power on entire fleets.
As the Provectiens fled to another galaxy due to the shame of having destroyed the Vasari race (or so they thought) by attempting to be generous, they left behind defunct tuteros that were eventually discovered by the Vasari. Now, though they did not know how they worked, they Vasari did discover that they could aim it at ships and could prevent them from jumping out of the system. For this reason, they called them Phase Jump Inhibitors. The same applies to the Advent and TEC (which likely discovered the tuteros before splitting a thousand years ago...)
As for being a nanite cloud. I don't think it would be much of a cloud. Think giant space-borne metallic organism. The nanites would more or less be alive. After all, they fit every qualification of it minus the genetic code. As the colony of nanites grew, it became self-aware and sentient. As it continued to expand, it began to have interests and goals until it had enough that it could begin to fulfill those goals when it found a ship in a hangar bay on the Kron laboratory. It infected that ship and then recreated it. Now, the Vasari thought that by self-destructing the laboratory, they could stop the infection, but that one ship escaped the destruction of the rest.
It proceeded to dock on board a capital ship and continued the infection. With nanites already in the ship, it merely rewrote the code of the nanites on board as it met them, quickly conscripting an army. Within days, the nanites had consumed the Kortul and in the process had gained information about how it worked. It had discovered phase technology. By reforming into the Kortul, it left Kron and went to another central world. That world was also infected until a small fleet was assembled of the nanites.
With more and more worlds falling silent, the Vasari dispatched the Dark Fleet to deal with the problem. Unfortunately, it is hard to shoot at something that can just reform after being hit. All the nanites had to do was hit a few shots home on the enemy vessels before the infection would take hold and would win another ship for the nanite fleet. One Kortul survived though. Taking only one shot from an enemy fighter, it was able to stop the infection with only part of its hull destroyed. As it was, it limped back to another world where other Vasari found it and the crew driven mad from having seen each other and the ship they lived on attempt to absorb them into one single cohesive entity.
What do you guys think? Seems to make sense. If you are wondering about the form I used, each one was a bit of a story, but the double spaces represented addressing a different paragraph of Allegiance's post...
Btw, we need to call the nanites something so we can refer to them without having to clarify which nanites we are talking about...
LOL, One ring, I mean nanite to rule them all!!!!
Edit: On the aritifacts and such, there is no way to tell if they came from just one race or several. I say for all we know there could of been a giant galatic battle between several faction before our current one showed up.
Im gonna also have to agree that the Vasari were experimenting with a found artifact of some kind, experiment went wrong and now they are where they are at.
Ehh... I like the idea of the Provecs being nice and giving them a gift that they used to destroy themselves, but oh well... Either idea makes sense/works...
Yes your right, sorry I just had a mental picture of Lord of the Rings space style with all these talks of different nanties.
i was just thinking that Volt. while we cant be sure what this "pursuer" truely is but we do know its out there and shows intellegence. It atleast needs a code name better then just the "darkness" something that fits it better. The Nanite theory sticks. Just think the Nanites wouldnt need large fleets to engage planets or Vasari Fleets. It would just need a small Task Group of 10-20 Nanite Ships to jump in launch their Nanite clouds and jump out. The nanites left behind would surely take over any structure or ship with in range ( targetting essential defense platforms and ships) those platforms and ships would then be used to turn on whats left in the GW and eventually take over the planet. While the Task Group moves to the next GW and so on. This would mean theyd be able to spread a hell of a lot faster and would explain how entire systems would go silent almost instantaniously. All the while scaring the living hell out of the Vasari in the outer reaches of their empire. If the Nanite ships took the shape of Vasari vessels it would mean the planet defenses wouldnt even attempt to defend the planet. By the time they realized they had billions of nanites attacking their ships and structures the Task Group would have jumped out and it be far to late to do anything about it.
Lesson learned here, Just because your a peaceful race (Provectiens) doesnt mean you should share all your knowledge. Especially with races that arent at your level of thought yet.
pretty much...
Actually, if you want to throw a little Vasari myth in here, it could be possible that the Provectiens created the Vasari, so as far as the Vasari are concerned, the Provecs are the Spirits... I don't know.. Just a thought... It would give the Provecs a reason to trust the Vas though...
Eh, IMO throwing in new races is jumping the gun.
Technically were not throwing in new races were debating on some of the possibilities of how the Vasari came to utilize the different technologies they implement during combat.
Well, I was kinda throwing in the Provecs, but only into lore, although seeing them and a giant nanite army in Sins II would be cool... This is only about lore, there are other threads that speak of Sins II...
Honestly, I'd vote for good old fashioned developement. About 10,000 years prior to the date this game takes place, the Vasari ruled an empire spanning "countless" worlds, and only a few of those ever presented any challenge in the conquest. That says to me that they were far more advanced technologically than anyone else in their area (the galactic core, apparently). Also, nanotechnology isn't something you can just be handed and expected to understand and continue innovation of... it's really very complex, and understanding has to come from the ground up - miniaturization is one of the hardest technological aspects to master. Not to mention that I doubt they would have managed to beat any race that was using extensive nanotech against them if they did not have the same.
The only technology we know they've appropriated is the PJI. And as for the whole general stagnation of their technology over the last 10,000 years... well, they haven't needed to advance it, and they are a race of refugees - I'm sure they didn't manage to pick up all of the best minds in their scramble to gtfo of dodge. None the less, they have managed to make new ship designs along the way and extensively modify some existing designs - and generate entirely new designs/technologies just within the last 25 years fighting the TEC (and I suppose the Advent). Here's hoping their technological developement continues to advance at a good pace!
I just really don't like the thought of trying to make the Vasari owe something to anyone... because as it stands, they ARE the ancient 'master' race of the galaxy... they are just in decline (think along the lines of the Eastern Roman Empire in the middle ages). I'm not saying there shouldn't be other badass ancient races flying around, I just don't think the Vasari should owe them jack shit but an orbital lockdown and a pulsegun leveled at their heads.
-Itharus
Well, I wasn't trying to make it look that way... It was just something that I wasn't particularly fond of, but just popped into my head...
Really the idea that I do like is that the Provectiens gave the Vasari something as a sign of friendship which the Vasari tried to weaponize that failed. The Provectiens begin their own race to escape and create the PJI's and leave behind many of the artifacts.
To me, the Vasari would most definitely scavange anything more advanced then theirs. If they were to remain the Top Dog in the Empire they ruled from 10k years ago. They most definitely would have been looking for new ways to keep more and more slaves undercontrol. The fact the first thing that comes to mind upon entire planets going silent, is rebellion tells you it most likely wasnt the first time someone tried to overthrow the Vasari or that many believed their own downfall would come from those that they treated so poorly. Every group of powerholders have somehow used the advancements of previous peoples to advance their own power. The Vasari may be different in many aspects. But ingame they do utilize alien tech that does not come from their own creation. To me the Provectiens are just a theory, their not an addition just a possible explaination along with a million others that could be just as plausible. We have to give them some kindof name so that when we debate over their existence or the possibilities of how they have influenced events leading up to the War between the TEC, Vasari and Advent we can use something common to refer to. If everyone had created their own name for this superrace it be hard to debate over who they truely were and if they possibly existed. Introducing the Provectiens is just introducing a possible backstory. A backstory to explain how a faction that was so immense their worlds were countless and even they probably have no clue how long their ancestors ruled with an iron fist, just suddenly lost everything they had within days and weeks or months, something that took god knows how long to build. Not even Rome came to an end as fast as the Vasari, it took years and can even be blamed on events that came hundreds of years prior to the fall of Rome. The reality is for us to rationalize why the Vasari went from being the big bad bully to the cowards running for safety we have to come up with some kindof theory that explains why they suddenly stopped being so tough and just didnt throw themselves at this new challenge. The Vasari were unstoppable 10k years ago. Their descendants are no wheres near as powerful as their ancestors. Just a race of people on the run from the inevitable....extinction. And possibly from this war that they themselves brought about, might be fate finally catching up with them.
Sorry to turn back to this old post. I haven't read all posts in the thread since I haven't followed it. But if it's superior nanites chasing the vasari they would certainly be able to form a ship of nanites carrying more nanites through phase space. Why do I say this? Since the inferior if this is the case vasari nanites are capable of forming a ship that can enter phase space, has an antimatter core etc etc... The vasari carrier cap proves that. And since there is no crew on a ship created in mid space out of nanites it also proves nanites can control a ship acting as crew.
Grtz,Flipkik
Yeah I think we all agree that the thing chasing the Vasari is some rogue nanites. I'm reasonably sure the discussion now is how those nanites came to be. Haven't really been following this portion of the thread
Well maybe the vasari where developing a superior nanite. And when it was finished some rebel hacker was able to hack their system and plant a virus into the nanite?
