Ok here's my idea for a demigod. One thing I love is how Oak's spirits can be used to buff his own stats, but felt that this idea could really be expanded to a new demigod idea.
This demigod is really designed to be pretty useless without spirits to help it, it even has no autoattack to speak of, unless a bound spirit is cast.
Name: The Spiritmaster
Type: General-Dark
Appearance: An unseen frail figure, covered in a hooded robe with a staff that doubles as a walking stick.
Basic concept: The Spiritmaster is based around the concept that he is virtually useless without his spirits to buff him. He is a mode-switching demigod, that provides either selfish spirits or selfless spirits.
--- Skills:
1) Bind Summoning/Roam Summoning:
This switches between modes:
Bind Summoning: Skills that summon spirits that are permanently attached to the Spiritmaster.
Each Bound Spirit will orbit the Spiritmaster, and if any are present, they each provide a very short attack in unison, which provides the auto-attack mechanic.
Roam Summoning: Skills that summon spirits that can leave the Spiritmaster's influence.
--- Bind Summoning Skills:
2) Agile Spirit:
This summons an orbital spirit that increases the Spiritmasters movement speed and autoattack speed. It also provides a minor autoattack.
3) Strong Spirit:
This summons an orbital spirit that increases the Spiritmasters armor and weapon damage. It also provides a minor autoattack.
4) Greedy Spirit:
This summons an orbital spirit that decreases the cost of items as well as increases the gold per kill. It also provides a minor autoattack.
--- Roam Summoning Skills:
5) Angry Spirit:
This summons a minion spirit that is mobile and can attack much like most other minions.
6) Stubborn Spirit:
This summons a minion spirit that cannot move, however it recieves HP everytime a creature dies close to it. Is somewhat like a Tower.
7) Haunting Spirit:
This summons a minion spirit that cannot move by it's own means, however it possesses any creature that enters it's range and then acts as a health degen. It loses HP over time, however if the creature it is possessing dies, it is healed for a percentage of the HP it removed from the target. It can only be attacked whilst unattached, and should have some form of attack activation time before it can attached.
--- Universal Skills:
8) Rememberance (Passive):
This increases the amount of spirits (both orbital + minion) the Spiritmaster may control at any time.
As I said, the Spiritmaster is useless with very low base stats across the board, so the number of Spirits he can control should scale pretty high.
9) Focussed Summoning (Passive)
This decreases the activation and cooldown timers for all skills
The cooldown and activation times should be pretty high for most skills, especially for the Bind Summoning skills to stop from Spiritmasters from heavily ramping up Greedy Spirit everytime they want to buy. Investing in Focussed Summoning however helps alleviate this somewhat.
Due to the fragility and weakness of the base stats, this is really a general that needs to use a lot of items as well, hence the Greedy Spirit. If they are focussing more on Roam Summoning however, their weakness should not be such a big deal and therefore Greedy Spirit could be seen as less useful.
I'm not prepared to play with numbers so at this point, it's just a shell that can be neither broken nor unbroken, I'll leave that to whoever may take enough interest in my concept to build and balance it!
If he has nothing but spirits to fight for him wouldnt it be pretty fatal to meet The Torchbearer?and generaly all aoe would be pretty bad fot his guy
other than that he looks awesome
That's the point, this guy needs spirits to survive, and his weakness is losing them so anybody that can AOE the crap out of him is somebody he really needs to worry about! Ofcourse, if he is finding that players are dealing alot of AOE, his Roam Summoning skills can really be used to create an area of denial and hold the line, whilst using Greedy Spirit to earning more cash and spend on new items (to boost his stats when his spirits get pwned), or spend on citadel providing more support across the board. His vulnerability and general suckage against many other demigod builds is on purpose, and the attempt to create a Demigod who's strategies really haven't existed with anything else up to this point.
As another point, whilst his base stats are rubbish, given a high enough spirit count, he could really be seen as a real hit and fade build as well. Large amounts of Agile + Strong Spirits could really get him in melee range and with the ability to deal some high damage. Ofcourse, alot of his spirits may get nuked in the process leaving him very vulnerable, hopefully after really hurting the nuker very quickly in the first place. Demigod's would also really be forced to play a build that had some half decent AoE themselves just to ensure they keep a melee Spiritmaster from being too dangerous. Ofcourse, this could simply be seen as a teamwork requirement in that a team really needs to ensure their nukers are in the right lane.
I don't think this guy would have a overly troubling time against TB or other aoe characters while in Roam mode because those stubborn spirits could provide the push needed. But the problem would be anticipating wether or not you'll need Roam or not so i'd suggest giving him a level 4 ability that allows him to respec his points completely resetting his abilities. Bind mode seems a little weak at the moment. (things would have to be percentage based in other words) I'd suggest something like this for bind.
Minions are bound and don't take damage they are just there symbolizing his bonus's and are eyecandy, his attack has a 15 range where he sends bound minions out (maybe something like 10 range), focus damage build while roam is more aoe and generalish.
Strong- 50 auto attack (so it is a needed skill) and % boost with damage that is added onto eachother- level ups increase damage % boost and auto attack damageAgile- Auto attack speed increased by 5%, 5% movement speed boost, auto attack 30 damage- level ups increase auto attack speed * boost and auto attack damageGreedy- gives you 1 extra gold per second, 50 auto attack damage (so it isn't useless) 2.5% reduction in item costs (becomes an investment for late game then cause if you got 10 of these things out it would be incredible this would obviously slowly increase over time)- level ups would increase damage significantly no other effectRemembrance- start with 4 spirit max, then 6, 8, 10
4 minions to start. So at level 1 lets say he has strong spirit. Each spirit would give 50 damage
Strong spirit- 50 damage auto attack, PLUS since it's a strong spirit it gives him 250 armor and an extra 5% damageStrong spirit- 50 damage auto attack, sameStrong spirit- 50 damage auto attack, sameStrong spirit- 50 damage auto attack, same
So overall he has 4 50 damage hits every 1.5 seconds (I'd like it if it was a mutli attack with a small splash that does about half the damage of the auto attack) which would be modified up to 4 60 damage attacks with 1000 armor extra. He would have 160 dps in this form with a splash of 80 dps. (pretty weak to begin with which is my point)
Lets say a level 3 spiritmaster has these skills strong spirit level 1 agile spirit level 1 and remembrance. Lets say this would bring him up to 6 minions at once and the minions he has are as follows.
Strong spirit- 250 armor, 5% damage, 50 damageStrong spirit- 250 armor, 5% damage, 50 damageStrong spirit- 250 armor, 5% damage, 50 damageStrong spirit- 250 armor, 5% damage, 50 damageAgile spirit- 5% movement speed, 5% attack speed, 30 damageAgile spirit- 5% movement speed, 5% attack speed, 30 damage
Okay so the bonuses break down into
1000 armor
260 damage with 20% boost is 312 damage
1.5 attack speed for each spirit reduced to 1.35 attack speed (not exactly sure how it's calculated this is just an estimate)
6.6 movement speed
Now we have 230 dps with a 115 dps splash. Which scales pretty well if you think about it. Now 10 spirits would get crazy expecially when throwing items in. You could get a .3 attack speed in with something like 300 damage in that. Complete focus fire against a demigod.
Now what I'm overall trying to prove is that this person could be a very vesitile demigod that actually requires strategy to play. Now of course what I'm suggesting is completely OP if you think about it and would be far too strong late game and relatively weak early game. I'm just trying to get my point across with easily manipulated numbers. Since this post is confusing to me i'll outline my what i think of the idea overall
Bind- underpowered how you put it, focus fire based, more of an assassinRoaming- AoE, your idea is perfect, the minions limit would probally have to be higher than Binds minion limit so I'd suggest remembrance to effect roaming more drastically with minions, haunting minions should be like mist and a small AoE that slowly damages people
I like the mechanics, it's pretty unique. The only problem I can see is that he is thematically quite similar to Oak. If he were to summon elementals or undead or something slightly different maybe? Maybe change Agile to Air, Strong to Earth, Angry to Fire, Stubborn to ice, Haunting to Electric, and Greedy to Aether? Just a thought.
I love it! He could have elemental balls floating around him in bound form and in roam he could have various elemental bodies roaming. Now if only the original poster would agree to it.
Great ideas guys
I like the theming proposal too, simply because it would allow identification of the build as well. This is not such a problem with the current demigods ofcourse because their skills are much more visual, but for a Bind Summoning build their main skill is simply buffed stats rather than a visual identifier provided by animation and particle effects etc.
One thing I'm still concerned about is how do you stop a heavily buffed Bind Summoning SM. Should there be a way to kill the bound spirits?
Perhaps every X damage 1 bound spirit is killed. X could also be a variable increased with either Remembrance or Focussed Summoning? (I would say thematically Remembrance would fit, but Focussed Summoning is seemingly getting lost in the excitement for the other skills)
FROST NOVA = spirits become icy pops while I blow spirit masters head off with a tasty fireball.
Another option is to simply have a time limit on the Spirits, lets say the base time for a summoned spirit is 2 minutes. That should allow you to build up a good force of your spirits while still keeping some turnover on a consistent basis.
GENIUS. I completely agree with this. This is even what I was going for.
Holy crap dude!I fuckin love the concept and how his entire build works. I can get u a sweet story in like 10 minutes if u want and even come up with some more sweet abilities if u want! But really, amazing idea! I love it! Instant Karma!
Yo, glad you like it.
Yeh if you wanna whip up a backstory go nuts
As for more abilities, I'm fairly sure I've filled all 4 slots! (1 for mode switching, 3 skills for each mode)
Unless of course you can think of some passive abilities he/she could use?
Ok here is my backstory so be ready:) (if u dont like it tell me)
The man stared down the massive scaling problem that lay before him. It was beyond any normal human capabilities of comprehension, but thankfully he was gifted with oddities like that. He was completley an outcast yet not outcasted. Ever since being 3 Bartimue was compared to some of the world's most intelegent people. He could challnege shakespear's concepts and even counter certain facts but he would not be undestood. He spent most of his years calculating massive unsolvable problems. Until of course one day came, the day he hoped he could skip over. "Oh Bartimue you have truly made yourself a real living now! Well, its time to go now." a shady voice said slyly. Bartimue spun on his heels that day a looked around the empty white room belwildered. "Who said that? I am no man to play god damned games with! I am the great Bar- he was cut off short by a high pitched giggle. "The great?" said a snickering voice. "Leave you runt!" Bartimue yelled with fury.
"Wish i could chap really but i got a job to fufill." said a sincere voice. "Who are u?" Bartimue spat. "Look bud, my name is Merlin, not that big-time fella. No, i was some time man servant. Now im a gathering spirit. Anyways time to go" "Go where?" Bartimue said in sudden confusion. " To the spirit world, y'know die. Remember? You said that you would be born with a gift and the spirit god said yes but on the bad side u would only live to be 56" "Today is your 56th birthday" the spirit said in a comedic manner. "I did not!" but the realization struck. He could not truly remember but he could find the problem and solve it! Hell, with his power he could solve any problem in the world! He began to scribble maddly on his board, leaving a sloppy mess of a problem there.
"Hey bud hate to interupt but remember.. TIME TO GO!" the spirit bellowed with power eminating from his voice. Bartimue gave him a sharp and stern look. "Not until i'm finished with this problem." he said defiantly. "Im gonna get my ass busted so come on! Oh damn that word hasnt been invented yet... Anyways its time to go and you got no choice." "No, you are wrong, i sitll have one year. Ahaha!" he turned with a happy smirk on his face.
"How did you? What the? Let me see that!" the spirit sat inspecting it "Crap its correct!" Bartimue stared at him "Why do you keep saying these odd words? what do "ass" and "crap" mean?" "You'll learn one day bud. But jesus christ its correct! Oh man the spirit god is going to be pissed!" "There you go agian with your non-existant words!" Bartimue from day on sat and scribbled odd problems on the white board. He figured out about teh gods and these "spirits". One day a spirti came and said "Time to come with me" "I can solve your problem, i know how to make you free!" adn from then on he helped the spirits for a reason he could not quite place. But it gave him an elengated life so it was worth it. One day he solved a problem he should not have. It was not for mortal eyes, but then agian he cant really be considered "mortal". Anyways the problem was a storage of unused divine power. He had become a Demigod!
He decided to support the spirits since they were eternal spirits and they presented challenging math problems but over the cousrse of helping thousands of spirits he forgot all about his gift and began to love the spirits. He began to sympathize with then and understand they're pain. He was a rebel with extreme power. He became best freinds with his spirits. He had become a general of spirits!
so if u want a longer story then i can do but i have an idea for a passive ability that would require two diffrent spirit types being able to be summoned. It can be anytwo but its called: Spiritual Multiplaction, increases the strenght of your spirits by x amount where x is the number of spirits you control. Also increases the number of spirits you can control. So tell me what you think!
Oh I like the story, it's pretty cool, definitely makes him a light general and not dark, although I was pretty loose on that anyway
I don't think there's any need to lengthen it, it rounds off pretty well I think.
I'll clean it up spelling-wise etc, and add it to the OP, I get the feeling you got all excited when you wrote it
As for the passive skill, well I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, it does seem to have a large overlap with the skill already defined "Remembrance" which increases the number of spirits you can control. This also has the effect of increasing the effect of the spirits you have, simply by having more of them, therefore increasing the power provided by spirits in an indirect manner. Hence there should be no real need to "increase strength of spirits." Also, remember this is a general, so he will have the Morale skill track which will also provide general increase of ability to minions.
Well, I'll hold off on fixing up the story, unless you plan to, or if you want to change anything yourself. I'm happy with the story though, so if you are also satisfied it is final, I'll go ahead and add it to the OP.
Thanks a bunch
Hehe ty! But about that skill i kinda just thought it could make all of his spirits aspects genrally better but now i realize that is useless since morale there! So anyways ill go through sometime and clean up the story and glad u like it. Anyways in compensation for that crappy skill idea heres another one! This ones idea is to give him generally some form of super nuke ability. If it sounds OP it probly is! Anyways here it is! This time its called Spirtual Fraction hence his story, 3000 mana(i know its high but it plays well with his mechanic i think) instant cast tiem, this ability costs 100 mana less per spirti currently in his control. For 10 seconds the master and all of his spirits will go invurnable, during this time, each second he will radiate 100 damage in an aoe that is somehow equal to the amount of spirits he controls. He is immobile during this time along with all his spirits and minions. The CD is equal to the amount of spirits he controls meaning that the more has, the longer it is, and he will instantly lose half of his spirits and mana.
Anyways i see that he only has passive and summon skills so he basicly has no dmg output other than his spirits which can easily be countered by high armor and health regen or even potions. I just thought he could use at least ONE massive dmg output skill so he could become more of a threat. Anyways tell me what u think of this skill!
Well once again, with the skills he already has, his skill bar is full. So another active skill isn't going to fit unless one of the spirits are removed in either Roam or Bind Summoning Mode.
Also, well, the point of this class is to be somewhat specific in play style, and require the enemy to acknowledge his weaknesses.
Sure in a 1v1, enemy demigods will just armour up and will weaken the Spiritmaster's ability, but isn't every demigod supposed to be counterable? In a 2v2 for instance, if the enemy demigod's armour up to counter the Spiritmaster, then the Spiritmaster's team mate will be better used if they concentrate on nuking. This then creates a problem for the other team, which do they worry about more, Spiritmaster or nuker?
When I designed this demigod, I felt it important to make sure he has a big weakness, as he surely has a very good strength if played right. Not to mention, this demigod has a number of play styles.
In Bind Summoning you can buff up on Strong/Agile Spirits and become a pretty dangerous melee DG.
If you buff up on Greedy spirits, then you should find yourself rolling in gold with which to try and acquire better items early.
In Roam Summoning you can either invest in Angry spirits to push the line, Stubborn spirits to hold the line, and Haunting spirits if you plan on harassing DG's. Also Haunting Spirit is intended to be the primary creep-killing skill. It may not cause an AoE spike, but you should be able to throw a few Haunting spirits at a crowd and then run away.
In any case, all Roam Summoning builds are designed to really be faught like a General should be, from behind the front line, where the Spiritmaster has very little need to invest in Armor or Health if they are played properly. Of course, in a Roam Summoning build, the Spiritmaster is likely going to be pretty slow and vulnerable, so even then they must be very aware of when to run away
EDIT: Also in reply more specifically to your skill suggestion:
I would say this skill would certainly be useful, and covers an area the Spiritmaster's current skill set does not. But I don't think it's imperative that every DG has to have an AoE nuke skill. As for it's OP nature, well as I said at the start, I'm really not into the idea of talking numbers, I'm not the human calculator like many people who play DG probably are, so I'm all for balance via testing. I can see the use of it as a damage spike, but as an AoE skill to kill creeps he has multiple methods (high Agile spirits for very fast melee, or Haunting Spirit). I think the main issue I have with this skill is however, that I don't think it warrants removing any of the existing skills. I know that a lack of an armour-ignoring spike ability makes this DG concept a bit weird, but that's what I've been shooting for all along. I love the idea of managing to fit a square peg into a round hole without resorting to lowest common denominator
oh alright i now fully get his focus:)
