Not that we necessarily have a say in this, but I thought I'd put the question out there: should there be a stat reset when 1.2 goes live? The possible reset options would be to reset favor and/or reset stats.
My thought is that we shouldn't do a stat reset in any form when 1.2 goes live. My reasoning is that the last stat reset occurred with 1.1 (if I remember right), but there were still quite a few stat reporting issues present that weren't identified immediately. I'd instead prefer to wait until after 1.2 goes live to give people a chance to report any new stat issues and then we can go live with a reset (stats only).
Thoughts?
Update from Frogboy in today's dev journal (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/364502):
Q: When is Epoch 3 going to come and what stats are going to be changed?
A: Epoch 3 will likely come with v1.2. Favor points will stay but the actual win/loss and other stats will be reset (still accessible as Epoch 2 though).
Oh agreed, thats what i'm saying. No point resetting unless it is woring flawlessly. Even hiccups as mine above, though rare in occurance should be fixed before resetting stats...otherwise we replace one broken ladder for another.
The most compelling reason for a reset, in my opinion, is that when stats become visible players are going to be empowered to make decisions about which games they join. Players who previously lost a lot because they joined uneven games and who won a lot of games the matching system didn't value have a pretty big hole to climb out of. They simply shouldn't have to jump that massive hurdle to break even. For many players climbing from 250 up to 1k+ would be an unreasonably difficult task and it's not their fault that they got as low as they are. Also players who are picking partners shouldn't be deterred from playing with good players because of their poor records.
Also they need to strike all accounts with zero played games from the ladder, or at least hide accounts on the ladder whenever the account hasn't been played for a week or two (don't remove exp, just tabulate the rankings as though the account weren't there).
I'm all for waiting a week to see if there's any major bugs and let people learn the new DGs, but I think it's silly to sit on your hands until the system is perfect (which may never happen) when we can make it much better than it is now with a reset.
I just want to clarify, I don't mean a perfect system as in the complete removal of bugs in the reporting - glitches and strange occurances will always be a factor and to hold out for a faultnessly correct stat system is unrealistic. I wasn't terribly specific in my most, I meant a perfect system as in it fullfills the needs of the community - irrefuteable as in you can't argue with it because it does what it we need it to do, which currently our stat system doesn't.There are players who have, quite literally, played 4 games - of which they've won none - that are ranked higher than myself through the way the ladder system currently works, which I feel is counter-productive. The system, as it currently stands, is lopsided - in order to increase in rank your Kills need to be 10 times your deaths. Now, this might be realistic in a game where arranged Teams are the only way to play, however in a Random VS Random game like we currently have this is skewing the stats. This needs to change - either the way experience is calculated needs to alter, or we need proper Team Support - other wise resetting the stats is simply wasting time, as the stats tell us right now who's playing in Teams - the most common use at the moment in my experience - and resetting will remove that functionality until those Teams have played enough that their behaviour is apparent again. Once actual Team support is implemented, the stats need to be reset again so that they'll actually mean something. Being ranked lower than someone who has played 4 games and won none of them seems like the opposite of what a ranking system should produce.
Part of your problem is definitely your regional disadvantage. Australian players in general will likely have major issues climbing the ladder no matter how persistently they seek matches which are likely to yield a decent amount of exp and unlikely to take a lot if they're defeated. For players from other regions it's very practical to break the top 500 without too much effort, and next patch it will be significantly easier with stats... assuming your current stats aren't a major impediment, hence the value of erasing them in my opinion.
That being said, I think starting at zero instead of 1,000 would fix some of the major problems with the system. There's just this massive chunk of players at 1k and then a big range of very new ones between 1k and 500 who are trending downwards but are still ranked higher than more experienced players who have completed the process in which they're engaged.
reset or no reset depends on how the system works. so for a week or two no reset, then a hotfix if theres still something broke, and then a reset. but the favour points should be leaved untouched since there hasnt been a major bug (at least non i know of).
No.

i think it would be much more interesting if they regularly reset favor points,
or perhaps they could refund all your item, so that u can pick new ones?
its an intriguing concept, much like the prestige mode on CoD
They should reset favor points frequently, just not take away favor items. I seriously have 40k favor points now, what's the point?
I vote stat reset. Old stat were buggy and inacurate.
+1
I think this is a good point too. I encounter annoying situations simply because I have good stats. When I do play PUGs, I still get people who join, see that someone with a halfway decent record joined on my team because they check stats, call us a premade, then leave. To me, I think it will be even harder to get games going once the new system is in place. Or there will be a big call to switch up teams when I am playing with my team on a vent server... which means we might switch up teams, but then I'd lose voice chat. That said, if everyone started from scratch, that would mitigate the issue to some degree, but it doesn't really solve the problem... it just masks it for a time.
I also have a rediculous amount of favor, but casual players more than likely do not. As there are 2 audiences (casual/hardcore), both should be taken into account. So, what would be a good system that would make both audiences happy? I know when I was new to the game, grinding out games to get favor was a fun, added bonus. Now that I have a rediculous amount of favor, it's a silly mechanic. If favor is reset frequently but I get to keep whatever items I've purchased, I'll quickly own all the favor items I want and it won't matter if I have 0 favor. If you take away both favor and the favor items, I'm forced to grind through again to get items. This, while somewhat annoying, would make the game mechanic valid again, but would not benefit the casual game audience much at all.
As for grinding games for favor items, I really don't see the problem. Achievements give a fair amount of experience and you get them inadvertently by just playing different demigods. Also you can get achievement favor points off of comp stomps. I got 1100 favor points for my staff in about an hour without playing a single person.
Well, speaking from memory only, but I believe that's simply impossible : the ELO formula cannot work in that case.
Anyway, as I said in others posts, just forget about ranking. It doesn't work, and cannot work. Such a system hasn't been invented yet (or, with the huge amout of $$ involved, you can bet it'd be used in every major team sports league).
Don't reset the ladder, scrap it altogether.
There's no reason whatsoever to scrap ranking, pure wins/losses is not a meaningful value.
Individual ranking for a team game does not work fine. You can have a 1v1 ranking which works fine, you can have a team ranking which works fine, but that's it.Oh, and one of the reasons why ranking, especially as implemented, cannot work here (you're supposed to play vs players of similar rank) is community size : all the games you've quoted have/had huge communities. DG's community is puny.
As for the reasons for scraping the ladder, they're in the linked post.
Now, about favour points...In a strategy game, such a system just shouldn't be there. Both sides are supposed to start on a level field. Now, rewarding "grinding" has become such a prevalent feature in games that even strategy game designers feel they have to incorporate it somehow to please their customers.Resetting them would serve no purpose. If a change were to be implemented, i'd say either :
(needless to say, the first approach would get my vote )
Stardock said there would never be another favor points reset.
and we'd do a stat reset....why? also i'd rather they focus on fixing that critical gamestate issue. b/c i've had about 8 wins that the game doesn't record due to that issue. new demigods are nice dotn get me wrong i just wish they'd fix what we have now before going on to new things. (like bring back our minion favor items)
I'm fine with stats reset.
I agree w that regarding erb at least.
Also - I think SD would do a favor reset if the community asked for it... I just don't thnk we'll ask as a whole as many disagree. My main gripe w the first reset was that they didn't ask at all... they just did it. That was pretty shitey IMO considering all of the other issues us dedicated folks have dealt with (eg should penalize your base for what people who haven't bought the game MIGHT like only to risk losing your base?).
All of that said... I don't think there really is a clear consensous either way (stat/favor reset) ATM. Am I wrong?
