With Pax coming up the 4th and running to the 6th. It would seem that a beta release is eminent. Who can be the first to guess the correct date?

Didn't they say Beta1 would open with PAX and close shortly after PAX ended? Maybe I'm losing my mind but I seem to remember that mentioned in a dev journal post.

We’ve picked a tiny handful of the pre-order group to become alpha testers based on how many other betas they’ve participated in, forum karma, and a number of other criteria.
Those of you not in the alpha, fear not, you’re not missing very much. The beta is scheduled to come out around PAX (Penny Arcade Expo).
Be forewarned, we plan to close the beta shortly after PAX and it will remain closed for some months. Those who want to get the beta can pre-order the game.
I am leaning towards beta 1 being only cloth map in order to let beta testers have more input on the game mechanics (fewer assets to change if we accept a suggestion).
There will be an Alpha tour later this week (possibly tomorrow). Stay tuned.

Sure, it was aimed for right around PAX... but there has been zero noise on the forums about it. And I'd expect at least a little noise if they were planning to start running the pre-order queue, so I have to assume it's not happening this week.

You will, don't worry . With Stardock betas, so long as you preorder before the beta's release or a week(ish) after the release you're in

Of course a lot of times things aren't ready till the next day, and then they don't like releasing on Fridays because there's no devs over the weekend... so maybe the 14th.

Im guessing the beta will be done on my birthday the septemeber the 11, so they will properly release the beta the day after
Well, as long as the beta is before 21th of september, they are still correct when stating on the elemental homepage:
Elemental is scheduled to go into public beta during Summer 2009.

Why? Because I'll be visiting family in another timezone and unable to play.
Sept. 13th. Why? because I think nearly all the days are chosen now. ( and it is my lucky # )
