stack items with hit pointslearn when to run and when to fightalways carry at least 1 town portal after your 1st time back to basebuy currency I citadel upgrade as soon as you get war score 3capture and hold hit point and experience flagsteleport in to help team-mates or save your own bases portal flagsstart the game with banded armor + scaled helm, this allows you to stay in a lane for as long as possibledon't go back to base lots of times early game - you lose out on a lot of experience points from creepsrook has two builds - hammer slam (blood of the fallen favor item) or mass towers (staff of renewal favor item for maximum effect)oak has several builds, but most of them include getting monk idol minions early, and having a lot of skill points in penitence - best favor items are blood of the fallen, swift anklet or the general's teleport item
Heya! Hit me up on gtalk - casualsax@gmail.com - and if you have vent, we can game and I can yell-err-I mean-teach you some things. Pacov's also a great sport at offering to help, if you catch him online.
Learn more about the game mechanics at the Demigod Wiki. There are also guides.
My first suggestion is to play some single player (try 1v1 or 2v2). Then, play some multiplayer against computers with a buddy or someone on the internet... next, check out some of the strategy guides... the better guides list exactly what abilities to purchase along with what items they recommend (including a quick break down of how much money you need for this and that). All the while, you'll start getting a LITTLE better at knowing when to run, when to attack, etc. After that, start playing in muliplayer games and try to make note of who is good, who is bad, etc. Try not to be one of the bad ones (eg the guy who gets killed all the time = the bad one). That should get you off to a good start, I think. If you see me online and want to try a quick comp stomp, I can give you some tips, etc.
When you can hold your own on single player/hard, you should be ready to take part in casual pickup games without too much difficulty. Back when I found normal somewhat challenging (last week, ha) I got badly owned in multiplayer. My principle difficulties atm are accidentally buying the wrong items, committing to DG vs DG fights too early, and lag...
I would amend the original replier's answer though to to be 'stack regen items' rather than stacking hit points. But it depends on whether you're playing a DG with good regen to start with, like Erebus.
Like others have said, stack health/regen, know when to retreat, practice against the Hard AI, read the strategy guides, etc. I would also add that you should try to master 1 or 2 demigods at a time and learn what they are best at. When I first started, my biggest problem was that I didn't use my level-up points well. I would just spend them on the next thing available in the skill tree; I didn't know that you could save them until something that you really liked became available. Also, I didn't tailor my item purchases to either my strategy or my chosen abilities. Thus, I was just building demigods that could do a little of everything, but nothing particularly well.
I would suggest first determining how you want to play and what kind of contribution you want to make to your team. I play Lord Erebus sometimes, and I like to build him as a fast-strike assassin, with a small entourage of idols and minions. So, I get Blood of the Fallen as a favor item; build up Bite, Bat Swarm, Coven, and Improved Conversion; and upgrade health, armor, and regen items as I can afford them (also, buy at least one good mana item like the Veloth helm). You can play LB as strictly a high-hitpoint, demigod-killing assassin by skipping the minion abilities and idols and just buying buffing items and investing in a stunning ability like Mass Charm, along with Bite, Bat Swarm, etc. Also, you can build him as anti-infantry by investing heavily in Mist and mana items--there is a build that can allow you to stay in mist form for a long time and just own a lane of creeps. It all depends on whether you want to play as a minion-leading general, a demigod-killer, an anti-infantry Mist demon, etc.
Just pick a demigod that you like and practice builds against the AI. There are a few viable options for most of the demigods. You like Oak and Rook; both have a few different builds that can help win a game. Rook can be a tank, has strong anti-structure abilities, can control a lane with towers and hammer smash, and is an effective demigod-killer if you stack health, regen, and damage items and abilities. Oak is one of the most versatile demigods in the game and can easily be played as a solid assassin or general. Just try to choose a build that fits the map, helps your team, and maximizes your demigod's native strengths. Avoid trying to build a do-it-all demigod. Instead, determine his/her role in the game and then customize accordingly.
Good luck to you and have fun.
thank you all for your advise.
Honeslty ...don't give up ever... even when it seems like you aren't winning.. try a different strategy and stay to the end..
Perserverance teaches you a LOT... mostly a lot about humility ...and being able to lose gracefully...but it teaches you a lot..and if you get REALLY lucky the ADD folks you are playing will rage quit because you refuse to say DIE.
Buy a pewter Rook, +800 health and 35% reduction in cooldowns
Read all the guides
Play each demigod agaisnt the computer (and win)
Use good judgement.
In my opinion...even tho you like oak and rook... I say try someone else. I use to use UB tons, would win some, and lose some. Decided to try TB out of the blue, threw some of my UB tactics on him, and now I rock with TB. Expand your horizon, branch out, may find something you never saw.
Playing as different characters gives tremendous insight into how to beat all characters
They've mentioned it but it cannot be stressed enough. Know when to run and when to fight. Don't think that just by running to your tower you might be safe with minimal hps. Good players know exactly how far they can chase to kill you and still make it back alive.
Flag locking is a good strat as well. Lock any and all flags that you can to gain advantage in WAR but don't waste too much cash on flags.
Communicate with your allies if they speak your language. Plan ambushes, call for snipes, let them know you're gonna teleport in and assist, and always let them know if you are falling back. There's nothing like wondering where your ally went in a fast fight lol. It can turn the tide of a game.
Another thing people forget is that you can drop items. If you can't heal but you're running with an ally that may die from venom or a possible snipe, drop a pot for them.
Learn the item builds BEFORE you start playing multiplayer. You want to be able to know exactly what items to buy and when so you don't waste too much time at your base.
Don't be stingy with your money, cit upgrades are very important for winning a game. Building fortitude 1 asap is a good investment. It's 600g.
Oak's shield skill is invaluable. You see reg lining you up in his sights for a snipe, shield yourself. TB about to blast you with an FB, shield. There's nothing more annoying than an enemy wasting a skill for 0 damage heh. Also, remember you can shield your allies as well. Your ally about to die from venom but almost at crystal? Shield them. See top reasons as well, you can protect your allies from FB's and snipes as well.
I just got off work so maybe I'll think of some more later.

Prioritize learning how to hold a lane. If you can control a lane you can help your team win the game.
