We all know in most every game that ai is usually a pushover and we get so strong it becomes not much fun to continue on and boring.
So I propose the AI SURPRISE programming that knows when the game has reached that point. The AI surprise is about LUCK and there should be LUCk in this game. From out of nowhere the AI will get this LUCK and will be granted an X number of the most powerful creatures in the game that it can control (but at least a stack full). It's like a one last stand of a full stack that can romp and rampage the human player at will until he/she can come up with a plan and idea to defeat this monstrous stack of evil. (think of the Golden Horde Invasion of MTW) It should have teleport ability and/or flying. It should be rendered with several magical abilities for protection and/or offense or both. It should be so powerful the human players should go "oh sh*t where did he get all that sh*t"
Nothing I love more than to hear players complain about the ai cheating. lol Because it's quite alright for them to use every exploit in the book but if the ai gets one thing out of whack it's CHEATING LIKE A SOMBIATCH. lol
Now before you whine and wahaa Medieval Total War the first one actually has this feature. It is after you have destroyed a faction that it will return and when it does man oh mercy it returns with some very powerful units and usually a stack of them. I always loved this feature in MTW even though plenty of times it stomped me back and took several of my conquests it was still fun and challenging and of course the first time It happened quite a SURPRISE.
Agreed... for you
That's because you and the others have incredibly stupid and boring minds and only think one diminsional. I think in 5th diminsions I should have known better to even discuss the issue with morons. As you can see from earlier posts of mine and what Brad has told us I'm pretty much in sync with him now and you'll be SURPRISED at some of the SURPRISES in the game. Some of you ain't gonna like them but oh well I will.
The point being Scorp it has nothing to do with the damn book. Just like developers of a game the producers of the movie CHANGED and SURPRISED the people with these out of nowhere changes to excite and entensify the part of the movie where these events happen. It's was a DESIGNED DECISION to put those in the MOVIE just like in a GAME. If you can even comprehend the concept and that there are 1000's of ideas how to make a movie just as there are to make a game. As I said it's been done a lot in movies but not so much so in games. Medieval Total War is the first one I saw that brought back elite armies after a faction had been defeated and well we all know how well and loved the Total War series is. Regardless of the IQ80 morons on this board.
In the game M.U.L.E. there were random events, some good and some bad. The better you were doing, the more likely a bad event would happen to you and the less likely a good event would happen to you. And the wose you were doing, the opposite would be true. However, the random events rarely turned the tide.
There could be something here. Help the player that needs it the most, but not so much so that it is actually a bad thing to be in first place.
Let's keep the personal insults out of the conversation, mmmkay? Thanks.
Yeah ok Yarlen I'm sorry. But, some of these F.... grrrrrr just don't have a clue. I hate one diminsional thinking in people. I'm sure you know a great developer thinks in more than one diminsion so I'm not too worried really about how the game is going to turn out in the challenge department. Just had to cool off from reading these Ch..... posts.
Define one dimensional thinking, and then define 'five dimensional thinking' and how this leads to 'AI must cheat and get invincible armies and mega-bonuses to make GREAT GAMES because some nameless person on the internet says so based on nothing'. Clearly, '5th dimensional thinking' means no critical thought or logic at all!
Back in the days of M.U.L.E., the 'game' was like Monopoly and about competing with your friends huddled around the same computer. That's a very different situation to playing a game for hours, making intelligent and correct decisions throughout, and then having your opponents suddenly recieve huge piles of military aid from the fifth dimension so that you lose. Taking any ideas from the Total War lategame - where the UI is totally incapable of dealing with the vast amount of micro required - seems totally daft.
YOU have to cool off after reading posts psycho ??!?
When you first showed up I thought you were the biggest asshole on the interwebs, then you posted some really quite good posts, I gave you a couple of karma to encourage you, and now I am starting to remember the phrase "trust your first impression."
I am with you as far as wanting a challenge, in fact there should be virtually impossible difficulty settings and if something like what you are saying were implemented at Impossible difficulty - that's nifty neato and great.
However to propose that this is how the typical game should play out?
For you to act like just because you made the call on families (good call btw) that you are now sharing some kind of intergalactic mind meld with Brad and that every assinine concept that you can pull out of your ass is destined to be in the game and that you know because you are "dialed in"? Get back on your meds.
You claim to be this 5th dimensional thinker, but so far I have not heard you make a cogent argument about anything other than just making a blanket claim that "you know what makes good gameplay" and name calling anyone who disagrees with you... sorry that is more like a year old than th dimensional thinking, pal.
Half the time I am torn believe thinking that you really believe what you are typing and are seriously mentally ill, or if you just get a kick out of pushing people's buttons and make retarded posts just to get a laugh out of the responses.
Oh Yarlen will you please curb these children afterall you did tell THEM to stop with the PERSONAL INSULTS now didn't you?
I didn't like the deus-ex-machina approach of Total War either. I have no problem with uprisings but what they brought on was simply ridiculus. Some barbarian hordes coming from off the board - OK. Treason where a part of my forces turn against me - OK. But a massive army out of nowhere? That looks too much of a cover-up of a bad AI. But then again I'm sure Elemental won't have bad AI...
Or maybe it's just a grain of truth in his nickname.
In some kind of grand cosmic sense I feel sure that this is an absolutely hilarious joke (maybe to the beings of the 5th dimension that he keeps claiming to think in). While my consciousness can just barely feel the impression of how funny it must be, my mortal mind cannot help but be utterly frustrated and confused to the point of extreme irritation.
1 dimensional thinking.
Psycho, be a good boy and play nice and you are welcome here. Or maybe you like surprises so much you are hoping for a surprise ban to fall from the sky and knock some sense into you.
Actually, Yarlen's comment was directed torward you. I respect your ideas but follow the forum rules when posting. You could definitely be a good contributor to the community but no one will take you seriously if you insult them for having a difference of opinion.
I am however shocked he has more karma than me...
It shouldn't, given how the karma system works.
True true... Maybe if I am more insistent and obnoxious while having some borderline decent ideas I'll get some pity karma like him...
Just post more. More posts = better chance of someone clicking +1 = more karma! Throw out more ideas at random, because if one of them is right everyone forgets the rest of them being wrong and gives you karma for your 'insight'.
It's the forum game!
I am positive he was aware who Yarlen's comment was directed at. The fact that you took him seriously will probably just lower his opinion of your IQ...Psycho does post some decently good ideas, but his desire to be superior and treat others like shit definitely lowers his value to the community.
The two karma that I gave him were not pity karma, I was actually pleasantly surprised at some of the good things he posted and actual discussion instead of name calling. I am thinking he must have been taking his meds at the time, because he definitely is reminding me of a manic depressive that I once associated with (in his manic phase). Sadly he is institutionalized now because he decided one day he didn't need his meds any more.
This is why the karma system is meaningless; someone can be lucid and recieve karma for good ideas, and then openly troll for days and... have the same karma. If you posted heavily, you could constantly alternate between being ignorant, obtuse or offensive and then reasonable and your karma would consistently go up. The posting in this thread is literally trolling, but his karma will not decrease, and next time someone likes one of his ideas it'll go up.
It is possible that he is literally delusional...
No, I hate this system. It is formally known as negative reinforcement and it accomplishes little more than stretch the game out and cause it to drag on for far longer than it really deserves. It forces the player to spend more and more effort on the boring, mundane aspects of empire management when all they really want to do is wipe out the few remaining cities of their last opponent.
I agree with you here. Allow someone who has built up his resources to put them to use instead of having them sucked out.
Wasn't that how it was done in the original Settlers game?
I liked that system.
Also: No to the OP. The AI getting "luck" is, frankly, the dumbest idea I've ever read for this type of game.
I disagree with you there. Maintenance costs of cities in Civ IV are less of an end-game issue. It works pretty good against the land-grab at the beginning, I think. Building a stable economy before expanding is not mundane.
Yes but elemental has it's own method of preventing the land-grab. Essence is likely your most valuable resource in this game.
