Brad,
While I do love Sins and it’s a great game, why are we being given an add-on to make alliances? This has got to be the stupidest add-on you all have decided to make and one of the dumbest directions the game has gone in. If I wanted to make an alliance with the AI I would have done that from the start of the game when I created it.
Let’s face it Sins is about conquering, and having an option to make an alliance is just not needed in this game. There is no Single Player game so why bother with this Add-on when you all should have been working on adding a new more powerful bad ass race to fight against. I hate to sound ungrateful that you all are still making add-on and patching the game but I just don’t see the sense of this new add-on. Unless you are adding new ships or ability for weapons this new add-on is a complete and utter waste of time.
Continued violation of the rules, as adjudicated by Kryo (the more severe the violation, the quicker the ban, with fewer warnings). Just hit 'report' whenever he goes out of line, and eventually he'll get shut down.
Nobody here has stopped to look back from the days when sins was first in development then in beta. It was planned from day one that there would be TWO expansions for sins. One dealing with the more militaristic aspect of the game. Entrenchment was the result. Then one dealing with empire/civic management like every other 4x game. I guess Diplomacy is it. We will see how it turns out. I personally would like to see a little more 4X in this RT4X game. So far we have 3 of the 4x's. We got Explore, Expand, and Exterminate. If i am right Diplomacy will give us the fourth X, which is Exploit. Diplomacy is a form of exploitation if you think about it.
Yes 99% of the sins players are playing Single Player. I am one of them, and i am perfectly happy with that. MP games in general these days we deal with nothing but idiotic hyperactive kids. So i can see why the more "mature" crowd avoids MP. I play Sins to have fun. Not to put up with grief.
I am also a total advocate of a better AI. During the beta days i was always pushing for better AI. You should have seen how bad the early beta AI was.
We dont need a SP campaign. None of the other 4X games have one. Galactic Civ 2's campaign is just a series of scenarios with a sandbox game bolted onto it. Civ 4, MOO1-3 etc, etc. are all sandbox.
OP have a coke, and a smile, and STFU. We are looking forward to getting Diplomacy. You dont have to buy it. Have fun playing WoW.
I can see CenturionJixra sprinting over here to get on his MP High Horse... =P everyone brace...

Ok, you've got my attention.
Obviously, I take issue with what he says. Like any community or online crowd, you'll find jerkoff kids as well as mature adults and people with pleasant personalities in Sins. The question is, will you allow the jerkoffs to kick you off the playground and to keep you from enjoying the company of the adults? I hope you and Major Stress will reconsider and give it another chance. You might also look into joining a direct IP (LAN-like) gaming group. PM me if you're interested.
Here is a thread I just created to discuss the possibility of an exclusive Players Club for mature players who are tired of the AI and would like to play against human opponents in principle but want to avoid "idiotic hyperactive kids".

Yeah, Explore, Expand, and Exterminate are pretty obvious, but I, too, have always wondered what exactly was meant by "Exploit". I guess that would be stuff like using what you've conquered, such as mining asteroids, increasing planet populations, and setting up trade ports and other orbital structures.
I get the sense that you'd like to play against human competition but that you had a bad experience or two with jerkwads. I suggest finding a way to organize a club of other mature people to play against. You could hook up with a group of people, play over direct IP connect or just go onto ICO and set up passworded games and friends-only games. If someone's an ass, kick them out of your group. You could even establish membership guidelines so that everyone knows the rules. It could be an exclusive club on ICO. I have an idea for how to go about this and perhaps I'll start up a new thread in the General forum.
Anyway, I'd like to see a feature where you can give strict orders to allied AI (in Locked Team games) that the AI must follow. I'd also like to see an option where you can order the AI to feed stuff to you or another ally, such as "Give all metal to Player X".
Appreciate the offers Centurion. My internert at the moment is not very reliable (not an excuse, its a fact). Otherwise i would take you up on it. I dont think you would appreciate me droping midway through a fight..niether would i. That will change soon once my winter downtime from my job happens.
Exploit can be many things. Like what you already posted, but i feel that it can be done better. Sins has a 4x feel but its not quite a full 4x feel.
The Snot kids are everywhere... Granted most games are targetted for the "teen" crowd. That doesnt mean us "geezers" dont enjoy gaming as well. Yes i do play WoW (when my internet is working right), and i played eve online. WoW i can just turn off the chat feature. That fix's the annoying brat problem Games like this one, supreme commander, HW2, etc. just seem to attract the extreme of the teen troll crowd. I just wish they made games like this that targetted OUR age group (30-50).
What about guys who are young but have been accused of being 30-50? (Everyone on teamspeak puts me at ~35 yrs old until I tell them 21)
The worst someone guessed me at was mid-50s.
I know of a small group of folks who play scheduled games. If someone drops they just revert back to a saved game. So dropping now and then isn't necessarily a game breaker unless it happens more than, say, once an hour. PM me if you'd like to learn more.
the real question would be do people actually ask if you are Amish, and if so, why do you have a computer? =P
He's on a reaaaalllly long rumspringa....
LOL...ya I hear mine in boot camp ......laugh....
Oh dear, oh dear. Well, let's start from the top.
As far as the OP goes...lol at the TC who thinks he's more important than anyone else.
Firstly: Ass count in this post starts off nil, then jumps to a whopping 3 in the middle paragraph. Based on such high ass density I would place you somewhere in...middle-school? Am I right?
Secondly: Your argument is loltastic. If I play singly, offline, without multiple human players, that is not single-player? It's a "skirmish" mode, sure, I'll grant that, but not single-player because there's no plot? By that definition I suppose Everquest and World of Warcraft, which are clearly multiplayer games but have a plot, are technically single-player?
And thirdly, "that" is clearly not "all", because you have this post later in the thread:
The fact that someone agrees with you does not validate your argument in the slightest. If that were true, then the KKK's brand of white supremecy would be correct because other white supremecists agree with them.
Flailing about and calling Diplomacy junk on supposition is no better than the forumites who you decry for calling Diplomacy brilliant on supposition. There is no data to work with, you are quite correct...yet it's alright for you to make assumptions about it, but not for others? These sorts of comments would be more apt if we had any hard information on the expansion.
In the second paragraph we have a return to the singleplayer argument. I direct you to my previous comment on that subject.
Thankfully that seems to be all you have to say here - which is good, because my Faulty Logic Detector is about to overheat. Anyone want to lay odds that Dark will return, totally disregard the posts in his absence, and repeat his same statements again?
Psst... This ran it's course quite some time ago.
Silly me...I assumed the discussion was ongoing, based on this thread's position at the top of the forum when I read it.
Weird, I was way more excited for a Diplo expansion than a Defence expansion.
not so sure now, but I'm trying to quell my enthusiasm.
@Will the Great - you can see the dates which people commented right above their post. you can see that for a good 20-something days, there was a gap broken only by a guy saying nothing related to the topic. It was pretty much closed. Not blaming you, though. Y DONT WE JUST STOP COMMENTING. no offense, anyone.
FFS.
