I got this in an e-mail and thought it should be seen here. Make of it what you wish.
I thought it was interesting. There was a lot more truth to it than I thought there would be. Although, if I understand, the only people who ever saw that policy were the car dealers, so IMHO Beck was being a little dishonest when he warned people not to go to cars.gov. But somebody in the gov. really screwed up that anybody ever saw, much less agreed to, that joke of a "privacy policy".
Threads like this, to me, demonstrate one disturbing truth: An alarmingly high percentage of Americans believe that at least one of the two major political parties are, inadvertently or deliberately, trying to destroy America.
Don't apologize . Just do more research next time.
As for the thread. I really hate reading these threads , because it makes me lose respect for people I normally hold to high regards
I'm not sorry you posted it, Wiz. I thought it helped deal with everything that's going on. I found many of the comments fascinating. I apologize if you feel I hijacked it. It wasn't meant as FUD, imho. You can't please everyone. Perhaps people learned about a topic angering and bewildering folks...perhaps not.
I find the current angry/paranoid atmosphere disturbing and unjustifiable.
I also agree with Karen. The fact it wandered OT isn't necessarily a bad thing. We are a Community. The freest and most respectful around these days.
Man, i knew i shouldn't have clicked "submit". lol.
OMG...if you see something with your own two eyes it MUST be true!!!!!!!
Whatever happened to the adage..."Don't beleive anything you hear and only half of what you see"?
Second-hand experience cannot be trusted,
And first-hand isn't as 'correct' as often as you'd "like" it to be.
Grow balls....social awareness....and a brain.
It helps....
it's called Research. Something that's not done enough
That stuff is in the version of the bill that PASSED through the senate committee, so don't say it isn't anywhere. Suppose that it is; what is your view on imposing dietary and lifestyle choices on citizens? You didn't answer that.
President Obama has said himself that he wants a single-payer system, and that means the government. He is sly enough to know that he can't get it all at once, as he has also stated. The people that are screaming have read from the proposed bills, and are making specific complaints by reading passages to their congressmen, who from appearances, often haven't read it themselves.
I like your idea of tort reform, and unnecessary visits, some of which are necessitated by the fear of malpractise suits.
Some CEO's are worth millions of dollars, but to me most of them aren't. Still, it's up to the shareholders to rein them in. The company belongs to the people that bought the shares, not me or you or the government.
I'm curious why you don't want to deal with insurance companies directly. Does it have anything to do with them imposing conditions on how you treat patients? You've been around a long time, probably before insurance. How did all that start, and turn into what it is today?
Thanks.
I'm with the Doc on this, except for the unjustifiable part. There's a lot of heat generated, but like he says, some of it is indeed interesting, and we can learn things.
willi: read my #68. I addressed that food, etc. stuff. I say if you want to do unhealthy things, do them...but pay a higher premium for that 'privilege'. Just like car accidents.
Also, nothing has passed a committee yet. There are a bunch of proposals. There's the gang of 6 negotiating. Really.
Kona ive got more shit wrong with me than I care to list, I have Zero insurance, and am not getting any better so don't try to tell me I'm trying to stop people like 'you' from getting care, I'm in the same freakin boat.
I'm just not going to hold my breath for Obama to come and save me. especially not with the same system that has ruined healthcare systems from one side of this planet to the other. Good luck getting any significant improvement in your care. I just don't see it. Really it's all moot as the bill as it was initially layed out will not pass. Obama support accross the board is plummeting amongst amricans and its for a reason, He is not who they voted for and now everyone is finding out.
Honestly some of the comments here have been a little snide and spiteful imo....Political discussion is disgustingly partisan, everyone is a knowitall, makes me wish I hadn't posted at all.
The whole point is I have no health care. It has nothing to do with making it better.

You are wrong. I have a copy of the bill. Here's the link to the committee web page:

My question wasn't about insurance premiums; it was about an organization like Acorn being empowered to impose dietary and lifestyle choices on citizens and workplaces? That would mean in practise forcing you to stop smoking or eating popcorn or making you exercise-whatever. This is the kind of thing that has people justifiably up in arms. The quotes in my post are from the bill. It isn't a work of fiction; it's in THE BILL THAT WAS PASSED BY THE COMMITTEE.
1. It has no number, therefore it isn't a Bill. It's still being negotiated.
2. What's wrong with having information about healthy choices being disseminated? That's called Preventive Medicine, and Education. It also talks about surveys to evaluate if it's working. That sounds awful....like smoking/tobacco cessation. Doctors shouldn't do that. Never. Nor should they inform people about better food habits and exercise. No one needs that stuff.
I really don't understand what you're objecting to, but I have to get ready for work....pm me, ok?
Lets inject some humor, and see how many sheeple get pissed off.
Der Fuhrer Obama wakes up one morning and takes a shower. He gets out and looks at himself in the mirror. "Holy Shit!" he yells. From the top of his head to about his shoulders, he is white. He calls his personal (paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of honest, hardworking AMERICAN CITIZENS) physician in and says WTF! The doc checks him over, takes his temp, all that happy horseshit and then he mixes up something and gives it to him instructing him to drink it. Der Fuhrer does and promptly spits it out yelling "This tastes like bullshit!". The doc says, "It is. You're a quart low."

Like... oh my God.. I'm like totally like surprised n like stuff
messiah1...you are my hero of the week.
I don't believe President Obama has said that, but candidate Obama sure as hell did. He changes his spots so often that you can't tell what the hell he really stands for. Now, before you Obamanites get your panties in a twist I can tell you that I would say the same thing about any other person sitting in his seat. They are all worthless liars.
All politicians are the same regardless of their party. What just sickens me to no end is the fact that these people will not give us true representation. Honesty is nothing more than a word to them. "By the people and for the people" has long since died, if in fact it ever existed in anything more than printed words. At the end of the day it doesn't matter one bit what WE think or feel. The politicians and those in power are going to do what THEY want to do. I've heard clips of various senators and congressional members ( both parties ) state in no uncertain terms that they don't care what their constituants think. They will vote according to what THEY think is best.
It's too bad that " we the people" waste our time bickering back and forth about this kind of thing. The politicians aren't supporting us. "We the people" only have each other for support....
Phoon, you hit the nail square on the head.
So much of what our so called representation do is meant to keep 'We the People' bickering with one another.
It would seen that no matter the time of day or in what light we view them, a Politician will always be a Politician. That's why we keep coming up on the short end of everything.
Quoting DrJBHL, reply 61@Dr.Gonzo:BTW, folks...Just heard that Beck's been forced to take a week off for calling the President a racist.
I couldn't find anything on that. There's some things on sponsor's possibly removig their ads.

I'm sure that there will be a lot of screaming, but it's hilarious.
I can buy that. It's an act
I'm getting the impression that you don't want answer the question. Nobody's objecting to the dissemination of useful information. Read the language: “for the implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of proven evidence-based community preventive health activities in order to reduce chronic disease rates, address health disparities, and develop a stronger evidence-base of effective prevention programming.” and assessing and implementing worksite wellness programming and incentives. Do you see the word implementing? That means to carry out something, not advise.
Here's more:
In carrying out subparagraph (A), the eligible entity shall, with respect to residents in the community, measure--"(i) decreases in weight;"(ii) increases in proper nutrition;"(iii) increases in physical activity;"(iv) decreases in tobacco use prevalence;"(v) other factors using community-specific data from the Behavioral Risk Surveillance Survey; and "(vi) other factors as determined by the Secretary [at HHS]."
The word measure also requires an action that requires contact with someone. Look what they will be doing. They'll be required to have regular and frequent contact with a person, which will require an enormous amount of people who will cost a fortune to maintain. That's how they are going to save money?
Well, yes, but Fox is a more constant source of stupid. Plus they had the Mass Effect scandal.
I heard it was: doc (who me?) blew in his ear...O said, "Why'd you do that, doc?" doc said, "A refill".
willi...it'll all be done thru my new Program: "Cash for Chunkers".
When you first posted this, you quoted "It's purpose is to promote 'healthier school environments,'" - I had completely forgotten about the fact that Kristy told us about the note they sent home with Kylie.
The public schools, (places that are constantly applying for grants), seems like a perfect place for this sort of (possible) bill to work, and since they ARE educational institutions, it seems completely reasonable and appropriate for them to measure, and instruct, and implement healthy living resources to the students! I truly WISH this sort of program would have been in place when I went to to school. The way it was, I had to wait until I learned for myself at age 35, how to cut out the fat in my diet (I was chubby all my life, and my parents kept pushing "The Army Diet" on me, which was completely WRONG for me), and how to exercise within my target zone.
I don't think you realize what kind of a fantastic program this could be! If, from grade-school level, at-risk kids could be taught what they need to be healthy and normal, that would cut down on the incidences of bullying and harassment that takes place at the Jr. High and High School levels, which would keep a lot of kids from dropping out! It maybe would have targeted my kid and prevented the suicide attempt that took place a couple years ago.Agreeably, this is certainly NOT what the founding fathers had in mind when they constructed the constitution, but then neither is our current military, or the Federal Reserve! But it's not the big, power-hungry, monster that you're afraid is going to dictate to you, how you will manage your day, either. Sometimes we just have to take a deep breath, put your hysterics on the back-burner for a moment, and face the beast head on and make a reasonably assessment as to it's actual threat level.
