This is the story of the last of the Babylon 5 mod-efforts. It's goal, to prevent another failure, by creating a place to solve our problems collaboratively. Its a port of call, home away from home, for modelers, texturers, programmers and sound engineers.

Release 0.54.1 Full Download for Rebellion 1.95+& Patch 0.54.2
NEW - Balvarin Carrier and Minor Factions fix!
Installation Guide:
Sometimes the in-game mod loader can be a bit funky so if you can't see the mods you've installed or something isn't working then enabling the mods via the 'EnabledMods.txt' file in your 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder where you installed the mods to is the other alternative. It should look like this to work:
TXT2SinsArchiveVersion 194Version 0enabledModNameCount 2enabledModName "SotyrRemastered"enabledModName "SinsRemastered-v0.95b"

That might be the problem! Our techs don't unlock things most of the time (there are many that just improve or enable things but do not unlock entity files)
So... It should be possible to enable a tech entity file that has a precursor tech path. For example a new ship design after both a weapon and an armor incremental tech. Won't work for all techs but could increase the AI's odds if the most important military techs are so aligned...
Darvroth
That's the basic idea behind the tech chain mentioned earlier. It can work for all techs, either in a slow "research this eventually" or quick "GET THIS NOW OM NOM NOM" fashion.
Soooo....
Minbari research is done, but I don't know if I will be able to restructure or even test Vorlons and Shadows before christmas. Nevertheless, your christmas present should arrive on time.
You have a present for us? Are we going to like these?
...it's a compulsion.
...and I miss G'kar.
Don't know... Depends on how much time you want to waste this christmas
And man I miss Andreas Katsulas too.
Yeah ... Katsulas was awesome.
TobiWahn, that is great news. Cannot wait to see the fruits of everyone's labor!
Wish I had more time for the labour. Real life work took too big a toll on my spare time. Just kep in mind - there is no, absolutely no balancing yet. The research is a very early draft and the AI barely researches anything besides ships, modules and pacts (and even those not reliably).
Most research will have a blank icon as we have not had time nor the specialist for that yet.
No minidump I would have noticed for now (partly due to the fat that there are few new abilities included, one or more of them seemed to have caused havoc in one of the previous versions, but the most important nes are in for now)

now on to a new 12+ hour shift...
I hear you there ... been working 50+ and 60+ weeks. I have some contract work piled up and then the next thing on my list are a few models for B5. I've gotten fairly fed-up with my SolidWorks surface modeling abilities. Surface modeling with this program is like pulling teeth. I much rather prefer Catia. Are there any good free software (exclude blender as I am looking for easy to use) Otherwise ... I'll plod along with SolidWorks some more. I think I can export in 3d .dxf files but everything else doesn't convert directly for use. I also have no way to do meshes.
Well, i am without job ( full one ) since half October but seeking job take time too...
Just finish to see again every series and films related to the B5 universe... have now over 5.3 gb of data ( only screenshot of the B5 station )... know where weapons are located, know where the numerous light are located... and unfortunaly, now i know how badly was made my B5 station model show previously in these topic... will try to salvage it or will make a new one from scratch...
Well, i use wings3d who is free, good and easy to use... very minimal software who have everything needed for modeling/segmenting/UV for sins and nothing more...
A other free and enough easy to use 3D software is Art of Illusion ... Have plenty of function like any pro 3D software... most of them directly incompatible with sins... like nurbs, bolean, isosurface, animation ( texture and mesh ), procedural texture, photon scattering surface, transparency, etc... good choice if you plan to model for other game that sins, by example a game who need a skeleton for animation or who use transparency level for canopy ( in sins, transparency become a hole )...
I'll try to download and take a look at wings3d over the holiday break. I would aquire the Catia software but I don't have the funds for it and am not willing to pirate it. So free it is to be.
^ This is an understatement. Job seeking is hard.
Well, the wings3d download will not be a problem... it is only 8.7 mb in size... and this include the Erlang interpreter...
If you are more in the animation and special effect, take a look at http://www.openfx.org/about.html ... it is a old software and so it is very fast on actual hardware... almost real time for model animation with fx effect and physic on my own computer...
A last one, http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/ , is perfect for check and correct any model problem... these one is not really easy to use... but since you will use only a few of the function, you don't need to learn all the software... once you know what function to use, it become easy...
As for Catia, it is a CAD software... not really for create 3D model for game but maybe perfect if you wish create real spaceship...
It's the hardest job there is. I always hated to do that.
Lol yes I create 3d models all the time in SolidWorks here at work. I used to use Catia and NX3.0/5.0 at college quite extensively. Catia is easier to surface model in than any other program I've run across. It also has some more output options that other programs like 3dsmax can read. SolidWorks is ... very limited.
Thanks all! I'll take a look at the Wings3D software over the holiday weekend.
Each software have his strong and weak side... and it is why i don't limit myself to a single software... yes, wings3d is easy to use but in some case, a pre-model made in a other software can make the life more easy...
A other free software, called topmod 3D... very useful for make basic complex shape in a few minutes... look the first video at http://sites.google.com/site/topmod3d/ ( place for download the software too since the original site is down )... for see the software in action, transforming a basic cube in a complex shape, go to http://tugendbol.de/topmod/just_one.html ... beware, it is not a modeling software but a topographic software... can be useful for create the star trek crystal entity or the alien sphere who have attack Florida...
A other problem with wing3d is that it become slow or crash when you made a model over 50k poly... for more complex model, i make the piece in wings3d but combine them in K-3D who support million of poly...
Point is that there is plenty of free 3D tools around... sure that one will please you... Blender is well know because it is the only historical 3D modeler from Linux... but since the begin of these century, you have a plenty of other choice ( free one )...
Due to your history and experience with CAD software, before test any other 3D software that i have speak about before, try "freeCAD" ( plenty of screenshot at http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/free-cad/index.php?title=Screenshots )... what wikipedia say about "free-CAD" :
"FreeCAD features tools similar to CATIA, SoliWorks or Solid Edge, and therefore also falls into the category of MCAD, PLM, CAx and CAE."
If i was trying to use FreeCAD, i will find the learning curve being high but due to your personal experience with Solidworks and CATIA, i bet that you will fell home directly with these FREE software...
For make your choice a little more difficult : http://blog.dreamcss.com/design-tool/free-computer-aided-design-software/
PS : people need to learn seek on SourceForge and googlecode... there is plenty of free software there who are gold...
Thanks Thoumsin! I'll poke around and see what these softwares output as a file format.
Other than a 3D .dxf file (less than ideal) what are the main 3d model files that Sins uses?
Well, sins use only his special .mesh format... but when you make a model, best to use a universal format like .obj/.mtl ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.obj )... .obj format is accepted by almost all softwares...
Unfortunately a lot of the softwares that I use do not output .obj. That was why I was looking for some freeware. Does Wings3d Output .obj?
Wing3d, FreeCAD, OpenFX, Meshlab, topmod, ... all the software listed in the previous post can save in .obj format...
Remember, we speak about open source software and it is normal that one of the first format supported is the .obj format who is open...
Hope that Tobi forgive me for the few unrelated post... after all, if boshimi find the right software for him, it can only be beneficial for the mod...
wish the team a merry x mas and a more freetime havent happy new year:)
have much fun and thanks for the nicest b5 mod!
Update 0.42 ready. GameFront and Megaupload ready, origo andStrategy informer to follow
Merry Christmas!!
P.S.: I could not restructure the Shadow and Vorlon Research Trees in time, so they will follow later. No balancing yet, so things might be a bit off.
Awesome news TobiWahn! I'll download this and check it out!
I just tried the gamefront download and I'm getting a mini-dump during the enabling of the mod.
