So is it safe to say sins is le caput? I come here once in a while now and it seems like nothing is happening.
I hope IC has just given up on the Expansion and is putting resources into a sequel!
Systems instead of planets!!!
Normally, I'm the one leading the charge to defend SD, IC, and the like.
But at this point, I find myself almost in agreement: they need to do something. The last news item was 3 months ago, about the last patch. Even if they cant' release information on the next mini expansion (Why? By now at least a few of the features they plan on adding should be locked enough to say 'New Diplomatic System: Make friends and influence people!' or something equally non-descriptive) they should do something.
I just bought the game last week!!?? I certainly hope it is not dead!!
i just hope that after all of this waiting, they have prepared much for the next big thing that will blow us all away!
for the simpltons, yes, for the more intelligent (and perhaps pissed off?) members of the community, no. its a pathetic form of appeasement, which does not work any more. most people see the Developer badge and think, ooh, crap, now he's actually here i cant be upset that hes not talking anymore.
this thing of we cant give away info early is crap. yes, in some cases sure... but there has to be SOMETHING!!
to balance it, look, when Bungie released their E3 Beta for Halo 2, i was ecstatic! i could not wait! i dreamed about it for months on end, running it through my head again and again. then the game came out, and that level wasnt there... it had spiritual sucessors (which were crap), but not that level, and it broke my heart *tear*
so, on that note, yeah, IC keeping rather tight lipped is fine... but, there has to be SOMETHING set in stone that they can talk about... its just unbelievable the amount of secrecy...
Holy Crap. A dev. Stardock has a pulse. Not good. NOT GOOD. It's a sign of the apocalypse. Get your guns! Get your zombie survival kit! Aim for the head! It's a zombie! Only zombies can be lifeless for over 6 months and then come back to life like this!
I guess I'm in a very small minority that finds something exciting about not knowing anything at all. Sure it'd be nice to have pics or a video to look at and such, but it's not like you're getting something to play early.
I also don't like seeing movie trailors most of the time. It seems they ruin the movie for me... well sometimes. How many times do you go to a movie and realize 1: all the good parts of the movie were the parts they showed in the trailor and 2: you see something in the trailor (either a punchline or just a really cool scene) and wish that you hadn't seen it before you saw the movie?
Rez, you do have a point about the Halo 2 thing. Sucks that they tease you with something that doesn't even end up in the game. Maybe IC's keeping it so secretive because they don't want people coming back later saying "why'd you take this or that out????" I could go on forever refuting and arguing with myself on this topic though so I'll just leave it at that.
It would be nice to get an explanation of why they can't say more or something along those lines.
What I really want to know is... when is the next patch? I could care less about the next expansion, I wanna know what theyre doing about the current state of things. But I guess thats asking too much.
well you saw how difficult it was for them to release Ent 1.03... i wouldnt hold your breath
idn, maybe they are pulling out all the stops to get the next X-pack done, and taking your balance ideas (Deceiver) to incorporate into it...
or not...
we could all make wild claims and explanations... but only IC can give us the real reason. i for one am losing patience. im still going to buy the X-Pack based on IC's previous performance in terms of product quaility (if not Community Involvement Quality), but the fact the latter is so poor means if IC slips up even once in their product quality, ill be MUCH less inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt...
I think this is a genuinely tricky stage for IC, Diplomacy has to largely center around gameplay expansion which by itself isn't really a strong enough selling point. I think they are going to combine it 'with something else' to give it the presentation/wow factor/talking point.
My wild guess would be a campaign with no particular storyline other than diplomacy related objectives which acts as a nice bridge or trial to the 3rd mini expansion.
Making guesses serves as a bit of fun whilst waiting for the facts....
i seriously doubt this... a Campaign is no small feat, and if they were releasing this, they would be talking about it...
This isnt a great example, but i never really heard of Sins before i saw it in the shop... Im not sure if thats just me not being in the right place, or if it was IC not doing enough in terms of publicity.
If i hadnt looked for game updates one day then happen to hear about Entrenchment, i wouldnt have heard of Entrenchment either, and what i heard about starbases and extra defenses etc really got me wanting to get the expansion.
if i was an outsider to Sins etc, and i wanted to know what there was to look forward to, i would not be impressed by what we know of Diplomacy
Will the 2nd expansion be online multiplayer worthy and will they address some of the issues in the online multiplayer game?
Will they patch up Entrenchment so that you can see Regular Sins games from it and seamlessly join them from Entrenchment? Will Diplomacy allow you to see Entrenchment and Regular Sins games and seamlessly join them?
Will we ever get auto-download for custom maps or at the very least have optional custom map packs that can be downloaded from Impulse?
I have to wonder why the Devs pulled the "Not every developer gets involved on forums like this" card when they were incredibably involved when the game first came out!
You can't go cold turkey like that for six months and not expect some relapse by the community!
Back on topic: you can bet your ass I'll be reading quite thoroughly what changes are being made in Diplomacy. Between college/boozing/school work and Sins, diplomacy needs to be quite enticing for me to choose the latter.
On asking the question on the IRC, I received the reply 'Soon'.
Hell yeah tey better be rolling on gold brick when they release it.
Yup. I'm happy to buy if it's good. If not, I'll save my money and voice my displeasure at IC's silence and lack of communication.
Only that Blizzard usually does supply regular info on their games.
qqmoar plz kek ty. I guess they don't care.
Well gold bricks might be misleading. The better fix the balance. No baance fix no buying. That's were the gold is at.
The amount of senseless whinery in this thread is astounding. I suppose it's good that people care about the game, but they'll give info when they're ready.
I have a hunch PAX will be rather enlightening.
It seems liek it will be but will they give us the info here as well.
Annatar11 understands one of the reasons
Of course. Annatar knows all.

I think you'lll find that interesting, everyone.
I won't tell you my source for how I found it, I want to keep it secret
EDIT: Double post, sorry.
gotta love that two way ass-kissery...
and, of course, those of us who dont live in a location where we can go see PAX, miss out and have to wait for the secondary sources like youtube and stuff huh? yippee, i feel like such a valued customer...
though, of course, it was SO DIFFICULT to actually say that somewhere? "We are being silent because we want to surprise you all at PAX and E3 and whatnot..."
A surprise with a hint is much better than a surprise by itself, because without the hint, some of us may miss out entirely... well done guys [/sarcasm]
This thread is hilarious.
