Skip right to the giant letters and bold words if you don't like to read lots.
First off, I have absolutely nothing against 'noobs' (or to put it more accurately, simply 'inexperienced players'). I was a noob. You were a noob, we all sucked at one point and fed enemy teams wonderful items and upgrades. I don't mind a new player (one with very few total games under his/her belt) coming into a game of mine. I like to teach and coach and give friendly advice in-game, even to opponents.
Secondly, I do not consider myself a 'pro' or some other label that indicates I'm proud and think I can pwn you. But sometimes I'm in a competitive mood and want an even, challenging game. Thus I set out to host one. I usually make game titles like "US 3v3 *Pro's only*" or "US 3v3 NO NOOBS" just to try and make my intended point clear and simple. Then I sit and wait in the game lobby to see who joins. And usually, unless I'm sick and tired of spending time doing it, and decide to leave the teams' balance to fate (always a bad idea), I alt-tab to check people's stats, to make sure that (whatever their win percentage) they at least have 50 or so games played. I want a fun, interesting game, not a slaughter for one team (even if I'm on it; that's no fun either). Then I observe things like this happen:
A. A player joins who has played 10 games or less.
B. A player joins with around 20 games played total, 17 of which were losses, and claims to be a 'Pro.'
C. A player like either A or B joins, I tell them why this isn't the game for them, they say nothing and don't leave, or argue, and I am forced to boot them.
D. A player like C joins, I tell them why this isn't the game for them, they say nothing and don't leave, or argue, I therefore boot them, and then they come back yelling at me for what a jerk I am.
So I ask my fellow players and hosts this: WTF?
I've talked to fellow waiting players in-lobby, and below are some things I've heard as explanations. Let's discuss whether these are true. Er, you can discount the third one, I'm pretty sure that's not generally true. ^^
What gives? Let's share thoughts and maybe we can all understand our fellow players a little better and be better and more efficient game hosts.
Is someone deleting post in this thread?
we are trying to get a 4on4 going atm. title "4on4 NO noobs".
we are kicking people for around 30 minutes now... -.- all with real pro stats: 1/9, 11/42, 7/16 etc. pp.
so apparently we have 3 choices now:
A: play with noobs, what makes us badasses
B: constantly kick people and wait forever, probably going to get white hair, before the game starts...
C: quit the game and play something else
so, what shall we do?!
set up a password
go into the chat channel and invite people with decent records
or
obviously someone with a 11/42 record doesnt think they're a noob, so be more specific in the title:
>60%WIN & 50+ games ONLY
Just because there is no intent, does not give them a free pass as being an unreliable teamate.
The "kind" that would be concidered the most polite player in this game? Gzzz, u don't even know the community and begin with delusional atitudes. But hey, I don't play the game in 2 weeks or more. Pick a day, and a GMT time, lets test your metal.
I'd say the majority of the problem is that (1) there are not enough decent players out there and (2) there aren't enough players out there for the beginners to get better with.
And I'd like to add that the top people on the ladder are also the ones who glitch disconnect the most.
Disagree/Disagree. Now that the host disconnect exploit appears fixed, highly ranked players are finally playing against each other more. Some are still holding out, but believe me, just beating up on people who are not as familar with the game loses its fun. I personally know >50 solid players that are on most hours of the day. And all a beginner has to do to get better is keep playing the game. I am willing to help out individuals get better if they'd like and have done so multiple times in the past. I was a beginner at one point too .
Please be aware that there was a host disconnect exploit that was documented in great detail. This was confirmed to exist prior to the last hotfix (approx 2 weeks ago). There are no guarantees that the bug has been crushed, but I'm pretty decicated to finding out if its still out there, and I don't see evidence to indicate that it still exists at this point. Please search the forum for host disconnect exploit and you will find multiple threads (at least 2 by me).
I didn't check your stats impossible, but if you are new and looking to learn some things, please add me as a friend and I will gladly get a few games in with you - win or lose.
haha, what you all don't seem to understand is that the host quit exploit is still perfectly alive and well. you all just don't know how to do it. another fun thing---------you're all bad. get a premade, get good. this game is so easy, there's no reason not to be top-tier after a week or two of playing.
it is. would u like a medal?
We get medals?
Well, I do not consider myself a pro, i wouldnt even go so far as to say im very good. I think im a decent player and i know i'm better than alot of players and i'll join "good players" matches but i do my darndest to avoid pro games as i simply think that should mean "best of the best top 100 (not by rank mind you but skill in general)".
I'm sure it is frustrating having players equall to my skill or less joining those games because i think everyones well aware a teams only as strong as the weakest player.
However, there are times when i'm feeling particularily cheeky and i'll try to challenge players like pacov especially when hes got his 3 man premades up (cant handle 4v4 + on my PoS comp) in that i can not blaim noobs who want to gauge thier skills against the best of the best. Who doesnt want to be able to measure thier skill and theres no other way to do that than go against top players. Heck thats why i know about where i fit in the community.
beating up on pacov is fun
I played several games yesterday where the other team/host left the game. "In-Game" I got the victory screen, complete with super-speed-bashing whatever was around me for a few seconds. When I go online to see my stats, counted as a loss. I assume this is the host-exploit. Whatever it is, its still not working as intended.
Haven't hosted "pro" games (hopefully, "yet"), but so far my observations tend to the following :
From the amount of complaints here, it would seem that "pro only" games attract newbies.
I guess we've come full-circle.
Beating up on you is more fun for me http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/854189/player/28414/. But you guys kicked our butts today
Sorry I missed this earlier, Jongalt. I can easily admit that a high win percentage has a alot to do with playing with people that you know and play well with. I can only speak for myself here, but to me, the amount of games played means quite a bit. For instance, if someone has a 90% win rate, but only played 10 games, I wouldn't be all that impressed. If I check stats, I always look at total games played. With a 37.9% rate like you mention, Jongalt, I personally wouldn't ask you to leave or kick you from a game I was hosting unless my team was challenged by another premade... and I certainly wouldn't kick you if I was Pugging and you were on the same or opposite team. There are plenty of great individual players without incredible stats... but if you have played 10 games, lost all but 2 of them, and tell me you are pro by joining a pro game... well, then...
Regarding your specific problem of not having enough people to play with regularly (premade or teammates, etc), I guess I don't understand. When I started playing (before I had a premade or anything like that), I'd join a custom game. If my team won that custom game, I'd wait and see if the game's host re-hosted. If he did, I'd rejoin. I make a mental note of his name or the names of anyone on the team that strike me as solid players and chat them up during the game. If they rehost, I rejoin. Eventually, I start getting to know who the good players are and the not as good. And that turns into a team. I started to team up with Kassaum and Kokujin (who haven't played in awhile) and now have about 6 different people that I'd consider part of my team. All that said, I'd be happy to play some games with you on the same team. Hopefully we'll get a chance sometime this week!
Quoting some1 "I will be Back"... just waiting on the new DG... but maybe even sooner.
as for the last part of pacov's post. EXACTLY, thats how u find a "premade". And belive me, the vent chat is AWSOME.
Pacov: "Shade I will mute you man, you tricked me"
Shade & Kokujin: LoL'ing
Priceless moment.
well, i opened some "EU - 100%+" games lately and there are still plenty of those noobs coming in...
so that wont help ^^
Maybe if you set up a password that only good players will know. I mean, if you are a n00b, chances are that you are not going to spend time on the interwebs to surf the forums and find out what the password is. Just a thought.
Damn, dig for that one for awhile?

back2back
hehe - only sexpert I know...
Im a reasonably new player, but i have found that a game is won or lost 90% by the ability of the team fight with some cohension.
Now when it comes to noobs I hate it when I hear people say they only got the game today or something, personally I consider doing the SP game IN FULL (all tournaments) a minimum requirment for even your first online game. If they wanted to put a minumum requirment in I would make it that. You must have completed the single player on at least hard before you unlock that character for mulitplayer.
Regards Noob games I used to join those (being a noob), but the game was simply won or lot by not being on the team with the biggest feder.
So last night I decieded to sod this larking around and just start joinging pro games, then proceeded to win them all. Now admittely i was playing with someone with a very high ladder rank. But it was team cohension that did it. Basic stuff like making sure you always bring more of your DG to a fight then they have. Locking the right flags, getting the right upgrades at the right time, etc etc.
It was'nt that I was a crap player before, then suddenly I got good. More that I was a team player, who was playing pot luck as to if I joined a team that played as a team. As soon as I found a group that could play I did great.
What i find insuferable about this game however, is the deficits I note compared to my other great love Left4Dead. I.e. lack of a friendslist and VoIP. I can't imagine playing Left4Dead with random PUGs, with no teamwork anymore. Why on earth are these things lacking from Demigod?
Introduce those and your have a far far better game.
I used to play on game ranger with my friend and we totally dominated every 2 man team after our "noob phase", we played well over 200 games under many names but we should be remebered as Gavatron and Mortack/BLaNKMiND
I then went on to play the official online verion but my friend didnt, i joined many games with feeders on our team and my win loss took a battering.
I see a lot of names that were on game ranger that never defeated me and my mate hosting pro games, and when i join them they say my stats are not good enough. i then tell them who i am from GR and they still kick me, either they dont beleive me or they feel the fear ! i wont name any names
Anyway i now have a good bunch of allies online now and my win loss is improving a lot...
I look forward to some good high level games again =]
Is it possible to launch a game via the command line so it load into a particular game (I.E. demigod.exe -multiplayer (Gamename) (Password) cause then you could design a firefox extension or other pluggin to handle via a website easily.
The community for this game isn't huge, but it's big enough to make it necessary to have a good filter when trying to quickly field good matches. If you want to play with people who have records they want to protect then you need to build a good record of your own. It can be done without doing constant premades, but you need to pick and choose your games a bit. When I was playing I was more than happy to play on a team with 30% win rates, but I wasn't going to play with those guys against premades with 80% and higher win rates. I didn't exclusively play easy games, but I didn't play hopeless ones either.
Avoiding the horribly mismatched games isn't as difficult or time consuming as I assume most players think (based on how little they do it), and neither is making progress on the ladder if it's important to you to play with the kind of people who are trying to move up the ladder themselves.
Not that I'm not arguing that ladder ranking is a bullet proof skill rating, I'm just saying that you seem to want to play with people who value its limited appraisal of their skill and you are thus submitting yourself to its rating as well whether you realize it or not.
