SD released demigod version 1.10.122 on 8/6/2009. This hotfix release was expected to have fixed the host disconnect exploit/bugs. The specific bugs I am referring to are as follows:
The purpose of this thread is to track any instances of these host exploits still functioning or to provide details on any other types of host disconnect exploits. Polynomial and I conducted some intial tests after the hotfix was released. Here are the results of the tests. Please post additional information or examples with as much detail as possible.
Case for exploit #1 being resolved: Hosted a 3 humans vs 1 human game. The host is on the 3 man team and hits END GAME. http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/835911/player/22215/. This game only lasted 2 minutes, so the games official result was NA, but it did properly record the game as a loss for the host. Previously, there would not have been a full record of this game. It stands to reason that a game lasting > 3 minutes would behave similarly.
Case for exploit #2 being resolved: Hosted a 2 human vs 1 human game. The host is on the 2 man team and unplugs his ethernet cord after 3.5 minutes. The game persists as expected with AI taking over for him. After another 2.5 minutes, another player concedes to force the game to end. http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/835959/player/22215/. The interesting part of this is that the game showed up under my stats immediately as a win, but did not show up under the host's stats initially. I refreshed, looked the host up, looked myself up, looked him up again and there was still no record of the game under the host's ID. After 2-3 minutes, I looked the host up again and the record appeared. So, it looks like the original host disconnect exploit has been resolved! I'm not sure why it took so long for the host to have the game appear under his stats, but the game did appear and was tracked accurately.

If any of you get a desync now, please take a look at the contents of your demigod.log and see if you find any relevant details the next time it happens. You are best served to coy the log to a different location right after the desync occurs. Might be good to fire it off to support, but I'd love to see some of the contents here. Sad to say this, but I'm hoping for another desync in my game so I can get more details. Has anyone gotten the desync message in a 2v2 game?
That would make sense then. The game handles players dropping as concessions. So, to your game everyone else conceeded so that is what you reported. Does the hosts report take priority over any other players or does it just have higher priority because it was reported first?
I believe that the host starts out as the only person who is reporting stats. Perhaps he's assigned a value or seat of 0. From the example I provided a couple posts back, it looks like there is at least 1 other person that is selected to report the stats with another seat value perhaps of 1. Then, at the end of a game, perhaps some comparison occurs where it checks for the host. If the host is gone, it checks for seat 1. GPG had to have made some sort of coding change so that another player outside of the host can report the stats if the host is not present. I'm thinking that at game launch, a one person outside of the host is assigned seat 1... not sure if seat 1 is randomly selected or not. If the host quits and seat 1 quits, perhaps a desync occurs.
Too much of this is guess work. There are still some statisical anomalies and problems with reporting, but I not finding a reproducible exploit.

From what I think, everyone is reporting with Stardock the result of the match at the end.
But for not getting 3-4x the same thing, each match have an gameID that we can see with the web page opengames.asp
The problem with stats is maybe when someone can't handle the P2P and kind of disconnected from everyone but is still connected with stardock server. So what maybe happen is that everyone left but because he still connected with stardock, the match is recorded as a win.
I know that's the Stardock heartbeat pass though at port 443 (normally a SSL port).
something that maybe could help, is maybe setting 30sec disconnect windows instead of 10 secs.
Or any number safe enough for it to be disconnected from Stardock.
What is probably happening, is when the guy who have connection problem is being kicked out by the others automatically, the p2p is now gone and his router/modem or whatever can retransmit connection and thus far if coordinated right, he will still be connected as stardock and report as a win because all other will behalves as a concede for him. and since the other player take time to complete the game, The gameID must expire because it already have receive a winning condition.

I just had a desync and saved all relevant files. This had NO disconnects or apparent quits with me as the host. Just desynced out of the blue (even didn't have lag). I'll analyze the logs and let you know what i find. Might have been around the time that 1 person quit, but thats it.

And HeliaXDemoN - I'm sorry you have issues with high pings, but this thread is not about that. Please do some more searching if possible and you'll hopefully find a better thread (or just open your own thread). There is a /proxySomethingSomething switch that you can try. I play with people from Brazil regularly and have no issues.

Actually, I may be wrong... There just might be useful info in that log : it would seem that Spokuha desynch'd, but he was the last ejected.If we compare with other logs, we might spot a pattern (aka : bug).
Looks like someone conceded before the desync.
Wyatan - I'm guessing there's no record of this game in stats. Thanks for posting your log file. The more info we have the better.

The new way of handling desynchs seems kinda wrong (rushed ?) :
I've had desyncs where stats are kept and stats are not. I believe that the only reason we don't see a record for your game is because it was not possible to record the results... there has to be some rhyme or reason why some desyncs have stats and others do not.
Anyone from SD - should desyncs have stat reporting or not?

Really, it should be really simple to test for things like this. It's not game breaking and I don't mind the lost, but it feels really cheap to see a leaver wins when everyone else looses

Ok, this log might be interesting...
From the start, the game seemed a lost cause : their reg was good, ours was hopeless (kept sniping short range, so obviously oom when a snipe would have meant a kill, no mines, turned heels as soon as we had numeric superiority in a fight, etc...). Our towers were down, one of our portals was locked, they were leading 10-8 warrank... but then we managed an amazing comeback. We captured one of their portals, I scored a few kills, we regained map control, and we were about to win (all portals locked, giants knocking on their citadel's door) when... desynch.
I immediately suspected Bambr119 : he was their reg, had carried the game, losing it was the hardest psychologically on him, and... his stats showed 121 disconnects.
Well, turns out the log does show him as the source of the desynch.
On the other hand, I don't think he's an exploit-user, or he'd be a very poor one : his win/loss ratio doesn't tell that story.

I'm getting more confident that the desyncs are not being used as exploits. That said, desyncs can still mess up stats as they can either report nothing at all or report a win for 1 player (not necessarily the host). So, please keep tracking the desyncs as possible (and post logs) AND make sure you check to see if there is a record of the game.
OK, a new one, this time depriving ShakeNBlade from a probable victory vs his hated erebus + UB combo...Just as Tsl_Bug on our team got killed for the second time, we got the poll window (rage-quit by pulling the plug ?), and that resulted in a desynch, although turns out he was not the source of it (both Cynical and Dany report a desynch, but with the same checksum. And this log differs from the others, no ejection of players one by one).
Since he has a high deconnection ratio, like Bambr in the previous posted log, I thought I could see a pattern, but since he's not the direct desynch cause... I dunno...
