Proof See this youtube vid, and remember Demigod CAN become a great competitive game.
You mean it wasn't always perfect in every way?
yes i guess thats my point.
That's also proof that Any MMO can become a smash hit like WOW! Because no one expects the bar to be raised with each subsequent game...
Here's to DG getting bigger and better, in the same way
Pretty cool vid, but they forgot a lot of stuff, there has been much more changed than they showed in the vid.
At 3:05 in the vid is the reason why I don't think Demigod will last.
GPG doesn't seem to care at all.

Lets compare the old Starcraft and Demigod (my opinion):
Starcraft beta was like Demigod release or maybe Starcraft was better because they used the normal host-client connection.
Starcraft release was like Demigod today. Playable but many bugs, missing features and some balance issues.
Starcraft 1.08... possible Demigod 1.2 will be similar. At least both will have replays
The problem I see is that today games should be released like Starcraft was with patch ~1.10. All the features and problems were new to starcraft, but now they are known from other games. And, for example, replays are a must-have for online games today. (I guess that is the reason games get so expansive. SC2 have to be like SC is today and can't start new. (except rare bugs and small balance issues)).
Its too early to say if they do or do not care, give them some time, it taked quiet some time for the balancing changes to come for starcraft, it will take some time for GPG too.
True games today should have learned, but really give me a game that came as balanced as demigod right our of the box or with so few bugs, they exchanged the time they would have used to create features for time to balance the game better, i dont think theres that much of a diference, even by today standards starcraft is a gem, i doubt there will be a lot of games that will come out with everything that starcraft has now, it takes a lot to balance things out and work out all the bugs, its not something that can be done in the the alpha or beta stages of the game, but something its done in the course of time.
If Starcraft would be like Demigod:
- There would be 2 Races with the promisse to add at least one Race after release.
- Units would only cost resources one time and would be free to summon again after cooldown is ready.
- Tournaments wouldn't be possible because every second match has a crash.
- No one would play online because proxies make most onlinematches unplayable. So everyone would play LAN.
- Marines could build with 25% Speed of a SCV, could heal like a half Medic and would have a flamethrower attack with a 1% attack chance on hit.
- Protoss Carriers would be named Erebus and could heal their interceptors for 200HP/s for 10 seconds every 45 seconds.
Well played.

EPIC, rofl! Thanks for the laugh

Blizzard will be on charge of DG?
They care but they are not Blizzard.
Blizzard FTW.
.. ...
Oh no don't get me wrong BLIZZARD is the KING, but considering "Stardock" on the GPG/Stardock mix i have a lot of confidence in them. Blizzard has the expirience and i know Demigod might never be "THE" competitive game as starcraft is now, but still i just wanted to demostrate to all the people that say that "Demigod should have this", "Demigod should have that" or "is too late for Demigod now" that the Kings of Kings started as a humble peasent too.
Technically most kings started as princes, just saying.
As long as people remember "can" doesn't mean "has to" or "will". Also, SC just had a shedload of balance changes and battle.net improvements, there was relatively little changes to the underlying gameplay.
Considering the fact that Starcraft is of, if not the, greatest RTS game of all time as voted in the court of public opinion, comparing a three month old game to a ten year old behemoth and expecting semi-identical results is a little far fetched.
Blizzard is the exception to all rules.Stardock has the potential, and GPG is just well....GPG lol.
To be honest I think GPG will be the problem here.
Stardock has showed faith in all Products that wear their name and that they are willing to devote manpower and money for the success of their products.
It was an awsome work to remake the whole netcode in minimal time.
And that even if Demigod is more like GPGs game.
But GPG never talks with the community directly, which is essential with a competive multiplayer game like demigod.
Balancing, items, Skills thats all stuff that as to be discussed or at least there has to be a feedback on the player opinions.
Most of the minor problems come from GPGs part and not Stardocks parts imho.
The idol bugs was in since beta, sedna bug is still in, Balancing is done in absurd ways (take Unclean beasts nerf, he ways nerfed in any possible way but gopt spi+ooze buffed to the current OP form.).
And take Items & Heroes: The item system is flawed since beta too. Half of the items are useless or have stupid minor stats on it. 1% chances are still ingame.
And new demigods... this is not a singeplayer storymode game. It's competie multiplayer.
We don't need Demigods with a Tolkien worthy backstory, a 3 Month developed 3D Modell with motion capturing movement.
This game needs variety in it's Hero Roster. You can find a nice Background story and a nice visuall setting for every hero concept in retrospective. So it's imho very late to add 2 heros now. They should pull out 2 to 4 new additional heroes out in the next month after the releasxe of #9 and #10.
That way demigod would get some dynamic in its demigod cast. Add 4-6 more and you would finally get a great meta game.
What currently is done with demigod is not comparable to Starcraft.
What they currently do is to make the work that should have been done before release.
But like many said, I think thats how many games work these days
If it wasn't made by GPG I would agree with OP. Its a great stop gap game till the Q4 stuff comes around.
The optimal strategy of stacking HP isn't going to be changed by adding more demigods methinks.
A rethink and adjustment of about 50% of the items in the game is needed for there to be any strategic depth imo. Without any strategy there is no metagame.
Sure items are a great issue too, thats why I mentioned them
And i agree that there is little to no metagame currently.
Imho the problem with items is that you
1. have no means of upgrading and
2. Items bring many stats but those with little numbers.
3. HP is the most valuable stat you can gain whichis also supporte by %heal of Prietst.
4. Potting and Healing is way too easy which also supports HP stacking.
In dota you can hardly gain large numbers of HP while not sacrificing other parts extremly.
In demigod you can't get any strong attack modifiers.
In Demigod you can hardly stack dmg in a way that you could out dmg anyone.
In Demigod running + healing is a way too strong tactic.
But I also see large problems with the Heroes.
Im would like to see a "no doubles" mode like every normal DotA mode.
For that we need much more heroes.
And I would like to see any counter picks.
E.g. 2v2 Sedna + Unclean Beast is overpowered. The only chance to counter that would be mana burn imho (other means are not suitable because of cd of heal and amount of hp of the heroes).
But the only mana burn items are 15% chance on hit for 100 Mana which means lousy 15 Mana "burn" which you rarely apply and 300 Mana "burn" from Warlords punnisher.
If there would be a hero with Mana burn + a way to kill priests quickly it would be a counter aganst sedna.
That would make it a risky choice to pick sedna. Now there is NO RISK at all. But it would be a risk if your enemie has no Sedna.
If you solve that by adding a priest killer item and a mana burn item you would make Sedna obsolet, which is bad.
So currently imbalanced are imo:
- Idols You get nothing for killing them.
- Idol slots. & saving gold for Citadel Upgrades.
Because Assasins can only spend gold on 5 - 8 cheap items while Generals can spend gold on 3 more cheap items (=idols).
The money you get after your inventory is full is almost every time better spent on citadel upgrades.
Large items like mageslayer are way to expensive to get and you are better off with just filling all slots.
- Priests (strongest HP/sec, little mana costs, hard to get rid off, burst heal)
- HP stacking
- Spit+ Ooze Build Unclean Beast
- Minion Build on Erebus
- Team support Sedna
There are no real counters for those "tactics".
With +6 Heroes those 3 Heroes would be probably picked less compared to the others.
AND there would be hopefully some counters against them.
Items could solve that too, but heroes better imho.
Guys, Guys im not comparing the games, im comparing the situations, its not fair to say a game is bad so early on, its not fair either to say that a game should have ceartain features and then dismiss those features as irelevant just because they should have come out from the start. GPG is not a bad company, they are no Blizzard but even so i think they can take care of Demigod, i don't think they are bad enough to pull a Left 4 Dead on us especially when all the promises has come from frogboy himself.
Edit: i've been waiting for something like this, since we are discussing balance changes in such a "non-falming way" i will just like to add, i belive Hp stacking is not Opm but that other Stakings are Underpower, also items are supposed to offer alternatives to eliminate your weaknesess or at least help you with those, they dont do that, i guess they are playing to conservative with the items. Also i would like to say Rook should get more armor and more HP ........ Just kidding ......... but seriously QoT and Rook while not underpower seem to lack that little spark that would make them what they are supposed to be, especially rook, to be a tank he dies quiet easly.
All the starcraft and blizzard loving lol. Ever been to the WoW forums? yeah...and that if for monthly subscription.
Anyway, for all its sucesses starcraft also has a couple of flaws. There are features directly designed to make your micro/macro slower. There is even a disscusion in SCII to limit ui options:O.
There are many great features available to you once you register, including:
