Sims sells more than 800k
1. The Sims 3 (EA The Sims Studio, Electronic Arts) 2. The Sims 3 Collector's Edition (EA The Sims Studio, Electronic Arts) 3. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (EA The Sims Studio, Electronic Arts) 4. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard Entertainment) 5. World of Warcraft Battle Chest (Blizzard Entertainment) 6. Spore: Galactic Adventures (Maxis, Electronic Arts) 7. World of Warcraft (Blizzard Entertainment) 8. Spore (Maxis, Electronic Arts) 9. Empire: Total War (The Creative Assembly, Sega) 10. StarCraft Battle Chest (Blizzard Entertainment)
Dawn of war2 and Demigod is out of the top 20 this month.
How in the Nine Hells is Empire Total War on that list??! It's been a piece of crap since the day of its release; it's barely better than Rome.
What amazes me is that WoW is STILL constantly in the top10 games charts.
The Maxis/Blizzard monopoly continues...
ETW is better now they've released a few patches. I'm not surprised about DOW2 and Demigod, they've been out for months now, so you'd expect a reduction in sales.
Nah you got to patch it first!
Starcraft Battlechest is back? Wow!
Keep in mind that NPD doesn't measure digital sales. Demigod could be selilng well on Impulse and it would never show up here, whereas EA and Blizzard do most of their sales in retail.
Not that anybody can really match the twin juggernauts of WoW and The Sims, but still. NPD numbers are notoriously unreliable when it comes to PC games.
I am ever grateful that EA wised up at least for 5 minutes and didn't hose Sims 3 with anything other than a disk check. Sworn "no EA for you" gamer. For what I miss they publish there is another game I play that makes me forget all about what I missed.
I had never played the series and what finally pushed me to purchase it was the copy protection didn't install garbage on my system. By the way, runs on Windows 7 RC1 fine if you are curious.
Starcraft Battlechest? Game came out in '98 right? Sprites of the world take over!
Even not counting digital distribution SCBC in the list is quite amazing.
I had NO idea there were that many women playing PC games
How the HELL can World of WarCraft BattleChest still sell??? Just incredible....
Then we got Suckass Spore which I really got no idea who's buying....any takers..?
But there is SOME light in the world as StarCraft BattleChest is still being bought!
Seeing charts like this make me wonder where PC gaming is heading....Sims'n'Spore = NOOOOOOOOOOO
Got ETW for $25 on the special deal a few weeks ago, having waited forever to get it. Glad I only spent $25 on it. I've stopped playing it already, the bugs and feature lacks pester me to no end, even at patch 1.3. No AI naval invasions, naval combat messed up, diplomacy non-existent, etc. It's untolerable. The UI and game graphics are so much better than Medieval II, but the bugs and other problems make it unplayable.
World of Warcraft still sells because it's the most popular MMO on the market, by a country mile. When you have a group of players that big, there's a networking effect. Your friends are playing, so you try it too. Then you tell more friends, etc. It becomes self-propelling.
And yeah, Starcraft is some kind of crazy unstoppable zombie continuing to shamble across the land attacking everyone with 640x480 spirites and zerglings.
I play Sims 3 and played Sims 2. I played GalCiv II, Europa Univ III, and CIv IV. Sims is a fun game. People buy the game because it's fun to play. Last I check, not liking a game doesn't make it crap. I don't play WoW, but I know a lot, a lot of people who do. Guess what, I don't bitch and moan about that either. They've got games they like. I've got games I like and they are obviously selling well. As for Spore, not sure about that one. Only time i see blogs, articles, or messages about that game is still DRM related, well aside from the so caleld professional reviews that won't touch controversy that might cost them advertising dollars.
And as someone mentioned already NPD doesn't track the games that don't take up as many wal-mart shelves. Course if they don't separate so called casual games from the list when they do track digital downloads, I wouldn't be surprised to see a whole lot of them up there.
