Hey all,
I bought Sacred 2 on Impluse this weekend and I'm loving it. Other then the random maps of D2 I think it is better in every way. Any one else play both D2 and Sacred 2? What do you think?
Sammual
Woca use the internet since i can see you have it at your disposal.
Its been proven countless of times. And rootkits and spyware are just 1 issue. Activation limits are another. With some of the recent games come out using TAGES you cant even revoke a install with a uninstall. 3-5 installs thats it then you have to call or email some support department.
I say no thanks. I rather avoid the trouble and just pirate the game instead. Sad for the devs but they should have picked another publisher.
I know it's hard to believe, but if someone disagrees with you, that does not make them a baby. Some of the DRM schemes, Starforce, were not as simple as their developers claimed they were.
This is the only part of Diablo II I really liked. Building an assassin who had almost no castable skills, but who would permabash you into a wall and make you unable to attack? Priceless.
Its a pretty simple issue. I'm a paying customer. I refuse to have SecuROM on my computer. If companies insist on putting it on their products, I will not give them my money.
I had problems with Mass Effect PC due to SecuROM, and that was that. Never again.
@woca:
*ROFLOL* no comment.
On Sacred2:
Well, I played Sacred 1 and liked it. But from what I read so far about 2 I'm not very surprised Ascaron went broke...
Wow! Ascaron did go broke! Looks like Sacred is now owned by Deep Silver of Germany. The Ascaron devs seem to have started a new studio.
I did play D2 quite a bit, but never went over to Sacred because it was not different enough. Sacred 2 scared me off with the DRM.
Yep, same here...
If it wouldn't have been for a college pal of mine I wouldn't have touched Sacred 1 either for the same reason you gave.
Diablos story is hugely better than sacred 2s, I mean does sarcred 2 even HAVE a story? Beyond "Elves be bad!"?
Sacred does some interesting things with character stats and stuff but I found it too spreadsheet not enough fun. Your right about the graphics and annimations though. I love the look of my seraphim, shes so hot! I demand all fantasy females wear stilletto boots to the thigh! (ill happily wear them on my male chars too thigh length boots are just perfect for every occasion)
The weapons look really nice too, especialy the halberds. Get the full set of the "of the celest" outfit and a silver and gold halberd = pole dancer!
Seriosuly though, I got to the humans at lvl 20ish and the orcs were all grey. Just did the main quest from there (the side quests really are boring) and went striaght to the end no problem finshed at lvl 30 ish. The game looks great but has NO substance.
Diablo 2 is better from my experience
These RPGs and Hack/Slash games need:
1) a random world generator.... I'm tired of these fixed maps.
2) an actual living world... one where the Evil Bosses are not stupid couch potatoes waiting for you to kill them!! This is so stupid.
3) more types of buildings and shops... I'm sick of only having three types.

Sacred 2 has a lot of pretty terrible elements; the horrible voiceacting (although I think the over-the-top Inquisitor and Shadow Warrior VA is pretty funny) and the nearly non-existent story that only bothers to tell the player whats happening around halfway through. It also has no respeccing and totally worthless tooltips; the 'customise your moves' idea is good, but when you have a choice between 'make it damage more' and 'make it damage more often', with no numbers, it's totally impossible to make an informed decision and you are pretty much guarranteed to break your first few characters. The forums are full of people congratulating the devs on preventing respeccing, because it's 'better' this way... oh wait, they went out of business.
There actually IS a story, but it's clear that each region was written by a different guy, so the noob zone has you getting teddy bears and delivering bags of worms instead of saying 'xyz is going on, your plan is to abc the jfk'. In Diablo everything you do drives towards the endgoal, which is obvious at the beginning; until you get to the Orc zone in Sacred 2 the plot provides no real impetus at all and what 'plot' exists is totally free of context. The inquisition wants me to do what why for whom? WHO KNOWS?
Half the classes are bland horribleness and the other half are seriously overpowered (High Elf = you are the winner). The robodog, the most jarring and interesting character, has the worst voice-acted intro of the 21st century and kinda sucks early on due to loot drops.
Ironically, it's much better on 360. You lose the magic grass circle that follows you around and have 12 moves/weaponsets available at all times (instead of the totally retarded 4 of each in the PC version) and the MP/coops actually works. It's a fun little hack-em-up, but the terrible PC launch (ie, 6 months to get working) and the year-long delay for console release means they totally missed their opportunity to cash in on 'no Diablo game'. I too prefer much of Sacred1, even if half the characters were dumb or broken.
