First off, I must say kudo’s for your constant communication and posting in these forums. I’ve never seen anything like it in any game and it is definitely commendable. I understand its probably taxing for you to do so when you see so many complaints and quotes trying to cut up whatever you post. Despite all that, I really sincerely hope you can thicken your skin and continue to at least update us in the journals and push to make demigod a better game.
You are the shining hope for many on this forum who play this game like it or not, and lately your posts have brought moral way down for the few left that are what you might call “good community players”, at least that’s the way I feel. I know it must be hard to be in your shoes, but I’m hoping that you can turn a deaf ear to the complaints and continue to give hope to those looking to you for the direction of the game. I know recently I have seen your posts, and it sure seems to be saying that you are going to focus on Elemental and stay away from this toxic community. That may be the best decision for you, but it will really cut off even more players from Demigod.
I’m going to refrain from posting about what could be, or what features should be, but I think we all can see this game has great potential, please do your best to continue to make it great and keep boosting the moral if you can. I don’t want to take any of your posts out of context or say any more at this point, I’m just hoping that maybe in some small way you might see this and realize there are a lot of people looking to you for their source of the direction of this game, I used to think “hey it will get there” but now I’m starting to wonder if even you have lost hope and moved on to working on other things. In the scope of things, its not a big deal, people will move on, but Demi is a great game, it still has a chance to be even greater.
Thanks for reading.
Kudos indeed. I too haven't seen support from a publisher like this - so open, frank, and, well, cool! - and it has made me interested in Stardock/Impulse far more than I would have ever been before.
Gaming forums always attract the most negative and most annoying, and gaming communities are filled with kids that have never experienced the "real world" - nevermind the gaming industry. I used to be a moderator for an online game forum - Battrick - and have experienced the insanity of having struggling game development and a frustrated community.
There is definately a lurking silent - working, paying, college class taking - majority that you've won over. Please don't give up on us!
I total agree!!! PLEASE FROGBOY KEEP POSTING!! I love your post about Demigod!!! Ingore those crazy people. I have never seen such support from gaming company like yours. Its the BEST!!!!
Stop egging Frogboy on. If he doesn't enjoy posting here he shouldn't do it. It's not his repsonsibility. I would much, much rather communicate with another GPG/SD representitive who can just have a polite conversation with Frogboy about the pulse of the community than for who appears to be our most important ambassador to GPG to get sick of the game completely.
Let him go. He doesn't like it here and while his insight and influence may be irreplacable, hopefully we can still get them through whichever employee fills the void and keeps in touch with him. I'm sure he'll still have opinions, but that doesn't mean he needs to be the one who presents them to us.
I thought this too. But never forget, that many games where released ARENT BUGGED OR IMBALANCED( In earlier times...!). I mean today there arent so many of this kind. but for example on a console (N64, Gamecube and so on...) there was no support - Because there was no need! The thing I wanna say is, that if they made the games without bugs and network problems, there wouldnt have been a need for the last 2-3 months of support. Got it?
But the fact is, if this were any other publisher who came out with the game, we wouldn't SEE the changes. And that's what makes it such a feat.
You have absolutely no idea about the difference in complexity between making games for consoles and computers, have you? Compare making a product where every comsumer has exactly the same equipment (consoles and older computers) to a situation where almost every consumer has different equipment (todays computers) and different OS and software. It's not easy.
That said; there were problems at release, and there still are, but they are working on it.
First of all, let me say SD/Frog have been fantastic on a product that is... great but flawed.
And as for the above poster saying console v PC and different hardware... the biggest problems with DG aren't to do with hardware specs.
It's to do with huge gaps in the multiplayer side of this multiplayer game.
It's GPG-issue (since they developed the game) with SD doing a stirling job in trying to patch stuff when it really needs GPG to put stuff in (that should have been there in the first place).
Developing for console has its own challenges, I don't think developing for PC is regarded as being much more difficult if at all. There are a number of hard restrictions you have to operate under when coding for consoles that don't often appear when making a win32/directx game.
TIA to however steps in for frogboy, I'm hoping for more demigod bugfix and content updates, and I'll still recommend the game to friends.
Have you ever seen any GPG representatives in here? If Frog goes he takes with him a lot of people who had hopes for the game and its future. He will ultimately do what is best for him, but in the end if he has lost hope in the future of Demi and its growth I'm not sure how any of the players with no insight, knowledge, or capability to do anything about the game are supposed to keep holding on.
I just feel stranded because of the time investment I made due to the promises made by Frogboy. Now he simply gives up because a few people acted like a-holes? If this was EA (and this is a hypothetical, because I refuse to buy EA games anymore), I would have given up after an hour of playing this game, knowing that it would be hopeless to expect it to be fixed. Stardock obviously actually cares, unlike EA, but the end result to me is the same/worse when I have a bunch of time invested in a broken/incomplete game that has now been given up on.
And there are always people on one of these posts insulting frogboy or GPG. I may not be entirely happy with it but name a game that works perfectly and has absolutely no exploits and you can talk crap all you want. Thing is startdock ITSELF is doing an absolutely great job fixing and adding contenet to this game.
And I don't think frogboy gave up. He's just lowered his posting. Everytime he posts he gets attacked brutally. And it's not like they are insulting stardock. THEY ARE GOING DIRECTLY FOR FROGBOY.
How is it going to help if you won't give up the insulting? Give up trying to insult them to make yourself feel better and create a real post that isn't just flaming frogboy or stardock. Something helpful. Like a suggestion.
Problem is that too many people just won't give up and help. It's much easier to complain to someone about a game then to help them fix it by giving realistic insite.
And yes please frogboy don't give up. But i don't think you have. I am a loyal stardock customer and will be for a long time to come. Great company and support. Please continue to make games which always end up good.
Also everyone lets not forget that frogboy is also working on another game. This isn't his only concern here so if his posting goes down that could be part of the problem.
Ja Frogboy, don't lose hope! I lost hope when I was stuck in my bunker, and I got raped very badly.
AFAIK Brad doesn't have any plan to stop posting journals (which he is best suited to do with his knowledge of the big picture), just reduce other interaction (Which Istari and I can do just fine).
Yes but if the game was not as imperfect as it was on release, there wouldnt have been a need for so much support. Thats the point. See Gothic 3 as an example for an imperfect game WITHOUT support, and Demigod as one with support. Call of Juarez: bound in Blood doesnt need to be supported - no bugs and so on.
hmm u can't really say that another publisher might have done a multi beta and then there wouldn't have been such a huge cock up
there is no point speculating on the past it can't be changed
Yeah, but you can learn from the past. The problem is that the real culprit here isnt SD, but rather GPG. And by all accounts that we have, GPG seems happy with the product and didnt see any problems with what happened in the past. That makes people kind of upset so they vent on the incompleteness of the game.
yes and that cant be change because GPG is too stubborn and SD can't do anything about it by the seems of things
Aren't these forums moderated? Why not just moderate any personal attacks, and if the same person gets moderated X number of times they get banned? I guess I just don't see why this is even an issue, I mean there are going to be people doing things like this in any online forum, it's inevitable.
We're not stuck with an "incomplete game" in any stretch of the imagination. Content will be produced and bug fixes will be delivered as promised. Frogboy has simply stopped posting.
Which sucks. I appreciated the interaction. Some people on these forums are just ugh...
Frogboy doesn't earn his paycheck by dealing with us directly. That was not in his job description. His being here was totally voluntary and pretty much because he believed in the possibility of communication with the people who love the game or at least have some constructive feedback. And he should be highly commended for that, especially for how long he did it.
But unfortunately the internet is faceless and people will say anything when they don't have to own up to it face to face. In fact some of the loudest people on most forums wouldn't say a damn thing if they had to sit in front of the person and actually say it TO the person directly.
Its actually a sad day and age we live in now when I really think about it
HAHA U FUNNY
yh but no eta on when the content will be here and i dont believe all the bugs have been fixed after 3 months from release i just got to think wtf were the beta testers doing they were paid to find the bugs but so many got threw
