Honest question, im not looking to start a flame war or anything, this is my second competitive game (my first was World in Conflict) and i really dont know why when we play competitive games we tend to become jackasses.
GalCivs2 Community is great and a lot of people i see in this forum that come from there are great, so if the problem is the competitive games why are does players not changing?, i guess it could have something to do with maturity but i cannot belive that must competitive players are guys with the mind of a 13 year old, so i doubt thats the correct answer.
So can someone please help me understand?
Because people complain about losing, but no really cares, and there's always those that make fun of the losers or are elitist about winning. Then people complain about people not caring, being made fun of, or elitists. Then people complain about crappy communities.
It's a vicious cycle.
@Primal Zed:
Funny: yesA little confusing: yesHelpfull: yesAlthought it was not necessary to atack me on complaining on a bad community cause im not really complaining im asking "Why the trend?".
I can understand People complaining about losing,i understand they dont care enough and that there are elitist and all that you said, thing is you end up seeing elitist complainting about losing, actually those are the worst complaners when they lose, so i guess it comes down to hipocrecy and the inability to judge things from an objective point of view, i guess.
ill admit i am a competitive player, ive been brought up that way through outdoor sports and like to bring this to my video gaming. i dont like losing a game where i dont understand why i lost, although i can take a loss if i know why(someone on my team feeds them 10 kills, or doesnt shield/heal their team mates).
i get very frustrated when i see someone make silly mistakes in a game, that to me would just be common sense.
ive been through the dota learning curve and basically, they flame you at the start, then once you no how to play it occurs alot less, unless they are trolling you on purpose.
imo, competitive games have a crappy community because:
in saying that i do not flame others in-game at all in demigod
ROFL! ryan, your such a noob and you know it.
The community isn't crappy. I played WoW for years and you always have all these people who decry the community, the trolls, etc. etc., but it's nonsense. The community is fine, there are players who sat down on WoW and spent hours or days making spreadsheets, optimizing builds, discussing the game and genreally doing what you would hope people would do on a forum.
This board is fine, honestly. There's some trolls here, there's some complaining and negativity, but I don't get the impression that the average poster hates everyone or the game.
This kind of post really does nothing but darken the mood on the boards. People seriously just need to get some thicker skin. If you don't like where a post is going, stop reading it. If you came to the boards to find something out, make a post and ask about it. I guarantee if there is an answer you'll get it even if you have to skip a few silly replies before you get to it.
Its just bad sportsmanship all around.
I oftimes say good game while raging inside that I just got owned by some 10 year old
Because its the one place where nerds can compete.
As trollish as that sounds, its pretty much true. Its human nature to be an asshole when you're competing.
Not my experience that competitive games have bad communities, I played CSS casually for a long time and never had any issue with the clanners that dominated pub games. There were cheaters and griefers, but they were rare.
The official forums for nearly every game are poor, for example the Steam Community forums for TF2 are full of retards, but the majority of servers are populated by a more reasonable mix of people.
I don't see DG as being much different from this, the only reason you notice it is that a single idiot can ruin a game by leaving in DG, whereas they are inevitably replaced in FPS games.
Demigod isn't suitable for competitive play in its current state because it lacks several features such as arranged team ranked play, voice comms, balanced and variable but equally effective builds etc. I think the people who want to play Demigod at a competitive level have played a major part in this forum becoming quite hostile in recent times, but it isn't because they are immature or nasty, it's because the game lacks features they want and need to be able to play the game in the way they are used to. They have been frustrated by the core gameplay appearing to be catering to competitive play in the DotA vein, yet the surrounding features and lack of polish preventing it from taking place without considerable effort.
Hmmm...
Well, i dont think it's so much the fact that the game is a competive online arena type game so much as it is a problem with kids/ dumb adults with too much pent up rage looking for a clique they can jell with.
I'm sure thier are some intelligent griefers but from my experience most of them are idiots who lack alittle thing in the brain i often describe as thoughts...
elitist are just douchy douchebags who either really need a good lay or just alittle bit o that sweet sweet sunshine. Thier are elitist everywhere though its hardly just a DG problem. However, I do believe that because the online community is smaller than some others thier presence is felt more often than not, unfortunately. I really havent played anyone who was real elitist but i dont play custom games either, and i think thats where they tend to roam... with thier own kind trying to play noobs so they can continue to feel more elite.
Alot of people here are very nice, helpful and all together good guys and gals, they just like to roll thier eyes at most of the crap most of the time and carry on, or play the game .
Honestly, this community isn't a competitive one. I have no idea where you got that.
Yeah this isn't really a competitive game, and certainly doesn't have a competitive community, if anything it is the opposite.
Agreed with these two. Demigod doesn't have a competitive community.
Can you explain please what is competitive community ?
How many times have you three's premades battled it out? I mean, you're all US and seem to play at the same times so you must've had many games together battling it out in a grandiose way really challenging yourselves instead of noob stomping, right?
Edit: not Healer, but the three guys above him.
Why don't you look at my tournament post, does it look like other premades are willing to play eachother? This game is not competitive. I've played games with SoFFacet because we ussualy lack a third. But you just wanted to make a silly post to make us look bad without actually knowing anything about us... right? If this game ever gets out of the phase of "omfg people have friends" and teamplay is actually implemented, the community would probably change to a more competitive one. Right now, that is nonexistant.
That was my point. Just waiting for those three hotshots to answerand saying that nobody beats them. After browsing their games i've understand why.Atleast title your games as P r e M a d e.
Really, not impressed.
Losing because of my own faults is totally acceptable, but having someone else be a burden is unpleasant. The matchmaking could use some improvements.
Bla Bla Bla ....
Very convincing arguement, I see why you don't play with other people now.
This game is not competitive, it is just highly reliant on teamplay and one bad player can ruin it for the team.
The same used to happen in Left 4 Dead, highly reliant on good teamplay, one bad player would ruin it. There is/was far more abuse online in that game than Demigod.
This game will never be a competitive game IMO. There is little point in having a 1v1 league, due to Demigods not being specifically balanced for that. I also believe that Impulse will not have robust clan support available in time.
Coupled with a under developed lobby/chat system, it just cannot at the moment support it.
I like this game, but I don't think I will ever get competitive for it, I don't even think that I will play it that much anymore, unless some significant patches come in. Starcraft 2 is on the horizon, then Supcom 2.
At the moment, I am too engrossed playing Demons Souls on my PS3, which is an awesome game.
Can you explain that also ?
Why should they? You're applying a different standard to them just because they play with their friends and are good? As was pretty obvious from the lack of interest in the tournament thread, there are a very limited number of teams who would actually like to get better at the game by playing in organised competition.
If there is no organised competition, and in lieu of a patch providing ranked team games, the people who are good at the game are going to simply make games the same way everyone else does. If you're so casual about the game why do you care what their stats are, or whether you win or lose against a premade?
Nobody want to know anything about you. Just be decentand title your premade games and don't come here and say that "this community isn't a competitive one".
You really didn't understand my post or you just kidding ?
How their premade team gonna get better when playing against unorganised players ?
