Honest question, im not looking to start a flame war or anything, this is my second competitive game (my first was World in Conflict) and i really dont know why when we play competitive games we tend to become jackasses.
GalCivs2 Community is great and a lot of people i see in this forum that come from there are great, so if the problem is the competitive games why are does players not changing?, i guess it could have something to do with maturity but i cannot belive that must competitive players are guys with the mind of a 13 year old, so i doubt thats the correct answer.
So can someone please help me understand?
I agree with alot of what SoF had to say in his earlier post. Clan support, friends list, and team support should have been implemented if they were going to use any sort of auto-match making in the first place.
If it was planned to be like all the old school strategy games where everything was done through lobbies then i guess it makes sense. I would rather see those options available to the game over the new promised demigods personally.
I can see why top premade groups wouldnt want to play on the others host. It wouldnt be the first time someone got pissed off and raged because they were losing. Unfortunately, stats are important to some people, its a way of looking at your record and saying, look what i have accomplished. Its no different than training. You keep track of your reps and weight and you use that as a way to validate what you have done to achieve that.
Real shame people exploit though, but i guess some people will do anything to feel superior to others.
I'm currently ranked 89, yet easily over 90% of my games have been random skirmish/pantheon games. Since I obviously don't have a reliable team mate (since random is random after all), how do you explain my record then?
Simple: you're crazy good (and aren't playing against the other top 200 players as the majority of them are custom premades).

Of the premades who post on the forums, I'd guess nearly all are more keen for a good game than a nub stomp. Certainly I know facet, bear and itchy are all looking for competition because they've made numerous posts trying to organise such games, though with little success it seems.
I can host a pre vs random game because the Australian community is small enough that I know which players are good enough to compete with a premade (Stacked and Ryan will generally put up a decent fight), though the US/EU player pool is probably too large to do this effectively.
I have played against premades from AU before, and while a few have been absolute crackers, there have also been teams on voip that have performed worse than skilled randoms. So even getting a pre vs pre game going isn't a guaruntee of a decent matchup unfortunately.
I should probably point out that you seemed to be implying that the people posting here are intentionally nubstomping over and over. Facet's somewhat terse response to that is understandable, and certainly I was irked when I read the posts from both you and Healer insinuating it's somehow our fault. You are right to be agitated at the current situation, it sucks and we hear you. But it's not the fault of the people who are playing with their friends, and it's certainly not the fault of the ones that are participating actively in the forums trying to get tournaments going (Wickedbear).
It's unfortunate that the premade community isn't being supported as well as it could (it's the reason my friends and I haven't really done anything other than compstomps when we have played together) with team automatch and the like.
It's also unfortunate that getting a good premade game can take 30+ minutes, but them's the breaks. To compare again to WoW (since for some reason that is considered a metric of comparison to this game when they aren't all that similar) once the "premade patch" was instituted most premades had to wait upwards of one hour to get matches against other premades. It even got to the point where premades would form the smallest group possible that didn't put them into the "premade queue" so they could get matches in a decent amount of time.
The bottom line is that good matches are always going to take longer to get between players in the top percentile of a playerbase. To expect some magical system that creates perfect matches for the top 200 players (especially in a community this small) is going a bit too far. I haven't ever seen a game that can a produce a match between top ranked players in under 5 minutes (even Halo 2, which had a huge community of high ranked players at one point, still often had 15+ minute wait times when your rank got above 40).
The top players are going to have to take it upon themselves if they want some sort of good matchups between each other. And in a community this small (and considering many of those top players have tried to do just that) I'm not sure that can happen.
The difference is we just wanted a way to match teams period. I could care less about matching us evenly or based on rating. that's just me though.
Of course they don't play pre-made in Pantheon, you can't do that to begin with (good thing too, as pre-made vs pug in pantheon would be BS). [e digicons](\(\[/e]

I would suggest options a.) and c.) are most important to DG, though I'm willing to accept the hardcore crowd probably values b.) quite highly.
Note that this is only for 1v1, from what I gather balancing for team games is insanely hard, if not impossible.
I'd be in favor of the SupCom system that had each pairing with its own ranking, though with some extra abilities to allow for variations from 2v2 up to 4v4 without creating a new team entry. Maybe link it with clan creation or something similar.
But I agree with WickedBear for the short term, just get something running that can match a team of 3 against another team of 3.
All I wanted to imply was that when I log on, most of the time I see several premades with lobbies open and since I believe in the good of human beings I would think that they could battle it out amongst themselves rather than endlessly noob stomp.
