So here it is Frogboy.
I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't intend for it to be hateful, despite how some of what I wrote sounds. I don't want you to quit posting here anymore then the next guy. And its the truth. All anyone else does here is b*tch and complain... even me. So I want to at least put one thing out here. Frogboy you deserve respect. You are the spokesperson on a hate forum for things gone wrong and you've stuck with it day in and day out. I know that you carry a huge burden. I know how much it could hurt to read some of this crap about your baby(stardock) and how much people hate ideas that you probably had a hand in implementing. I'm guilty sir, of all the things you hate this forum for, and I apologise. My only hope is that some of the people on this forum can man up to. I would hate to see you go. I apologise on behalf of everyone... because despite how much their sitting here complaining about the game... they are all still playing it, including myself. Apparently you guys did something right, right?
This is in response to my own misjudgement and poor choice of words used in this topic

There's nothing for you to apologize for. All you did is wake me up to the reality of the Demigod community - it's toxic.
No matter what we do for the game post release, it'll never be enough. I think that's clear. No matter what we do or what we get GPG to do the best we'll ever get from the Demigod community is "well it should have had <insert feature> to begin with" with the typical response being "Well that's nice but what about <insert thing they want next here>?"
It's a toxic community here. And that's just the forums. Then, you get into the game and you get people who grief other users in games, swear at them, create pre-mades without identifying what they are.
And in my head, I can think of endless efforts to counter toxic behavior by the community with new features in the game but for what?
The best thing I think is to let Demigod evolve in whatever way it's going to evolve without my trying to interfere with it. My time is much better spent on Elemental where if someone has a request that I agree with I can get it into the game directly (literally either code it myself or assign one of my developers).
On Demigod, I'll always be merely the messenger of news (good and bad) and frankly, the Demigod community is too toxic for me to want to spend my free time being apart of. Maybe that's because of the early networking issues the game had or because of the genre of the game or the demographic of the players. I don't know. I just know I don't want to be apart of it anymore.
That doesn't mean I won't ever be on anymore. But as long as the forums are brimming with bile (justified or unjustufied) I won't be apart of it.
But there is nothing you said in your comments that was inappropriate or wrong. It just made me realize that my presence doesn't really make a different in the bigger scheme of things in the community.
You'll likely find that any online gaming community tends to be the same. Granted, my first hand experience is limited (to WoW), but it's the nature of the internets.
I appreciate the work Frogboy and Stardock has done on this game. As a software developer just starting his career (first job out of college, started late May), I will definitely look into employment at Stardock in the future. (Though so far I think my current job is great.)
I code for fun as its just problem solving like a jigsaw or something. Never really thought about going pro...what software/languages are the industry standard? (Its hard to look these things up nowadays, the web is saturated with so much uselessness )
And for the boyish frog...
Hang in There!
Please Don't Leave Frogboy!Your like a god!Only it hurts more when you judge us...
so far I'm developing a very very very robust MS InfoPath form (mostly using XSLT instead of using the designer - we've long since moved beyond what InfoPath Designer actually supports). Also uses javascript. Honestly, I don't know what other companies might use. My schooling mostly covered logic, theory, and algorithms, not actual programming languages (the language in any given class varied by the teacher's preference).
So Sad...
Your right Brad. The community is full of immature kids (my god, I hope their kids) with little minds and big egos who take on-line gaming WAY, WAY too seriously (get a real life - gaming is actually supposed to be fun, not a cutthroat competition). Believe me, nobody cares how unbeatable their erebus build is or their self-proclaimed PRO moniker. Anywhere else we'd call these idiots playground bullies. I personally enjoy the game and simply try to avoid or ignore these fools. There are a lot of nice players out there so I recommend we leave the a-holes to themselves and just enjoy the bit of escapism playing DG is.
You shouldn't let a few trolls trash your attitude.
Also. Demigod 2 by Stardock.
I have to agree about the Demigod community, after reading post after post of complaints i just left. I come back about once a week to check if there is a new dev journal but otherwise i don't read any other post or try to interact with the Demigod community anymore. The only reason i'm even posting this is because i saw "A Formal Apology to Frogboy" and just checked it out quickly. Well i'll be going now and probably wont be posting anything until the community cools down (hopefully).
I support this notion.
That would be great...but I just can't wait for Elemental! Stardock developed! And Frogboy has stated numerous times that they learned the lessons of Demigod's faults and won't let it happen again (even though SD was responsilbe for very little of the problems to begin with).
Kudos to you SD, keep up the best of work you can do....and hope to god the trolls/haters just leave and play lawl (sp? )
Can't say I didn't see this coming. This is exactly how EA has done things in the past for RTS's..
An idea so good, you know it will never come true I think we've all frustrated Brad enough for him to quit on Multiplayer games.
I don't have a lot of experience with competative DOTA type games and their online communities...but I will say this experience has forever turned me off from them. Demigod had such a cool premise and I really liked the game...but once I started going online (after beating the SP portion a few times) it was literally sickening. I haven't even played in over a month because every single match I joined was filled with foaming at the mouth belligerent retards. Basically just checking the forums every once and a while and it seems it's just continued to go down the tubes. I read this thread and a few others (including the one alluded to in this thread) and it's so ****ing sad to see how many asswipes just sit here and throw out their venom.
Frogboy, thanks for at least trying to foster a positive community here...it must have taken some serious self control not blowing up on these immature punks everyday. Most of these children have no idea what it's like to pour out your heart and soul creating something...and then to watch it get torn to shreds on a daily basis must have been painful.
And yeah, the game had/has it's share of problems...ok...even more than your average game. But Stardock and GPG have been working their asses off getting it together. And when patch after patch comes...does the community even appreciate one single bit? Heck no...just more ammo to blast the game with.
Anyways, I think this is the last game like this I ever buy...the people who flock to these games are assholes.
ps.
Looking forward to Elemental...looks awesome so far Stardock! And GPG...I hope you guys recover from this fiasco...I have always enjoyed your games, especially the Dungeon Siege series.
[trolling removed]
I will never buy another GPG game again. Stardock... I am aware that much of this is not your fault since you are paired with a completely fail company. Nonetheless, I am mad as hell that I wasted my money on this. I went back to playing DotA after about a month.
Apparently the gist of what Frogboy said above is lost here. Obviously, you can't help but agree with him. I mean, this is a thread some guy opened to apologize and Frogboy's getting flamed here...
Quite frankly Muus, if it pisses you off that bad, don't play it. We won't miss you, I promise.
Normally, I'd post a rational, well planned argument pointing out the faults of your post. However, I'd don't feel you even deserve the benefit of that. Get out of this community. Seriously. Just leave.
I left a long time ago. I *tried* to switch from DotA to Demigod but the extreme amount of issues that this game has sent me right back.
I still come back and play Demigod occasionally to check and see if GPG/SD got their sh*t together yet and inevitably, the game is in the exact same state that I left it in - a steaming pile of crap.
I can't believe that people are actually apologizing to Stardock for calling them out on how fail this game is. How about Stardock apologizes to *us* for taking our money and promising things that we never got? The amount of fail in this game borders on fraud.
I feel like I bought a $40 sack and got a bag of oregano - you can smoke it, but it isn't any fun.
I just want to agree that the community is bad. People in game are bad most of the time.
Right. Strong points there. You're a champ. Move along now.
(sry blitz... not meant for you)
Someone call this kid's parents, he's throwing a temper tantrum all over the forum.
Then don't come back. Seriously. No kidding, no jokes. Go.
Anyway I think we are all headed in the wrong direction as a community we need to turn around and see where it all went wrong.
