After all the communication we've got the past few days from Frogboy and kryo I felt like a positive, uplifting post was appropriate in the midst of all the Demigod is dead and GPG sucks threads. I just wanted to thank Stardock for continuing the amazing support Sins received into Demigod. Everyone talks about how great certain other games are, but Stardock games are games to stick with.
I can't imagine I'm not the only other person whose been more than happy with Stardock's communication.
Results > Words.
Maybe so, but some people seem to think the sky is falling when they don't get a post once a week.
I myself am more then happy with Stardock's service. People seem to forget that on the majority of developers/publishers forums you rarely see updates by the developers and the having them join in on discussions is pretty much unheard of.
Communication is certainly better than nothing but I'd be much happier with something of substance (which is to say, I agree with Re#1).
That said, I'm looking at GPG for that substance. The ball's more or less in their court now as far as I can tell.
I kind of like how Zero Punctuation puts it at the end of his videos.
"Fans are clingy; complaining; dipshits who will never ever be greatful for an concession you make. The moment you cut out thier shrill tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it..."
Thats how alot of our community seem to be
Also i am reminded of brats who ask "are we there yet?" 5 minutes go by, "are we there yet?" ect ect ect.
I dont know how anyone could think stardock is giving them the shaft or ignoring them or just plain doesnt give a flying... why dont you go over to the EA boards or the Microsoft boards and see how much they give a flying f what you think. At least frogboy gives a damn about more than just your pocket book, he already got your money, most likely, if you are posting here and he still wades through the piles of shit that go far beyond constructive criticism and for the most part maintains a respectable cander.
Look, I enjoy a strategy game now and again but its not really my niche, i prefer shooters and rpgs so i am no massive fanboy of demigod. I enjoy it, its fun, la dee da. However, i am a fan of stardock thiers a company that cares about what you say and like anyone who cares it sure isnt pleasent constantly being crucified by the people you're trying to make happy. I was alot more active in the forums awhile back but now its just so damn depressing most of the time.
Stardock's doing all they can do afaict. GPG is the one dropping the ball.
I agree and I for one still have full confidence in Stardock. GPG may need to step things up a bit but I guess their focus is on the DG demo and SC2.
Also, remember that it is summer and lot's of business are working on halfspeed when often a large part of their staff is away. Guess this is why not many games are released during the early summer.
You mean like:

Demigod - May 14th update -------------------------------- Evening update: updates to networking message passing.
Touchè, Frogboy.
Im with ya there. People just get all pissy when its money involved...because they payed the HUGE total of $40, they derserve everyday content additions and updates. Hell I've payed more than $40 for a shitty dinner with even worse customer service than GPG gives out, and yet I'm ok with it. Guess its all based on people's attitudes and their personalities.
If I understand this correctly, gpg was the developer and stardock was the publisher, but stardock also handled most or all of the multiplayer networking stuff for this game. Getting a multiplayer game going when I first bought this game was a major headache, but now it's pretty simple. Kudos to stardock for admitting they had a problem and fixing it.
It does seem like a lot of the features we (the whole community) are asking for are things that GPG would have to get involved with and thats where we keep having problems. As Frogboy said, GPG met their vision for the game at release. Well then I guess I disagree with their vision in that it didn't include some better pre-arranged team competition features. I still enjoy the game as is, but I sure do hope to see some more clan support or something.
I think that Stardock gets more flaming directed at them since they maintain this forum rather than GPG. The fact that we get way more communication out of Frogboy than anyone from GPG seems to draw flaming towards stardock too sometimes. It feels like stardock is more responsible for demigod now than GPG is, although that can't really be true. The fact that stardock's people talk about new features more than gpg does makes it seem like its stardock's JOB to make them. Maybe if you stardock guys would shut your mouth we'd start flaming gpg instead .
*edit*
As far as gpg goes, I'm sure I'll buy supcom 2, but if it's not polished off at release, I'll lose a good bit of faith in GPG. Supcom 1 woulda been a heck of a lot more enjoyable if the ranked team games feature worked.
exactly... notice how stuff done by SD greatly out weighs that of GPG... hence:
I can pull out the long lists of bugs too. You still published an unfinished game. Should you get credit for doing your best to fix it..... Maybe. I'll say that much. All of this goes along the same lines of "yes, we made a mistake, but were doing our best!"
Fortunately, I think most people who are soft will lean on your side of this. But you know as well as I do the normal person doesn't really care about how much effort your company has given, nor will ever read about your triumphs you've overcome.
My personal opinion is that you really would have done things differently with Demigod, but you're left holding the short end of the stick because of GPG. I feel for you, but that doesn't mean i'm looking forward to the next game you publish either. I'd love to be wrong, but i'm the type of person that needs to see somthing before I can hop on a bandwagon.
PS: If I didn't give a rats *** about your game or company, I wouldn't be here. However, I'm not going to coat the truth with candy and flowers. If you can win me over in the long run, that would speak volumes, and I would be a personal advocate. I do think theres a shread of hope left for this game, but it has been a VERY bumpy ride for my crew.
Well..part of the silent majority here... I buy Stardock games since GalCiv I, always liked them, and especially the support and communication. Simply Outstanding. Thanks!
That said, I realise the difference when Stardock acts as a publisher. I guess i will not buy Stardock published games so blindfolded as I do Stardock developed products (well..with Sins it worked out). I was not to happy with Supreme Commander support, and now Demigod - GPG is loosing some trust. I dont know if Demigod will stay alive in the long term, but I surely hope so.
>"Hell I've payed more than $40 for a shitty dinner with even worse customer service than GPG gives out"
Thats true, and that said, I already had a lot of fun with the game, and still have...
I'm not sure that's fair or even true. Karma has a tendency to accumulate.
Wicked, I reserve the right to take away posting rights of people who annoy me. Consider yourself warned.
Out of the intelligent and true statements Wickedbear has mentioned, this is all you have to say? Very professional. I check back to see if stuff has been worked out, and all I see is this. I'm done.
So he makes a point to you Frogboy and you counter with a witty counter. One might say a smart remark almost. So Wicked counters with a completely well spoken and none offensive post. And you threaten to take away his posting privelages? What truth hurt or something? Honostly Wicked forgot something. Like you guys are testing all the patches that come out right? Like the last patch that was supposed to give us random Demigod choice and was broken. C'mon Frogboy. We're all on your side but... sometimes it just gets a little hard when you get all defensive over miniscule comments and everything that gets released is broken. Plus he was giving credit to you, and blaming it where you yourself had even hinted before that it should be aimed at: GPG.
So ya... go ahead and take my posting privelages too I guess if that helps you sleep better at night.
Apparently I'm not the only one...
You know, you're right.
I shouldn't take away people's posting just because they annoy me. That is being thinned skinned. A better solution is to just quit reading the postings here as it just gets my blood pressure going up.
Going forward, if you have a tech support question, contact support@stardock.com. If you have a game play change you want, go to the GPG forums.
Personally, I'm done with the Demigod community. That's just me personally. Kryo and Istari people will still be here but I'd rather spend my free time elsewhere. I'll check in from time to time but I don't find the atmosphere here to be one I want to be part of.
Good luck.
I was just trying to figure out why it annoyed you. But ok man. I have respect for you frogboy, your out here taking all the personal heat for everything thats been going down. I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone. Its just that Wicked had a legitemate post. When will the promises become fact. I'm sorry you feel that way Frogboy. Hate to see you stop posting on here. People mistake everything that I say on here too. And I have only posted like 6 times...
... ya know I was gonna post some big almost apology but forget it. You know how gamers are. You used to play pro right? Hasty and hateful comments should be part of your common knowledge at this point. You know how forums are. Its not this forum but all forums. 90% of anyone who gets on the forums does it to complain. Just like 90% of people who do surveys do it cuz they were pissed.
I'm truly sorry you feel that way Frogboy. Hate to see you go.
So, let me summise here for a moment. Your basic opinion is that that GPG made a mistake, but you're happy to blame Stardock for it? Oh, wait, hold on - you do actually care, you're just one of the harder-to-impress guys that Stardock need to impress because... ? From what I've read, you still feel the company that didn't make the game should bow down and kiss your feet because by impressing you they're somehow doing themselves a service. Frankly, why would anyone want to keep someone with this attitude around is the question I feel you should be asking. You compliment on one line, add a full stop, and then insult the same person.
Sometimes, it's almost as if the only way we're going to have an enjoyable game with a great community is for both Stardock and GPG to halt all work on Demigod so that the people who are constantly clogging up the board with crap actually leave instead of making hundreds of posts about how crap everything is, and the people who actually enjoy the game for what it is are left with a nice community of people who are here to have fun.
I've been happy with the updates so far.We seem to forget that a lot of that time was also lost to pirates due to no DRM on there product.
I always appreciated the updates and behind the scenes looks Frogboy would post! Not sure I blame him for being pissed, sure I would be too if I were him.
Wow. This is lame.
Don't you depend on the health of the online community in your games in order to sell copies? And you have given up due to some emotionally-driven personal lapse in rational thinking (ragequit, if you will)?
Look, when I bought this game, it was unplayable. Today, it is much improved - but it is still pretty bad. Many more lobbies/games end maddeningly due to lag, game crashes, lobby bugs, etc. than games that succeed. That of course doesn't even include the games that are lopsided skill-wise or where one team has members that leave (although you get these in any game). This is a loss of my time, which is much more important to me than the 40 bucks or whatever I spent on it. I don't participate actively in any community features. I don't have Demigod friends. I just fire up Demigod and click on the Multiplayer and hope that I can get a couple decent rounds in during the few hours per week that I have available for gaming.
I would suggest to you that the reason the community is so "toxic" is that the vast majority of the people like me have left, and those that remain are the types of people who have plenty of time to spend praying for a match - immature kids, etc. When this game works, it ranks very high on the fun factor, but it very difficult to make a case that the fun actually outweighs the number of bugs and problems that still exist.
So, I don't think all of the finger pointing is really necessary. I think a tremendous effort has been made at customer service and to cleanup this game. Had it been EA, they would have let it fail. However, I think you have an unreasonable idea of the current state of the game. I also think you have unreasonable expectation of forgiveness from your users.
If you have made a decision as CEO of Stardock that the outlook of this game's future is grim and that you will ramp down your support and focus on other efforts, you should have done so quietly, or stated it as such. As you've done here, it will be difficult to take trust in something that you say in the future - that you will actually see your promises through to fruition.
I wanna play the big list game! Here's one patch from Dawn of War 2. And on topic: Stardock FTW, GPG FTL
'There Is Only War' significantly rebalances Relic's PC RTS, as well as adding eight new maps and a multiplayer map editor.
