I am just curious: Impulse shows that RightClick was last updated in August of 2008. It is still not fully compatible with 64-bit operating systems, and has limitations in skinning since it utilizes bitmaps instead of allowing png's.
Based upon the forum post about ObjectDesktop 2010 found in the outside link above, Stardock has not given up on RC; or at least RC will be in the OD bundle.
But when will some updates come around? When can 64 bit users be uninhibited in their use, and skinners be able to use png's?
Just curious...
I've got a small update for RC planned to improve how it applies WB skins. I'm hoping to get the bug where you have to click twice in Vista64 . . but it's being a bugger.
Yeah, I'd hate to see this program die off. I wonder what the percentage of ObjectDesktop users that actually use RC is? And please oh please can we get a new version that uses pngs?
The ability to use png's would GREATLY help the skinner in creating RC skins! Oh please, oh please...!
I can't fathom why anyone would NOT use right click. It is...without a doubt....one of the most productive programs available. It's so important to me, I would forgo x64 if it could not be made compatible.
what he said.
I would love to echo you on that, Lantec, but with the type of work I do, I have come to need 64-bit and all the extra RAM that goes along with it.
I used it,I loved it,I spent a lot of time setting it up exactly how I wanted it. It crashed twice, taking my configuration settings with it each time. If there was a way to save these settings,as OD does,I would go back to using it.As it is,it's just too much work to redo it all after a crash. For now I'll stick with OD and DX.
I hope this is addressed in a future update. (Please!)
Kinda like why I used Litestep so much. Lord knows what it'll [litestep] do to Win 7 /64 .....not sure I want to find out...
I've got my who RightClick folder synced (via Synctoy2) to a thumb drive......anytime I make changes or add a skin I made I sync it.....if I loose my configuration or even my HD I just copy it back into the folder......
BUT......it would be nice to have a "Save" feature and png support.
Jafo, now is the time to try it out before on the RC instead of waiting for the release........they'll probably put some kind of DRM that only lets you install it once on the release version.
One of the best progs ever.
Used to be a bit buggy on XP but never a problem on Vista ( 32bit ), but I agree, it needs updating.
It could use some bling.
PNGs with alpha channel and some open/close effects. Other than that, it just needs to work.
RC could be a winner on Vista. Anything to replace that frelling start menu...
I must have missed a memo or something...when did gef become a mod?
Awhile back but I have actually had to stop due to other commitments.
I can. I make DX themes. Ok, we all know that. But I put all my shortcuts into my themes, then make them widgets (because even tho I have it set to do so, DX will not run at startup on vista) so they can start with windows. Properly setup, my DX themes/widgets contain everything I need to use. Everything. I need no start menu, no Object Dock, no Right Click.
That said, I do think RC is an awesome app, and if DX ever dies, God forbid, I might be an avid RC user. Now RC, for me, is good with just the normal stuff enabled in it, just to skin my context menu.
Would DX start if you added a shortcut to your Startup folder.
It does for me and so does Right-click.
I'll try that. I think a DX theme, running as a theme, uses less RAM than the same theme running as a widget.
I would also love to see .png support for RightClick. Easily my favorite program from stardock.
RC works fine for me, DX in builder mode I can't seem to get working, but I haven't tried client mode.
I have been DXing for years now and have never loaded Client mode since I found out about builder mode...lol.
Imagine all the energy that got into fences (pretty useless to me when having rightclick and/or object dock +) would have gone into RC. Oh well, just dreaming...
Good point. A program exists currently that works, but needs work. Instead of working on it, a new program is brought to life and continues to have improvements...
Due to the current lack of full 64-bit compatibility for RC, I don't use RC on my 64-bit machine, which is my main work computer that I use all the time. This means that I have come to rarely use RC.
This doesn't mean that I don't still love the program, but that, since my main machine can't run it to its fullest, I don't use it very much.
Not only that, but the skinning limitations can be a bit taxing...
Mirsguy sends a subliminal message to the developers...P N G . . .
How about an update from the actual developers? Would be interesting to hear their input.
